| Abstract: | The marvellous natural underground lake lies at a mountain, 506.10m high above sea level, at Chenxi County, Hunan Provincc. It is 900m long, tens to 180m wide and 37-40m deep. Lake water is transparent, inhabited by carp (1-30cm long). There is a natural bridge in the northern segment of the lake, dividing the lake surface into two parts. There are caves above the underground lake and bluc stalactitcs hang from their ceiling. A stream of water with 3° of slope and 50m of drop height runs at the southeastern end of the lake and fantastic stalactites hang besides it.In the northwestern part of the underground lake there lies a great solution cave. It extends very far in the NW and the SE directions.The underground lake and karst caves are not only a tourist site but also a summer resort. The local government hopes to get more investments from businessmen at home and abroad to build the underground lake into a beautiful sight-seeing place. |
