| Abstract: | The ultraviolet spectra of samples of an oil pollutant and crude oil at various concentrations were examined. Strong absorption maxima appear at approximately 228 nm and 256 nm. These permit a quantitative analysis in polluted sediment samples many months after the spill. Results obtained from three visits to an oil polluted beach on the South coast of South Africa are reported. |
