| Abstract: | An increasing interest in the use of scale models to simulate tectonic processes has led us to design, construct and test several kinds of apparatus for model deformation. According to the boundary conditions required, a model may be deformed in one of several rigs of different design. All the rigs are powered by one drive system which may be controlled manually or automatically to provide the desired stresses or strain-rates in the model. Rig components are designed to be as interchangeable as possible. |
