We analyze a system of equations for nonstationary transfer of resonant radiation taking into account nonlinear effects, and with partial frequency redistribution using a two-level model of the atom. We suggest a method for solving the corresponding problem in a three-dimensional plane-parallel medium.Translated from Astrofizika, Vol. 38, No. 1, pp. 87–97, January–March, 1995.  相似文献

The He II → He I recombination of primordial helium plasma (z ? 1500–3000) is considered in terms of the standard cosmological model. This process affects the formation of cosmic microwave background anisotropy and spectral distortions. We investigate the effect of neutral hydrogen on the He II → He I recombination kinetics with partial and complete redistributions of radiation in frequency in the He I resonance lines. We show that to properly compute the He II → He I recombination kinetics, it is important to take into account not only the wings in the absorption and emission profiles of the He I resonance lines, but also the mechanism of the redistribution of resonance photons in frequency. Thus, for example, the relative difference in the numbers of free electrons for the model using Doppler absorption and emission profiles and the model using a partial redistribution in frequency is 1–1.3% for the epoch z = 1770–1920. The relative difference in the numbers of free electrons for the model using a partial redistribution in frequency and the model using a complete redistribution in frequency is 1–3.8% for the epoch z = 1750–2350.  相似文献

Resonance polarization, which is created by the scattering of an anisotropic radiation field in regions of zero or weak magnetic fields, is strongly dependent on the frequency redistribution taking place during the scatterings. Here we discuss the frequency redistribution matrix relevant to resonance lines, concentrating on linear polarization. First we analyze in detail the redistribution matrix in a zero magnetic field given by the theory of Omont, Smith and Cooper (1972), revisited by Domke and Hubeny (1988). We explain that the linear polarization maxima which may appear in the wings of the Stokes Q profiles of strong resonances lines such as the Ca I 4227 Å line are coherent frequency redistribution effects. Various approximate forms of the frequency redistribution matrix are also examined. For resonance polarization in a weak magnetic field, we suggest a new expression for the redistribution matrix which can be used at all line frequencies, and is consistent with the condition that the Hanle effect acts only in the line core.  相似文献

This paper presents some numerical results relative to a solution, based on the density matrix formalism, of the non-LTE, polarized radiative transfer problem for a two-level atom. The results concern the atomic upper level population and alignment, and the emergent radiation Stokes profiles, for a plane-parallel, static, isothermal atmosphere embedded in a magnetic field of intermediate strength, such that the Zeeman splitting has to be taken into account in the line profile. Zeeman coherences are neglected, whereas magneto-optical effects are taken into account, resulting in a full 4×4 absorption matrix. Induced emission is neglected and complete frequency redistribution, in the rest and laboratory frames, is assumed. Pure Doppler absorption profile (gaussian shape) has also been assumed. The presentation of the results is preceded by a brief discussion of their accuracy and of the numerical difficulties that were met in the solution of the problem. On leave from the Dipartimento di Astronomia e Scienza dello Spazio, Università di Firenze, Largo E. This paper presents observations of the MgII h and k lines obtained with the UVSP instrument that flew aboard the SMM satellite. Both spatially averaged and resolved observations are compared with calculated profiles of the lines from standard, plane-parallel solar models. The radiative transfer calculations presented take full account of partial frequency redistribution and wavelength overlap of the h and k lines. A comparison between theoretical and observed wing profiles indicates that current one-dimensional models underestimate the temperature in the middle photosphere. The cores of spatially resolved dark intra-network profiles are well reproduced by the model calculations, while the spatially averaged profiles have in general broader emission peaks, indicating that the additional broadening is due to a contribution of magnetic network profiles.  相似文献

The analysis of the transition from the large-scale fluid regime to the short-scale kinetic range of wavelengths in the development of the turbulent cascade of energy is nowadays subject of fervent discussion in the space plasmas scientific community. We make use of Hybrid Vlasov-Maxwell simulations where the full kinetic dynamics of ions is taken into account, while electrons are treated as a fluid. We investigate the development of turbulence in the solar wind, in 1D-3V phase space configuration and in the frequency range across the ion cyclotron frequency. These simulations allow for the analysis of the role of kinetic effects in the short-scale region of the energy spectra in the direction parallel to the background magnetic field. Our numerical results show the presence of a significant electrostatic activity at small wavelengths, triggered by the resonant interaction of ions with longitudinal waves. Our model does not allow to take into account the evolution of the turbulent spectra in the plane perpendicular to the ambient field, due to limited dimensionality in phase space. On the other hand, this model permits to isolate and study the possibility of transferring the electromagnetic large-scale energy on the small-scale kinetic electrostatic component of the spectrum. Peculiar features observed in the spacecraft data in the solar wind are qualitatively reproduced within the hybrid-Vlasov model, such as the generation of perpendicular temperature anisotropy and accelerated longitudinal beams of ions in the distribution of particle velocities as well as the appearance of a marked peak of electrostatic activity in the short-scale termination of the turbulent spectra.  相似文献

A further extension of the theory of interacting matter-radiation cosmological models is presented. The neutrino contribution to the radiation field is explicitly included. A discussion and interpretation of the observables within the theory is given. Mean evolutionary corrections for galaxies are shown to be implied by these models. Finally, as an example we present a cosmological interpretation of quasars.  相似文献

The theory of polarized scattering in a stellar atmosphere is formulated, first within the framework of classical physics, then in terms of quantum mechanics. The expression for the redistribution matrix that describes partial redistribution in polarization and frequency is derived for the general case when the magnetic field is of arbitrary strength. The special cases of weak fields (the Hanle limit) and zero fields (non-magnetic scattering) are discussed. Observational examples of spectral signatures in linear polarization are presented, which show effects of hyperfine structure, interference between fine structure components, and molecular scattering.  相似文献

We have obtained a simultaneous solution of the statistical equilibrium equation for a non-LTE two-level atom and the radiative transfer equation in the comoving frames by employing the angle-averaged partial frequency redistribution.R i with isotropic scattering. In the first iteration we have set the population density of the upper level equal to zero and allow it to be populated in the subsequent iterations. The solution converges within two to four iterations. The process of iteration is terminated when the ratios of population densities in two successive iterations at each radial point, attain an accuracy of 1%. The effects of partial frequency redistribution is to increase the population density of the upper level. Radial gas motions do not seem to have significant effects, although in highly extend geometries, velocity gradients change the population densities considerably.  相似文献

A comparison of mean number of scatterings and escape probabilities has been made in isotropic scattering and dipole scattering by using the angle-averaged partial frequency redistribution functionR I. We have solved the equations of radiative transfer and statistical equilibrium simultaneously in a spherically symmetric expanding atmosphere. Two cases of atmospheric extension (i.e.)B/A=3 and 10 (whereB andA are the outer and inner radii of the atmosphere) have been treated. We find that the partial frequency redistribution gives a larger mean number of scatterings compared to that given by complete redistribution. Velocities tend to reduce the mean number of scatterings and in crease the mean escape probabilities.

The propagation of weak waves has been studied by taking into account the influence of thermal radiative field. The singular surface theory is used to determine the modes of wave propagation and to evaluate the behaviour at the wave head. The effects of thermal radiation, conduction and the initial wave front curvature on the nonlinear breaking of weak waves are discussed. It is concluded that, under the thermal radiation effects, the shock wave formation is either disallowed or delayed. On the other hand, the thermal conduction effects destabilize the waves.  相似文献

We present theoretical Ca ii K-line profiles and filtergram contrasts for several recent models of solar faculae. The line profiles vary greatly between models and between complete and partial frequency redistribution non-LTE calculations for any given model. The filtergram contrasts are relatively insensitive to the line formation theory which greatly simplifies the calculation for comparison with observations. All of the models considered exhibit K-line contrasts smaller than the mean value observed by Mehltretter.Operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under contract with the National Science Foundation.  相似文献

The mutual influence between two whistler mode waves, through cyclotron resonant interaction of each wave with the same set of energetic electrons, is analysed both theoretically and by computer simulations ; this two-wave interaction mechanism seems to be an important process in understanding recently observed phenomena in Siple Station VLF multi-wave injection experiments. A criterion is established to estimate the threshold for the critical frequency spacing (for given wave amplitudes) for a significant mutual interaction between two monochromatic waves to occur. This criterion is based on the overlap of coherence bandwidths associated with the trapping domains of each wave and it takes into account the geomagnetospheric medium inhomogeneity. The effects of a perturbing second wave on electrons trapped by a first wave is discussed, considering the general situation of varying-frequency waves, and a simulation model is used to track the motion of test-electrons in the two-waves field. Conditions leading to detrapping and subsequent trapping by the second wave of previously first-wave trapped electrons are analysed and suggest the possibility of this phenomenon to play an important role in frequency entrainment and energy exchange between two waves.  相似文献

Neutrino spin precession effects in the magnetic field of the Sun are considered as an explanation of the outcome of Davis' solar neutrino experiments. Theoretically, it is possible to account for a neutrino magnetic moment only as the result of the interaction of the electromagnetic field with charged particles into which the neutrino can transform virtually. The currently accepted theory of weak interactions (the two component neutrino andV-A interactions) forbids a resulting magnetic moment interaction with the electromagnetic field for all such virtual processes. Modifications of this theory are considered to find out whether an appreciable precession effect is permitted within the experimentally established limits. It is found that the value for the neutrino magnetic moment evaluated under these theoretically anomalous circumstances is still so small that only the largest possible estimate for the magnetic field strength in the Sun's interior would cause the required effect. The author has received scholarship support from the Latin American Scholarship Program of American Universities during the preparation of this work.  相似文献

The effects of partial frequency redistribution on the formation of spectral lines have been studied. We considered the angle-averaged RII, RIII andR v types of redistribution with isotropic phase function, Transfer equation with plane-parallel geometry is solved in isothermal atmospheres. For an atmosphere with constant thermal sources, the frequency-dependent source function SL (R v) lies below SL (RIII) but above SL(R III) in the line wings.  相似文献

The effects of partial redistribution of frequency on the formation of spectral lines in a static and spherically symmetric media have been investigated. The partial redistribution functionsR I andR II (Hummer, 1962) have been employed to calculate the lines for a two-level atom in non-LTE in a spherically symmetric medium with homogenous physical characteristics whose ratiosB/A (of outer to inner radii) are equal to 2 and 10. These results are compared with those formed in a plane-parallel medium withB/A=1. Two types of atmosphere are treated: (1) a pure scattering medium with =0 and =0, and (2) an atmosphere with a constant source of emission =10–4 and =0, where is the probability per scatter that a photon will be destroyed by collisional de-excitation and is the ratioK c/K l of opacity due to continuous absorption per unit interval of frequency to that in the line. Lines formed in complete redistribution also have been calculated for the sake of comparison, and the total optical depth in all cases has been taken to be 103 at the line centre.Vast differences have been found between the lines formed by complete and partial redistribution functions (which, for the sake of simplicity, we shall hereafter refer to as CRD and PRD, respectively). In the case of a purely scattering medium, a small amount of emission is observed in the wings for all cases of scattering functions in the spherical medium as a result of the combined effects of curvature and physical scattering. In the scattering medium, more photons are scattered into the cores of the lines by PRD than in the case of CRD. The lines formed in the medium with internal sources show emission in all cases with small absorption in the cores, except those lines formed by the angle-dependent PRD functions which again depend on the geometrical extension of the medium.  相似文献

Improved differential equations of the rotation of the deformable Earth with the two-layer fluid core are developed. The equations describe both the precession-nutational motion and the axial rotation (i.e. variations of the Universal Time UT). Poincaré’s method of modeling the dynamical effects of the fluid core, and Sasao’s approach for calculating the tidal interaction between the core and mantle in terms of the dynamical Love number are generalized for the case of the two-layer fluid core. Some important perturbations ignored in the currently adopted theory of the Earth’s rotation are considered. In particular, these are the perturbing torques induced by redistribution of the density within the Earth due to the tidal deformations of the Earth and its core (including the effects of the dissipative cross interaction of the lunar tides with the Sun and the solar tides with the Moon). Perturbations of this kind could not be accounted for in the adopted Nutation IAU 2000, in which the tidal variations of the moments of inertia of the mantle and core are the only body tide effects taken into consideration. The equations explicitly depend on the three tidal phase lags δ, δ c, δ i responsible for dissipation of energy in the Earth as a whole, and in its external and inner cores, respectively. Apart from the tidal effects, the differential equations account for the non-tidal interaction between the mantle and external core near their boundary. The equations are presented in a simple close form suitable for numerical integration. Such integration has been carried out with subsequent fitting the constructed numerical theory to the VLBI-based Celestial Pole positions and variations of UT for the time span 1984–2005. Details of the fitting are given in the second part of this work presented as a separate paper (Krasinsky and Vasilyev 2006) hereafter referred to as Paper 2. The resulting Weighted Root Mean Square (WRMS) errors of the residuals dθ, sin θd for the angles of nutation θ and precession are 0.136 mas and 0.129 mas, respectively. They are significantly less than the corresponding values 0.172 and 0.165 mas for IAU 2000 theory. The WRMS error of the UT residuals is 18 ms.  相似文献

The Ultraviolet Spectrometer and Polarimeter (UVSP) on the SMM satellite has been used to record the linear polarization profile across the Mgii h and k lines, including its center-to-limb variation. Linear polarization with an orientation of the electric vector parallel to the solar limb is detected in the line wings on the short wavelength side of the k line and on the long wavelength side of the h line, in agreement with theoretical predictions of Auer et al. (1980). The predicted negative polarization (electric vector perpendicular to the limb) between the h and k lines is however not confirmed by the observations. Instead values close to zero are indicated there, although the statistical significance of the results is marginal. We have examined possible explanations of such a discrepancy between theory and observations. After having rejected other alternatives (e.g., opacity effects, different continuum polarization, or deviations from a plane-parallel stratification), it is suggested that the solution may be found in a treatment of partial redistribution of the polarized radiation with the quantum-mechanical interference between the two scattering transitions being included as an integral part of the redistribution problem.  相似文献
