Abstract:The paper discusses the role of all parties involved in the debate about environmental standards, their relationships in an ideal situation, the weaknesses today and how these weaknesses could be corrected. The question of who should set the environmental standards is an important element on the way to this ideal situation. It is considered necessary that all parties, industry, consumers, government regulations and the green lobby, should contribute to the development of better environmental standards.
