For the crystalline fundament of Western Moravia, part of the Bohemian Massif, a blocky fabric is typical. Fault and deformation zones separating individual blocks can be classified and characterized also on the basis of their quartz fabric. Namely, quartz fabric of metamorphic rocks of the Core of the Bohemian Massif is in general statistically isotropic, quartz having been preferentially oriented only in late Hercynian deformation zones. Investigations have shown that among existing fault zones only those were in action at the end of the Hercynian orogeny which enabled a tectonic transport toward NE, approximately in the horizontal plane. The transport was caused by a lateral compressive stress comming from SW. The movements took place mostly in acid crystalline schists. Massifs of acid and basic igneous rocks as well as different metabasite bodies behaved as obstacles hindering tectonic transport.
