| Abstract: | One new species of Platybothrium from marine fishes in Xiamen, Fujian, China is reported. The type specimens are deposited in Parasitology Research Laboratory, Xiamen University. All measurements are given in millimetre unless otherwise stated.Platybothrium xiamenensis sp.nov. (PlateⅠ)

Length 82～126. Strobila slender, composed of 70～116 proglottids. Bothridia elliptical, 0.289～0.371 (0.314±0.033) long by 0.158～0.177 (0.170±0.067) wide, each bearing at its posterior end a cup-like loculus and with one pair of hooks. All hooks forked, one hook of each pair three-pronged, the other two-pronged. Each proglottis is marked off by leaf-like projections in dorsal and ventral pairs of the posterior border. Mature proglottids longer than wide, 1.705～2.590 (2.066±0.280) long by 1.545～2.050 (1.864±0.214) wide. Genital pores in posterior 35.1～40.9% of proglottids, irregularly alternating. Testes oval, numerous, closely massed in medulla between ovarial isthmus and anterior end of proglittis. Cirrus pouch 0.509～0.637 (0.576±0.048) long by 0.284～0.332 (0.312±0.016) wide, containing spined eversible cirrus. Ovary consisting of two coarsely lobed wings. Vagina anterior to cirrus pouch, vaginal sphincter distinct. Vitellaria finely follicular, extending throughout length of proglottis just outside of excretory stems. Uterus median, developing saccular outgrowths on each side. |
