Abstract: | Recent experiments which purport to show that molecular iodine added to seawater is rapidly converted entirely to another oxidized form of iodine, hypoiodite, are shown to be defective. The earlier suggestion that the disappearance is due to chemical reduction of molecular iodine by organic matter remains the most plausible reason. |
