A numerical experiment of the PBL with geostrophic momentum approximation

Abstract:In this paper, a numerical experiment of the motion in the PBL (planetary boundary layer) is performed with geostrophic momentum approximation, in which a nonlinear eddy transfer coefficient is used, Some results are obtained for the boundary layer winds in cyclone-anticyclone and trough-ridge systems. This treatment improves W-B's work. The effects of geostrophic wind tendency and the advection of the geostrophic wind on the winds in the PBL are also discussed.
