The counter-gradient terms in the computations of turbulent fluxes of heat and moisture have been included in the PBL parameterization of a regional model for monsoon prediction. Results show that inclusion of counter-gra-dient terms has a marginal impact in the prediction of large scale monsoon circulation and rainfall rates.  相似文献

This study has investigated the possible relation between the Indian summer monsoon and the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) observed in the sea surface temperature (SST) of the North Pacific Ocean. Using long records of observations and coupled model (NCAR CCSM4) simulation, this study has found that the warm (cold) phase of the PDO is associated with deficit (excess) rainfall over India. The PDO extends its influence to the tropical Pacific and modifies the relation between the monsoon rainfall and El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). During the warm PDO period, the impact of El Niño (La Niña) on the monsoon rainfall is enhanced (reduced). A hypothesis put forward for the mechanism by which PDO affects the monsoon starts with the seasonal footprinting of SST from the North Pacific to the subtropical Pacific. This condition affects the trade winds, and either strengthens or weakens the Walker circulation over the Pacific and Indian Oceans depending on the phase of the PDO. The associated Hadley circulation in the monsoon region determines the impact of PDO on the monsoon rainfall. We suggest that knowing the phase of PDO may lead to better long-term prediction of the seasonal monsoon rainfall and the impact of ENSO on monsoon.  相似文献

The seasonal prediction skill of the Asian summer monsoon is assessed using retrospective predictions (1982–2009) from the ECMWF System 4 (SYS4) and NCEP CFS version 2 (CFSv2) seasonal prediction systems. In both SYS4 and CFSv2, a cold bias of sea-surface temperature (SST) is found over the equatorial Pacific, North Atlantic, Indian Oceans and over a broad region in the Southern Hemisphere relative to observations. In contrast, a warm bias is found over the northern part of North Pacific and North Atlantic. Excessive precipitation is found along the ITCZ, equatorial Atlantic, equatorial Indian Ocean and the maritime continent. The southwest monsoon flow and the Somali Jet are stronger in SYS4, while the south-easterly trade winds over the tropical Indian Ocean, the Somali Jet and the subtropical northwestern Pacific high are weaker in CFSv2 relative to the reanalysis. In both systems, the prediction of SST, precipitation and low-level zonal wind has greatest skill in the tropical belt, especially over the central and eastern Pacific where the influence of El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is dominant. Both modeling systems capture the global monsoon and the large-scale monsoon wind variability well, while at the same time performing poorly in simulating monsoon precipitation. The Asian monsoon prediction skill increases with the ENSO amplitude, although the models simulate an overly strong impact of ENSO on the monsoon. Overall, the monsoon predictive skill is lower than the ENSO skill in both modeling systems but both systems show greater predictive skill compared to persistence.  相似文献

From MONEX to the global monsoon: A review of monsoon system research   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Substantial progress has been made over the past three decades since the Monsoon Experiments(MONEX) of 1978–79. Here, we review these achievements by highlighting four breakthroughs in monsoon research:(1) The identification of the coupled ocean–land–atmosphere nature of the monsoon in the process of the annual cycle of solar heating;(2) new understanding of the changes in the driving forces of monsoon systems, with anthropogenic factors(climate effects of increased greenhouse gas and aerosol emissions) playing an important role in the regulation of monsoons;(3) detection of the interdecadal- and centennial-scale variability of monsoon systems, and its attribution to the combined impact of global warming and natural(especially oceanic) effects; and(4) the emerging concept of the global monsoon and its long-term variation under the impact of global climate change. All the observational and model-derived evidence demonstrates that the monsoon system, as an important component of the global climate system, has already changed and will continue to change in the future. This picture of an evolving monsoon system poses great challenges for near-term prediction and long-term projection.  相似文献

本文系统回顾了2013年汛期气候预测的主要先兆信号。其信号特征是:2013年前期赤道中东太平洋呈正常略偏冷的状态、冬季北极海冰异常偏少、青藏高原积雪偏少,这些特征对后期东亚夏季风有明显影响。通过对前期先兆信号的分析,国家气候中心比较准确地预测了东亚夏季风偏强、我国夏季主要多雨带偏北的特征,以及南海夏季风爆发偏早、长江中下游入梅偏晚且雨量少雨期短、华北雨季提前雨量偏多的季节内过程演变趋势。最后对汛期气候预测存在的不足进行了分析和讨论。  相似文献

General circulation models still show deficiencies in simulating the basic features of the West African Monsoon at intraseasonal, seasonal and interannual timescales. It is however, difficult to disentangle the remote versus regional factors that contribute to such deficiencies, and to diagnose their possible consequences for the simulation of the global atmospheric variability. The aim of the present study is to address these questions using the so-called grid point nudging technique, where prognostic atmospheric fields are relaxed either inside or outside the West African Monsoon region toward the ERA40 reanalysis. This regional or quasi-global nudging is tested in ensembles of boreal summer simulations. The impact is evaluated first on the model climatology, then on intraseasonal timescales with an emphasis on North Atlantic/Europe weather regimes, and finally on interannual timescales. Results show that systematic biases in the model climatology over West Africa are mostly of regional origin and have a limited impact outside the domain. A clear impact is found however on the eddy component of the extratropical circulation, in particular over the North Atlantic/European sector. At intraseasonal timescale, the main regional biases also resist to the quasi-global nudging though their magnitude is reduced. Conversely, nudging the model over West Africa exerts a strong impact on the frequency of the two North Atlantic weather regimes that favor the occurrence of heat waves over Europe. Significant impacts are also found at interannual timescale. Not surprisingly, the quasi-global nudging allows the model to capture the variability of large-scale dynamical monsoon indices, but exerts a weaker control on rainfall variability suggesting the additional contribution of regional processes. Conversely, nudging the model toward West Africa suppresses the spurious ENSO teleconnection that is simulated over Europe in the control experiment, thereby emphasizing the relevance of a realistic West African monsoon simulation for seasonal prediction in the extratropics. Further experiments will be devoted to case studies aiming at a better understanding of regional processes governing the monsoon variability and of the possible monsoon teleconnections, especially over Europe.  相似文献

This study examined the relationship between the boreal spring(April?May) Antarctic Oscillation(AAO) and the North American summer monsoon(NASM)(July?September) for the period of 1979?2008.The results show that these two systems are closely related.When the spring AAO was stronger than normal,the NASM tended to be weaker,and there was less rainfall over the monsoon region.The opposite NASM situation corresponded to a weaker spring AAO.Further analysis explored the possible mechanism for the delayed impact of the boreal spring AAO on the NASM.It was found that the tropical Atlantic sea surface temperature(SST) plays an important role in the connection between the two phenomena.The variability of the boreal spring AAO can produce anomalous SSTs over the tropical Atlantic.These SST anomalies can persist from spring to summer and can influence the Bermuda High,affecting water vapor transportation to the monsoon region.Through these processes,the boreal spring AAO exerts a significantly delayed impact on the amount of NASM precipitation.Thus,information about the boreal spring AAO is valuable for the prediction of the NASM.  相似文献

简要综述了第六届亚洲大洋洲地球科学学会(AOGS)学术年会有关天气和气候的可预报性、协同亚洲季风试验、季风变化及其模拟与预测、气候变化与热带气候灾害、中层大气研究、中尺度气象学与台风研究以及卫星资料应用等方面的报告内容。在全球气候变化的大背景下,季风的年代际变化特征,可能成因及其对天气气候的影响是目前研究的热点问题之一。对亚洲季风系统形成机制的探讨及其与气候系统关系的研究有助于提高数值模式对季风系统的模拟能力,从而能够更好地预测季风系统及其演变。集合预报,特别是多模式超级集合预报方法引起了人们广泛的兴趣。研究报告指出,多个积云对流参数化方案的集成、集合卡曼滤波、条件非线性最优扰动法以及滑动训练期超级集合预报技术对数值天气预报的准确率都有明显改善。"可预报性障碍"在数值模式对大气环流的预报中同样存在。"可预报性障碍"本质上反映了系统的季节变化对预报结果的影响。研究还表明,热带气旋频率和强度的变化取决于在其形成的海域是动力因子还是热力因子起主导作用,如热力因子起主导作用则气候变暖会使该区域的热带气旋活动频率和强度增加。一些研究指出,中高纬度阻塞形势持续异常及南海的热源异常可能是造成2008年初中国南方低温、雨雪和冰冻灾害的主要原因。Formosat-2和Formosat-3等卫星观测资料的广泛应用将极大地提高数值天气预报、气候监测和空间天气预报水平。  相似文献

基于季风区对流层中高层副高脊附近的经向温度梯度能表征季节转换和季风爆发的物理本质这一事实,使用1980—1999年过渡季节期间(3~5月)逐日和月平均的NCEP/NCAR高空温度场再分析资料,对该温度梯度潜在的预报季风爆发进行了分析。结果表明:在已知初始时刻孟加拉湾季风区对流层中高层经向温度梯度的前提下,依据初始时刻的经向温度梯度和气候平均的经向增温率梯度,可以对孟加拉湾季风爆发的迟早做出定性预测。另外,由于孟加拉湾地区季风爆发日期与3月份青藏高原上空对流层中高层气温有显著相关,故前期高原上空对流层中高层的气温高低也是判断孟加拉湾季风爆发迟早的重要因子。对2000年和2001年孟加拉湾季风爆发迟早定性预测的结果表明,这两种预报方法具有潜在的应用价值。  相似文献

Since the early or late arrival of monsoon rainfall can be devastating to agriculture and economy, the prediction of the onset of monsoon is a very important issue. The Asian monsoon is characterized by a strong annual cycle with rainy summer and dry winter. Nevertheless, most of monsoon studies have focused on the seasonal-mean of temperature and precipitation. The present study aims to evaluate a total of 27 coupled models that participated in phase 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5) for projection of the time evolution and the intensity of Asian monsoon on the basis of the annual cycle of temperature and precipitation. And future changes of onset, retreat, and intensity of monsoon are analyzed. Four models for good seasonal-mean (GSM) and good harmonic (GH) groups, respectively, are selected. GSM is based on the seasonal-mean of temperature and precipitation in summer and winter, and GH is based on the annual cycle of temperature and precipitation which represents a characteristic of the monsoon. To compare how well the time evolution of the monsoon is simulated in each group, the onset, retreat, and duration of Asian monsoon are examined. The highest pattern correlation coefficient (PCC) of onset, retreat, and duration between the reanalysis data and model outputs demonstrates that GH models’ MME predicts time evolution of monsoon most precisely, with PCC values of 0.80, 0.52, and 0.63, respectively. To predict future changes of the monsoon, the representative concentration pathway 4.5 (RCP 4.5) experiments for the period of 2073-2099 are compared with historical simulations for the period of 1979-2005 from CMIP5 using GH models’ MME. The Asian monsoon domain is expanded by 22.6% in the future projection. The onset date in the future is advanced over most parts of Asian monsoon region. The duration of summer Asian monsoon in the future projection will be lengthened by up to 2 pentads over the Asian monsoon region, as a result of advanced onset. The Asian monsoon intensity becomes stronger with the passage of time. This study has important implication for assessment of CMIP5 models in terms of the prediction of time evolution and intensity of Asian monsoon based on the annual cycle of temperature and precipitation.  相似文献

南海夏季风槽是南海夏季风的重要组成部分,它的活动不仅对大气环流和气候有明显影响,其本身也具有明显的年际变化特征。首先定义了一个描写南海夏季风槽强度的指数,然后分别对强、弱南海夏季风槽年的例子进行了合成分析。分析结果表明,对应强、弱不同的南海夏季风槽年份,在大气环流背景、对流活动以及海温背景场方面都有很明显的区别,说明南海夏季风槽的异常不是偶然的,有其十分明显的大背景。合成分析的结果还表明,南海夏季风槽的强弱异常不仅对中国夏季降水有重要影响,还会通过遥相关过程影响北半球的其他区域。  相似文献

基于自适应网络模糊推理系统(ANFIS),讨论了滤除主信号之上影响因子噪声音的方法和途径,针对2010年的副热带高压异常的天气事实,首先用时滞相关法从观测资料中分析出2010年夏季风系统主要成员中对副热带高压异常影响最显著的3个因子:马斯克林高压、索马里低空急流和印度季风潜热通量,并用ANFIS诊断检测了这3个因子对副热带高压异常的影响和贡献。由于ANFIS系统具有非线性、容错性和自适应学习等特性,因此适宜于研究和模拟副热带高压等动力学不易准确描述的问题。在此诊断分析基础上,采用遗传算法和动力重构理论相结合的技术路径,从2010年实际的观测资料序列中客观准确地反演重构出非线性的副热带高压及其影响因子的动力模型,并对其进行了动力延伸预报试验。多次试验结果表明,预报的副热带高压面积指数、马斯克林冷高压强度指数、索马里低空急流和印度潜热通量指数在25天以内的中短期预报效果较好,误差不超过10%,并且预报出了指数的变化趋势。为西太平洋副热带高压与东亚夏季风系统的关联性和西太平洋副热带高压指数预测研究提供了一种新的思路和方法。  相似文献

对中国科学院大气物理研究所2007年的夏季(6~8月)降水预测进行检验,结果表明,3月底的预测与实况有一定差异,6月的预测有所改进。简要讨论了2007年夏季的主要降水过程及其成因。2007年夏季华南、长江中下游和淮河流域先后出现梅雨锋强降水,6月中旬和8月中旬出现两次Rossby波列的下游发展效应,引起陕甘宁一次强降水以及加强了圣帕台风引起的强降水。7月上中旬出现高压脊发展后,下游小低槽强烈斜压发展过程引起淮河出现致洪暴雨以及济南暴雨灾害。7月中下旬,由于阻高南侧的3次高空槽切断过程,造成重庆地区以及山西和豫西的暴雨灾害。在东亚季风区,夏季大气季节内振荡很显著,而且对降水的时空分布有重要影响。由于短期气候预测对夏季风季节内变化的预测还是一个难点,这给汛期降水的可预报性带来了限制。  相似文献

东亚夏季风可显著影响中国季风区气候变化,但是季风区植被净初级生产力(NPP)对夏季风气候变化的响应机理尚不明确。利用大气—植被相互作用模型(AVIM2)模拟了中国季风区植被NPP,分析了其与夏季风指数的相关关系,探讨了其对夏季风变化的响应机理。研究发现,我国南、北方植被对夏季风强度变化的响应方式和机理并不相同。强夏季风年北方植被NPP增加,而南方植被NPP减少。东亚夏季风对中国华北平原植被生长季NPP的作用主要是通过影响该地降水量实现的;京、津、冀地区植被NPP受东亚夏季风带来的气温和降水量变化的叠加影响,因而成为北方对夏季风变化最敏感的区域。东亚夏季风对我国南方江苏、安徽、湖南、湖北、江西植被NPP的作用是通过影响太阳辐射实现的,强夏季风导致太阳辐射减弱,从而使各省植被NPP减少。南方沿海的浙江和福建,强季风年带来的弱太阳辐射和低温是该地植被NPP减少的原因。广东、台湾植被NPP则主要受强夏季风带来的低温影响。  相似文献
