The works on geodetic monitoring of the contemporary crustal motions (CCMs) in the region of the Kamchatka Peninsula and Komandor Islands for the 40-year history of instrumental observations are reviewed. The examples of CCM recording by the classical geodetic methods and, since 1996, by the Global Positioning System (GPS) are presented. The deployment of the regional network for GNSS observations by the Kamchatka Branch of the Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences (KAMNET) made it possible to study the geodynamical processes at the junction of three major plates (Eurasian, North American, and Pacific) and smaller plates (Okhotsk and Bering). The interpretation of the examples of recorded CCMs is presented. The prospects of further development in the field of studying the geodynamics of the Koryak-Kamchatka region are outlined.  相似文献

It is expected that episodic tremors and slips (ETS) as a type of slow earthquakes with periodic property will be detected using harmonic estimation techniques. The principal goal of this paper is the detection of these kinds of earthquakes using least squares harmonic estimation (LSHE). To accomplish this, the raw time series of 38 permanent GPS stations of the Pacific Northwest Geodetic Array have been analyzed. Previously, some independent techniques could confirm the occurrences of the aforementioned quakes at these stations. However, the current research intends to evaluate the spectrum of each of the de-trended time series using the LS-HE method. In each station, the period of the detected harmonic with the maximum power spectrum is equivalent to the average period previously reported for these events. According to the obtained results, the recurrence interval of these events ranges from 9 months to 3 years. In sum, the study confirms this method being efficient for investigating the occurrences of ETSs when the length of the GPS time series is sufficiently large.  相似文献

The present study utilises different satellite and ground-based geodetic observations in order to assess the current evolution of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GIS). Satellite gravimetry data acquired by the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment are used to derive ice-mass changes for the period from 2003 to 2012. The inferred time series are investigated regarding long-term, seasonal and interannual variations. Laser altimetry data acquired by the Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) are utilised to solve for linear and seasonal changes in the ice-surface height and to infer independent mass-change estimates for the entire GIS and its major drainage basins. We demonstrate that common signals can be identified in the results of both sensors. Moreover, the analysis of a Global Positioning System (GPS) campaign network in West Greenland for the period 1995–2007 allows us to derive crustal deformation caused by glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) and by present-day ice-mass changes. ICESat-derived elastic crustal deformations are evaluated comparing them with GPS-observed uplift rates which were corrected for the GIA effect inferred by model predictions. Existing differences can be related to the limited resolution of ICESat. Such differences are mostly evident in dynamical regions such as the Disko Bay region including the rapidly changing Jakobshavn Isbræ, which is investigated in more detail. Glacier flow velocities are inferred from satellite imagery yielding an accelerated flow from 1999 to 2012. Since our GPS observations cover a period of more than a decade, changes in the vertical uplift rates can also be investigated. It turns out that the increased mass loss of the glacier is also reflected by an accelerated vertical uplift.  相似文献

通过对拉萨、日喀则地区两条基线的观测结果分析,得到了拉萨地块近南北向地壳形变率为(7.0±2.3)mm/a及近东西向(7.4±2.3)mm/a的形变速率,与震源机制解的结论十分接近。同时监测到相对于拉萨南北向7.3cm和东西向4.1cm的震后形变位移,显示出GPS在地震监测及与地震相关的地壳形变研究的广阔前景  相似文献

Space geodetic techniques (e.g., Global Positioning System, GPS and very long baseline interference, VLBI) have been widely used to determine the precipitable water vapor (PWV) for meteorology and climatology, which was verified by comparing with co-located independent technique observations. However, most of these comparisons have been conducted using only short-time spanning observations at several stations. The goal of this study is to identify and quantify the systematic errors between VLBI and GPS PWV estimates using a 5-year (2002–2007), PWV data set constructed from co-located measurements and radiosonde data as well. It has found systematic errors between VLBI and GPS PWV estimations from comparisons with long-term co-located GPS measurements. The total mean VLBI PWVs are systematically smaller than GPS estimates with 0.8–2.2 mm for all sites, but can be as much as 15–30%. The subdiurnal PWV variation magnitudes and long-term trends between VLBI and GPS are nearly similar, but the VLBI-derived PWV trends are systematically smaller than GPS estimates with about 0.1±0.02 mm/year. These systematic errors in PWV estimates between VLBI and GPS are probably due to technique own problems, different used elevation angles and co-location separation.  相似文献

鄂拉山断裂是位于青藏高原东北缘的一条右旋走滑断裂,前人通过野外地质考察厘定了其万年尺度的长期滑动速率,但对其现今运动学特征的认识仍不足.本文利用近二十年获取的GPS速度场,以贝叶斯理论作为断层滑动反演的理论框架,采用MCMC(马尔科夫链蒙特卡罗)方法,构建鄂拉山断裂的运动学模型,探讨该断裂的现今震间滑动速率和闭锁状态.研究结果表明,鄂拉山断裂的闭锁深度约为15 km,深部的滑动速率为5.0±1.5 mm·a^-1,反映了断层两侧地壳的整体相对运动速率.尽管当前研究区的GPS观测台站分布相对稀疏,但仍可以探测出断层闭锁状态沿走向的变化.在断层中段,由于几何形态的变化,形成了强闭锁的凹凸体,闭锁系数达到0.6~0.7;断层的南段和北段有明显的蠕滑特征,计算得到的闭锁系数仅为0.2~0.3.进一步计算凹凸体上由于滑动亏损产生的等效地震矩积累率为2.35×10^17 N·m/a,等同于M W5.6地震的能量水平.最后,针对研究区域GPS台站分布稀疏的局限,本研究基于滑动模型的误差最小化准则,给出有限资源条件下的GPS台站优化增设方案.  相似文献

鲜水河GPS监测网由18个沿鲜水河断裂带分布的点组成.1991年对该网进行了首次观测,1996和2000年进行了两期整网复测.本利用该网199l和2000年的二期GPS观测资料结合川西地区20世纪70年代以来的常规大地测量资料,计算给出了这一强震活动带现今运动图像:由测区的北西虾拉沱测点到南东的乾宁测点水平位移速率逐渐增大,而断层两盘的相对运动不明显.表明利用短边GPS测量可有效监视活动断裂带两侧一定区域的地壳运动.对比有形变测量资料以来川西地区6级以上地震分布的特点,认为可根据鲜水河断裂带断层两盘的相对运动和跨越断层的地壳整体运动的强弱这两种运动图像来研究区域强震的活动特征.  相似文献

作为青藏高原南东向“挤出逃逸”的重要通道,青藏高原东缘中南部具有大型走滑断裂广泛发育和地震活动强烈而频繁的特征.本文使用线性球面块体模型理论,在前人活动地块研究的基础上吸收新近研究成果,建立研究区三维块体几何模型,使用1999—2007年的GPS数据反演得到青藏高原东缘中南部主要活动断裂滑动速率.使用反演得到的滑动速率和最优断层闭锁深度估算了川滇菱形块体主要边界和其内部断裂的地震矩积累,并利用历史强震目录估算了地震矩释放,在比较两者差异的基础上得到了研究区地震矩亏损(未释放的地震矩)较大的断层和断层段,该结果可以作为研究区强震中长期危险性研究的参考.  相似文献

青藏高原现今构造变形的定量化研究是理解其动力过程的基础 ,近年来高速发展的GPS(全球定位系统 )技术为测量大尺度现今构造变形提供了最有效的手段。我们利用青藏高原及周边的5 5 3个GPS观测数据给出了其现今构造变形的速度场 ,表明印度和欧亚板块之间的相对运动主要被青藏高原周边的地壳缩短和内部的走滑剪切所调整吸收。其中 ,喜马拉雅山系吸收了青藏高原总缩短量的 4 4%~ 5 3% ,北部的阿尔金山、祁连山和柴达木盆地吸收了 1 5 %~ 1 7% ,高原内部吸收了 32 %~4 1 %。青藏高原的“向东挤出”实际上是地壳物质的向东流动而不是刚性地块的挤出。这一地壳物质流动带在高原西部以地表张性正断层和共轭剪切走滑断层为特征 ,到高原中东部转换为巨型的弧形走滑断裂带 ,再到高原东北缘转换为地壳缩短和绕东喜马拉雅构造结的顺时针旋转。青藏高原的大尺度现今构造变形以连续变形为特  相似文献

Amurian 板块是Zonenshain等提出的提出的东北亚地区内部一个构造亚板块.Amurian板块自提出以来就一直受到地学界的广泛重视.它到底是欧亚大陆的一部分,还是独立于欧亚大陆之外的一个独立次级构造块体?这个问题一直是是东亚,乃至欧亚大陆构造动力学研究的核心问题之一.许多学者从地质和地球物理学两个角度研究了Amurian板块存在的可能性.但是复杂的构造特征和稀少且弥散的地震分布使得Amurian问题充满了争议.全球卫星定位系统(GPS)技术的不断进步使得在短时间获得高精度、大范围、准实时的地壳运动观测数据,并确定地壳运动速度场成为可能.本文利用东北亚地区最新GPS资料,从大地测量学角度对东北亚地区的地壳运动特征进行分析,基于统计检验方法重点研究Amurian板块相对欧亚大陆的独立性及其边界等问题.  相似文献

It is well-known that the phase center of a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) antenna is not a stable point coinciding with a mechanical reference. The phase center position depends on the direction of the received signal, and is antenna-and signaldependent. Phase center corrections (PCC) models of GNSS antennas have been available for several years. The first method to create antenna PCC models was the relative field calibration procedure. Currently only absolute calibration models are generally recommended for use. In this study we investigate the differences between position estimates obtained using individual and type-mean absolute antenna calibrations in order to better understand how receiver antenna calibration models contribute to the Global Positioning System (GPS) positioning error budget. The station positions were estimated with two absolute calibration models: the igs08.atx model, which contains typemean calibration results, and individual antenna calibration models. Continuous GPS observations from selected Polish European Permanent Network (EPN) stations were used for these studies. The position time series were derived from the precise point positioning (PPP) technique using the NAPEOS scientific GNSS software package. The results show that the differences in the calibrations models propagate directly into the position domain, affecting daily as well sub-daily results. In daily solutions, the position offsets, resulting from the use of individual calibrations instead of type-mean igs08.atx calibrations, can reach up to 5 mm in the Up component, while in the horizontal one they generally stay below 1 mm. It was found that increasing the frequency of sub-daily coordinate solutions amplifies the effects of type-mean vs individual PCC-dependent differences, and also gives visible periodic variations in time series of GPS position differences.  相似文献

Here we present a new mathematical tool, the localized Hartley (HL) transform (Hartley, 1942; Bracewell, 1990), that allows for the filtering of 1-D time series through the identification of the power at various spatial and temporal wavelengths. Its application to and the associated results are presented from its application to continuous Global Positioning System (GPS) data from southern California for the time period 1994 through 2006. The HL transform filter removes the high-frequency components of the data and effectively isolates the longer period signal. This long-period signal is modeled as time-dependent postseismic deformation using the viscoelastic-gravitational model of Fernández and Rundle (2004) for six stations selected for their proximity to the Northridge earthquake. The x-, y-, and z-components of the postseismic deformation are compared to the filtered data. Results suggest that this long-period deformation is a result of postseismic relaxation and that the HL transform filter provides an important new technique for the filtering of geophysical data consisting of the superposition of the effects of numerous complex sources at a variety of spatial and temporal scales.  相似文献

The Northern Zhongtiaoshan Fault is a major deep fault at the southern margin of the Yuncheng Basin. There have been few studies on the fault, and the historical earthquakes are few and weak. However, the intensity of activity on the fault should never be underestimated. Through interpretations of aerial images, topography measurements and excavation of trenches, this paper studied the fault distribution, the surface deformation and the activity of the normal fault south of Salt Lake near the city of Yuncheng. By tracing faults in the three trenches, it was found that there had been at least three large paleoseismic events, at 1–3.5, 3.6–4.4 and 7.4–8.8 ka BP. Employing 14 C dating, we determined the same gravel layers in the uplifted side and downthrown side. Making differential Global Positioning System measurements of the vertical difference and topographic profile, we obtained the mean slip rate of the Northern Zhongtiaoshan Fault since 24.7 ka BP(0.75±0.05 mm/a). Using the results of relevant studies, we calculated the possible vertical fault displacement of one earthquake(2.35 m) and obtained the recurrence interval of characteristic earthquakes as 2940–3360 a after dividing the displacement by the mean slip rate.  相似文献

—GPS (Global Positioning System) observations started to be carried out in the Azores region under the scope of the TANGO (TransAtlantic Network for Geodesy and Oceanography) project in 1988. The measurements carried out between 1993 and 2000 (five campaigns) on nine GPS sites (one per island) were reprocessed using two state–of–the-art software packages. Different methodologies were applied to compute each campaign solution and the derived velocity field. The velocity fields, including the motions of two permanent stations, recently installed in the Azores, were computed within the most recent geodetic reference frame, ITRF2000 (International Terrestrial Reference Frame, solution 2000). They are compared with the motions of the stable rigid tectonic plates using as reference DEOS2k, a global tectonic model developed using geodetic data. The relative motions between the Western and Central groups of islands yield to evaluate the opening rate of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (boundary between the North American plate and the Eurasian and African plates). Concerning the boundary between the Eurasian and African plates, the motion of the TANGO sites in the Central and Eastern groups clearly identifies the transition pattern between those two plates. Two of the sites are considered to be located in the stable part of these plates, whereas the remaining five are within the deformation region of the Eurasia-Africa boundary. The conclusions are analyzed in view of the different deformation models, derived from geodynamic or geophysical data that have been proposed for the region.  相似文献

The Global Geodynamics Project (GGP) started on July 1, 1997 and is now in its 11th year of operation. It has a relatively small number of stations (24), compared to seismic (GSN) or geodetic (GPS) networks, but it is the only database that is accumulating relative gravity measurements worldwide. As any scientific organization matures, there is a change in the culture of the project and the people involved. To remain viable, it is necessary not only to maintain the original goals, but also to incorporate new ideas and applications on the science involved. The main challenges within GGP are to ensure: (a) that the instruments are properly calibrated, (b) that data is being recorded with the highest accuracy, and with appropriate hydrological instrumentation, and (c) that the flow of data from all recording stations to the ICET database continues as agreed in within the GGP framework. These practical matters are the basis for providing high quality recordings that will extend the usefulness of the network into the future to meet new challenges in geosciences. Several new stations have been brought into operation in the past few years, but the data availability from some of these stations still leaves room for improvement. Nevertheless, the core group of stations established more than 10 years ago has been able to maintain the high standards of the original concept, and much research has been published using network data in areas as diverse as hydrology, polar motion, and Earth's normal modes. GGP will also participate in some of the scientific tasks of the Global Geodetic Observing System program, at least initially by providing relative gravity measurements for collocation with other high precision geodetic measurements.  相似文献

We review the results of the geodetic and structural studies carried out on La Palma Island using geodetic and geophysical data during the period 1992–2007. InSAR and GPS observation techniques were applied to study the existence of deformation on the island and gravity observations were carried out for structural studies. Gravity data were inverted using a nonlinear three-dimensional gravity inversion approach to obtain the geometry of the anomalous bodies constructed in a random growth process with respect to an exponentially stratified background. The main structural feature is a large central body (under the Caldera de Taburiente) with high density, which was interpreted as the Pliocene-age uplifted seamount and a relatively dense intrusive plutonic complex/magma body. The Cumbre Vieja series is characterized by elongated minima distributed according to the rift structure. InSAR results show a clear subsidence located on the Teneguía volcano, where the last eruption took place in 1971. A thermal source is the most probable origin for this deformation. A GPS network composed of 26 stations covering the total island surface was set up. Vertical displacements determined comparing the GPS coordinates obtained in 2007 with coordinates determined in 1994 are consistent with the InSAR results obtained in the southern part of the island. This is not the case for the northern part. From the comparison of 2006 and 2007 coordinates it is clear that more time is needed to obtain significant displacements, but observed trends are also consistent with InSAR results. All the observed significant displacements are in stations located outside of the large high-density central body.  相似文献

The Global Positioning System (GPS) observables are affected by the ionosphere. The dispersive nature of this effect and the use of two frequencies in the GPS observations make possible to measure the ionospheric total electron content (TEC) from dual frequency GPS data. In this work we test the concept of permanent monitoring of TEC using a network of GPS receivers at high latitudes. We have used GPS data from five permanent receivers in Scandinavia, from 1–30 January 1994, with geographic latitudes ranging from 57.4°N to 78.9°N. The results show the capability of the method to monitor the evolution of TEC as a function of time and geographical location. We have detected night-time enhancements almost every night for some of the stations, and we have also been able to produce maps of the instantaneous TEC as a function of both latitude and longitude around the GPS network. We also present some of the current limitations in the use of GPS for estimating TEC at high latitudes such as the difficulties in solving for cycle-slips, and the necessity of reliable values for the receiver and satellite differential instrumental biases.  相似文献

If aseismic slip occurs on a fault or its deeper extension, both seismicity and crustal deformation around the source would be affected. Anomalous phenomena of this kind are revealed from earthquake occurrence data and geodetic records during a period of 10 years leading up to the March 2005 M 7.0 earthquake west of Fukuoka that occurred off the northern coast of Kyushu, Japan. Seismicity rate anomalies (quiescence and activation) took place relative to the rates expected by the ETAS model in a number of seismic zones in and around the Kyushu District. The seismic zone of the relative quiescence and activation consistently corresponds to the zone of the negative and positive ΔCFS (Coulomb failure stress change), respectively, assuming the precursory aseismic slips on the M 7.0 source fault. In addition, we consider the time series of geodetic baseline distances between permanent GPS stations in the Kyushu District for the same period, which also supports the possible precursory slips rather than the known slow slips beneath the Bungo Straight, off the eastern coast of Kyushu.  相似文献

The quasi-geoid/geoid can be determined from the Global Positioning System (GPS) ellipsoidal height and the normal/orthometric heights derived from levelling (GPS-levelling). In this study a gravimetric quasigeoid and GPS-levelling height differences are combined to develop a new surface, suitable for “levelling” by GPS. This new surface provides better conversion of GPS ellipsoidal heights to the national normal heights. Different combining procedures, a four-parameter solution, linear and cubic splines interpolations, as well as the least-squares collocation method were investigated and compared over entire Norway. More than 1700 GPS-levelling stations were used in this study. The combined surface provides significant accuracy improvement for the normal height transformation of GPS height data, as demonstrated by the post-fitting residuals. The best solution, based on the least-squares collocation, provided a conversion surface for the transformation of GPS heights into normal height in Norway with an accuracy of about 5 cm.  相似文献
