Irreversible thermodynamic theories with internal state variables can be used to derive a general constitutive law for both transient and steady-state behaviours of rocks. This constitutive law can represent the concepts of damage and damage evolution in either the fibre-bundle model or continuum damage mechanics. We have previously proposed an empirically based constitutive law for both the transient and steady-state behaviours of rocks ultimately derived from laboratory experimental data. We show here that this law is concordant with the general constitutive law derived from irreversible thermodynamic theories, and that the relaxation modulus has a temporal power–law that depends on a structural fractal property of rocks. Our constitutive law predicts forms for the cumulative Benioff strain-release for precursory seismic activations and the modified Omori's laws of aftershocks, both aspects of the temporal fractal properties of seismicity. These seismic properties can also be derived by the fibre-bundle model or continuum damage mechanics. Our model suggests that these time-scale invariant processes of seismicity may be regulated by the fractal structures of crustal rocks.  相似文献

Summary Some comments are presented on the finite element analysis of the time dependent effects that develop when a tunnel is driven in a rock mass characterized by a viscous behaviour. First, the so called swelling and squeezing phenomena are described considering in particular rocks containing clay minerals. Subsequently the discussion is focused on the squeezing behaviour, i.e. on the time dependent increase of the shear deformation which develops with minor volume changes. Some linear and non-linear viscous constitutive laws are discussed, as well as their use in the solution of boundary value problems. Finally, the effects taking place around tunnels driven into squeezing rocks are illustrated through some numerical analyses based on these constitutive models.  相似文献

This paper describes a benchmark problem for a floating stone columns supported embankment. In the 3D model, a thick soft subsoil deposit represented by Singapore marine clay was treated by floating stone columns to support a 2.0 m high embankment. The 3D numerical results were compared among different constitutive models such as the hardening soil model, soft soil model, modified Cam-clay model and Mohr-Coulomb model, highlighting the effect of non-linearity in the overall performance of the ground structure. The advanced constitutive soil models allow more realistic soil response to be investigated. From the numerical results, the Mohr-Coulomb model with elastic-perfectly plastic stress-strain response was able to give comparable total settlements but failed to demonstrate some intrinsic behaviours obtained with advanced soil models. These intrinsic behaviours include the mode of failure, displacements profile, stress transfer mechanism and rate of consolidation. This benchmark example has given us an improved understanding of the performance of floating stone columns when a more realistic soil behaviour is modelled.  相似文献

Faults in carbonates are well known sources of upper crustal seismicity throughout the world. In the outer sector of the Northern Apennines, ancient carbonate-bearing thrusts are exposed at the surface and represent analogues of structures generating seismicity at depth. We describe the geometry, internal structure and deformation mechanisms of three large-displacement thrusts from the km scale to the microscale. Fault architecture and deformation mechanisms are all influenced by the lithology of faulted rocks. Where thrusts cut across bedded or marly limestones, fault zones are thick (tens of metres) and display foliated rocks (S-CC′ tectonites and/or YPR cataclasites) characterized by intense pressure-solution deformation. In massive limestones, faulting occurs in localized, narrow zones that exhibit abundant brittle deformation. A general model for a heterogeneous, carbonate-bearing thrust is proposed and discussed. Fault structure, affected by stratigraphic heterogeneity and inherited structures, influences the location of geometrical asperities and fault strain rates. The presence of clay minerals and the strain rate experienced by fault rocks modulate the shifting from cataclasis-dominated towards pressure-solution-dominated deformation. Resulting structural heterogeneity of these faults may mirror their mechanical and seismic behaviour: we suggest that seismic asperities are located at the boundaries of massive limestones in narrow zones of localized slip whereas weak shear zones constitute slowly slipping portions of the fault, reflecting other types of “aseismic” behaviour.  相似文献

The layer-parallel compression of a regular bilaminate consisting of layers with materials described by an incompressible power-law elastic model is considered. The average mechanical properties of this idealised multilayer are then represented by those of an equivalent anisotropic continuum with internal resistance to bending. Changes in material properties that accompany uniform finite shortening are accounted for. Interpretation of the internal instability analysis for such a continuum, introduced in the companion paper involves the use of a spectrum which at a given level of strain, scans all directions within the continuum for relative susceptibility to a heterogeneous simple shearing instability.Estimates of nonlinear material properties from reported experiments on the behaviour of various rocks in the time-independent deformation regime, and geometric parameters such as the volume fraction of each material and the number of confined layers are considered. The shapes of the resulting spectra may be used to predict natural conditions that will favour the initiation of repetitive buckle folds or more localized disturbances such as kink-bands and faults. Results suggest that for typical properties of sedimentary multilayers, kinking is strongly favoured over repetitive buckling where the weaker material occupies only a very small volume fraction of the multilayer. The effect of significant imperfections leading to slippage between layers is discussed.Finally, a simple classification of structure genesis is proposed in which the mechanical relationships between apparently diverse structures is illustrated.  相似文献

岩石几何损伤模型是建立统计损伤本构模型的重要基础。在岩石变形力学特性基础上对现有岩石几何损伤模型进行了回顾性分析,针对它们难以较好地反映初始损伤特征和峰后变形破坏特征的缺陷与不足,首先,将岩石材料视为由未损伤部分、初始损伤部分和后继损伤部分组成,提出了考虑初始损伤的岩石几何损伤模型;然后,通过探讨Weibull分布参数m和F0对损伤变量变化产生的影响,构建了参数型岩石几何损伤模型,在此基础上建立了应变软化类岩石统计损伤本构模型并进行了修正,给出了模型参数的确定方法;最后,通过模型验证和参数分析表明,修正后模型能够较好地模拟岩石变形破裂全过程,参数l和h对损伤变量变化产生的影响与m和F0等效,解决了现有岩石几何损伤模型存在的共性问题,该模型和方法具有一定的合理性和可行性。  相似文献

为了揭示岩石变形的破坏机理以及岩石材料产生损伤的本质原因,文章对岩石材料变形规律和力学特性进行分析后,再以损伤变量作为影响岩石变形和力学性能变化的内变量,采用能量原理、有效应力原理和统计损伤理论构建了一种基于弹性能释放率的新型岩石统计损伤本构模型。该损伤模型进一步完善了岩石损伤本构模型的理论体系,弥补了传统损伤模型无法合理解释引发岩石破坏原因的不足。利用岩石试验数据对损伤模型的参数进行确定,并将损伤演化模型代入弹性能-应变模型中,分析在加载过程中岩石弹性能变化的规律。结果表明:模型曲线与试验曲线在峰前变形阶段几乎重合,说明损伤模型可以很好地反映岩石的变形特性;在初始加载阶段,岩石的损伤变量随着轴向应变的增大而增大,说明在荷载作用下,岩石内部裂隙逐渐发展发育,使得岩石材料的损伤逐步积累;在围压达到10 MPa以上时,损伤-应变曲线基本重合。同时,在初始加载时刻,损伤-应变曲线增长率急剧上升,大约在岩石应变为0.01%时,损伤-应变曲线趋于平稳变化状态;且由于岩石在峰值应力点附近损伤迅速累积,进而使得损伤变量在数值上快速增大到1,这说明了围压的增大使得岩石破坏极限得到显著的提升。  相似文献

In order to understand the mechanical behaviours of the surrounding rocks in the underground caverns of the Wudongde hydropower plant, triaxial tests are performed on a type of dolomite. It is revealed that damage induced by crack development is the main factor controlling the nonlinear plastic deformation and failure behaviour of the dolomite in both pre- and post-peak regimes. Based on this understanding, a coupled elastoplastic damage model is developed for capturing the dolomite’s mechanical behaviours. In the model, the effects of plasticity and damage on rocks is described by introducing plastic hardening and damage softening commonly in the plastic yield surface. Which are both derived from a suitable Helmholtz free energy function. The model is used to simulate the triaxial tests. Comparisons between test results and the numerical modelling show that the developed model is capable of describing the macro mechanical behaviours of the Wudongde dolomite.  相似文献

Dynamic collapses of deeply mined coal rocks are severe threats to miners. To predict the collapses more accurately using electromagnetic radiation (EMR), we investigate the time-varying multifractal characteristics and formation mechanism of EMR induced by underground coal mining. A series of uniaxial compression and multi-stage loading experiments with coal samples of different mechanical properties were carried out. The EMR signals during their damage evolution were monitored in real-time; the inherent law of EMR time series was analyzed by fractal theory. The results show that the time-varying multifractal characteristics of EMR are determined by damage evolutions process, the dissipated energy caused by damage evolutions such as crack propagation, fractal sliding and shearing can be regard as the fingerprint of various EMR micro-mechanics. Based on the Irreversible thermodynamics and damage mechanics, we introduced the damage internal variable, constructed the dissipative potential function and established the coupled model of the EMR and the dissipative energy, which revealed the nature of dynamic nonlinear characteristics of EMR. Dynamic multifractal spectrum is the objective response of EMR signals, thus it can be used to evaluate the coal deformation and fracture process.  相似文献

压缩作用下岩石内部细观裂纹扩展导致岩石产生损伤,其对岩石变形、强度等力学特性有着重要影响;然而,岩石内部裂纹扩展与剪切特性(黏聚力、内摩擦角及剪切应力)动态演化关系很少被研究。基于裂纹扩展机制推出的岩石应力-应变本构模型,并结合摩尔-库仑失效准则,推出了在岩石应力-应变关系峰值应力(对应岩石压缩强度)状态时,本构模型细观力学参数与岩石黏聚力、内摩擦角及剪切强度之间的状态关系。然后,引入岩石应力-应变本构关系塑性变形阶段服从摩尔-库仑屈服准则的力学流动规律,进而将已推出的应力-应变关系峰值状态点所满足的细观力学参数与黏聚力、内摩擦角关系,推广到岩石进入塑性变形后,岩石内部裂纹扩展(或应变)与黏聚力、内摩擦角及剪切应力动态演化的理论关系。随着裂纹扩展或应变增加,黏聚力、内摩擦角及剪切应力先增大,达到一个峰值点后减小,该结果与应力-应变本构曲线变化趋势相对应。通过试验结果验证了所提出理论结果的合理性。并讨论了初始裂纹之间摩擦系数对黏聚力、内摩擦角及剪切应力随裂纹扩展或应变演化规律的影响。  相似文献

Wheeler, Sharma and Buisson proposed an elasto‐plastic constitutive model for unsaturated soils that couples the mechanical and water retention behaviours. The model was formulated for isotropic stress states and adopts the mean Bishop's stress and modified suction as stress state variables. This paper deals with the extension of this constitutive model to general three‐dimensional stress conditions, proposing the generalized stress–strain relationships required for the numerical integration of the constitutive model. A characteristic of the original model is the consideration of a number of elasto‐plastic mechanisms to describe the complex behaviour of unsaturated soils. This work presents the three‐dimensional formulation of these coupled irreversible mechanisms in a generalized way including anisotropic loading. The paper also compares the results from the model with published experiments performed under different loading conditions. Given the contrasting behaviour observed for geomaterials, for example, during landslides of the flow type, this contribution proposes an original constitutive model, which associates both an elasto‐plastic relation and a Bingham viscous law linked by a mechanical transition criterion. This last is defined as the second‐order work sign for each material point, which is a general criterion for divergence instabilities. Finite element method with Lagrangian integration points is chosen as a framework for implementing the new model because of its well‐known ability to deal with both solid and fluid behaviours in large deformation processes. A first boundary model considering a sample of initially stable soil, a slope and an obstacle is performed. The results show the power of the constitutive model because the consistent evolution of initiation, propagation and arrest of the mudflow is described. A parametric study is led on various plastic and viscous parameters to determine their influence on the flow development and arrest. Finally, forces against the obstacle are compared with good agreement with those of other authors for the same geometry and a pure viscous behaviour. Two simple constitutive laws appropriate for elastic–plastic deformation up to peak load of low porosity rocks are presented. Both laws account for mean stress dependence of yield hardening between yield and peak strength and non-associative plastic straining. The two constitutive laws are based on the Mohr–Coulomb and the Mises–Schleicher yield criteria. The yield criteria are matched at axisymmetric compression and the relationships among the constitutive parameters are given. The parameters are then evaluated for two evaporite rocks anhydrite and polyhalite based on axisymmetric compression data. Comparison of predicted stress–strain laws with those measured in the laboratory show that these laws can be used for engineering analysis.  相似文献

In this paper, a phenomenological constitutive model is proposed to simulate the stress–strain behaviours of intact rocks with shear failure mode. The model captures a wide range of behaviours of rock material such as elastic, plastic, strain softening, ‘Class II’, strain localization, elastic modulus degradation, etc. The sensitivity of the stress–strain relation on the parameters is also investigated. 研究了膏溶角砾岩的侧限膨胀特性及其影响因素。这种岩石受到扰动后可吸水发生膨胀变形使其结构发生变形甚至破坏。通过GDG高压固结仪采用平衡加压法和充分膨胀法研究了侧限情况下岩石的膨胀力指标, 解释了充分膨胀法膨胀力指标大于平衡加压法膨胀力指标的原因。通过试验研究了供水充足条件下膏溶角砾岩侧限自由膨胀变形演化规律, 阐述了膏溶角砾岩侧限膨胀变形的影响因素。岩石试样采自山西石太客运专线太行山隧道, 试验结果表明, 膏溶角砾岩的膨胀特性不同于常规的膨胀岩, 其轴向膨胀变形随含水率增加而增加, 随密度增大而减小。  相似文献

The two stress-state variable approach has been widely used in interpreting unsaturated soil behaviour. However this approach cannot take into account the effect of degree of saturation or water contents on the stress–strain behaviour and strength of unsaturated soils. The triaxial test results presented in this paper show that even if the same path of net stress and suction is followed, the stress–strain relation and strength are different due to different degrees of saturation. When other conditions are the same, the higher the degree of saturation for the soil sample is, the higher the stress ratio corresponding to a given axial strain will be. This effect can be modeled by using an elasto-plastic constitutive model coupling hydraulic and mechanical behaviour of unsaturated soils. Comparisons between the predicted and measured results are presented, which demonstrate that the model can quantitatively simulate the influence of the degree of saturation on stress–strain behaviour and strength of unsaturated soils.  相似文献
