Abstract:Through the analysis of petrology, chronology and geotectonics of Precambrian crystalline basement metamorphic rocks in Korean Peninsula, it is considered that Archean and Paleoproterozoic are the formation stages of palaeocontinent (Ar-Pt1 ) , which can be divided into three stages: formation stage of palaeocontinental core (Ar1-Ar3 ) , formation stage of Rangrim microcontinent (Ar4 ) and formation stage of palaeocontinent ( Pt1 ). The ancent crustal rocks of Korean Peninsula were located in Nampo-Zungsan and Songwon regions, the oldest known rock distributes Zungsan region with the age 314 ~316 Ga ( 3 503 ±123 Ma) , corresponding to Palaeoarchean (Ar2 ) , while the slightly younger rock (219~311 Ga) distributes Songwon region, corresponding to Middle Ar2 chean (Ar3 ). Palaeocontinental core was formed in Nampo-Zungsan and Songwon regions of northern Korean Peninsula. The Archean rocks of Korean Peninsula, including Rangrim and Gyonggi massifs, almost formed in Neoarchean, and the main part of China-Korea paleocontinentwas formed at the end of Archean. At the end of Palaeo-proterozoic ( ca. 1 600Ma or 1 800Ma) , along with the Machonlyong Sea closed, the Rangrim and Gwanmo microcontinents became a whole massif through collision, which called Machonlyong motion ( corresponding to Luliang motion in China). After Machonlyong motion, the Korea Peninsula as one part of China-Korea paleocontinent entered into relatively stable evolution stage.
Keywords:Korean Peninsula  Rangrim microcontinent  Machonlyong Sea  China-Korea paleocontinent
