Abstract:Brixworth church in Northamptonshire has been aptly described as a museum of rock–types. An archaeological assignment involving the identification of every stone in one of the oldest of our English churches has led to some surprising discoveries – about how the church was built, and the lengthy journeys undertaken by the Saxons in their search for stone.
