| Abstract: | Experimental investigations revealed that large cylindrical vortices are formed near the bottom in a head wave traveling over dry ground (“water wall” during a dam break). The vortices rise to the water surface and are thrown into the air perpendicularly to the wave slope. The vortices entrain and transport bottom ground. |
