Abstract: | Mass transfer between sulfide and silicate liquids is oftendiscussed by reference to a mass ratio between hypotheticalliquid reservoirs at equilibrium, defined as R. In an open systemnot at equilibrium the mass of silicate melt from which a growingsulfide droplet appears to have scavenged chalcophile elementswill depend on diffusivities Di and DFeS of the element andof the FeS component in the silicate melt, respectively, onthe degree of supersaturation of the melt with FeS CFeSo, onthe radius a of the droplet and on the velocity v with whichthe droplet is advected through the melt, so that |
