UNDERSTANDING AND PRACTICE OF BASIN STRUCTURE ANALYSIS |

| Abstract: | This paper chiefly discusses the relationships between basin types and geodynamics, basin subsidence and orogenic uplift, structure deformation and geodynamic setting of basin formation, tectonic activity and hydrocarbon occurrence in basins. Based on the theory researches and exploration practices in the petroliferous basins of China and recent advances in basin structure analysis, it is emphasized that the analysis of basin formation process is more important than the basin type analysis, the variations of basin subsidence are consistent with compressive and extensional orogenic uplift, structural deformation in the basin is a multiperiod of time and compound character, and different types of oil and gas systems in these basins are controlled by the tectonic activity and geodynamic settings. |
