Abstract:In the use of geothermal energy, the reinjection of heat-depleted brines is the most important issue. The reinjection of reservoir fluid can support reservoir pressures and also allow more efficient thermal energy recovery, but at the same time many problems occur during reinjection of heat-depleted brines, among which is the precipitation of the products of reactions between reinjected fluid and the reservoir’s fluid and solid constituents. We discuss the dynamics of the reinjection of heat-depleted brines into the original reservoir using a thermohaline theoretical model using FEFLOW software, representing the effect of the difference in temperature and concentration between heat-depleted brine and reservoir fluid, regardless of the chemical reactions and assuming clean brine.
