HD 147010, which is in the reflection nebula vd B 102, has been found to be a hot Ap silicon star rather than a normal A supergiant. From theUBV and JHK photometry of the star, colour excessE(B - V) of 0.29 and the ratio of total-to-selective absorptionR of 4.3 have been obtained. The high value ofR implies bigger grain size and also confirms the association of the star with the nebula. The dereddened colours of the star can be fitted to a theoretical energy distribution with Teff = 13000 ± 500 K and logg = 3.6 ± 0.2. HD 147010 has also been found to be a spectrum variable; in particular, lines of Cr II show large intensity variations.  相似文献

The observational data analysis indicates that the star is enveloped into a nebula considerably stretched along the equatorial plane. Vega is a star with B9.5IV-V characteristics withT e =10.105±230 K andR=2.69±0.25R. The cover deforms energy distribution in Vega spectrum. As a result, the energy from with distribution corresponding to an A0V star is imitated in the direction towards the observer.  相似文献

On the basis of data on planetary nebula (PN) central star temperatures obtained by measurements in the ultraviolet (UV) range, the empirical calibration dependence between the number of Lyman photons emitted by a central starS and PN diameterD, is constructed. The temperatures of 118 PN central stars are estimated with this dependence. It is shown that the central star masses are distributed in a wide interval from 0.5 to 1.2M . About 60% of all stars have masses <0.6M , about 25% have masses >0.6M and the remainder have masses 0.6M . The averaged empirical tracks of evolution of low-mass (<0.6M ) and massive (>0.6M ) central stars differing considerably from each other are constructed. It is shown that the majority of central stars may possess hot chromospheres (T>2×105 K) which spread for several tens of radii of the central star. The PN originates as a result of ionization of the matter ejected by a red giant at the superwind stage. The cause for this ionization is the UV radiation of the PN central star.  相似文献

IUE ultraviolet spectral recording for a low excitating planetary nebula NGC 6369 is obtained. The very strong doublet 2800 Mgii in emission as well as not less strong absorption line 2852 Mgi are discovered in the spectrum of this nebula. It is shown that the resonance line 2852 Mgi may originate only in a neutral envelope, around the nebula, consisting of neutral hydrogen, neutral magnesium, and dust particles (Hi+Mgi). The importance of this absorption line as a powerful indicator of the discovery of neutral envelopes around the planetary nebulae is outlined.The possibility of the existence of one more envelope—transition zone—immediately contacting with the bright that is ionized part of nebula (Hii+Mgii) is also shown. The transition zone consists of neutral hydrogen, ionized magnesium, and dust particles (Hi+Mgii), main parameters of this zone are also obtained (Table IV).The temperature of the central star of this nebula is obtained for the first time:T *=48000 K. Continuous background in the interval 2600–3000 Å is identified with Balmer continuum with electron temperatureT e =12500 K.  相似文献

We have obtained IUE ultraviolet spectra of the low-excitation planetary nebula CN 3-1. The recordings show the well-known doublet 2800 MgII and resonance line 2852 MgI as strong absorption lines. We show that these lines cannot be of interstellar origin and that they may be formed in two envelopes surrounding the main nebula: in the transition zone (doublet 2800 MgII) and in the neutral envelope (line 2852 MgI). These envelopes possess an important property: they contain dust particles, and even a moderate amount of such particles may influence the strength of the absorption lines of MgII and MgI.The emission line 4686 HeII has no relation to the nebula CN 3-1 and belongs to its nucleus, a star of type WR. It is very probable that the nucleus of this nebula is a binary system with a WR component (T *=50 000 K), exciting the helium lines, and a star of B0 or B2 type (T *=26 000 K) exciting the nebular linesN 1+N 2 [OIII], 3727 [OII], hydrogen lines, etc.  相似文献

Photoelectric UBV observations of the central star of the planetary nebula NGC 2346 obtained during 60 nights between October 1991 and February 1992 are presented (Tables 1 and 2). Four minima have been stated and can be interpreted in terms of occulting dust clouds, probably representing dense condensations of the planetary nebula. We derived R = AV/EB—V = 4.0.  相似文献

Radio measurements of the electron temperature ofHii regions are obtained from the ratio of the brightness temperature of a hydrogen recombination line to that of the adjacent continuum, while optical measurements are obtained from the ratio of [Oiii] forbidden-line intensities. The radio and optical measurements made under the assumption of an isothermalHii region,T R andT opt respectively, are combined to derive a temperature distribution for an entire nebula. A sphericalHii region in local thermodynamic equilibrium with constant density which is optically thin in both the line and the continuum is used as a model. Assuming linear temperature gradients withT R=6000K andT opt=10000K, it is found thatT=12000K (1–0.74r/R), wherer is the distance from the center andR is the radius of the nebula.  相似文献

The recent evolution of the central star of the planetary nebula LMC-N66 is presented. Before 1987, it showed a weak continuum with aT eff120 000 K andL bol25 000L and in a few years it developed strong WR features (P Cygni line profiles in N v at 124.0 nm and C IV at 155.0 nm, wide Heii emission, etc.) typical of a WN 4.5. Additionally the stellar continuum increased by a large factor and the absolute visual magnitude of the star changed from + 1.24 in 1987 to–2.57 in January, 1995. The WR features and enhanced continuum, evidencing a powerful mass-loss event remained with small variations for more than 5 years. Recent ultraviolet and optical data shows that the mass-loss seems to have diminished abruptly in the last three months.  相似文献

A multi-term trial function technique is developed for studying the dynamic stability of isotropic relativistic star clusters by using the variational principle originated by Ipser and Thorne (1968). The technique is applied ton=4 polytropic clusters, and low-temperature isothermal clusters. These two types of cluster have pronounced core-halo structures and they have both proved difficult to analyse with single-term trial function methods. Then=4 polytropic clusters are proved to be dynamically unstable if their central redshifts are greater thanz c=0.412. This is quite close to the point on their sequence withz c=0.41, where their fractional binding energy peaks. Strong evidence is obtained that all isothermal clusters with no dispersion in the stellar rest mass become dynamically unstable near the region where their fractional binding energy peaks, and that none of these clusters is dynamically stable if their central redshift exceedsz c0.53.  相似文献

The determination of the luminosities of planetary nebula central stars from H nebular fluxes is investigated. A correlation is obtained with the luminosities derived from independent stellar parameters. An average scaling factor is determined for H luminosities of optically thick nebulae, as well as correlations of this parameter with the Zanstra He II and H I temperatures.  相似文献

The present-day Universe is seemingly dominated by dark energy and dark matter, but mapping the normal (baryonic) content remains vital for both astrophysics – understanding how galaxies form – and astro-particle physics – inferring properties of the dark components.The Square Kilometer Array (SKA) will provide the only means of studying the cosmic evolution of neutral hydrogen (HI) which, alongside information on star formation from the radio continuum, is needed to understand how stars formed from gas within dark-matter over-densities and the rôles of gas accretion and galaxy merging.‘All hemisphere’ HI redshift surveys to z 1.5 are feasible with wide-field-of-view realizations of the SKA and, by measuring the galaxy power spectrum in exquisite detail, will allow the first precise studies of the equation-of-state of dark energy. The SKA will be capable of other uniquely powerful cosmological studies including the measurement of the dark-matter power spectrum using weak gravitational lensing, and the precise measurement of H0 using extragalactic water masers.The SKA is likely to become the premier dark-energy-measuring machine, bringing breakthroughs in cosmology beyond those likely to be made possible by combining CMB (e.g. Planck), optical (e.g. LSST, SNAP) and other early-21st-century datasets.  相似文献

By systematically searching regions around planetary nebulae (PNe) for signs of interactions of their precursors’ wind with ambient matter we found a number of huge IRAS dust structures. Some of them may be chance projections, but a few appear to be real, like those around NGC 6826 and NGC 2899. In the case of NGC 6826 we noticed a giant (∼2°) bipolar dust emission, whose axis is along the proper motion of the central star. The PN itself is offset in the direction of motion both as to the center of this ∼30 pc large dust structure and to the center of a similarly large new Hα nebula. NGC 2899 was found in the center of a 14×11 pc quadrupolar cavity, whose directions of axes coincide with the directions of the main axes of the optical PN. In both cases, the formation of these structures appears to have commenced in the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) phase.  相似文献

The very young star cluster IC 5146 is studied using star counts, with a view to determining the distribution of interstellar matter in a region where star formation recently occurred. IC 5146 is embedded in a dark nebula which is very dense near its centre. The total mass of interstellar dust in the nebula is found to be about 4.5M . Comparison of radio and optical observations of the region indicates that gas and dust are not separated to any great degree by radiation from the embedded stars. A gas/dust ratio of about 150/1 by mass is found. This ratio varies with the dust grain model used.  相似文献

We present radio observations of the unique, recently formed, planetary nebula (PN) associated with a very long-period OH/IR variable star V1018 Sco that is unequivocally still in its asymptotic giant branch phase. Two regions within the optical nebula are clearly detected in non-thermal radio continuum emission, with radio spectral indices comparable to those seen in colliding-wind Wolf–Rayet binaries. We suggest that these represent shocked interactions between the hot, fast stellar wind and the cold nebular shell that represents the PN's slow wind moving away from the central star. This same interface produces both synchrotron radio continuum and the optical PN emission. The fast wind is neither spherical in geometry nor aligned with any obvious optical or radio axis. We also report the detection of transient H2O maser emission in this nebula.  相似文献

In the last couple of decades hundreds of studies have explored the nature of star‐forming galaxies at different redshifts. This contribution focuses on X‐shooter observations of star‐burst galaxies at 0 < z < 6 from commissioning runs, science verification, and regular observations, and demonstrates the capability of the new instrument in this competitive field. Observations of gravitationally lensed galaxies show that X‐shooter has no limitation in the redshift desert (1.4 < z < 2) where the strong optical emission lines are shifted to the near‐IR region. Physical properties of galaxies, such as masses, metallicities, abundance ratios, and star formation rates can be derived from observations with relatively short integration times for faint galaxies. The simultaneous UV to near‐IR spectral coverage makes derivation of physical quantities more reliable because there are no differential slit losses as may occur when observations from different optical and near‐IR instruments are used. Over the entire redshift range, spectra of faint galaxies will allow us to better measure stellar ages and dominating ionisation sources compared to broad band spectral energy distribution measurements (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Dependencies of galactic planetary nebula chemical abundances and their central star masses on the distance from the galactic plane are discussed.Z-dependencies of He/H, N/H, N/O and Ar/H and dependencies of He/H, N/H, N/O, Ne/H and Ar/H on central star mass are found. Three galactic planetary nebula distance scale samples are used and it is shown that the distance scale system (where distances of each planetary nebula mass class are determined with the separate scale) is the most reliable. The correlations obtained for the Magellanic Cloud planetary nebulae are used for comparison.  相似文献

Spectral types (M4–M6), effective temperatures T ef (2700–2900 K), and free fall accelerations logg (4.0–4.5) are determined for five M dwarfs using their energy distributions in the spectral range λλ = 680…840 nm. Stellar spectra with resolutions R = 4000 were obtained using the IMACS spectrograph mounted on the ESO Walter Baade 6.5-m telescope. The spectral types are derived from spectral indices and the effective temperatures of the stars are estimated based on their spectral types. Values of T ef and logg are also derived from the comparison between the observed and theoretical energy distributions, calculated both for dust-free, standard NextGen model atmospheres of red dwarfs, and for semiempirical models considering the presence of dust in stellar atmospheres according to the technique developed by Pavlenko et al. We determine dust parameters for stellar atmospheres of these stars, and establish that it is necessary to account for the decrease in concentration of TiO molecules due to their condensation on dust grains, when T ef < 3000 K. We conclude that the radiation scattering by dust grains does not have an appreciable effect on energy distributions in the spectra of the considered stars.  相似文献

In this letter new results about the electron temperaturesT e of the NGC 2024 and IC 434 are given. They were found by the method of the ratioB Hx/B [N u] (Baudel, 1970). Accepting for the exciting stars the spectral types given by Georgelin (1969) our results were found to be in good agreement with Hjellming's (1968) theoretical predictions.  相似文献

An attempt is made to search for a consistent model to explain the electromagnetic spectrum of the Crab nebula (Tau A). It is assumed that there is a continuous injection of electrons at the centre of the nebula with an energy spectrumE –1.54 as evidenced by radio data. This spectrum must steepen to a slope larger than 2 at some energyE i in order to ensure that the energy input into electrons remains finite. The spectrum must also steepen beyond an energyE c depending on the magnetic field because of synchrotron energy losses. Two types of models are considered: Class I, in which the whole nebula is characterised by a uniform magnetic field, and Class II, in which besides the general fieldH 0, small filamentary regions of strong fieldH s are postulated.In models of Class I, the best fit to the observed data is obtained whenE t >E c andH 05×10–4 gauss. However, this predicts a decrease in X-ray source size beyond 40 KeV. There are two possibilities of Class II model depending on the residence time of electrons in strong field regions being small or large. The former case explains the flattening in the optical spectrum.Experiments to distinguish between the various models are indicated.Presented at the International Conference on Cosmic Rays, Budapest, 1969.  相似文献

Ion emission line intensities between 1170 and 1700 Å allow one to determine the differential emission measure (DEM) and electron pressure of the plasma in the solar transition region (TR). These line intensities together with their Doppler shifts and line widths are measured simultaneously for the first time above a sunsport from data obtained with the NRL High Resolution Telescope and Spectrograph with 0.06 Å spectral and 1 spatial resolution.The Doppler shifts show both subsonic and supersonic flow in the same line of sight over the umbra. The temperature structure for 40 resolution elements in the sunspot umbra and penumbra is derived from the DEM and the observed electron pressures.Extrapolation of the emission measure curves supports the previous EUV and X-ray observations that coronal plasma above sunspots with T e>106 K is reduced while emission from TR plasma between 2×105 and 106 K is greatly enhanced relative to quiet or active regions. This enhancement shifts the minimum of the DEM to lower temperatures and increases the slope at 2×105 K by a factor of two.New pressure diagnostics using the emission line intensity ratios of C iv to N iv are presented, and applied to the data.The energy balance in the TR for the sunspot umbra is dominated by radiative losses from the large amount of TR plasma.An estimate of the energy budget shows that an energy input is required to balance the radiative energy losses above the umbra. The observed divergence of the enthalpy flux for the umbral downflows can balance these radiative losses for T e between 30000 and 200 000 K.A typical umbral model of T e versus reduced mass column density is compared with one for chromospheric temperatures determined from the Ca H and K lines.Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics, University of Oslo, Norway.  相似文献
