This study assessed arsenic health risk to the local residents through oral and dermal exposure pathways of drinking water and to investigate source apportionment of groundwater pollutants using multivariate statistical techniques in the Chapai-Nawabganj district, Bangladesh. Groundwater samples collected from shallow tube well and dug well at the depth ranges (15-60 m) were analyzed for physio-chemical parameters and trace elements. Most of the studied physio-chemical parameters were found within their respective permissible limits. However, total As, Fe and Mn concentrations exceeded Bangladesh and WHO guideline values. The assessment of arsenic health risk reveals that children as compared to adults are found at a higher risk as the values of hazard quotients (HQ) >1 in the most of the groundwater samples. This level of arsenic contamination should have medium to high chronic risk and medium carcinogenic risk when compared with US EPA guidelines which can cause serious health hazard. The results of principal component analysis (PCA) and factor analysis (CA) indicate that geogenic (interaction of water and basement rock) and anthropogenic (agrochemicals, agricultural fertilizer and domestic sewage) sources are responsible for variation in arsenic and other physio-chemical parameters in the groundwater aquifer of the study area. Furthermore,the inter-correlation of arsenic with metals and ions were also calculated by correlation matrix and linear regression analysis. The outcomes of this study will help to meet the challenge of sustainable groundwater quality management in Bangladesh and enhancing better vision of potential health risk of local inhabitants in the study area.  相似文献

以广东省揭阳市揭东区表层土壤B、Cu、Mn、Zn、Mo 5种元素为研究对象,在分析微量元素含量状况和分布特征的基础上,从成土母质、土地利用方式、pH值和有机质含量4个方面来分析其对土壤微量元素含量的影响。利用GIS空间分析法、SPSS数理统计法和相关分析法对揭东区土壤微量元素含量、空间分布特征和影响因素进行分析。结果显示:揭东区表层土壤B、Cu、Mn元素的平均含量分别为18.0 mg/kg、14.5 mg/kg、313 mg/kg,含量均处于缺乏水平;Zn元素的平均含量为77.3 mg/kg,总体处于较丰富水平;Mo元素的平均含量为1.31 mg/kg,含量丰富。相关分析表明B、Cu、Mn、Zn、Mo均受到成土母质和土地利用方式的影响,在粉砂岩成土母质区土壤中B和Mn含量最高,凝灰岩成土母质区土壤中Cu和Mo含量最高,Zn在第四纪沉积物中含量最高;比较各种利用方式的土壤,B、Cu在农用地中含量最高,Mn、Zn和Mo在建设用地中含量最高;土壤pH值与B、Cu、Mn、Zn含量呈极显著的正相关关系(P<0.01);土壤有机质与B、Cu、Zn含量呈极显著的正相关关系(P<0.001...  相似文献

A study has been conducted in the heavily populated coastal areas of the Puri district (Odisha, India) with the aim to: (1) identify the factors that influence the major ion composition and concentrations of trace elements in groundwater; (2) determine the spatial distribution of the water-quality parameters and how they vary on a seasonal basis. To do this, groundwater samples were collected from 60 shallow tube wells located along the Puri coast during the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons. Based on their TDS content, 52% of the collected groundwater samples were identified as being brackish-to-saline and unsuitable for drinking purposes in both the pre- and post-monsoon seasons. Significant concentrations of trace elements including Ba, Br, F, Fe, Mn, and Sr were detected in most of the samples. Iron concentrations were found to be higher than the WHO drinking water guideline value (0.3 mg/l) in 92% of the samples irrespective of seasons. Elevated Mn concentrations were observed in 37% and 40% of samples during the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons, respectively. In addition, fluoride concentrations in excess of the WHO limit (1.5 mg/l) were found in 15% of samples during the pre-monsoon and 23% of samples during the post-monsoon season. The concentrations of major and trace elements show wide spatial and minor temporal variations. Large spatial and limited temporal variations in Cl and Na concentrations along with considerable Br and Sr concentrations in groundwater suggest that saltwater intrusion is the dominant process controlling groundwater quality in the study area, although other processes including ion exchange, the precipitation and dissolution of minerals, microbial activity, and the weathering of aquifer material also play roles to some extent in determining the spatial and seasonal distribution of the major and trace elements in coastal groundwater. Grouping of various water-quality parameters related to these processes by principal component analysis and their linking to one cluster in the hierarchical cluster analysis further supports the view that these processes control the groundwater chemistry in the coastal aquifer.  相似文献

The concentrations of trace elements in groundwater and seawater were measured in a coastal embayment (Bangdu Bay) of a volcanic island (Jeju) off the southernmost coast of Korea in August and December of 2009. The concentrations of trace elements (Al, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu) in the groundwater in summer were approximately 20-fold higher than those in winter, with good correlation to each other. Overall, the concentrations of most of the trace elements in the groundwater were 3- to 70-fold higher than those in the seawater of this Bay. Simple budget calculations showed that large fluxes of submarine groundwater discharge (SGD)-driven trace elements were responsible for the unusually enhanced concentrations of trace elements (particularly for Al, Fe and Co) in the summer seawater. The results imply that the temporal changes in SGD-driven trace element fluxes are large and may contribute considerably to the budget of trace elements in the coastal ocean, particularly off a highly permeable volcanic island.  相似文献

A monthly trace element sampling of the lower Mississippi River, utilizing ultra-clean methods, was conducted from October 1991 to December 1993. Dissolved concentrations were determined for Fe, Mn, Zn, Ph, V, Mo, U, Cu, Ni, Cd, Rb, and Ba. The results show significant seasonal dissolved concentration changes for a number of elements. Specifically, dissolved Mn and Fe are found to increase rapidly in the fall and then decrease in the spring. Zn and Pb follow a similar seasonal trend, though with lower percentage concentration changes. V, Mo, and U follow an opposite seasonal trend to Mn and Fe. The data do not allow a complete determination of the causes of this variability. However, changes in the adsorption process do not appear to play an important role. Hydrologic factors are also of minimal importance for most elements, with the probable exception of Ba and U. I suggest here that redox processes, occurring both in-stream and in source regions, play an important role in determining seasonal variations in dissolved trace elements.No evidence was found of significant dissolved trace element concentration changes over the past decade and interannual variability in mean concentrations was generally small. The time series also encompassed a period of extreme flooding in the U.S. Midwest. However, the flooding did not significantly influence dissolved trace element concentrations in the lower Mississippi River.  相似文献

以吉林省小石人金矿区内不同类型岩(矿)石微量元素测试结果为基础,从数据结构和空间结构两方面,对微量元素的地球化学特征进行探讨。统计参数表明:所观测元素在矿区内具有明显的浓集、富集特点,在不同类型岩(矿)石中元素的分布分配也不尽相同。依据分布分配特点,可将矿区内的岩(矿)石分为正常岩石、弱蚀变岩石和强蚀变/矿化岩石3类。多元统计分析成果揭示:所观测元素都参与了金的成矿活动,但行为特点有所差异。依据多元统计特征,可将微量元素分为3个组合类型:Au、As、Sb、Bi、Hg、Mn,Cu、Pb、Zn、Ag,Co、Ni、V;第一组合为成矿成晕组合,第二组合为金的多金属矿化组合,第三组合为黄铁矿化蚀变组合;元素组合也对应于不同的矿化阶段,指示金的成矿活动及特征。土壤、岩石地化剖面显示所观测的元素间存在空间相关性,但Mn与Au相异,其异常出现在矿化蚀变带的外侧。  相似文献

Mn, Sr, Ba, Rb, Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd concentrations have been measured seasonally in the water and deposited sediments of the system comprising: Zala river (main input) — Lakes Kis-Balaton 1 and 2 (small artificial lakes created in a former bay of Lake Balaton) — Keszthely bay (hypertrophic part of Lake Balaton). The concentrations of the trace elements together with pH, alkalinity, dissolved cations (Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, and K+), dissolved inorganic ligands (Cl, SO4 2–), particulate Al, Ca, inorganic and organic carbon are used to assess the contamination of the study area and biogeochemical processes controlling trace element concentrations. Thermodynamic speciation calculations have also been utilized to enhance our understanding of the system. In the sediments Rb, Ba, Cu and Zn concentrations were mainly controlled by the abundance of the aluminosilicate fraction. Strontium was mainly associated with the calcium carbonate fraction. The aluminosilicate fraction constitutes a major sink for Mn and Cd but the concentration of these elements are also strongly related to calcite precipitation. The main processes that control the dissolved distribution of trace elements in the Balaton system were: solid phase formation (carbonate) for Mn; coprecipitation with calcite for Sr, Ba, Rb and possibly Mn and Cd; adsorption/desorption processes (pH dependent) for Zn and Pb; solubilization of Mn and precipitation of Cd and Cu in reed covered wetland areas where anoxic conditions were probably existing during the warm season. A preliminary budget of atmospheric and river input to Lake Balaton has also been outlined. Although Lake Balaton, is subjected to anthropogenic inputs mainly from agricultural and domestic activities, their impact on trace element concentrations in the Balaton system is very limited due to the efficiency of removal processes (i.e. adsorption and co-precipitation) and to high sedimentation rates and strong sediment re-suspension. A large database of dissolved-fraction groundwater concentrations for Ag, As, Ba, Be, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, Sb, Se, Tl, Sn, V and Zn was constructed using public domain data. Data analysis techniques for multiply-censored sample populations were used to extract salient information regarding sample populations from the raw data. The results of this work show that trace element concentrations are approximately log-normally distributed. Median values for <90% censored sample populations range from 0.2 to 35 μg l−1. Minimum to maximum concentrations range as high as 7 orders of magnitude for certain elements (e.g. Zn). This work provides a rapid, cost-effective screening tool for evaluating groundwater quality based on observed trace element concentration data.  相似文献

在采用ICP-AES对张集7个煤层144个样品微量元素含量测试分析的基础上,探讨了元素在不同煤层中的变化规律及其在煤层对比中的应用。结果表明:张集矿区煤中元素B、Se和As含量偏高;不同煤层中微量元素含量变化较大,但具有一定的规律性,其中在9煤层中元素Ba和Cr含量最低,Mn、Zn、As和Se含量相对较高,可以利用这些元素分布特征来区别和划分相邻煤层。  相似文献

 Sediment and its associated pore water were collected from a zoned, freshwater, riparian wetland, located in the Talladega National Forest, northeastern Hale County, Alabama, to study the porewater chemistry and its spatial changes within and between the wetland ecological zones. Obvious changes in pH, Eh and element concentrations were observed between the different wetland ecological zones. Major cations (Ca, Mg, and Na) and trace elements (B, Ba, Sr, and Mn) have very good spatial correlation with Fe and Mn distributions, both in the pore water and the sediment, suggesting that adsorption on, and desorption from, iron and manganese oxyhydroxides are important processes controlling the distributions of these elements in the wetland sediment. However, an equilibrium adsorption model is not able to explain the distribution of trace elements between the pore water and sediment. A redox kinetic model gives similar vertical profiles for iron and the correlated elements as those measured in the field and thus suggests that the relative rates of ferrous iron oxidation and the reductive dissolution of ferric iron in the sediment are important variables determining the distributions of these elements in the wetland pore waters. The origin of groundwater discharging via evapotranspiration and from springs within Oasis Valley, Nevada, is of concern owing to the close proximity of the Nevada Test Site (NTS) and the possible contamination of groundwater as a result of underground nuclear testing. Principal components analysis, cluster analysis, and population partitioning, along with a Geographical Information System, were used to decipher groundwater flow patterns in Oasis Valley, Nevada. These multivariate statistical techniques were applied to the trace element chemistry of groundwater samples collected from 26 springs and wells within Oasis Valley, the NTS, and the Nellis Air Force Range. The results of all statistical analyses showed similar geographical trends in the trace element chemistry of the groundwaters included in this study. Differences are observed between the groundwaters from the NTS and those of Oasis Valley based on the concentrations of the elements Li, Ge, Mo, Rb, Ba, U, and Ru. A concentration gradient is observed from lower concentrations in the NTS to increasing concentrations toward Oasis Valley suggesting groundwater flow in an overall southwestward direction from the NTS. Also, a different trace element signature is observed for the waters collected in the northern and western region of Oasis Valley, suggesting another source of groundwater to this area.  相似文献

The spatial distribution of Cu and its pathfinder elements in quartz porphyrites along Wadi Araba was studied in order to gain an insight about the geologic framework of Cu mineralization in the area. A geochemical exploration data set of 242 samples was revisited. Multivariate statistical and geostatistical analysis were performed on the data set. The objectives of the study were to define Cu relationships with its possible pathfinder elements and to figure out whether geostatistical treatment of exploration data would help telescoping already existing Cu mineralization in Wadi Araba, SW Jordan. Factor analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis were performed on the data set. The results of which indicate that seven elements, namely, Ba, Cr, Mn, Ni, Sc, Sr and V can be considered as pathfinder elements for Cu. Significant correlations do exist between Cu and these elements. The encountered experimental semivariograms of the defined pathfinders were fit to exponential models with varying nugget effects with the exception of Mn which was fit to the spherical model. Ordinary kriging was found to be most appropriate to generate geochemical exploration maps. The applied methods succeeded in deriving valuable information and visualizing the already existing Cu mineralization in Wadi Abu Khusheiba area.  相似文献

Sixty-eight groundwater samples from the Ganges-Brahmaputra floodplain in the Bengal Basin were analyzed to assess the groundwater geochemistry, the subsurface hydrology, the buffering effects of sediments on trace metal concentrations and their isotopic compositions, and the magnitude of the subsurface trace element flux to the Bay of Bengal and to the global ocean. Samples obtained from depths of 10 to 350 m were measured for major and trace elements, dissolved gas, and tritium. On the basis of the 3He/3H ages, the groundwater at depth (30-150 m) appears to be continually replenished, indicating that this recharge of groundwater to depth must ultimately be balanced by a significant quantity of submarine discharge into the Bay of Bengal. Using the 3He/3H groundwater age-depth relationship to calculate a recharge rate of 60 ± 20 cm/yr, we estimate a subsurface discharge into the Bay of Bengal of 1.5 ± 0.5 × 1011 m3/yr, or 15% of the surface Ganges-Brahmaputra river (GBR) flux. Several trace elements, especially Sr and Ba, display elevated concentrations averaging 7 to 9 times the surface GBR water values. The submarine groundwater fluxes of Sr and Ba to the oceans are 8.2 ± 2 × 108 and 1.5 ± 0.3 × 108 mol/yr, or 3.3 and 1.2%, respectively, of the world total, or equal to the surface GBR Sr and Ba estimated fluxes. Our groundwater flux for Ba agrees with the estimate of Moore (1997) (3 × 108-3 × 109 mol/yr), on the basis of measured Ba and Ra excesses in the Bay of Bengal. Other trace metals, such as U and Mo, are at low but measurable levels and are not major contributors to the global flux in this river system. A comparison of the Sr and Ba concentrations, plus 87Sr/86Sr ratios in groundwater to the oxalate extractable fractions of a coastal sediment core, suggests that weathering of carbonates and minor silicates, coupled with cation exchange plus adsorption and desorption reactions, controls the trace element concentrations and 87Sr/86Sr isotopic compositions in both the groundwater and river water. Our data also imply that other coastal floodplains (e.g., the Mekong and the Irrawaddy rivers) that have high precipitation rates and rapid accumulation of immature sediments are likely to make significant contributions to the global oceanic trace metal budgets and have an impact on the Sr isotopic evolution in seawater.  相似文献

We report new data on the trace element concentrations of Mg, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Sr, Cd, Ba, La, Ce, Nd, Pb and U in USGS carbonate reference materials (MACS-1 and MACS-2) and compare solution ICP-MS and LA-ICP-MS trace element determinations on landfill calcites using calibration to different reference materials (MACS-1 and MACS-2 carbonate and NIST SRM 612 glass). Very good agreement (differences below 10% relative) was found between laser ablation and solution ICP-MS data for MACS-1 with higher concentrations of trace elements (values between 100 and 150 μg g−1), with the exception of Cu and Zn. Similarly good agreement was found for MACS-2 with lower trace element concentrations (units to tens of μg g−1), with the exception of Cr, Co and Zn. The MACS-1 reference material for calibration of LA-ICP-MS was found to be extremely useful for in situ determination of trace elements in real-world carbonate samples (landfill calcites), especially those present in calcite in higher concentrations (Mn, Sr, Ba; < 5% RSD). Less accurate determinations were generally obtained for trace elements present at low concentrations (∼ units of μg g−1). In addition, good agreement was observed between the instrument calibration to MACS and NIST SRM 612 glass for in situ measurements of trace elements in landfill calcites K-2, K-3 and K-4 (differences below 15% relative for most elements). Thus, the application of MACS carbonate reference materials is promising and points to the need for the development of new carbonate reference materials for laser ablation ICP-MS.  相似文献

The elemental composition of high temperature ash (750°C) and forms of S were studied in 25 coal seams from the Escucha Formation (Middle Albian) in the Teruel Mining District, northeast Spain. The principal analytical method was ICP-MS, but ICP-ES was also used in the determination of some trace elements. The analytical data show wide ranges of trace element cotnents among the coal seams studied, even in the vertical profile of a single coal seam. These wide ranges of the trace element concentrations are attributed to both syngenetic and epigenetic processes.When a comparison was made between the average trace element contents of the Teruel Mining District coals, and those of the average content in worldwide coals, the Teruel coals show slightly higher concentrations of Be and U, and lower concentrations of Ba, Cd, Mn, Pb, Sr and Zr. Further, three main groups of trace elements were differentiated on the basis of the inorganic/organic association: (1) trace elements with inorganic affinity; Ba, Ce, Co, Cr, La, Mn, Ni, Rb and Zr. Between these, Ba, Ce, Cr and Rb show a well defined correlation with the clay mineral content, and Co and Ni with pyritic-S content; (2) trace elements with an intermediate (mixed) affinity; As, Cd, Cu, Dy, Er, Eu, Gd, Ge, Ho, Lu, Mo, Nd, Pb, Pr, Sb, Sm, Sr, Tb, Th, Tm, U, Yb and Zn. In this group, As, Cd, Cu, Ge, Mo, Th, U and Zn show a weak trend associated with the mineral matter and Sr with the organic matter; and (3) Be shows an organic affinity. The high mineral matter content (21.3% HTA) of the Teruel coals may account for the great number of elements with inorganic affinity. This classification represents a general trend, but the results show that the affinities of some trace elements (e.g. As, Sb and Zn) may vary from one coal seam to another in the Teruel Mining District.  相似文献

采用同步辐射微区X射线荧光光谱技术,探测古铜色日本马氏贝珍珠剖面(珠核与珍珠层)的元素分布。测试结果表明,样品中主要含有Ca、Sr、Ba等3种碱土金属元素,Mn、Fe、Cu、Zn等4种3d过渡金属元素以及稀土元素,各元素在珍珠中表现出一定的空间分布规律:珠核表面稀土元素浓度最高,珍珠层和珠核的稀土元素浓度大致相当;Mn和Fe元素浓度自珠核浅表层向珠核表面有降低趋势;珍珠层内Mn和Fe元素浓度都出现大幅降低现象,且是在相同的圈层降低,显示其具有一定正相关性,推测二者大幅降低的圈层是平行层和棱柱层的分界,且Mn元素主要赋存于棱柱层;Ca与Sr、Ba元素的分布具有负相关性。  相似文献

In the intertidal flats of Bohai Bay, China, the spatial distribution of the grain size of sediments becomes coarser from landward to seaward. To study the grain size effect on multi-element concentrations in sediments, samples along the coastline and 3 horizontal cross-sections were collected from the intertidal flats of Bohai Bay, China, in 1998. Total concentrations of 49 elements, including alkali, alkaline earth, trace metal, rare and rare earth elements, were measured by ICP–AES, ICP–MS and INAA. The results show that sediment texture plays a controlling role on the concentrations and their spatial distribution. Principal component analysis and cluster analysis were carried out based on the grain sizes of the sediments, and the samples were classified into 3 groups: mud, silt-mud and silt. Significant differences among the element concentrations in the 3 groups were observed, and the concentrations of the elements in each group are reported in this study. Most of the elements have their highest concentrations in the fine grained mud samples, in comparison with the silt and silt-mud samples, with clay minerals possibly playing an important role. In contrast, concentrations of Ba, Sr, Hf, and Zr are elevated in the coarse silt samples. Ba and Sr may reside in feldspars, while Zr and Hf are present in zircons. Landward to seaward spatial variation of element concentrations in the sediments is observed, which is in line with the spatial distribution of the grain size and is related to the seawater hydrological dynamics in the intertidal flats.  相似文献

The concentrations of 23 trace elements in 50 topsoil samples collected from sites ranging between 18°19′N and 49°13′N in East China were analyzed. Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, and Ta have mean contents more than two times higher than in the continental upper crust. Three elements, Rb, Sr, and Ba, are present at lower concentrations than in the continental upper crust. Finally, a group of elements consisting of Ge, Y, Zr, Nb, Sc, Hf, Pb, Th, and U are present at concentrations 1–2 times higher than in the continental upper crust. However, concentrations of trace elements are mainly affected by parent rock. The contents of Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Co, and Cu for 29 soils from basalt were found to increase from north to south, whereas Rb, Sr, and Ba contents were found to decrease. In addition, element concentration shows a close relationship with annual average temperature (AAT) as well as annual average precipitation (AAP). Since the 29 soils are all from basalt, the trends of the elemental contents should reflect the influence of climate, which determines the intensity of weathering. These elemental trends suggest that the content of certain elements may indicate the intensity of basalt weathering. Ba/Nb and Sr/Nb ratios were both found to have good correlations with AAT and AAP in this study, which means that these ratios can also indicate the intensity of chemical weathering of basalt.  相似文献

Carbonatites, metasomatised country rocks, and carbonatitic calcite and magnetite have been analysed from two carbonatite complexes, Homa and Wasaki, W. Kenya.The carbonatites are all greatly Ce-earth enriched, contain abundant ‘carbonatitic’ trace elements (Sr, Ba, Nb and REE), and generally low concentrations of Cr, Co, Ni, Pb, Ga, Ge, Sn, Bi, Li and Mo. At both complexes early søvite is rich in Sr, and impoverished in other trace elements relative to the alvikites. The late-intruded melacarbonatites contain the greatest concentrations of Ba, REE, Fe and Mn.It is concluded that the accumulation of these elements in the later carbonatites is mainly due to fractionation of carbonates from carbonatite magma which was initially rich in ‘carbonatitic’ trace elements.  相似文献
