The sphere of influence of industrial location factors: A case study of the use of Heathrow Airport
Authors:Anthony G Hoare
Abstract:This paper introduces and discusses the concept of the ‘sphere of influence’ of industrial location factors, suggesting some ways in which it relates to regional development policies. The case study of the sphere of influence of London (Heathrow) Airport is then presented, based on the use made of the Airport for commercial purposes. In practice a number of different ‘use types’ can be distinguished, for which the related ‘spheres of influence’ also vary spatially and in intensity of industrial involvement. Finally, some wider Implications are drawn from the Heathrow example.
