Abstract: | When a load is applied to the surface of the Earth, there is an immediate elastic deformation followed by a time-dependent isostatic subsidence. The two processes on the Blåsjø artifical lake, Southern Norway are modelled. The isostatic subsidence turns out to be negligible. A comparison of the modelled elastic deformation and the relative land levelling data gives valuable information about the elastic properties of the Earth's upper layers. The elastic parameters inferred from this study are lower than those from seismic investigations, and more in accordance with laboratory experiments. |
