Oxidation of sulfide- and carbonate-rich vein gold deposits under semiarid conditions can be represented as a three-stage process, each creating supergene environments conducive to dissolution and reprecipitation of gold-silver alloys. The three-stage weathering process of sulfide-carbonate gold veins is depth-dependent, and develops from the relatively young, lowermost weathering horizon just below the water table, through an intermediate weathering horizon in the oxidation zone above the water table, and culminating in the oxide-rich upper saprolite and oxisol.Neoformed gold crystals in the weathering profile have distinct composition and morphologic characteristics from the hypogene gold crystals associated with the sulfide- and carbonate-rich ores. Two distinct types of secondary gold are present in the weathering profile: (1) gold crystals associated with sulfates and arsenates; and (2) gold crystals associated with iron and aluminum oxides/hydroxides, or with kaolinite. The distinct crystal morphologies and mineralogical associations of primary and secondary gold are useful in prospecting for gold deposits in weathered terrains.  相似文献

The supergene Au in weathering crusts of both the Suzdal and Raygorodok deposits is characterized by enhanced fineness, grain size, crystallinity, and the appearance of botryoidal aggregates of crystals. In the weathering crust of the Suzdal deposit, the exogenous Au is associated primarily with scorodite and carbonates; for Raygorodok, with chalcocite, bornite, hydrocarbonates and Cu hydrosulfates. The difference in the mineral associations of supergene Au at the deposits is determined by the occurrence of various mineral concentrators of Au in the primary endogenous substrate: arsenopyrite and pyrite at the Suzdal deposit and chalcopyrite with pyrite at the Raygorodok deposit. Due to the much greater mobility of Ag in the supergene zone, the weathering crusts are likely to contain submicron microinclusions of Ag minerals beyond the zones of Au concentration.  相似文献

红色粘土型金矿是表生湿热气候条件下含金基岩经不彻底的红土化作用而形成的一种新类型金矿床。以云南上芒岗、贵州老万场和湖北蛇屋山金矿为例 ,对红色粘土型金矿的成因矿物学特征进行了研究。结果表明 ,表生成因的高岭石 +伊利石 +针铁矿 +自然金组合可作为该类型金矿的标型矿物组合 ;高岭石的 ( 0 0 1 ) X射线衍射峰半高宽可作为标型特征反映介质的酸性程度和硅、铝的饱和程度 ,进而指示金的富集部位 ;针铁矿中的铝置换率可反映红土化程度和粘土中的含水量 ,进而指示古潜水面的位置 ;金的粒度、形态和赋存状态可反映金的迁移富集程度和富集机制。  相似文献

A comparative analysis of morphology and geochemistry was made for gold from the primary ores and weathering crust of the Suzdal' gold deposit, Eastern Kazakhstan. The deposit is localized in Carboniferous carbonaceous-terrigenous strata and is of gold-sulfide type. Study of gold from primary ores showed that it occurs mainly in two species: free and so-called invisible. Free gold is crystallomorphic segregations and irregular-shaped grains up to tens of microns in size; it occurs in intergrowths with sulfides, quartz, carbonate, and mica-chlorite aggregate. Most of gold particles have a fineness of 930–980‰, with some grains showing wide variations in composition. Invisible gold (probably chemically combined) is present in fine-acicular arsenopyrite and, less frequently, pyrite.Being transported to the weathering crust, all this gold served as a source for “neogenic” gold of diverse morphologic forms. We recognized crystalline (isometric, prismatic, acicular, and tabular) particles and drusoid gold aggregates in the form of exotic intergrowths of crystallomorphic and sinter-shelly grains. The grains tend to coarsen from bottom to top of the weathering crust. Several generations of gold of different granulometric classes are observed. We have revealed seed and layer growth and dissolution structures in crystals of early generations overgrown with fine grains. All these gold varieties are associated with hypergene minerals. Most of this gold is of high fineness (on the average, 995‰). The hypergene gold particles are chemically homogeneous high-grade, without rims.The results of studies suggest that the high-grade hypergene gold formed in the weathering crust as a result of the dissolution of invisible gold of sulfides and its local redistribution and deposition in oxidizing media. This is also evidenced from the tendency of gold to coarsen from bottom to top of the weathering crust. The Gay deposit, situated in the Orenburg region, is identified with one of Russia's principal occurrences of pyrite (pyrite deposits are an important source of Russia's gold). It belongs to the west subzone of the Magnitogorsk synclinorium and occurs in Devonian rhyolite-basaltic volcanic rocks. The deposit comprises five large pyrite-chalcopyrite, pyrite-chalcopyrite- sphalerite, and pyrite orebodies. The supergene zone extends to 120-240 m below surface and consists of the following three subhorizontal zones (from bottom to top): the secondary sulfide enrichment, the leaching, and the oxidation zone (where ores are enriched in gold).

There are two levels of secondary gold enrichment in the weathering profile. The lower level, located in the leaching zone, corresponds with the level of water table fluctuations. The rich, flat-lying horizon (1.5-10.0 m) is composed of bedded, friable native sulfur-quartz ores; it contains 19.0-52.2 ppm Au and up to 389 ppm Ag. Native gold and silver halides (chlorargyrite, iodargyrite, and embolite) are the principal precious-metal minerals. Electrum, native silver, acanthite, and uytenbogaardtite constitute the minor ones. The upper level of the enrichment is located in the lower part of gossan. This bonanza is composed of hematite-quartz ochres. Gold concentration is 13.5 to 21.2 ppm. Native gold of high fineness and silver halides apparently are associated here with poorly crystallized iron oxides. The formation of supergene gold enrichments may result partly from residual concentration and partly from mobilization and reprecipitation of the precious metal. Rich horizons form by repeated gold redeposition in accordance with weathering and a gradual erosion surface lowering. The lower bonanza forms at first in the process of oxidation involving pyrite and native sulfur. Gold may be transported by complexes with metastable sulfur oxy-anions: sulfites, thiosulfates, or polythionates. The upper enriched horizon forms in the course of further evolution of the weathering profile in the stage of hematite recrystallizaiton and its transformation into goethite.  相似文献

金矿是班公湖-怒江成矿带的优势矿种之一。由于地质工作程度总体较低,金矿的成矿规律和成矿作用研究相对薄弱,严重制约了金矿的评价。本文在前人已有研究成果的基础上,通过大量的野外地质调查与综合研究成果,初步论述了班公湖-怒江成矿带金的成矿地质背景、金矿床的主要成因类型、时空分布特征和成矿作用。研究结果表明,班公湖-怒江成矿带金矿床(点)在空间分布上具有东西成带,相对集中的分布特征。金主要以共生、伴生的形式存在。矿床类型有矽卡岩型、斑岩型、造山型和浅成低温热液型等4类,其成矿时代集中于晚侏罗世—晚白垩世。依据矿床成因及成矿作用主控因素,可将班公湖-怒江成矿带金矿床归纳为与洋壳俯冲消减作用有关的岩浆热液金成矿系统和与大陆碰撞造山作用有关的金成矿系统。与洋壳俯冲消减作用有关的岩浆热液金成矿系统可进一步划分出浅成低温热液型金矿床、斑岩型铜金矿床、矽卡岩型金铜矿床等3种成因类型;而与大陆碰撞造山作用有关的金成矿系统包括浅成低温热液型铜金矿床、造山型金矿床、矽卡岩型金铜矿床等3种成因类型。  相似文献

Summary The Córrego Bom Sucesso alluvial deposit near Serro, Minas Gerais, probably provided the specimens from which the element palladium was first discovered. Its Pt–Pd nuggets are characteristically botryoidal, arborescent and coralloidal, and exhibit an external halo with the composition of palladiferous platinum to virtually pure platinum. X-ray mapping of an arborescent Pt–Pd nugget from the historical occurrence documents selective palladium depletion, similar to the high-fineness gold haloes developed on detrital Au–Ag grains under supergene conditions. The Pd-depleted alteration zone truncates inclusions of crystals stoichiometrically close to PdPt within the Pt–Pd aggregate. Selective metal leaching in the weathering environment can account for the frequently observed Pt-enriched rims on alluvial platiniferous alloys which may lead to the formation of platinum nuggets at an advanced degree of weathering. Gold nuggets (centimetre scale) have formed in a supergene alteration zone on hydrothermal gold deposits, and occur intergrown with quartz and iron oxyhydroxide pseudomorphs after sulphide minerals, and along fractures in quartz and host rocks. The supergene alteration was driven by groundwater-driven water-rock interaction near to a regional unconformity beneath fluvial sediments, and involved clay alteration and oxidation that extended up to 50 m below the unconformity. Oxidation of pyrite and arsenopyrite produced temporary thiosulphate ligands that mobilised microparticulate gold encapsulated in the sulphide minerals. The nuggets have some crystalline form, and internally they consist of anhedral grains, elongated gold plates, and intimate intergrowths of gold and iron oxyhydroxide. Nugget surfaces have further micron scale overgrowths of microparticulate gold, gold plates, and gold crystals. Nuggets were eroded and recycled into nearby proximal Miocene quartz pebble conglomerates, where they concentrated in placers near the basal unconformity. Later recycling transferred gold into Pleistocene fluvial channels. Gold dissolution and redeposition as plates and crystals occurred on the exterior surfaces of placer gold particles, with little change in mass. All groundwater maintained high pH throughout the geological history because there was sufficient calcite in the basement rocks to neutralise any acid generated by pyrite oxidation. Hence, gold mobility in sediments was driven by thiosulphate complexes as for the in situ nuggets, albeit with lower dissolved sulphur concentrations. Despite aridification of the climate in the late Cenozoic, with resulting localised high dissolved chloride concentrations, chloride complexation did not contribute to gold mobility.  相似文献

Abstract

The Yilgarn Craton of Western Australia hosts a number of Cenozoic paleochannels, which have been incised into the underlying Paleozoic and Precambrian rocks, filled with sediments and subsequently weathered. The paleochannels are of particular interest in mineral exploration as they may not only host placer-type deposits but also overlie significant supergene and primary mineralisation. Paleochannels also pose particular challenges during exploration as they mask underlying geochemical anomalies, including gold and pathfinder elements. This study investigates a method of distinguishing transported overburden from residual regolith utilising a combination of field and laboratory-based techniques. At the Minotaur deposit, the residual regolith and transported overburden are mineralogically similar, although the presence of biotite, chlorite and muscovite is more characteristic of the residual regolith. Geochemically, Zr, Ti, Co and Sc ratios form distinct groupings allowing more confident discrimination of transported overburden from the underlying residual regolith units. The presence of a distinct gold depletion zone at the redox front was also identified to be a feature of the Minotaur deposit, with Au enrichment occurring above (within transported overburden) and below (within saprolite) the redox front, similar to other gold deposits on Lake Lefroy. The lithological, stratigraphic and Au-enrichment characteristics at Minotaur have also been compared with regional studies and suggest the long-lived impact of paleovalleys on the depositional systems and Au distribution of Lake Lefroy. This work provides a basis for future studies of the region in particular the variation of depositional sequences within regional paleochannel networks.  相似文献

The unmined Coles Hill U deposit of south central Virginia represents a natural setting where U is stabilized by phosphate mineral precipitation in an oxidizing bedrock aquifer. Drill cores from the shallow portion of the deposit preserve a sharp Fe redox front defined by Fe(III) oxide staining. This front is located near a discontinuity in U mineralogy with U(IV) assemblages (e.g. coffinite, uraninite) on the reducing side, and U(VI) assemblages on the oxidizing side. The discontinuity in U mineralogy does not, however, represent a major discontinuity in whole rock U concentrations, with sample groups from both oxidized and reduced sides of the front generally ranging from 500 to 1000 ppm. This observation suggests that the volume of shallow bedrock associated with the deposit has not lost significant amounts of U during the oxidation and incipient chemical weathering. The precipitation of Ba uranyl phosphate (Ba meta-autunite) is responsible for U retention within this zone. Ground waters sampled from the weathered bedrock aquifer associated with the deposit contain less than 15 μg l−1 dissolved U. This suggests that the low solubility of the Ba meta-autunite limits U concentrations to values lower than the US-EPA maximum contaminant level of 30 μg l−1. Ground water speciation and mineral saturation calculations show that, in addition to Eh and pH, the most important factor controlling this U fixation process is the activity ratio of dissolved phosphate to dissolved carbonate. Experimental results suggest that, at the Coles Hill site, the oxidation of U(IV) to U(VI) and subsequent precipitation of uranyl phosphate occurs rapidly (time scale of weeks) relative to ground water transport (e.g. 20 m/a). Furthermore, based on the rate of downward migration of the redox front, it is estimated that the oldest U(VI) phosphate assemblages associated with the Coles Hill U deposit have been stable for up to 150 ka. These observations have important implications for the design and long term performance assessment of phosphate-based stabilization and reactive barrier techniques.  相似文献

The thorium and rare-earth element (Th-REE) deposit at Morro do Ferro formed under supergene lateritic weathering conditions. The ore body consists of shallow NW-SE elongated argillaceous lenses that extend from the top of the hill downwards along its south-eastern slope. The deposit is capped by a network of magnetite layers which protected the underlying highly weathered, argillaceous host rock from excessive erosion. The surrounding country rocks comprise a sequence of subvolcanic phonolite intrusions that have been strongly altered by hydrothermal and supergene processes.From petrological, mineralogical and geochemical studies, and mass balance calculations, it is inferred that the highly weathered host rock was originally carbonatitic in composition, initially enriched in Th and REEs compared to the surrounding silicate rocks. The intrusion of the carbonatite caused fenitic alteration in the surrounding phonolites, consisting of early potassic alteration followed by a vein-type Th-REE mineralization with associated fluorite, carbonate, pyrite and zircon. Subsequent weathering has completely decomposed the carbonatite forming a residual supergene enrichment of Th and REEs.Initial weathering of the carbonatite has created a chemical environment that might have been conductive to carbonate and phosphate complexing of the REEs in groundwaters. This may have appreciably restricted the dissolution of primary REE phases. Strongly oxidic weathering has resulted in a fractionation between Ce and the other light rare earth elements (LREEs). Ce3+ is oxidized to Ce4+ and retained together with Th by secondary mineral formation (cerianite, thorianite), and by adsorption on poorly crystalline iron- and aluminium-hydroxides. In contrast, the trivalent LREEs are retained to a lesser degree and are thus more available for secondary mineral formation (Nd-lanthanite) and adsorption at greater depths down the weathering column. Seasonally controlled fluctuations of recharge waters into the weathering column may help to explain the observed repetition of Th-Ce enriched zones underlain by trivalent LREE enriched zones.  相似文献

红土型金矿床是原生金矿化遭受红土化作用改造所形成的一种表生金矿床,包括"红色粘土型"和"铁帽型"金矿床.中国红土型金矿以风化再造型为主,受气候影响而主要分布在南方,并与岩金成矿系列分布基本一致.风化壳常量元素、稀土元素、粘土矿物系统研究表明,成矿作用环境时空变化整体受风化强度控制,其风化作用早期呈中碱性、晚期呈酸性,风化壳下部偏碱性、还原,项部偏酸性、氧化的特点.典型矿床因子分析揭示,红土型金成矿作用可分为氧化和水解两个阶段.氧化阶段风化较弱,基岩释放大量碱性离子,使成矿流体保持中性,金溶解并主要以Au(S2O3)23-形式迁移;水解阶段风化较强,硅酸盐矿物发生脱碱去硅作用,随着大气降水不断参与,成矿流体性质由中碱性缓慢过渡到中-酸性条件,金以胶体或氯化物络合物形式迁移.金一般在风化壳下部富集,表生矿物吸附、氧化还原界面处被Fe2 、Mn2 还原以及不同性质流体混合都能促使金的沉淀.  相似文献

石笋是古气候重建的重要地质载体,文石与方解石是石笋碳酸钙晶体的常见矿物形态。根据现代洞穴监测数据分析洞穴新生碳酸钙沉积物 (Active Speleothem: AS)的矿物形态的研究较少。本文在重庆武隆芙蓉洞三个滴水点 (MP2、MP5、MP9)下放置玻璃片,收集新生碳酸钙沉积物和滴水样品,监测新生碳酸钙沉积物矿物形态、滴水的Mg/Ca比值、pH、滴率和洞穴环境等指标,分析玻璃片正面和反面新生碳酸钙沉积物的δ18O、δ13C和Mg/Ca比值。研究发现:(1) MP2滴水点下的玻璃片正反面新生碳酸钙沉积物的矿物形态均为方解石;MP5和MP9滴水点的正面沉积方解石和文石-方解石混合两种情况,反面沉积文石-方解石,且反面文石多于正面。 (2) MP2滴水Mg/Ca比值小于MP5和MP9,说明滴水Mg/Ca比值是影响新生碳酸钙沉积物矿物形态的重要因素;而滴水pH值对AS矿物形态的影响在不同滴水点有差异。(3) 不论是玻璃片正面还是反面,文石-方解石混合的新生碳酸钙沉积物δ18O和δ13C比以方解石为主的沉积物偏正,说明AS矿物形态的变化会导致δ18O和δ13C发生变化。通过在芙蓉洞的系统监测和分析,发现新生碳酸钙沉积物的矿物形态与地表环境、洞穴上部岩溶水文地质条件密切相关,并验证了洞穴新生碳酸钙沉积物的矿物形态对石笋δ18O和δ13C具有重要影响。   相似文献

In some glaciated regions, weathered mantles, formed under previous climatic regimes, were not always eroded bare by glacial activity, but instead lie buried beneath the glacial overburden. It is obviously important that geochemical exploration programs in such terrain should take into account some of the known regolith features seen in deeply weathered regions. The effects of glacial action upon deeply weathered terrain are considered in three conceptual models. The critical factor in each is the depth of truncation of the preglacial weathering profile. All three proposed models are dynamic systems and a wide range of intermediate situations must be expected.In Model 1 a complete, largely undisturbed, weathering profile is preserved beneath till. The key characteristic is preservation of a lateritic duricrust which may contain areally large (up to 200 km2) geochemical anomalies. It would be critical, firstly, that the duricrust be sufficiently continuous to allow a reasonable success rate in its being sampled, and secondly that the duricrust be recognizable in drill spoil. The most efficient geochemical exploration could be based upon wide-spaced overburden drilling directed at sampling the duricrust. For reconnaissance, holes could be based upon a 1-km grid where stratabound massive polymetallic sulphide or stratabound gold deposits are sought. Even wider spacing could be tried where larger-sized ore deposits are expected.Model 2 is characterized by a weathered profile that was partly stripped prior to glaciation. The essential feature is a vertically zoned weathering profile in the basement rock in which the upper levels of the weathering profile have undergone leaching of certain elements and lower levels contain enrichments of these elements. Any gossans present would show strong vertical zonation. Relatively strong sources for dispersion in till are likely to be enriched gossans where erosion has cut deep into the profile, zones of supergene enrichment of ore deposits, and supergene ore deposits themselves. In many situations, saprolite under glacial drift would be too soft to provide boulders so important in conventional till prospecting.The essential ingredient in hypothetical Model 3 involves progressive planing away of the weathering profile by glacial action. Thus any halo in duricrust is initially dispersed, followed by dispersion of progressively deeper levels of saprolite. If taken deep enough the supergene enriched zone of a mineral deposit could add to the glacial dispersion. A broadly zoned anomaly would be expected; a till anomaly would be characterized distally by elements from the former duricrust anomaly, with elements more characteristic of supergene zones closer to the source.  相似文献

Formation of noble metal nanoparticles is related to various geological processes in the supergene zone. Dispersed mineral phases appear during weathering of rocks with active participation of microorganisms, formation of soil, in aqueous medium and atmosphere. Invisible gold and other noble metals are incorporated into oxides, hydroxides, and sulfides, as well as in dispersed organic and inorganic carbonic matter. Sulfide minerals that occur in bedrocks and ores unaltered by exogenic processes and in cementation zone are among the main concentrators of noble metal nanoparticles. The ability of gold particles to disaggregate is well-known and creates problems in technological and analytical practice. When Au and PGE nanoparticles and clusters occur, these problems are augmented because of their unusual reactions and physicochemical properties. The studied gold, magnetite, titanomagnetite and pyrite microspherules from cementation zone and clay minerals of laterites in Republic of Guinea widen the knowledge of their abundance and inferred formation conditions, in particular, in the contemporary supergene zone. Morphology and composition of micrometer-sized Au mineral spherules were studied with SEM and laser microprobe. The newly formed segregations of secondary gold on the surface of its residual grains were also an object of investigation. The character of such overgrowths is the most indicative for nanoparticles. The newly formed Au particles provide evidence for redistribution of ultradispersed gold during weathering. There are serious prerequisites to state that microorganisms substantially control unusual nano-sized microspherical morphology of gold particles in the supergene zone. This is supported by experiments indicating active absorption of gold by microorganisms and direct evidence for participation of Ralstonia metallidurans bacteria in the formation of peculiar corroded bacteriomorphic surface of gold grains. In addition, the areas enriched in carbon and nitrogen have been detected with SEM on the surface of gold spherules from Guinea. Such organic compounds as serine, alanine, and glycine are identified on their surface with Raman spectroscopy. The experiments have been carried out and new data have been obtained indicating the role of micromycetes in concentration and distribution of noble metals in ferromanganese nodules of the World Ocean. Au and Pt were detected in the system with radioisotopes. It has been established that two forms of gold distribution develop within pseudomorphs of fungi colonies: (1) as pseudomorphic concentrates and (2) dispersed form unrelated to the colony structure. Inhomogeneities in distribution of dispersed platinum are manifested in the form of linear anomalies with elevated concentrations at the margins of the colonies.  相似文献
