| Abstract: | Industry concentrated in cities is a major source of geochemical pollution. It is suggested that this technogenic impact on the environment can be measured by techniques developed in geochemistry. The specific nature of the pollutants can be identified and their levels of concentration (mostly in the soil) can be measured against normal background values. This allows areas of pollution to be classified and mapped in terms of the composition and concentration of pollutants from industrial emissions.
