| Abstract: | In Jiulong River,a large quantity of silt discharges along with runoff to the river mouth during flood periods. The coarse constituent accumulates in the estuary and silts up,and the fine moves with tide in the estuary ,increasing the silt load and discharge. The silt load and discharge ,changes similarly with the resideual current ,are characterized by outflowing with higher load in the upper layer but inflowing with lower load in the lower layer. Both net discharge and residual current move outward and thus the silt discharges. The silt moves to and fro in the estuary, part of which deposits and speeds up the siltation in the area; the rest,under the by temporal and spatial tidal influences between the estuary and the water from the south of the west Harbour,goes with the flowing tide into the south the west Harbour,and threatens the navigation channel of the west Harboar as this part of silt settles down in lower dynamics. |
