A calibration equation and some results of the field performance of an infrared instrument, which is designed to measure simultaneous fluctuations of atmospheric carbon dioxide and water vapor, are described. Field observations show that the instrument is suitable for simultaneous measurement of turbulent fluxes of carbon dioxide and water vapor in conjunction with a sonic anemometer. Measured values of carbon dioxide and water vapor fluxes show diurnal variations characterized by crop activity with respect to assimilation, respiration and evapotranspiration. Carbon dioxide is transferred downward during the daytime and upward at night, while latent heat and sensible heat are transferred in the opposite sense. The non-dimensional gradient of carbon dioxide is expressed in the following form under weak unstable conditions: c = (1 – 16 v )-1/2. Here, v is the Monin-Obukhov stability parameter including the humidity effect. This relation was originally proposed for temperature and humidity. Thus, the results indicate that the turbulent mechanisms of carbon dioxide fluctuations are similar to those of other scalar entities. This is strongly supported by the high correlation coefficient found between fluctuations of carbon dioxide and temperature or humidity in the air layer over crop fields.  相似文献

根据西太平洋海域弱风、高温、潮湿的大气状态特征,提出了在光滑面存在粘性副层气流中的廓线的层结订正方案。用此模式对西太平洋暖池区TOGACOAREIOP期间,在向阳红5号船(2°S,154°E)获取的海面风、温、湿梯度资料进行了处理。计算结果显示西太平洋暖池区贴水层气流中不稳定层结占50%-80%,其中很不稳定的占10.3%;该海区海气通量和整体交换系数受层结影响远大于受风速的影响;海气通量和整体交换系数随不稳定程度增加而增大,在相同风速下量值可相差4倍以上;其变化范围为0.3×10-3—3.2×10-3。由此可见,层结的影响使它们的变化大于其它海区的结果。在u10=0-10m/s范围内,中性化整体交换系数平均为CDN=1.2×10-3,CHN=1.14×10-3,CEN=1.19×10-3,与Large和Pond(1981,1982)不稳定条件的研究结果相差无几。  相似文献

Stably stratified flow in a marine atmospheric surface layer   总被引:3,自引:1,他引:2  
Data from the marine atmospheric surface layer have been analysed. The data set consists of about two weeks with tower measurements up to 31 m of mean profiles of wind, temperature, and humidity, together with 20 Hz turbulence data. Mean wind, temperature, and humidity profiles up to 2000 m are also available from pibal trackings and radio soundings. Wave height was measured at 2 Hz, using an inverted echo-sounder.It was found from pibal wind profiles that low level jets were present during 2/3 of the measurements, having their maxima in the height interval 40 to 300 m. Here only data from the remaining 1/3 of the measurements, without low level jets, have been analysed.Non-dimensional wind and temperature gradients agree with results over homogeneous land surfaces as regards stability dependence during stable conditions that prevailed during this experiment. Linear regression gave m = 1 + 6.8z/L and m = 1 + 8.3z/L. No significant sea wave influence was found. The same was vrue for me dimensionless standard deviations of the three wind components, except for the vertical component. The expected wind speed dependence was found for the neutral drag coefficient, givingC dN = 0.109U + 0.33 at 10 m, and a dependence on the wave parameter,C/u *, was confirmed. Note, however, that the data set was restricted to low and moderate wind speeds and that stratification was mainly stable.Power spectra, non-dimensionalized according to suface-layer theories, do not follow the expected stability dependence. It was shown that this may be a consequence of the presence of gravity waves in the stable marine boundary layer. Indicators of gravity waves were found in most runs. The TKE budget agrees with findings over homogeneous land areas. The pressure transport term was found to be a source of energy also for near neutral conditions.  相似文献

Summary In this paper, we evaluate the applicability of flux-gradient relationships for momentum and heat for urban boundary layers within the Monin-Obukhov similarity (MOS) theory framework. Although the theory is widely used for smooth wall boundary layers, it is not known how well the theory works for urban layers. To address this problem, we measured the vertical profiles of wind velocity, air temperature, and fluxes of heat and momentum over a residential area and compared the results to theory. The measurements were done above an urban canopy whose mean height zh is 7.3 m. 3-D sonic anemometers and fine wire thermocouples were installed at 4 heights in the region 1.5zh < z < 4zh. We found the following: (1) The non-dimensional horizontal wind speed has good agreement with the stratified logarithmic profile predicted using the semi-empirical Monin-Obukov similarity (MOS) function, when it was scaled by the surface friction velocity that is derived from the shear stress extrapolated to the roof-top level. (2) The scaled gradient of horizontal wind speed followed a conventional semi-empirical function for a flat surface at a level (z/zh = 2.9), whereas, in the vicinity of the canopy height was larger than the commonly-used empirical relationship. (3) The potential temperature profile above the canopy shows dependency on the atmospheric stability and the scaled gradient of temperature is in good agreement with a conventional shear function for heat. In the case of heat, the dependency on height was not found. (4) The flux-gradient relationship for momentum and heat in the region 1.5zh < z < 4zh was rather similar to that for flat surfaces than that for vegetated canopies.  相似文献

Atmospheric measurements from several field experiments have been combined to develop a better understanding of the turbulence structure of the stable atmospheric boundary layer. Fast response wind velocity and temperature data have been recorded using 3-dimensional sonic anemometers, placed at severalheights (1 m to 4.3 m) above the ground. The measurements wereused to calculate the standard deviations of the three components of the windvelocity, temperature, turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) dissipation andtemperature variance dissipation. These data were normalized and plottedaccording to Monin–Obukhov similarity theory. The non-dimensional turbulencestatistics have been computed, in part, to investigate the generalapplicability of the concept of z-less stratification for stable conditions. From the analysis of a data set covering almost five orders ofmagnitude in the stability parameter = z/L (from near-neutral tovery stable atmospheric stability), it was found that this concept does nothold in general. It was only for the non-dimensional standard deviation oftemperature and the average dissipation rate of turbulent kinetic energythat z-less behaviour has been found. The other variables studied here(non-dimensional standard deviations of u, v, and w velocity components and dissipation of temperature variance) did not follow the concept of z-less stratification for the very stable atmospheric boundary layer. An imbalance between production and dissipation of TKE was found for the near-neutral limit approached from the stable regime, which matches with previous results for near-neutral stability approached from the unstable regime.  相似文献

A set of micro-meteorological data collected over a horizontal, uniform terrain (the plain of La Crau, France) in June 1987 is analysed. Conditions were predominantly sunny and arid, while due to the Mistral the wind speed could exceed 10 m/s. Verification of several methods to evaluate surface fluxes of heat, momentum and water vapour from the standard deviation of temperature, wind and specific humidity is presented. Also, a similar approach using the structure parameter of temperature is considered. These methods are all based on Monin-Obukhov (M-O) similarity theory. It is found that the standard deviation of temperature, vertical and horizontal wind speed as well as the structure parameter for temperature behave according to M-O similarity. It is shown that the sensible heat flux and friction velocity can be determined from a fast response thermometer and a cup anemometer. Also, it appears that the analytic solution of the set of governing equations as derived by the first author yields good results. M-O theory does not appear to work for the standard deviation of specific humidity. This may be due to the relative importance of large eddies.  相似文献

Mean spectra of vertical wind velocity, temperature, and humidity and co-spectra of vertical turbulent heat and moisture fluxes are reported, normalized in terms of the similarity theory of Monin-Obukhov. The measurements were made in April 1967 at light-house Alte Weser at a height of 30 m above the German Bight. Ten spectra measured under conditions of moderate instability (z/L –0.08) have been used for the evaluation of a mean spectral curve. The humidity fluctuations have been determined from simultaneous turbulence measurements of temperature and radiorefractive-index, which were obtained by a microwave refractometer.Similar to the BOMEX measurements discussed by Phelps and Pond (1971) our results also show a dissimilarity between the fluctuations of temperature and humidity. Accordingly, in the range of lower and higher natural frequencies, significant differences were present between the co-spectra of the vertical heat and moisture fluxes, although the mean peak frequencies of both the fluxes nearly correspond to that of the mean vertical wind-velocity spectrum (f m 0.35).  相似文献

Turbulent fluctuations in CO2 concentrations over a paddy field are measured by a fastresponse device with an open sensing path. This IR device coupled with a sonic anemometer constitutes an eddy correlation instrument to measure CO2 fluxes. Three experiments were conducted in the surface layer over paddy 90 cm high. The stability (z – d)/L ranged from -0.14 to 0.20, where L denotes the Monin-Obukhov length.CO2 power spectra show the range of applicability of the -2/3 power law to be between f = 0.2 and f = 2, where f is the frequency normalized by wind speed and height. The cospectral estimate between CO2 and vertical component of wind speed ranging from f = 0.005 to f = 2 shows a peak at about f = 0.15 under near-neutral stratification.Hourly means of CO2 flux measured by the eddy correlation method increase with intensity of net radiation. The maximum value of downward flux of CO2 rises to 0.6 mg cm-2 hr-1 over the paddy field at the stage of ear emergence.Some turbulence statistics relating to the CO2 transport are evaluated: the correlation coefficient between CO2 and vertical velocity is about -0.3, and that between CO2 and humidity attains -0.7 ~ -0.8 under unstable stratification; nondimensional gradients c for CO2 and m for wind speed are 0.89 and 0.99, respectively.  相似文献

Turbulence and mean flow variables under unstable conditions are examined with special emphasis on the consequences of roughness and surface elevation change. An interpolation formula for w 2, between neutral and free convection, is shown to bring order to the data. The spectral distribution of vertical wind variance is found to be in good agreement with results over horizontal homogeneous terrain, both with respect to form and position. In particular, the length scale m corresponding to the maximum of nS w(n) is unchanged. Another turbulent length scale, (k/)z, is found to be substantially reduced in the disturbed zone of the internal boundary layer. To a first approximation, the flow-acceleration effect on the non-dimensional wind shear can be separated from the diabatic effect.  相似文献

A field campaign was conducted to collect high quality vertical wind speed and temperature profiles with simultaneous turbulent momentum and sensible heat fluxes over the flat Gobi surface located at 39°09′N, 100°06′E at an elevation of 1,458 m during the Pilot Intensive Observation Period in 1990. Careful evaluation of the observations in near-neutral conditions supports a value of the von Karman constant close to 0.39, which is in good agreement with the results obtained from many other field experiments conducted in low elevation regions. In near-neutral stratification the turbulent Prandtl number is found to be 1 but with lower confidence due to scarcity and scatter of the data points. For an expanded stability range, exponents of −1/4 and −1/2 are respectively best fitted to the functional relations for the non-dimensional wind and temperature profile functions in unstable stratification but linear relations still hold for stable stratification in this high elevation region.  相似文献

Currents and atmospheric parameters were measured in the East China Sea in February, 1975, as part of the AMTEX'75 program. These data were used to describe outbreaks of cold continental air over this warm and shallow sea. Particular emphasis was placed on describing the structure of mesoscale atmospheric cells embedded in the outbreaks and the effects of these cells on the water column.Two cold air outbreaks were recorded. Heat fluxes (latent plus sensible) as high as 1270 cal/cm2 day were calculated. Evidence of mesoscale atmospheric cells was found during outbreaks in satellite imagery and in solarimeter data. The development of mesoscale cells was described by correlating fluctuations in the air temperature and absolute humidity records. The cells were found to be best developed when satellite imagery showed that they were of the closed variety. The data suggest that cellular activity matures from open to closed cell types.During the period of greatest development, a representative closed cell was 24–30 km in diameter, moved at 8 m s-1 over the spar buoy, had a temperature fluctuation of 0.4 °C, an absolute humidity fluctuation of 0.4 g kg-1, and wind speed and heat flux fluctuations of - 12.5%.A non-dimensional index, formed from the fluctuations of the air temperature and absolute humidity records, was used to indicate the passage of mesoscale atmospheric cells over the measuring site. Using this index as input and the fluctuations in the oceanic parameters at a depth of 20 m as output, it was found that the passage of mature cells was significantly correlated with temperature fluctuations and current fluctuations aligned 25 ° to the right of the wind about 45 min later.  相似文献

A numerical technique based on the least-square error method for evaluating fluxes and other surface-layer parameters is proposed. The special feature of this method is that it does not require a prior knowledge of the temperature profile. It can, in fact, be used to predict the temperature profile. The only other input parameter is the value of the roughness length z 0 which has to be specified beforehand.This method has been tested on both the Kansas and the Wangara experimental data. Good agreement on fluxes and the Monin-Obukhov length compared with those obtained from direct measurements is obtained.  相似文献

An extensive set of turbulence data from the 3- and 12-m heights taken over an agricultural site (Marsta, Sweden) are analyzed and compared with data from ideal sites.In unstable air, Monin-Obukhov similarity is found to be valid for the non-dimensional gradients of wind, m , temperature, h , and humidity, e , for (only a few data), for T /|T *|,/ E /|E *| and for the non-dimensionalized inertial subrange spectra of temperature and humidity. Where comparison is possible, the unstable data also agree with those found in the Kansas study, with one remarkable exception, the inertial subrange constant of the temperature spectrum, 1, being only 0.39, compared to the value 0.80 found at the Kansas site.On the stable side, most similarity predictions break down, with most of the data differing systematically from the corresponding Kansas results, the only exception being . The inertial subrange constants for temperature, 1, and for humidity, 1 are found to have the same values, 0.39 and 0.30, respectively, as they do on the unstable side. Remarkable similarity is found for the shape of the stable u- and - and e-spectra. In addition, this shape is found to be identical with that found in Kansas. The peak wavelength of the stable u-, and -spectra is found to be about four times larger than it is for the corresponding Kansas spectra. This is interpreted to be a result of the increased macro-roughness at the Marsta site as compared with that at the Kansas site. A possible explanation for the low 1-value is discussed, suggesting that 1 is not a universal constant, but instead dependent on the turbulent structure.  相似文献

Observations obtained mainly from a research aircraft are presented of the mean and turbulent structure of the stably stratified internal boundary layer (IBL) over the sea formed by warm air advection from land to sea. The potential temperature and humidity fields reveal the vertical extent of the IBL, for fetches out to several hundred of kilometres, geostrophic winds of 20–25 m s–1, and potential temperature differences between undisturbed continental air and the sea surface of 7 to 17 K. The dependence of IBL depth on these external parameters is discussed in the context of the numerical results of Garratt (1987), and some discrepancies are noted.Wind observations show the development of a low-level wind maximum (wind component normal to the coast) and rotation of the wind to smaller cross-isobar flow angles. Potential temperature () profiles within the IBL reveal quite a different structure to that found in the nocturnal boundary layer (NBL) over land. Over the sea, profiles have large positive curvature with vertical gradients increasing monotonically with height; this reflects the dominance of turbulent cooling within the layer. The behaviour is consistent with known behaviour in the NBL over land where curvature becomes negative (vertical gradients of decreasing with height) as radiative cooling becomes dominant.Turbulent properties are discussed in terms of non-dimensional quantities, normalised by the surface friction velocity, as functions of normalised height using the IBL depth. Vertical profiles of these and the normalised wavelength of the spectral maximum agree well with known results for the stable boundary layer over land (Caughey et al., 1979).  相似文献

Results from large-eddy simulations and field measurements have previously shown that the velocity field is influenced by the boundary layer height, z i , during close to neutral, slightly unstable, atmospheric stratification. During such conditions the non-dimensional wind profile, φ m , has been found to be a function of both z/L and z i /L. At constant z/L, φ m decreases with decreasing boundary layer height. Since φ m is directly related to the parameterizations of the air–sea surface fluxes, these results will have an influence when calculating the surface fluxes in weather and climate models. The global impact of this was estimated using re-analysis data from 1979 to 2001 and bulk parameterizations. The results show that the sum of the global latent and sensible mean heat fluxes increase by 0.77 W m−2 or about 1% and the mean surface stress increase by 1.4 mN m−2 or 1.8% when including the effects of the boundary layer height in the parameterizations. However, some regions show a larger response. The greatest impact is found over the tropical oceans between 30°S and 30°N. In this region the boundary layer height influences the non-dimensional wind profile during extended periods of time. In the mid Indian Ocean this results in an increase of the mean annual heat fluxes by 2.0 W m−2 and an increase of the mean annual surface stress by 2.6 mN m−2.  相似文献

The estimation of the surface-layer parameters u * (friction velocity), * and q * (temperature and humidity scales), r and q r (temperature and humidity reference values), z o (roughness length) and d (zero-displacement) from vertical profiles of wind velocity, temperature and humidity by least-squares methods is described. The estimation is based on the flux-gradient relationships and the constant flux assumption for the transfer of momentum, sensible heat and matter near the Earth's surface.Test calculations were carried out with the vertical profile data from the GREIV I 1974 experiment and the Great Plains Turbulence Project.  相似文献

Potential temperature, specific humidity and wind profiles measured by radiosondes under unstable but windy conditions during FIFE in northeastern Kansas were analyzed within the framework of Monin-Obukhov similarity. Around 86% of these profiles were found to have a height range over which the similarity, formulated in terms of the Businger-Dyer functions, is valid and for which the resulting surface fluxes are in good agreement with independent measurements at ground stations. When scaled with the surface roughness z 0 = 1.05 m and the displacement height d 0 = 26.9 m, for the potential temperature this height range was 45 (±31) (z – d 0 )/z 0 104 (±54) and the comparison of the profile-derived surface fluxes with the independent measurements gave a correlation coefficient of r = 0.96. For the specific humidity these values are 42 (±29) (z – d 0 )/z 0 96 (±38) and r = 0.94. In terms of the height of the bottom of the inversion H i , in the morning hours the upper limit of (z – d 0 ) in the Monin-Obukhov layer is approximately 0.3H i , whereas for a fully developed ABL it is closer to 0.1H i . Probably, as a result of the short sampling times and perhaps also of the small gradients under the windy conditions, the exact height range of validity was difficult to establish from a mere inspection of these profiles.  相似文献

Turbulence and heat fluxes in the marine atmospheric boundary layer (MABL) for the roll vortex regime, observed during the Genesis of Atlantic Lows Experiment (GALE) over the western Gulf Stream, have been studied. The spectral analysis suggests that cloud streets (roll vortices) are vertically organized convection in the MABL having the same roll scale for both the cloud layer and subcloud layer, and that the roll spacing is about three times the MABL depth. The roll circulations contribute significantly to the sensible (temperature) and latent heat (moisture) fluxes with importance increasing upward. Near the MABL top, these fluxes are primarily due to roll vortices which transfer both sensible heat and moisture upward in the lower half of the convective MABL. Near the MABL top, the roll circulations transfer sensible heat downward and moisture upward in the clear thermal-street region, but roll vortices influenced by evaporative cooling can transfer sensible heat upward and moisture downward in the cloud-street region. Near the cloud-top, the upward buoyancy flux due to evaporative cooling is highly related to the roll circulations near the inversion.For the lower half of the MABL, the normalized temperature flux decreases upward more rapidly than the humidity flux, which is mainly because potential temperature () increases slightly upward while humidity (q) decreases slightly upward above the unstable surface layer. The gradient production (associated with the gradient) is a source for the temperature flux in the unstable surface layer but changes to a sink in the mixed layer, while the gradient production (associated with the q gradient) acts as a source for the humidity flux in both the unstable surface and mixed layers. The results suggest that the entrainment at the MABL top might affect the budgets of temperature and humidity fluxes in the lower MABL, but not in the unstable surface layer.Caelum Research Corporation, Silver Spring, MD, 20901, U.S.A.  相似文献

Results from numerical investigations regarding the exchange of HNO3, NH3, and NH4NO3 between the atmosphere and the biosphere are presented. The investigations were performed with a modified inferential method which is based on the generally accepted micrometeorological ideas of the transfer of momentum, sensible heat and matter near the Earth's surface and the chemical reactions among these nitrogen compounds. This modified inferential method calculates the micrometeorological quantities (such as the friction velocity and the fluxes of sensible and latent heat), the height-invariant fluxes of the composed chemically conservative trace species with group concentrationsc 1=[HNO3]+[NH4NO3] (total nitrate),c 2=[NH3]+[NH4NO3] (total ammonia), andc 3=[HNO3]-[NH3] as well as the fluxes of the individual nitrogen compounds. The parameterization of the fluxes is based on the flux-gradient relationships in the turbulent region of the atmospheric surface layer. The modified inferential method requires only the data of wind velocity, temperature, humidity and concentrations (HNO3, NH3, and NH4NO3) measured at a reference height by stations of a monitoring network.  相似文献
