Abstract:The basic principles of mineral applications to environmental engineering are adsorption reactions on mineral surfaces.Thus the large surface area and high surface activity are main parameters for this usage. There are several ways to elevate surface areas and activities of minerals:by using phyllosilicate minerals,with superfine powdered or chemical prepared minerals, and doing surface treatments. However, the pH zpc and adsorption reaction constants of minerals are related to their dielectric constants and this should be first considered. The four kinds of surface functional groups and related fours types of adsorptions are summarized in this article.
