Abstract

A real-life problem involving pumping of groundwater from a series of existing wells along a river flood plain underlain with geologically saline water is examined within a conceptual framework. Unplanned pumping results in upconing of saline water. Therefore, it is necessary to determine optimal locations of fixed capacity pumping wells in space and time from a set of pre-selected candidate wells that minimize total salinity concentration in space and time. The nonlinear, non-convex, combinatorial problem involving zero—one decision variables is solved in a simulation—optimization (S/O) framework. Optimization is accomplished by using simulated annealing (SA)—a search algorithm. The computational burden is primarily managed by replacing the numerical model with a surrogate simulator—artificial neural network (ANN). The computational burden is further reduced through intuitive algorithmic guidance. The model results suggest that the skimming wells must be operated from optimal locations such that they are staggered in space and time to obtain least saline water.  相似文献

Integrated River Basin Management(IRBM)has been a long discussed way to sustainably manage water and land resources;yet,very few examples of effective IRBM are found because there is a lack of sufficient scientific support,as well as institutional accommodation,to successfully implement it.This paper overviews the major challenges with IRBM,the promising scientific approaches for the implementation of IRBM,and the areas of needed research,with considerable issues and experiences from China.It is expected that novel research will draw together disparate disciplines into an integrated scientific framework,upon which better modeling tools,stakeholder involvement,and decision-making support can be built.Cutting-edge new technologies will bring ideas of IRBM forward to theory and finally to practice.The paper will prompt scientists to undertake research to fill in the gaps in the current IRBM knowledge base and provide practitioners guidance on how to incorporate scientifically based information within the IRBM decision process.  相似文献

Finite version of Random Domino Automaton — a recently proposed toy model of earthquakes — is investigated in detail. Respective set of equations describing stationary state of the FRDA is derived and compared with infinite case. It is shown that for a system of large size, these equations are coincident with RDA equations. We demonstrate a non-existence of exact equations for size N ≥ 5 and propose appropriate approximations, the quality of which is studied in examples obtained within the framework of Markov chains.We derive several exact formulas describing properties of the automaton, including time aspects. In particular, a way to achieve a quasi-periodic like behaviour of RDA is presented. Thus, based on the same microscopic rule — which produces exponential and inverse-power like distributions – we extend applicability of the model to quasi-periodic phenomena.  相似文献

Past river classifications use incommensurate typologies at each spatial scale and do not capture the pivotal role of topographic variability at each scale in driving the morphodynamics responsible for evolving hierarchically nested fluvial landforms. This study developed a new way to create geomorphic classifications using metrics diagnostic of individual processes the same way at every spatial scale and spanning a wide range of scales. We tested the approach on flow convergence routing, a geomorphically and ecologically important process with different morphodynamic states of erosion, routing, and deposition depending on the structure of nondimensional topographic variability. Five nondimensional landform types with unique functionality represent this process at any flow; they are nozzle, wide bar, normal channel, constricted pool, and oversized. These landforms are then nested within themselves by considering their longitudinal sequencing at key flows representing geomorphically important stages. A data analysis framework was developed to answer questions about the stage‐dependent spatial structure of topographic variability. Nesting permutations constrain and reveal how flow convergence routing morphodynamics functions in any river the framework is applied to. The methodology may also be used with other physical and biological datasets to evaluate the extent to which the patterning in that data is influenced by flow convergence routing. A unique multispectral imager and an associated multispectral analysis framework are described which together constitute a new diagnostic tool for auroral research. By acquiring spatial and spectral data simultaneously, multispectral imaging allows one to exploit physical connections between auroral morphology and the auroral optical spectrum in a way that sequential spectral imaging cannot. The initial research focus is on imaging the transition in the incident energy spectrum during the formation of discrete arcs—that is, when the precipitating population is characterized by <1 keV electrons. A technique is presented which uses two spectral bands (centered at 4278 and 7325 Å) to extend the effective dynamic range of passive imaging to much lower energies.  相似文献

Experimental control in the classical igneous petrology is based on determination of the equilibrium conditions of simple — mostly 1–4 component — system. The statements based on such experiments are valid for rock products chemically not influenced by active environments. For elucidation of processes between geochemically active volatile-rich country rocks, high pressure and high temperature experiments oncomplex systems containing such active rock samples, too were performed. High pressure bombs were constructed with long and narrow container, allowing to investigate the selective migration of elements between different rock samples, even by temperature slope within the container. In these bombs different igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks in contact at different temperatures and pressures were investigated. P-t relations and stability fields of different mineral facies cannot be exactly determined by phase diagrams of simple uni- or multicomponent systems, because they depend on other components and on the environments, too. The new complex experiments, however permit to assess directly the stability fields of the mineral facies. The data obtained proves that an intense selective migration of the volatiles take place even in solid samples at 550° C, in some rock associations already at 250° C, if there is a concentration gradient of volatiles between the samples. Selective migration proceeds following the principle of transvaporization, i.e. towards the partial pressures — chemical activities — of the mobile components and following the sequence of their ionic potentials. In this way, different hypomagmatic and metamorphic rocks are produced. The new kind of experiments shows that — opposite to the approaches of the classical igneous petrology — a high grade contamination of the ascending magma is possible. Contamination proceeds by transvaporization. Assimilation — Einschmelzung — mostly plays an insignificant role. Gravitative crystallization differentiation operates intensely only in the higher sections of volcanic pathways, characterized by relatively low pressures and thus by low viscosity of the magma. Contamination is intense if the ascension of magma is relatively slow as it is presumable along the oblique circumpacifique or innercarpathian andesitic structural lines. In this way, basaltic magma produces andesitic to rhyolitic rocks partly abundant in volatiles. However contamination is restricted and consequently basaltic rocks are formed if magma ascends rapidly through vertical channels as it is presumably the case with the young peripherical basalt volcanics, e.g. the innercarpathian basin system. These experiments also evidence the activation process of magma by transvaporization. Selective migration of volatiles even through solid rocks is introduced by structural pressure minimum zones towards these zones, which results in the melting of neighbouring rocks and their lifting as liquid magma until volatile supply is sufficient.  相似文献

Popper's demarcation criterion should be applied to all our theories in geophysics to ensure that our science progresses. We must expose our theories to tests in which they stand some risk of being refuted. But if we have a theory which has no rivals it may be difficult in practice to devise a test in which the theory risks being refuted conclusively. The example of the deconvolution problem for seismic data is considered for the case where the source wavelet is unknown. It is shown that all our existing theories of deconvolutions are not scientific in Popper's sense; they are statistical models. We cannot compare these models in a way that is independent of the geology, for each model requires the geology to have a different set of statistical properties. Even in our chosen geology it may be extremely difficult to determine the most applicable model and hence determine the “correct” deconvolution theory. It is more scientific to attempt to solve the deconvolution problem (a) by finding the source wavelet first, deterministically, or (b) by trying to force the wavelet to be a spike—that is, by devising a “perfect” seismic source. A new method of seismic surveying, which has been proposed to tackle the deconvolution problem by the first of these approaches, is based on a theory which is open to refutation by a simple Popperian test. Since the theory makes no assumptions about the geology, the test has equal validity in any geology. It pays to frame our theories in such a way that they may easily be put at risk. Only in this way will we establish whether we are on firm ground. The alternative is simply to take things on trust.  相似文献

真振幅成像是一种代表性的定量估计模型参数扰动高波数部分的地震波成像方法.经典的真振幅成像方法在高频近似和理想照明假设条件下求取显式对角Hessian逆矩阵作为偏移振幅加权算子,用以校正波传播过程中的几何扩散效应,得到模型参数扰动的带限估计.真振幅保真成像方法在利用逆时偏移(RTM)框架实现时会产生低波数噪声,影响对高波数参数估计的精度.本文给出了一种新的基于RTM框架的真振幅保真成像条件,该成像条件针对反射波数据,在高频近似下散射模式对应正问题及Bayes反问题框架下导出.与传统基于高频渐进反演的波动方程成像方法类似,利用本文提出RTM成像条件能够保证计算结果与高频近似下反演结果的一致性.同时,利用本文提出RTM真振幅成像条件能够在成像过程中自动保真的消除传统真振幅RTM算法中存在低波数噪声,模型数值实验结果验证了本文方法的正确性和有效性.  相似文献

利用1999—2007年、 2009—2015年和2015—2017年即2016年1月21日门源MS6.4地震前后的GPS水平运动资料, 以及震区周边200 km半径范围内跨断层流动短水准观测数据, 借助GPS视应变场计算、 冷龙岭断裂剖面的负位错反演, 以及跨断层形变强度新指标的提炼, 综合分析此次强震前相关断裂的中—长期闭锁背景以及断裂活动的中—短期动态演变过程。 结果显示: ① 2009—2015年相对1999—2007年, 祁连山构造区中东部GPS站点间差异运动和挤压变化增强; 跨断层短水准观测也显示震前2年左右时间内相似的断裂活动或形变应变加速特征。 ② 分层非均匀负位错反演揭示与地震相关的冷龙岭等断裂1999—2007年即震前十数年长期闭锁, 2009—2015年即震前6年半上—中层即地表以下0~15.6 km深度闭锁程度明显增大。 ③震区周边半径200 km内跨断层形变强度新指标显示出震前半年内逆断稍占优势的变幅加剧异常, 反映中短期前兆。  相似文献

Many watershed development projects around the world have performed poorly because they failed to take into account the needs, constraints, and practices of local people. Participatory watershed management—in which users help to define problems, set priorities, select technologies and policies, and monitor and evaluate impacts—is expected to improve performance. User participation in watershed management raises new questions for watershed research, including how to design appropriate mechanisms for organizing stakeholders and facilitating collective action. 针对PSInSAR技术监测大空间尺度地表垂直形变场的不足,提出通过基准转换与数据拼接、融合不同轨道多个独立片区(Frame)获取大空间尺度地表垂直形变场方法.由于不同轨道主影像选取的参考基准不一致、不同轨道垂直基线不同、不同片区相位解缠的参考PS不同等因素影响,使得PSInSAR获得的不同轨道地表垂直形变场的空间基准存在差异,提取的地表形变信息不具有可比性.利用两个相邻片区重叠区域的PS点集,根据迭代最近点算法提取两片区公共区域内同名点,并兼顾同名点距离的权,精确计算两片区的配准参数,实现两片区的"无缝"连接,最后使各独立片区拼接成一个连续的大空间尺度地表垂直形变场.本文推导了多轨PSInSAR技术获得的不同片区形变场基准转换与数据拼接的数学模型,并以华北平原(115.32°E—118.79°E, 36.81°N—40.58°N)为实验区,解析了3个不同轨道共12个片区PS目标,获取了研究区2006—2010年地表垂直形变速度场.分析表明:(1)研究区大范围处于下沉状态,形成以北京、廊坊、天津、沧州、泊头—德州等城市为中心向外扩展的地表沉降发展态势,几个沉降中心的平均沉降速率分别达到-34.7 mm/a、-26.3 mm/a、-64.2 mm/a、-34.6 mm/a和-37.7 mm/a;(2)地表沉降的空间分布特征表明,城市工业生产和生活抽取地下水是地表沉降的主要诱因,农业灌溉和油气开采是导致华北平原大范围地表沉降的另一个重要因素;(3)研究区最大沉降带沿北北东向展布,与区内断裂分布一致,表明沉降的空间分布受到断裂带控制;(4)利用地表同期一等水准测量成果检验了本研究结果,精度达到4.72 mm,表明本文提出的数据处理策略能够满足大时空尺度地表形变监测的需求.  相似文献

Most interpretation work is still based on stacked and not on migrated sections. In the case of heavy faulting and considerable velocity contrasts between formations, migration of interpreted interfaces poses a problem. In more detail, the problem may be specified as follows: — a given interpretation of a number of interfaces along with a given heterogeneous velocity field may not always have a plausible solution in the form of migrated interfaces in depth; — fault planes, salt boundaries, etc., are, in most cases, not directly interpretable in a section and are plotted by intuition using interface terminations as a guide; — the velocity field in fault zones is, in most cases, hard to determine. The interpreter may arrive at a plausible solution by repeating the migration process with various possible interpretations and various velocity assumptions. The subject of this paper is an algorithm based on ray-theory which allows one: — to handle faults and velocity variations at faults properly; — to perform migration in steps, working a particular geological unit at a time and proceeding to the next unit once the foregoing one has been properly migrated; — to display ray-paths, where necessary, for investigation of interface distortions, e.g., below fault areas. The algorithm is designed and implemented for application in an interactive environment. Inspection of intermediate and final results, investigation of interface distortions and modifications are performed on a graphics screen. Thus, various possible interpretations and velocity assumptions may be investigated within a short time. Interfaces interpreted on migrated sections may be over-migrated because of neglection of the influence of refraction in most section migration programs. This over-migration may also be corrected using the above algorithm in the “image ray” mode.  相似文献

针对台站形变观测中经常出现的仪器故障,提出了一种基于移动式企业微信报警的新方法。对传统的依托于台站工作人员登录Web网站、查看仪器工作状态的方式进行了改进,并提供了一种可实现、可操作的设计思路和具体实现过程。该设计框架不但解决了行业内外网切割导致数据采集和报警信息无法发送的问题,还解决了长期以来台站仪器经常性网络不通、断电、死机、超量程等突发情况所导致的形变观测数据缺失和错误无法及时报警的问题。通过Python语言编程,采集实时测量数据,通过逻辑运算后将结果推送到指定的企业微信,实现仪器故障报警,以达到降低数据损失的目的。  相似文献

The present paper describes an approach to modelling the unsaturated soil-moisture zone in the framework of an integrated physically-based hydrologic response model. It is supposed that the subsurface flow regime may be viewed as two separate entities — a saturated flow system which may be modelled by standard two-dimensional regional techniques, and a single overlying unsaturated zone in which the flow is essentially vertical. Coupling takes place via the definition of saturation at the lower boundary of the unsaturated zone, and via a conservative water balance. Attention is focused on the computational procedure for the unsaturated zone as a self-contained module. The major difficulties are the definition of the interface between the saturated and unsaturated zones, the nonlinear character of the equation used to describe unsaturated flow, the inclusion of realistic atmospheric boundary conditions, and, the interaction between water uptake by plants and available soil-moisture. Each of these points is discussed, in turn, with the emphasis on mathematically formulating the problem in such a way that the most important physical features are reproduced with a minimal amount of computational effort. How much data is needed for calibration of a hydrological catchment model? In this paper we address this question by evaluating the information contained in different subsets of discharge and groundwater time series for multi‐objective calibration of a conceptual hydrological model within the framework of an uncertainty analysis. The study site was a 5·6‐km2 catchment within the Forsmark research site in central Sweden along the Baltic coast. Daily time series data were available for discharge and several groundwater wells within the catchment for a continuous 1065‐day period. The hydrological model was a site‐specific modification of the conceptual HBV model. The uncertainty analyses were based on a selective Monte Carlo procedure. Thirteen subsets of the complete time series data were investigated with the idea that these represent realistic intermittent sampling strategies. Data subsets included split‐samples and various combinations of weekly, monthly, and quarterly fixed interval subsets, as well as a 53‐day ‘informed observer’ subset that utilized once per month samples except during March and April—the months containing large and often dominant snow melt events—when sampling was once per week. Several of these subsets, including that of the informed observer, provided very similar constraints on model calibration and parameter identification as the full data record, in terms of credibility bands on simulated time series, posterior parameter distributions, and performance indices calculated to the full dataset. —Large, extended fault systems such as those in California demonstrate complex space-time seismicity patterns, which include repetitive events, precursory activity and quiescence, and aftershock sequences. Although the characteristics of these patterns can be qualitatively described, a systematic quantitative analysis remains elusive. Our research suggests that a new pattern dynamics methodology can be used to define a unique, finite set of seismicity patterns for a given fault system. In addition, while a long-sought goal of earthquake research has been the reliable forecasting of these events, very little progress has been made in developing a successful, consistent methodology. In this report, we document the discovery of systematic space-time variations in seismicity from southern California using a new technique. Here we present examples of this analysis technique on data obtained prior to events in seismically active areas that show coherent regions associated with the future occurrence of major earthquakes in the same areas. These results strongly support the hypothesis that seismic activity is highly correlated across many space and time scales within large volumes of the earth's crust.  相似文献

人类世可能成为一个全新的地质时期,以描述人类活动对地球环境造成极为深远的影响,目前已被广泛讨论。湖泊及流域生态系统作为与人类社会最密切的地球单元之一,受到人类活动显著影响,相关研究成果能为理解人类世做出贡献。本文从湖泊流域生态系统和人类世本身特征为切入点,讨论了湖泊及流域生态系统演化对人类世研究的重要意义。我们认为,湖泊具有相对独立的整体,清晰的内部作用关系、完备的理论支持和时空数据支撑,能够为人类世地球各圈层交互作用提供研究框架。湖泊流域生态系统演化的稳态转换与地球环境进入新的地质时期具有诸多相似之处,相关研究成果能够更好地界定人类世开始时间、总体特征以及演变过程和机制。本文指出人类世湖泊及流域生态系统演化研究依然面临诸多挑战,并提出了对未来相关研究的展望。  相似文献

Abstract

Modelling of the rainfall–runoff transformation process and routing of river flows in the Kilombero River basin and its five sub-catchments within the Rufiji River basin in Tanzania was undertaken using three system (black-box) models—a simple linear model, a linear perturbation model and a linear varying gain factor model—in their linear transfer function forms. A lumped conceptual model—the soil moisture accounting and routing model—was also applied to the sub-catchments and the basin. The HEC-HMS model, which is a distributed model, was applied only to the entire Kilombero River basin. River discharge, rainfall and potential evaporation data were used as inputs to the appropriate models and it was observed that sometimes the system models performed better than complex hydrological models, especially in large catchments, illustrating the usefulness of using simple black-box models in datascarce situations.  相似文献

Diagnosing the source of errors in snow models requires intensive observations, a flexible model framework to test competing hypotheses, and a methodology to systematically test the dominant snow processes. We present a novel process‐based approach to diagnose model errors through an example that focuses on snow accumulation processes (precipitation partitioning, new snow density, and snow compaction). Twelve years of meteorological and snow board measurements were used to identify the main source of model error on each snow accumulation day. Results show that modeled values of new snow density were outside observational uncertainties in 52% of days available for evaluation, while precipitation partitioning and compaction were in error 45% and 16% of the time, respectively. Precipitation partitioning errors mattered more for total winter accumulation during the anomalously warm winter of 2014–2015, when a higher fraction of precipitation fell within the temperature range where partition methods had the largest error. These results demonstrate how isolating individual model processes can identify the primary source(s) of model error, which helps prioritize future research.  相似文献

Connectivity has emerged in recent years as a significant conceptual framework within which to address the spatial and temporal variability in runoff and sediment transport. This special issue draws together several of the papers that were presented in the session “Connectivity in water and sediment dynamics: how do we move forwards?” at the 2012 General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union in Vienna, Austria. The papers submitted for this special issue fall into three groups: empirical studies, modelling studies, and conceptual development. Although it may be evident that the concept of connectivity helps us to express the complexity (in terms of water and sediment yields) of landscape responses to rainfall inputs, does it improve our ability to understand or predict those responses? There would still seem to be some way to go in connectivity research before this nagging concern can be assuaged.
