Tree rings from temperature-limited environments are highly sensitive climate proxies, widely used to reconstruct past climate parameters for periods prior to the availability of instrumental data and to analyse the effect of recent global warming on tree growth. An analysis of the climatic signal in five high-elevation tree-ring width chronologies of European larch (Larix decidua Mill.) from the tops of five different glacial valleys in the Italian Central Alps revealed that they contain a strong summer-temperature signal and that tree-ring growth is especially influenced by June temperatures. However, a moving correlation function analysis revealed a recent loss of the June temperature signal in the tree-ring chronologies. This signal reduction primarily involves the two lowest-altitude chronologies. It is probable that the observed increasing importance of late-summer temperature for tree-ring growth over the past 50 yr is an effect of the lengthening growing season and of the variations in the climate/tree-ring relationship over time. All the chronologies considered, especially those at the highest altitudes, show an increasing negative influence of June precipitation on tree-ring growth. The climatic signal recorded in tree-ring chronologies from the Italian Central Alps varies over time and is also differentially influenced by climatic parameters according to site elevation.  相似文献

通过胡杨树轮宽度的分析,建立了内蒙古额济纳地区过去233年来的STD,RES和ARS年表;并将树轮STD年表与采样点附近额济纳气象站的气温、降雨量以及狼心山水文站的地下水水位等记录进行了相关分析。结果表明,在额济纳地区显著影响该地胡杨生长的主要限制因子是地下水水位。胡杨树轮宽度年表与冬季及全年地下水水位相关性最高,分别为-0.808(p<0.01)和-0.724(p<0.05)。在此基础上,设计转换方程,重建了额济纳地区过去232年来冬季及全年地下水水位变化历史,冬季地下水水位重建方程的解释方差达76.3 % (调整自由度后为70.4 % ,n=11,r=0.874,F=12.881,p<0.003),全年地下水水位重建方程的解释方差为72.8 % (调整自由度后为66.1 % ,n=11, r=0.854,F=10.731,p<0.005)。  相似文献

Dendrogeomorphic research has long relied on scarred trees to reconstruct the frequency of mass‐movement processes. Injuries have mostly been dated macroscopically by counting the tree rings formed after wounding. Tree‐ring anatomical anomalies induced by cambial injury, in contrast, have only recently been recognized as proxy records of past events. We investigated 12 sub‐arctic downy birch (Betula pubescens Ehrh.) trees scarred by snow avalanches in Norway and Iceland. Earlywood vessel lumina were measured for each tree in the xylem tissue bordering the scars. Seven successive rings were examined, namely two control rings laid down prior to wounding and five rings in the wound xylem. We provide evidence that snow‐avalanche‐induced wounding resulted in atypically narrow earlywood vessels over at least two years. Our data demonstrate that wound‐associated vessel anomalies represent tangible markers of mass‐movement processes, and as such make a viable tool for reconstructing past events. Similar dendrogeomorphic studies based on tree‐ring anatomy can be readily conducted with other mass‐movement processes, as well as with other broad‐leaved tree species. Ultimately, this new approach will foster increment coring over more invasive sampling techniques.  相似文献

Late Holocene temperature fluctuations on the Tibetan Plateau   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Proxy data of palaeoclimate, like ice cores, tree rings and lake sediments, document aspects of climate changes on the Tibetan Plateau during the last 2000 years. The results show that the Tibetan Plateau experienced climatic episodes such as the warm intervals during AD 800–1100 and 1150–1400, the “Little Ice Age” between AD 1400 and 1900, and an earlier cold period between the 4th and 6th centuries. In addition, temperatures varied from region to region across the plateau. A warm period from AD 800 to 1100 in the northeastern Tibetan Plateau was contemporaneous with cooling in the southern Tibetan Plateau, which experienced warming between AD 1150 and 1400. Large-scale trends in the temperature history from the northeastern Tibetan Plateau resemble those in eastern China more than the trends from the southern Plateau. The most notable similarities between the temperature variations of the Tibetan Plateau and eastern China are cold phases during AD 1100–1150, 1500–1550, 1650–1700 and 1800–1850.  相似文献

依据冰芯、树轮、沉积物分析和冰川波动等各单点古气候代用资料,以及重建的综合温度变化曲线,分析了近 2000年青藏高原温度变化的整体性和区域性特征。全青藏高原综合温度曲线显示中世纪暖期(1150-1400年)、小冰期(1400-1900年)以及公元 3~5世纪冷期的存在。青藏高原温度变化具有明显的区域性特征。在 9~11世纪,青藏高原东北部以温暖为特征,而青藏高原南部和西部表现为寒冷。青藏高原南部和西部分别于1150-1400年(此时段在高原东北部表现为弱暖期)和1250-1500年经历了气候变暖。与中国东部文献记录的最新综合研究结果比较,高原东北部与中国东部的温度变化最为一致。而且,许多重大气候事件,如1100-1150年、1500-1550年、1650-1700年和1800-1850年的冷事件在高原和中国东部同时出现,而后 3次冷期与小冰期期间中国西部发生的冰川前进相匹配。  相似文献

Variations in climate since 1602 as reconstructed from tree rings   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Spatial anomalies of tree-ring chronologies can provide information on high-frequency spatial anomalies in paleoclimate representing droughts, colder-than-normal intervals, and other synoptic-scale features. Examples are presented in which 65 tree-ring chronologies are calibrated with spatial anomalies in North American meteorological records of seasonal temperature and precipitation, and with sea-level pressure over the North American and North Pacific sectors. Multivariate transfer functions are obtained that scale and convert the past spatial variations in the tree-ring record into estimates of past variations in the meteorological record. Objective verifications of the reconstructions are obtained using independent meteorological observations for time periods other than those used in the calibration. Historical information or other proxy data from the 19th century are also used for verifying the decadal (or longer) and regional reconstructions and for identifying strengths and weaknesses of the various sources of information. The reconstructed winter and summer temperatures for the United States and southwestern Canada and winter precipitation for the Columbia Basin and California during the 17th through 19th centuries were found to differ from the 20th century means with large-scale variations evident. Extreme winters similar to 1976–1977 are also identified and found to be more frequent in the past, especially in the 17th century. The climatic reconstructions in this time domain are dominated by high-frequency, synoptic-scale fluctuations that can be interpreted as cyclonic-scale changes in atmospheric circulation. Such reconstructions may be useful for testing various climatic models and estimates developed primarily from 20th-century meteorological data against the longer estimated record for the 17th through 19th centuries.  相似文献

建立了新疆阿勒泰地区一个长约450a的落叶松树轮碳同位素年表.该年表一个最为明显的特点是1850年后年轮δ13C显著降低,这是化石燃料燃烧和土地利用方式改变的缘故.在1550—1850年期间,该年表经历了明显的距平“正负”(即暖冷)变化:17世纪年轮δ13C值相对偏负,气温较低,18世纪年轮δ13C值相对偏正,温度较高.根据已有的树轮δ13C温度系数,17世纪的温度相对偏低约0.67~2.46℃.广泛的区域性对比表明,该年表所揭示的小冰期温度变化具有较高的可信度。  相似文献

青藏高原的环境变化对全球变化具有敏感响应和强烈影响。青藏高原的现代环境与地表过程相互作用,引起包括冰冻圈和水资源以及生态系统等方面的一系列变化,对高原本身以及周边地区的人类生存环境和经济社会发展产生重大影响。作为国际研究的热点地区,青藏高原环境变化研究目前出现三个新的科学动向:关注关键地区的关键科学问题的系统研究;关注以现代地表过程为核心的监测研究;关注全球变化影响下的圈层相互作用研究。本项目的研究对青藏高原环境变化科学的发展、国际科学前沿的贡献以及服务于社会经济发展,都具有十分重要的意义。通过项目的研究将揭示青藏高原隆升到现代地貌与环境格局过程中所出现的重大构造事件和环境事件;重建不同区域、不同时间尺度的气候环境变化序列并揭示其时空分布特征;阐明青藏高原冰冻圈、湖泊和主要生态系统与土地覆被在不同气候条件下的变化特征;揭示青藏高原环境变化与地表过程对全球变化的响应特点和高原热力与动力过程对不同气候系统变化的影响。本项目将在高原南北典型区域利用地貌学与沉积学手段,研究青藏高原现代地貌与环境格局的形成过程;利用湖芯、冰芯、树木年轮等手段,研究青藏高原过去环境变化的特征事件、区域分异及其与全球变化的联系;利用冰川、冻土、积雪的时空变化,结合对高原特殊大气边界层的观测,研究青藏高原冰冻圈变化与能量水分循环过程;从冰川、湖泊、大气的监测入手,结合模式方法,研究青藏高原环境变化的机制;利用生态系统碳的源—汇变化,研究青藏高原生态系统对环境变化的响应;综合研究全球变化背景下青藏高原环境变化与水资源变化所产生的区域效应和适应对策。  相似文献

The total carbon content analysis for Takashima-oki core extracted from Lake Biwa with time resolutions of approximately 150 years was used to reconstruct millennial-scale climate change in the East Asian monsoon region over the past 300 ka. The total carbon content of the Takashima-oki core is an indirect proxy for the East Asian summer monsoon, because the total carbon content reflects primary productivity within the lake, which is controlled by precipitation in the catchment area. Using these data, we clarify temporal variations in the East Asian summer monsoon prior to MIS 5, which were previously unresolved. The observed variations show a ∼1,500-year cycle that is also recorded by paleoclimate indices in the North Atlantic region. We propose that the East Asian summer monsoon underwent abrupt millennium-scale changes during interglacial stages such as MIS 5 and 7.  相似文献

The northernmost conifers in the world are located well above the Arctic Circle in the Taymir region of northern Siberia and have been recording the thermal environment for centuries to millennia. The trees respond to temperatures beyond the narrow season of actual cambial cell division by means of root growth, photosynthesis, lignification of cell walls, and other biochemical processes. Data from annual tree-ring widths are used to reconstruct May–September mean temperatures for the past four centuries. These warm-season temperatures correlate with annual temperatures and indicate unusual warming in the 20th century. However, there is a loss of thermal response in ring widths since about 1970. Previously the warmer temperatures induced wider rings. Most major warming and cooling trends are in agreement with other high-latitude temperature reconstructions based on tree-ring analyses with some regional differences in timing of cooling in the late 18th century and of warming in the late 19th century.  相似文献

To reconstruct trace metal contamination history in the Yangtze River Delta region, annual growth rings of native hardwood species, Kalopanax septemlobus, were studied as the potential archive of the past Pb and Zn pollution events. Wide distribution of K. septemlobus trees in the study area and clear annual tree rings are advantages of this potential geochemical archive. In this research, tree ring increments for 48 years, from 1960 to 2007, were analyzed for Pb and Zn concentrations. Trees were sampled in two sites, Xiaoyingpan, a contaminated area around a mine (Pb, Zn, Ag) in the Yangtze River Delta region, and a reference site 19 km away. The results show that: (1) distinct Pb and Zn concentrations increasing from 1960 to 1974 in the polluted site were coincident with increasing historical open mining activities; (2) from 1974 to 1986, Pb and Zn concentrations dramatically decreased during a conversion from above-ground exploitation to below-ground extraction; and (3) after 1992, the concentration of Zn decreased gradually, but Pb concentrations initially increased with automobile traffic from 1986 to 2004, then decreased when the number of automobiles was controlled from 2004 to 2007. In particular, Pb and Zn concentrations in tree rings had no effect on K. septemlobus growth. Pb and Zn concentrations in tree rings were linearly related with those in soils. Growth rings of K. septemlobus around the Pb, Zn, Ag mine accurately recorded historical changes in Pb and Zn deposition.  相似文献

Holocene climatic variations—Their pattern and possible cause   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In the northeastern St. Elias Mountains in southern Yukon Territory and Alaska, C14-dated fluctuations of 14 glacier termini show two major intervals of Holocene glacier expansion, the older dating from 3300-2400 calendar yr BP and the younger corresponding to the Little Ice Age of the last several centuries. Both were about equivalent in magnitude. In addition, a less-extensive and short-lived advance occurred about 1250-1050 calendar yr BP (A.D. 700–900). Conversely, glacier recession, commonly accompanied by rise in altitude of spruce tree line, occurred 5975–6175, 4030-3300, 2400-1250, and 1050-460 calendar yr BP, and from A.D. 1920 to the present. Examination of worldwide Holocene glacier fluctuations reinforces this scheme and points to a third major interval of glacier advances about 5800-4900 calendar yrs BP; this interval generally was less intense than the two younger major intervals. Finally, detailed mapping and dating of Holocene moraines fronting 40 glaciers in the Kebnekaise and Sarek Mountains in Swedish Lapland reveals again that the Holocene was punctuated by repeated intervals of glacier expansion that correspond to those found in the St. Elias Mountains and elsewhere. The two youngest intervals, which occurred during the Little Ice Age and again about 2300–3000 calendar yrs BP, were approximately equal in intensity. Advances of the two older intervals, which occurred approximately 5000 and 8000 calendar yr BP, were generally less extensive. Minor glacier fluctuations were superimposed on all four broad expansion intervals; those of the Little Ice Age culminated about A.D. 1500–1640, 1710, 1780, 1850, 1890, and 1916. In the mountains of Swedish Lapland, Holocene mean summer temperature rarely, if ever, was lower than 1°C below the 1931–1960 summer mean and varied by less than 3.5°C over the last two broad intervals of Holocene glacial expansion and contraction.Viewed as a whole, therefore, the Holocene experienced alternating intervals of glacier expansion and contraction that probably were superimposed on the broad climatic trends recognized in pollen profiles and deep-sea cores. Expansion intervals lasted up to 900 yr and contraction intervals up to 1750 yr. Dates of glacial maxima indicate that the major Holocene intervals of expansion peaked at about 200–330, 2800, and 5300 calendar yr BP, suggesting a recurrence of major glacier activity about each 2500 yr. If projected further into the past, this Holocene pattern predicts that alternating glacier expansion-contraction intervals should have been superimposed on the Late-Wisconsin glaciation, with glacier readvances peaking about 7800, 10,300, 12,800, and 15,300 calendar yr BP. These major readvances should have been separated by intervals of general recession, some of which might have been punctuated by short-lived advances. Furthermore, the time scales of Holocene events and their Late-Wisconsin analogues should be comparable. Considering possible errors in C14 dating, this extended Holocene scheme agrees reasonably well with the chronology and magnitude of such Late-Wisconsin events as the Cochrane-Cockburn readvance (8000–8200 C14 yr BP), the Pre-Boreal interstadial, the Fennoscandian readvances during the Younger Dryas stadial (10,850-10,050 varve yr BP), the Alleröd interstadial (11,800-10,900 C14 yr BP), the Port Huron readvance (12,700–13,000 C14 yr BP), the Cary/Port Huron interstadial (centered about 13,300 C14 yr BP), and the Cary stadial (14,000–15,000 C14 yr BP). Moreover, comparison of presumed analogues such as the Little Ice Age and the Younger Dryas, or the Alleröd and the Roman Empire-Middle Ages warm interval, show marked similarities. These results suggest that a recurring pattern of minor climatic variations, with a dominant overprint of cold intervals peaking about each 2500 yr, was superimposed on long-term Holocene and Late-Wisconsin climatic trends. Should this pattern continue to repeat itself, the Little Ice Age will be succeeded within the next few centuries by a long interval of milder climates similar to those of the Roman Empire and Middle Ages.Short-term atmospheric C14 variations measured from tree rings correlate closely with Holocene glacier and tree-line fluctuations during the last 7000 yr. Such a correspondence, firstly, suggests that the record of short-term C14 variations may be an empirical indicator of paleoclimates and, secondly, points to a possible cause of Holocene climatic variations. The most prominent explanation of short-term C14 variations involves modulation of the galactic cosmic-ray flux by varying solar corpuscular activity. If this explanation proves valid and if the solar constant can be shown to vary with corpuscular output, it would suggest that Holocene glacier and climatic fluctuations, because of their close correlation with short-term C14 variations, were caused by varying solar activity. By extension, this would imply a similar cause for Late-Wisconsin climatic fluctuations such as the Alleröd and Younger Dryas.  相似文献

依据青藏高原目前所取得冰芯的尘埃分析结果,初步分析了近1000年来青藏高原南北大气尘埃载荷的时空变化特征。研究表明,高原南部达索普冰芯记录的高尘埃含量时期为1270s~1380s和1870s~1990s,而北部马兰冰芯记录的高尘埃含量时期为1130s~1550s和1770s~1940s。近1000年来青藏高原南北冰芯中尘埃含量呈现不同程度的增加总趋势,这可能指示了环境的变干趋势。青藏高原冰芯记录还反映出,高原北部地区大气中的尘埃载荷明显高于南部地区;高原北部地区大气尘埃载荷春季最大,而南部地区非季风季节最大。另外,通过对高原南北冰芯中尘埃含量记录与δ18 O记录之间相关关系分析,揭示出大气尘埃载荷变化与气温变化之间关系在高原北部地区呈显著负相关,而在南部地区却呈显著正相关。这说明青藏高原南北气候环境变化的差异性。  相似文献

树轮地貌学以其定年准确、分辨率高和时间跨度长等特点在地表过程的研究中具有极其重要的作用。树木年轮可以作为一个可靠的工具来获得滑坡过去活动的历史证据,进而解释现在正在发生的并窥探滑坡的变形信息。本文对国内外树轮地貌学方法在滑坡事件研究中的现状和取得的成果进行总结,重点阐释了树轮地貌学的原理和树轮地貌学重建滑坡活动迹象与时空分布的研究进展,并讨论了该方法存在的不足,展望了我国利用树轮地貌学开展滑坡事件研究的前景。  相似文献
