| Abstract: | At the moment of deposition an ideal sediment has certain topological properties. The diagenetic process is driven by the reduction of surface area and this process is considered in relation to the topological properties. The connectivity and genus increase as cementation occurs and in some systems may decrease again. Relations between genus, density, depth of burial and time are considered for a sand-sandstone system. |
