The radio properties ofUhuru X-ray sources with fairly certain extragalactic identifications are described briefly. Radio to X-ray flux ratios are low for rich clusters of galaxies and high for double radio sources. There is some evidence from the Abell 426 (Perseus) and Abell 1367 clusters that a radio galaxy in a rich cluster may be the centre of extended X-ray emission. Nuclei of galaxies have an enormous range in X-ray luminosity; the known range is from 1030 W for our galaxy to 3×1038 W for 3C 273. Unidentified X-ray sources at high galactic latitudes may include new classes of objects with very low radio to X-ray flux ratios or hard X-ray emission.  相似文献

We present the results of spectroscopic and photometric observations for the B star StHα62 with an IR excess, a post-AGB candidate identified with the IR source IRAS 07171+1823. High-resolution spectroscopy has allowed the λ4330–7340 Å spectrum of the star to be identified: it contains absorption lines of an early B star and emission lines of a gaseous shell. The residual line intensities have been measured. The heliocentric radial velocities measured from absorption lines of the star and emission lines of the shell are 〈V r 〉 = +45 ± 1 and +52 ± 1 km s?1, respectively. The line-of-sight velocities of gas-dust clouds determined from the interstellar Na I lines are 12 and 33 km s?1. The He I λ5876 Å line exhibits a P Cyg profile, which is indicative of an ongoing mass loss by the star. The expansion velocity of the outer shell estimated from forbidden lines is 12–13 km s?1. Quantitative classification gives the spectral type B0.51 for the star. The parameters of the gaseous shell have been determined: N e = 3.1 × 103 cm?3 and T e ~ 21 000 K. For a number of extragalactic sources of infrared radiation, for example some quasars and nuclei of Class I Seyfert galaxies that are also radio sources, there is a characteristic maximum in the radiation spectrum atv1011 Hz. We discuss a model in which this feature is regarded as intrinsic to the process of electron production, and in which the radiation is produced by the synchrotron mechanism. A two-component version of the model can be employed in the interpretation of the composite radiation spectra of several sources — 3C 84 (NGC 1275), 3C 120 and 3C 273.  相似文献

The Solar Maximum Mission Gamma Ray Experiment (SMM GRE) utilizes an actively shielded, multicrystal scintillation spectrometer to measure the flux of solar gamma rays. The instrument provides a 476-channel pulse height spectrum (with energy resolution of 7% at 662 keV) every 16.38 s over the energy range 0.3–9 MeV. Higher time resolution (2 s) is available in three windows between 3.5 and 6.5 MeV to study prompt gamma ray line emission at 4.4 and 6.1 MeV. Gamma ray spectral analysis can be extended to 15 MeV on command. Photons in the energy band from 300–350 keV are recorded with a time resolution of 64 ms. A high energy configuration also gives the spectrum of photons in the energy range from 10–100 MeV and the flux of neutrons 20 MeV. Both have a time resolution of 2 s. Auxiliary X-ray detectors will provide spectra with 1-sec time resolution over the energy range of 10–140 keV. The instrument is designed to measure the intensity, energy, and Doppler shift of narrow gamma ray lines as well as the intensity of extremely broadened lines and the photon continuum. The main objective is to use this time and spectral information from both nuclear gamma ray lines and the photon continuum in a direct study of the dynamics of the solar flare/particle acceleration phenomena.  相似文献

We examine the possibility that the observed cosmic-ray protons are of primary extragalactic origin. The present \(\bar p\) data are consistent with a primary extragalactic component having \(\bar p\) /p?3.2±0.7 x 10-4 independent of energy. Following the suggestion that most extragalactic cosmic rays are from active galaxies, we propose that most of the observed \(\bar p\) 's are alos from the same sites. This would imply the possibility of destroying the corresponding \(\bar \alpha \) 'sat the source, thus leading to a flux ratio \(\bar \alpha \) /α< \(\bar p\) /p. We further predict an estimate for \(\bar \alpha \) α~10-5, within the range of future cosmic-ray detectors. the cosmological implications of this proposal are discussed.  相似文献

We provide our estimates of the intensity of the gamma-ray emission with an energy near 0.1 TeV generated in intergalactic space in the interactions of cosmic rays with background emissions. We assume that the cosmic-ray sources are pointlike and that these are active galactic nuclei. The following possible types of sources are considered: remote and powerful ones, at redshifts up to z = 1.1, with a monoenergetic particle spectrum, E = 1021 eV; the same objects, but with a power-law particle spectrum; and nearby sources at redshifts 0 < z ≤ 0.0092, i.e., at distances no larger than 50 Mpc also with a power-law particle spectrum. The contribution of cosmic rays to the extragalactic diffuse gammaray background at an energy of 0.1 TeVhas been found to depend on the type of sources or, more specifically, the contribution ranges from f ? 10?4 to f ≈ 0.1, depending on the source model. We conclude that the data on the extragalactic background gamma-ray emission can be used to determine the characteristics of extragalactic cosmic-ray sources, i.e., their distances and the pattern of the particle energy spectrum.  相似文献

Soft X-ray emission from the X-ray source Per X-1 was observed in the 0.4–2 keV energy interval from a rocket borne X-ray detector. Spectral analysis of the data indicates that in the 0.4–2 keV band the X-ray emission from Per X-1 can be fitted either with a power law of slope-(4.8±1.2) or a thermal bremsstrahlung spectrum with akT value of (0.26 ?0.08 +0.12 ) keV. Such a steep spectrum is inconsistent with the spectrum measured above 2 keV. The measured flux in 0.4–2 keV band corresponds to X-ray luminosity of 3×1045 ergs s?1 for Per X-1.  相似文献

As part of the search for the “dark molecular gas (DMG),” we report on the results of HCO+\(J=1\mbox{--}0\) absorption observations toward nine bright extragalactic millimeter wave continuum sources. The extragalactic sources are at high Galactic latitudes (\(|b| > 10^{\circ} \)) and seen at small extinction (\(E(B - V)\lesssim 0.1\) mag). We have detected the HCO+ absorption lines toward two sources, B0838+133 and B2251+158. The absorption toward B2251+158 was previously reported, while the absorption toward B0838+133 is a new detection. We derive hydrogen column densities or their upper limits toward the nine sources from our observations and compare them to those expected from CO line emission and far-infrared dust continuum emission. Toward the seven sources with no HCO+ detection, CO emission has not been detected, either. Thus the sight lines are likely to be filled with almost pure atomic gas. Toward the two sources with HCO+ detection, CO emission has been also detected. Comparison of the H2 column densities from HCO+ absorption and CO emission suggests a non-negligible amount of DMG toward B0838+133.  相似文献

The extragalactic sources of ultra-high-energy (E > 4 × 1019 eV) cosmic rays that make a small contribution to the flux of particles recorded by ground-based arrays are discussed. We show that cosmic rays from such sources can produce a noticeable diffuse gamma-ray flux in intergalactic space compared to the the data obtained with Fermi LAT (onboard the Fermi space observatory). A possible type of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in which cosmi-ray protons can be accelerated to energies 1021 eV is considered as an illustration of such sources. We conclude that ultra-high-energy cosmic rays from the AGNs being discussed can contribute significantly to the extragalactic diffuse gamma-ray emission. In addition, a constraint on the fraction of the AGNs under consideration relative to the BL Lac objects and radio galaxies has been obtained from a comparison with the Fermi LAT data.  相似文献

The gravitational instability of expanding shells evolving in a homogeneous and static medium is discussed. In the low density environment (n = 1 cm-3), the fragmentation starts in shells with diameters of a few 100 pc and fragment masses are in the range of 5 × 103 - 106 M . In the high density environment (n = 105 - 107 cm-3), shells fragment at diameters of pc producing clumps of stellar masses. The mass spectrum in both environments is approximated by a power law dN/dmm -2.3. This is close to the slope of the stellar IMF. To reproduce the observed mass spectrum of clouds (the spectral index close to ∼ -2.0) we have to assume, that the cloud formation time is independent of the cloud size, similarly to the Jeans unstable medium. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The results of flux pulsar radioemission measurements at meter wavelengths, made at Pushchino Radio Astronomical Observatory of the Lebedev Physical Institute, are presented. Flux densities at 102, 85, 61 and 39 MHz have been measured for 85, 29, 37 and 23 pulsars correspondingly. Some of them were performed at all frequencies simultaneously. On the basis of these data and high frequencies data obtained by other authors, spectra of 52 pulsars were plotted. In practically all investigated pulsars we have detected a turn-over frequency at which the flux density of pulsar radioemission attained its maximum. Its mean value isv m =130±80 MHz. Averaged on many pulsars, the spectral index is negative in the 39–61 MHz frequency range and passes through zero at frequencies of about 100 MHz, becoming positive in the 100–400 MHz frequency range. It was noticed that the spectral index in the 100–400 MHz interval depends upon such pulsar periods as α100−=0.7logp+0.9. Using the spectra, more precise radio luminosities of pulsars have been computed.  相似文献

Three-wave interactions can modify the very bright radio waves propagating through dense, magnetized pulsar winds and prevent radiation from escaping, or severely alter the resulting spectrum. Absence of the signatures of such effects in the very bright radio emission from pulsars implies constraints on the structure of their winds, especially for a spherically-symmetric wind which should block the radiation unless that Lorentz factor of the pairs is 8 × 102.Presented at the Cosmic Winds and the Heliosphere conference in Tucson, Arizona, U.S.A., October 18–22, 1993.  相似文献

LS 5039 is the only X-ray binary persistently detected at TeV energies by the Cherenkov HESS telescope. It is moreover a γ-ray emitter in the GeV and possibly MeV energy ranges. To understand important aspects of jet physics, like the magnetic field content or particle acceleration, and emission processes, such as synchrotron and inverse Compton (IC), a complete modeling of the multiwavelength data is necessary. LS 5039 has been detected along almost all the electromagnetic spectrum thanks to several radio, infrared, optical and soft X-ray detections. However, hard X-ray detections above 20 keV have been so far elusive and/or doubtful, partly due to source confusion for the poor spatial resolution of hard X-ray instruments. We report here on deep (∼300 ks) serendipitous INTEGRAL hard X-ray observations of LS 5039, coupled with simultaneous VLA radio observations. We obtain a 20–40 keV flux of 1.1±0.3 mCrab (5.9 (±1.6) ×10−12 erg cm−2 s−1), a 40–100 keV upper limit of 1.5 mCrab (9.5×10−12 erg cm−2 s−1), and typical radio flux densities of ∼25 mJy at 5 GHz. These hard X-ray fluxes are significantly lower than previous estimates obtained with BATSE in the same energy range but, in the lower interval, agree with extrapolation of previous RXTE measurements. The INTEGRAL observations also hint to a break in the spectral behavior at hard X-rays. A more sensitive characterization of the hard X-ray spectrum of LS 5039 from 20 to 100 keV could therefore constrain key aspects of the jet physics, like the relativistic particle spectrum and the magnetic field strength. Future multiwavelength observations would allow to establish whether such hard X-ray synchrotron emission is produced by the same population of relativistic electrons as those presumably producing TeV emission through IC.  相似文献

Data accumulated by the Solar Maximum Mission Gamma Ray Spectrometer (GRS) have been searched for evidence of the 2.223 MeV neutron capture line from the Sun, outside the times of -ray-emitting solar flares. Background-corrected spectra accumulated over 3-day intervals between 1980 and 1989 show no evidence of the line. Upper limits are reported separately for periods of high and low solar activity.A conservative 3 upper limit of 5.7 × 10–5 (cm2 s)–1 is placed on the steady flux in the 2.223 MeV line during inactive periods, which is nearly two orders of magnitude lower than previously published results. After correction for limb darkening of the line emission from off-center positions, this upper limit becomes 7.1 × 10–5 (cm2s)–1. Our 3 upper limit on the steady flux in the line during periods of high solar activity is 6.9 × 10–5 (cm2 s)–1, or 8.6 × 10–5 (cm2 s)–1 after correction for limb darkening. Our results imply that the quiescent solar corona cannot be heated by ions accelerated above 1 MeV in microflares (or a continuous acceleration process), so long as the ion energy spectrum is similar to that measured in large flares. We also use our results to derive the rate of tritium production at the solar surface; our upper limit of 9 nuclei (cm2 s)–1 is about a factor of 9 below the upper limit from searches for 3H in the solar wind. We place upper limits of the order 1033 on the number of energetic (> 30 MeV) protons which can be stored in active regions prior to being released in solar flares, which imply that the strongest observed flares cannot be produced by such a mechanism.  相似文献

From the original observed data of RXTE (Rossi X-ray timing explorer), the data of 3C 273 in the X-ray band of 2-10 keV from February 2, 1996 (MJD 50115) to August 27, 2007 (MJD 54339) are analyzed. The photon spectral indexes and corresponding fluxes of the observational data from 1010 observations are obtained in total. The average time of each observation is 1666.76 seconds. By analyzing the spectral variation and behavior of the light variation of 3C 273 in the hard X-ray band of 2-10 keV during observational periods, it is found that there was a significant anti-correlation between the photon spectral index Γ and flux lgF2∼10 keV in February 2000, March and April 2003, February, March and July 2004, as well as 2006 and 2007. During the observational periods in 1999 and from 2000 to 2007, there was also a significant anti-correlation between the monthly average behaviors of Γ and lgF2∼10 keV. From the quantitative analysis of the behavior of light variation in the entire observational period, several relatively large light variations are found. The evidence of the existence of the Fe emission line with average width of 93.85±21.49 eV is also found by fitting a part of the spectra. Through analyzing the intensity of the light variation and features of Fe emission line, it is found that 3C 273 has some characteristics of blazars and Seyfert galaxies simultaneously.  相似文献

We present the results of our study of the emission from the transient burster MX 0836-42 using its observations by the INTEGRAL and RXTE X-ray and gamma-ray observatories in the period 2003–2004. The source’s broadband X-ray spectrum in the energy range 3–120 keV has been obtained and investigated for the first time. We have detected 39 X-ray bursts from this source. Their analysis shows that the maximum 3–20-keV flux varies significantly from burst to burst, F ~ (0.5–1.5) × 10?8 erg cm?2 s?1. Using the flux at the maximum of the brightest detected burst, we determined an upper limit for the distance to the source, D ? 8 kpc.  相似文献
