| Abstract: | The present review gives an account of the three principal theories on the origin of microseisms, namely, the surf theory, the low-pressure-center theory and the stationary-wave theory. Particular attention is paid to the "tripartite" method of tracking a storm center. Data from seismographic stations at Nanking and Zi-Ka-Wei are presented to illustrate the relationships between microseisms and storms and to show the possibiiity of forecasting the latter by use of the former. |
