Abstract:Two new species of Paradiagoniella collected from the Chengjiang biota, Paradiagoniella oliviformis sp. nov. and P.conica sp. nov. , are reported here. Similar to P. magna (type species) and P.xiaolantianensis they are thin walled sponge with dense mesh of stauractines and a minor amount of oxeas (straight or curveddiactines) to form the main skeleton; Rare hexactine or pentactine may also be present; Stauractines ranked in size. But they can be distinguished from the type species by the rank less stauractines. The two new species differ in many features, such as the overall form of body and the composition of spicules. These new materials suppose that protospongiid sponges have a high diversity in the early Cambrianperiod and provide new information for understanding the evolutionary significance of protospongiids and the early evolution of hexactinellids and siliceans
