It has been shown that the operator‐splitting method (OSM) provides explicit and unconditionally stable solutions for quasi‐static pseudo‐dynamic substructure testing. However, the OSM provides only an explicit target displacement but not an explicit target velocity, so that it is essentially an implicit method for real‐time substructure testing (RST) when the velocity‐dependent restoring force is considered. This paper proposes a target velocity formulation based on the forward difference of the predicted displacements so as to render the OSM explicit for RST. The stability and accuracy of the resulting OSM‐RST algorithm are investigated. It is shown that the OSM‐RST is unconditionally stable so long as the non‐linear stiffness and damping are of the softening type (i.e. the tangent stiffness and damping never exceed the initial values). The stability of the OSM‐RST for structures with infinite tangent damping coefficient or stiffness is also proved, and the stability of the method for MDOF structures with a non‐classical damping matrix is demonstrated by an energy criterion. The effects of actuator delay and compensation are analysed based on the bilinear approximation of the actuator step response. Experiments on damped SDOF and MDOF structures verify that the stability of the OSM‐RST is preserved when the experimental substructure generates velocity‐dependent reaction forces, whereas the stability of real‐time substructure tests based on the central difference method is worsened by the damping of the specimen. A new family of explicit pseudodynamic algorithms is proposed for general pseudodynamic testing. One particular subfamily seems very promising for use in general pseudodynamic testing since the stability problem for a structure does not need to be considered. This is because this subfamily is unconditionally stable for any instantaneous stiffness softening system, linear elastic system and instantaneous stiffness hardening system that might occur in the pseudodynamic testing of a real structure. In addition, it also offers good accuracy when compared to a general second-order accurate method for both linear elastic and nonlinear systems.  相似文献

This paper proposes a non‐iterative time integration (NITI) scheme for non‐linear dynamic FEM analysis. The NITI scheme is constructed by combining explicit and implicit schemes, taking advantage of their merits, and enables stable computation without an iteration process for convergence even when used for non‐linear dynamic problems. Formulation of the NITI scheme is presented and its stability is studied. Although the NITI scheme is not unconditionally stable when applied to non‐linear problems, it is stable in most cases unless stiffness hardening occurs or the problem has a large velocity‐dependent term. The NITI scheme is applied to dynamic analysis of the non‐linear soil–structure system and computation results are compared with those by the central difference method (CDM). Comparison shows that the stability of the NITI scheme is superior to that of the CDM. Accuracy of the NITI scheme is verified because its results are identical with those by the CDM in which the time step is set as 1/10 of that for the NITI scheme. The application of the NITI scheme to the mesh‐partitioned FEM is also proposed. It is applied to dynamic analysis of the linear soil–structure system. It yields the same results as a conventional single‐domain FEM analysis using the Newmark β method. This result verifies the usability of mesh‐partitioned FEM analysis using the NITI scheme. Real‐time hybrid simulation is a viable experiment technique to evaluate the performance of structures equipped with rate‐dependent seismic devices when subject to dynamic loading. The integration algorithm used to solve the equations of motion has to be stable and accurate to achieve a successful real‐time hybrid simulation. The implicit HHT α‐algorithm is a popular integration algorithm for conducting structural dynamic time history analysis because of its desirable properties of unconditional stability for linear elastic structures and controllable numerical damping for high frequencies. The implicit form of the algorithm, however, requires iterations for nonlinear structures, which is undesirable for real‐time hybrid simulation. Consequently, the HHT α‐algorithm has been implemented for real‐time hybrid simulation using a fixed number of substep iterations. The resulting HHT α‐algorithm with a fixed number of substep iterations is believed to be unconditionally stable for linear elastic structures, but research on its stability and accuracy for nonlinear structures is quite limited. In this paper, a discrete transfer function approach is utilized to analyze the HHT α‐algorithm with a fixed number of substep iterations. The algorithm is shown to be unconditionally stable for linear elastic structures, but only conditionally stable for nonlinear softening or hardening structures. The equivalent damping of the algorithm is shown to be almost the same as that of the original HHT α‐algorithm, while the period elongation varies depending on the structural nonlinearity and the size of the integration time‐step. A modified form of the algorithm is proposed to improve its stability for use in nonlinear structures. The stability of the modified algorithm is demonstrated to be enhanced and have an accuracy that is comparable to that of the existing HHT α‐algorithm with a fixed number of substep iterations. Both numerical and real‐time hybrid simulations are conducted to verify the modified algorithm. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the modified algorithm for real‐time testing. 显-隐式组合数值积分算法结合了显式算法无需迭代和隐式算法无条件稳定的各自优点,是结构抗震拟动力试验顺利运行的关键.在对传统显式中央差分法和隐式Newmark β组合算法进行参数修正的基础上,建立了修正CD-Newmark算法,考虑阻尼的影响分析了组合算法的稳定性条件、周期失真率和数值阻尼比,分别得到了试验子结构的稳定性条件和计算子结构无条件稳定的参数合理取值范围,并对计算精度进行了分析.通过算例分析验证了算法的数值特性,从而初步解决了CD-Newmark算法存在稳定性界限过严的问题,为结构抗震拟动力混合试验提供了研究参考.  相似文献

The convergence and stability of step-by-step integration schemes used in the inelastic dynamic analysis of structures and their corresponding criteria were studied for a restoring force model with negative-stiffness. Convergence conditions and stability conditions 1, 2 or 3 were established. The numerical stability of the integration under negative-stiffness belongs to the category of relative stability; consequently, the concepts and the conclusions concerning numerical stability in the case of positive-stiffness (which belongs to absolute stability) cannot be used. Research into several step-by-step integration methods usually employed in inelastic dynamic analysis has shown great differences in numerical stability for models with negative-stiffness as compared with positive-stiffness models. The central difference method is convergent and unconditionally stable in the case of negative-stiffness, though it is only conditionally stable in the case of positive-stiffness. The Houbolt method satisfies the requirement for convergence; its stability, however, depends not only on the integration step size Δt but also on the stiffness ratio β for the model with negative-stiffness, unlike the unconditional stability for the model with positive-stiffness. The Newmark constant acceleration method is convergent and unconditionally stable in the case of negative-stiffness just like it is in the case of positive-stiffness.  相似文献

The use of unconditionally stable implicit time integration techniques for pseudodynamic tests has been recently proposed and advanced by several researchers. Inspired by such developments, a pseudodynamic test scheme based on an unconditionally stable implicit time integration algorithm and dual displacement control is presented in this paper. The accuracy of the proposed scheme is proved with error-propagation analysis. It is shown by numerical examples and verification tests that the error-correction method incorporated can eliminate the spurious higher-mode response, which can often be excited by experimental errors. The practicality of the proposed scheme lies in the fact that the implementation is as easy as that of explicit schemes and that the convergence criteria required are compatible with the accuracy limits of ordinary test apparatus.  相似文献

A variant of the Rosenbrock‐W integration method is proposed for real‐time dynamic substructuring and pseudo‐dynamic testing. In this variant, an approximation of the Jacobian matrix that accounts for the properties of both the physical and numerical substructures is used throughout the analysis process. Only an initial estimate of the stiffness and damping properties of the physical components is required. It is demonstrated that the method is unconditionally stable provided that specific conditions are fulfilled and that the order accuracy can be maintained in the nonlinear regime without involving any matrix inversion while testing. The method also features controllable numerical energy dissipation characteristics and explicit expression of the target displacement and velocity vectors. The stability and accuracy of the proposed integration scheme are examined in the paper. The method has also been verified through hybrid testing performed of SDOF and MDOF structures with linear and highly nonlinear physical substructures. The results are compared with those obtained from the operator splitting method. An approach based on the modal decomposition principle is presented to predict the potential effect of experimental errors on the overall response during testing. A family of unconditionally stable direct integration algorithm with controllable numerical dissipations is proposed. The numerical properties of the new algorithms are controlled by three parameters α, β and γ. By the consistent and stability analysis, the proposed algorithms achieve the second-order accuracy and are unconditionally stable under the condition that α≥-0.5, β≤ 0.5 and γ≥-(1+α)/2. Compared with other unconditionally stable algorithms, such as Chang's algorithms and CR algorithm, the proposed algorithms are found to be superior in terms of the controllable numerical damping ratios. The unconditional stability and numerical damping ratios of the proposed algorithms are examined by three numerical examples. The results demonstrate that the proposed algorithms have a superior performance and can be used expediently in solving linear elastic dynamics problems.  相似文献

通常工业界实现逆时偏移算法时采用有限差分数值方法模拟地震波场,波场模拟常常受稳定性条件限制,且易产生数值频散,成像精度降低.本文引入了一步法波场延拓方法,首先构建声波传播算子,借助Chebyshev多项式和Jacobi-Anger展开式近似传播算子中的e指数项,进而实现波场递推,该方法时间步长的选取不受稳定性条件限制而且不存在空间频散现象.本文将一步法波场延拓方法用于逆时偏移成像的波场模拟,并提出双缓冲区存储策略,在不增加计算量的前提下,大幅降低了逆时偏移方法的波场存储量.波场模拟和逆时偏移成像测试表明,本文提出的一步法波场延拓方法模拟地震波场精度高,消除了频散影响,可在较大时间步长的情况下实现高精度波场模拟;提出的基于一步法波场延拓的逆时偏移方法成像质量好;基于双缓冲区存储策略的逆时偏移成像方法存储成本低.  相似文献

The time-integration algorithm is an indispensable element to determine response of the boundary of the numerical as well as physical parts in a hybrid test. Instability of the time-integration algorithm may directly lead to failure of the test, so stability of an integration algorithm is particularly important for hybrid testing. The explicit algorithms are very popular in hybrid testing, because iteration is not needed. Many unconditionally stable explicit-algorithms have been proposed for hybrid testing. However, the stability analysis approaches used in all these methods are valid only for linear systems. In this paper, a uniform formulation for energy-consistent time integrations, which are unconditionally stable, is proposed for nonlinear systems. The solvability and accuracy are analyzed for typical energy-consistent algorithms. Some numerical examples and the results of a hybrid test are provided to validate the effectiveness of energy-consistent algorithms.  相似文献

The energy approach is used to theoretically verify that the average acceleration method (AAM), which is unconditionally stable for linear dynamic systems, is also unconditionally stable for structures with typical nonlinear damping, including the special case of velocity power type damping with a bilinear restoring force model. Based on the energy approach, the stability of the AAM is proven for SDOF structures using the mathematical features of the velocity power function and for MDOF structures by applying the virtual displacement theorem. Finally, numerical examples are given to demonstrate the accuracy of the theoretical analysis.  相似文献

In quasi‐static tests for structures with multi‐DOF, the forces exerted to the structures commonly follow a prescribed force profile, for example, triangular pattern and/or uniform pattern. Therefore, force control is the natural choice. However, force control is no longer applicable when the specimens sustain significant stiffness and strength degradation, particularly in collapse tests. To solve this problem, a force–displacement mixed control algorithm is proposed, which is able to achieve stable control in quasi‐static tests following prescribed force profiles. On the basis of the FlexTest IIm platform of the MTS Systems Corporation (14000 Technology Dr, Eden Prairie, MN 55344 United States), a test program named Tsinghua University mixed control test program, which uses a mixed control algorithm, was developed. The algorithm was initially applied to an elastic test of a cantilever column to verify its accuracy and stability and then to a collapse test of a multistory RC frame to investigate its effectiveness. In the collapse test, the effects of major control parameters, that is, the number of iterative rounds and the loading time of each round on the control accuracy, were also studied. The test results show that the test program applying the mixed control algorithm can achieve stable control of the collapse tests maintaining the expected force profile. This paper employs a velocity plus displacement(V+D)-based equivalent force control(EFC) method to solve the velocity/displacement difference equation in a real-time substructure test. This method uses type 2 feedback control loops to replace mathematical iteration to solve the nonlinear dynamic equation. A spectral radius analysis of the amplification matrix shows that the type 2 EFC-explicit, Newmark-β method has beneficial numerical characteristics for this method. Its stability limit of Ω = 2 remains unchanged regardless of the system damping because the velocity is achieved with very high accuracy during simulation. In contrast, the stability limits of the central difference method using direct velocity prediction and the EFC-average acceleration method with linear interpolation are shown to decrease with an increase in system damping. In fact, the EFC-average acceleration method is shown to change from unconditionally stable to conditionally stable. We also show that if an over-damped system with a damping ratio of 1.05 is considered, the stability limit is reduced to Ω =1.45. Finally, the results from an experiment with a single-degree-of-freedom structure installed with a magneto-rheological(MR) damper are presented. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is able to follow both displacement and velocity commands with moderate accuracy, resulting in improved test performance and accuracy for structures that are sensitive to both velocity and displacement inputs. Although the findings of the study are promising, additional test data and several further improvements will be required to draw general conclusions.  相似文献

Online hybrid tests (called the online tests), particularly when combined with substructuring techniques, are able to conduct large‐scale tests. An extension of this technique is to combine multiple loading tests conducted in remote locations and to integrate the tests with large numerical analysis codes. In this study, a new Internet online test system is developed in which a physical test is conducted in one place, the associated numerical analysis is performed in a remote location, and the two locations communicate over the Internet. To implement the system, a technique that links test and analysis domains located at different places is proposed, and an Internet data exchange interface is devised to allow data communication across Internet. A practical method that utilizes standard protocols implemented by operating systems for sharing files and folders is adopted to ensure stable and robust communication between remotely located servers that commonly protect themselves by strict firewalls. To combine the online test with a finite element program formulated in an incremental form and adopting an implicit integration scheme, a tangent stiffness prediction procedure is proposed. In this procedure, a tangent stiffness is estimated based on a few previous steps of experimental data. Using the system devised, tests on a base‐isolated structure were carried out. Here, the base‐isolation layer was taken as the tested part and tested in Kyoto University, Japan, and the superstructure was modelled by means of a finite element program and analysed in a computer located in Osaka University. A series of physical Internet online tests were carried out, with the integration time interval and the method of tangent stiffness prediction as the major parameters. The tests demonstrated that the Internet communication was very stable and robust, without malfunctions. The proposed method of stiffness prediction was effective even when the experimental hysteresis curves exhibited complex behaviour, thereby ensuring accurate simulation for the earthquake response of the entire structure. The implicit dissipative generalized‐ α method is analyzed using discrete control theory. Based on this analysis, a one‐parameter family of explicit direct integration algorithms with controllable numerical energy dissipation, referred to as the explicit KR‐α method, is developed for linear and nonlinear structural dynamic numerical analysis applications. Stability, numerical dispersion, and energy dissipation characteristics of the proposed algorithms are studied. It is shown that the algorithms are unconditionally stable for linear elastic and stiffness softening‐type nonlinear systems, where the latter indicates a reduction in post yield stiffness in the force–deformation response. The amount of numerical damping is controlled by a single parameter, which provides a measure of the numerical energy dissipation at higher frequencies. Thus, for a specific value of this parameter, the resulting algorithm is shown to produce no numerical energy dissipation. Furthermore, it is shown that the influence of the numerical damping on the lower mode response is negligible. It is further shown that the numerical dispersion and energy dissipation characteristics of the proposed explicit algorithms are the same as that of the implicit generalized‐ α method. A numerical example is presented to demonstrate the potential of the proposed algorithms in reducing participation of undesired higher modes by using numerical energy dissipation to damp out these modes. Real‐time testing with dynamic substructuring is a novel experimental technique capable of assessing the behaviour of structures subjected to dynamic loadings including earthquakes. The technique involves recreating the dynamics of the entire structure by combining an experimental test piece consisting of part of the structure with a numerical model simulating the remainder of the structure. These substructures interact in real time to emulate the behaviour of the entire structure. Time integration is the most versatile method for analysing the general case of linear and non‐linear semi‐discretized equations of motion. In this paper we propose for substructure testing, L‐stable real‐time (LSRT) compatible integrators with two and three stages derived from the Rosenbrock methods. These algorithms are unconditionally stable for uncoupled problems and entail a moderate computational cost for real‐time performance. They can also effectively deal with stiff problems, i.e. complex emulated structures for which solutions can change on a time scale that is very short compared with the interval of time integration, but where the solution of interest changes on a much longer time scale. Stability conditions of the coupled substructures are analysed by means of the zero‐stability approach, and the accuracy of the novel algorithms in the coupled case is assessed in both the unforced and forced conditions. LSRT algorithms are shown to be more competitive than popular Runge–Kutta methods in terms of stability, accuracy and ease of implementation.
