Abstract: | Results of J. Coggin Brown's and F. R. Cowper Reed's researchesare briefly stated and the section west of the Shihtien basin is describedin detail. The name Shihtien beds of Brown is here restricted to thelower part of the Ordovician formations, mainly consisting of shales,140 m. thick. They contain a rich fauna of Brachiopoda, Mollusca,Trilobita and some Graptolites, and can be correlated with the LowerLlanvirnian of England.
