| Abstract: | The essential characteristics of major strike-slip fault belts in Tarim Basin are discussed in this paper. Strike-slip-thrust faults formed by transpression are widespread in the basin,they play an important role in controlling hydrocarbon accumulation. The author believes that the formation and evolution of major depressions and uplifts in the basin are controlled to a great extent by strike-slip fault belts. These faults also control the type and distribution of oil and gas traps and have a significant influence on the evaluation and prediction of hydrocarbon potential in the basin. |
