Perforated plates, relevant for several marine applications, are experimentally and numerically investigated. The numerical investigations are performed using a presently developed Navier–Stokes solver. Several comparison and sensitivity studies are presented, in order to validate and verify the solver. Forced heave experiments are performed on two perforated plates with perforation ratios 19% and 28%. Amplitude-dependent added mass and damping coefficients are presented. Good agreement is obtained between the solver and the present experiments. Consistent with existing data, the results show that the hydrodynamic coefficients of perforated plates are highly amplitude dependent. The damping force is found to dominate over added mass force. The damping force dominance increases with increasing perforation ratio. It is highlighted that plate-end flow separation has an important effect on the damping coefficient. The developed numerical solver is two-dimensional, but is found to yield reasonable estimates of hydrodynamic force coefficients when compared with a previous three-dimensional experimental investigation. This could indicate that three-dimensional effects are not dominant for the hydrodynamic forces of perforated plates, and that a two-dimensional viscous flow solver could have relevance as a tool for estimating hydrodynamic forces on three-dimensional perforated structures.  相似文献

Under real sea conditions, the hydrodynamic performance of floating vertical-axis tidal current turbines is affected by waves and currents. The wave circular frequency is a significant factor in determining the frequencies of the wave-induced motion responses of turbines. In this study, the ANSYS-CFX software (manufacturer: ANSYS Inc., Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States) is used to analyse the hydrodynamic performance of a vertical-axis turbine for different yawing frequencies and to study how the yawing frequencies affect the main hydrodynamic coefficients of the turbine, including the power coefficient, thrust coefficient, lateral force coefficient, and yawing moment coefficient. The time-varying curves obtained from the CFX software are fitted using the least-squares method; the damping and added mass coefficients are then calculated to analyse the influence of different yawing frequencies. The simulation results demonstrate that when analysing non-yawing turbines rotating under constant inflow, the main hydrodynamic coefficient time-varying curves of yawing turbines exhibit an additional fluctuation. Furthermore, the amplitude is positively correlated with the yawing frequency, and the oscillation amplitudes also increase with increasing yawing frequency; however, the average values of the hydrodynamic coefficients (except the power coefficient) are only weakly influenced by yawing motion. The power coefficient under yawing motion is lower than that under non-yawing motion, which means that yawing motion will cause the annual energy production of a turbine to decrease. The fitting results show that the damping term and the added mass term exert effects of the same level on the loads and moments of vertical-axis turbines under yawing motion. The results of this study can facilitate the study of the motion response of floating vertical-axis tidal current turbine systems in waves.  相似文献

Hydrodynamic modeling of perforated structures   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A hydrodynamic model of perforated or slotted structures is proposed. It is asymptotic in the sense that the openings are supposed to be infinitely small and numerous, and the wall thickness to be nil. At variance with other work, a quadratic, not linear, law, relating the pressure differential to the traversing velocity, is assumed. As a result the hydrodynamic coefficients (added mass and damping) become amplitude dependent. The model is applied to bodies of various shapes including cylinders, plates and disks, in forced motion or submitted to incoming waves. Good agreement with experimental data is generally observed.  相似文献

Added mass and damping of a vertical cylinder in finite-depth waters   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A comprehensive set of theoretical added masses and wave damping data for a floating circular cylinder in finite-depth water is presented. The hydrodynamic problem is solved by matching eigen functions of the interior and exterior problems. The resulting infinite system is solved directly and found to have excellent truncation characteristics. Added mass and damping are given for heave, sway, and roll motion, as well as coupling coefficients for sway and roll. It is shown that the heave added mass is logarithmic singular and the damping approaches a constant in the low-frequency limit. Transition of the behaviour in finite-depth water to deep water is also discussed.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to validate a new method that can be used by offshore platform designers to estimate the added mass and hydrodynamic damping coefficients of potential Tension Leg Platform hull configurations. These coefficients are critical to the determination of the platform response particularly to high frequency motions in heave caused by sum-frequency wave forcing i.e. “springing”. Previous research has developed the means by which offshore platform designers can extrapolate anticipated full-scale hydrodynamic coefficients based on the response of individual model scale component shapes. The work presented here further evaluates the component scaling laws for a single vertical cylinder and quantifies the effects due to hydrodynamic interaction. Hydrodynamic interaction effects are established through a direct comparison between the superposition of individual hull component coefficients and those evaluated directly from complete hull configuration models. The basis of this comparison is established by the experimental evaluation of the hydrodynamic coefficients for individual hull components as well as partial and complete platform models. The results indicate that hydrodynamic interaction effects between components are small in heave, and validate component scaling and superposition as an effective means for added mass and damping coefficient estimation of prototype platforms. It is found that the dependency of damping ratio with KC for a TLP is almost identical to that of a single column, thus offering a scaling methodology for prototype damping ratio values.  相似文献

Vortex shedding flow of an oscillating vertical cylinder with a disk attached at its keel is considered. This configuration is of interest for the offshore oil and gas industry. A finite difference method is employed to solve the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations in the primitive-variables formulation. Test cases were used to guide selection of the size of flow domain, numerical parameters, and to verify that the resultant method was both convergent and accurate. Numerical simulations have shown that the geometry configurations of the cylinder and disk, such as aspect ratio of the disk td/Dd and diameter ratio, Dd/Dc have significant influence on the vortex shedding modes and associated hydrodynamic properties, e.g. hydrodynamic damping and added mass coefficients. These in turn affect the performance in heave motion control of the structures.  相似文献

A plate submerged at a certain depth underneath the sea surface has been proposed as a structure type for different purposes, including motion response reduction, wave control, and wave energy harvesting. In the present study, the three-dimensional wave radiation problem is investigated in the context of the linear potential theory for a submerged ring plate in isolation or attached to a floating column as an appendage. In the latter case, the ring plate is attached at a certain distance above the column bottom. The structure is assumed to undergo a heave motion. An analytical model is developed to solve the wave radiation problem via the eigenfunction expansion method in association with the region-matching technique. With the velocity potential being available, the hydrodynamic coefficients, such as added mass and radiation damping, are obtained through the direct pressure integration. An alternative solution of radiation damping has also been developed in this study, in which the radiation damping is related to the Kochin function in the wave radiation problem. After validating the present model, numerical analysis is performed in detail to assess the influence of various plate parameters, such as the plate size and submergence depth. It is noted that the additional added mass due to the attached ring plate is larger than that when the plate is in isolation. Meanwhile, the radiation damping of the column for the heave motion can vanish at a specific wave frequency by attaching a ring plate, corresponding to a condition that there exist no progressive waves in the exterior region.  相似文献

It is well known in the field of marine hydrodynamics that the added mass, damping and wave exciting forces are functions of frequency (Newman, 1977. Marine Hydrodynamics. MIT Press, Cambridge). Although most previous studies of nonlinear ship rolling motion have assumed that these forces do not vary with frequency, in this study the frequency dependent added mass and damping coefficients are approximated in the time domain with extended state space variables. Using numerical time simulation (integration), the extended state space model is compared to the constant coefficient model with a constant frequency forcing and the results for two constant value approximations of the added mass and damping are compared to the extended state space model with a multiple component pseudo random forcing.  相似文献

In the present study, hydrodynamic interactions between water waves and porous bodies are investigated. Various hydrodynamic identities, such as the Haskind relation, Bessho-Newman relation etc., are systematically re-examined. Some of these identities, such as the symmetry of added mass and damping and the Haskind-Hanaoka relation, are still valid for porous bodies even without modification to the identities. However, when energy dissipation due to porosity is involved, appropriate supplementation is required to properly consider porous effects. In addition, the calculation of wave drift forces acting on a porous body is formulated either by pressure integration or using momentum conservation as basis. We conclude that porosity dissipation makes a more substantial contribution to wave drift forces than does conventional dissipation created by scattered and radiated waves.  相似文献

The hydrodynamic properties of long rigid floating pontoon interacting with linear oblique waves in water of finite arbitrary depth are examined theoretically. The flow is idealized as linearized, velocity potentials are expressed in the form of eigen-function expansions with unknown coefficients. The fluid domain is split into three regions, region (1) wave-ward of the structure, region (2) in the lee of the structure, and region (3) beneath the structure. The different hydrodynamic quantities of interest such as the exciting forces, added mass and damping coefficients, reflection and transmission coefficients were studied for an applicable range of wave/structure parameters. Assuming rigid body motions, dynamic responses of the moored structure is approximately calculated through three equations of motion. Floating pontoons proved to be a convenient alternative for protection from waves in shallow water. The present method of solution was found to be computationally efficient, and results are comparable to those obtained through other techniques.  相似文献

This paper studies the moonpool resonance of two heaving rectangular bodies in a two-layer fluid. A mathematical model is proposed based on an eigenfunction matching approach. The motion of the two-dimensional bodies is assumed to be vertical and harmonic. Heave added mass and damping coefficients are computed to examine the hydrodynamic behavior of the twin bodies. The free surface and internal wave elevations are obtained near the resonant frequencies. The presented results and analyses reveal that there exist both Helmholtz and higher-order resonances in the two-layer fluid system, which is similar to the single-layer fluid case. It is also found that the resonances are closely associated with the free surface elevation inside moonpool gap, not the wave elevation at the interfacial surface. In addition, parametric studies have been performed to identify the dependencies of hydrodynamic behavior on geometry and density stratification.  相似文献

The hydroelastic responses of a submerged horizontal solid/porous plate attached at the front of a very large rectangular floating structure(VLFS) under wave action has been investigated in the context of linear water wave theory. Darcy's law is adopted to represent energy dissipation in pores. It is assumed that the porous plates are made of material with very fine pores so that the normal velocity across the perforated porous is linearly associated with the pressure drop. In the analytic method, the eigenfunction expansion-matching method(EEMM) for multiple domains is applied to solve the hydrodynamic problem and the elastic equation of motion is solved by the modal expansion method. The performance of the proposed submerged horizontal solid/porous plate can be significantly enhanced by selecting optimal design parameters, such as plate length, horizontal position, submerged depth and porosity. It is concluded that good damping effect can be achieved through installation of solid and porous plate.Porous plate has better damping effect at low frequencies, while solid plate has better damping effect at high frequencies. The optimal ratio of plate length to water depth is 0.25-0.375, and the optimal ratio of submerged depth to water depth is 0.09-0.181.

A computer program is developed for hull/mooring/riser coupled dynamic analysis of a tanker-based turret-moored FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) in waves, winds, and currents. In this computer program, the floating body is modeled as a rigid body with six degrees of freedom. The first- and second-order wave forces, added mass, and radiation damping at various yaw angles are calculated from the second-order diffraction/radiation panel program WAMIT. The wind and current forces for various yaw angles of FPSO are modeled following the empirical method suggested by OCIMF (Oil Company International Marine Forum).

The mooring/riser dynamics are modeled using a rod theory and finite element method (FEM), with the governing equations described in a generalized coordinate system. The dynamics of hull, mooring lines, and risers are solved simultaneously at each time step in a combined matrix for the specified connection condition. For illustration, semi-taut chain-steel wire-chain mooring lines and steel catenary risers are employed and their effects on global FPSO hull motions are investigated. To better understand the physics related to the motion characteristics of a turret-moored FPSO, the role of various hydrodynamic contributions is analyzed and assessed including the effects of hull and mooring/riser viscous damping, second-order difference-frequency wave-force quadratic transfer functions, and yaw-angle dependent wave forces and hydrodynamic coefficients. To see the effects of hull and mooring/riser coupling and mooring/riser damping more clearly, the case with no drag forces on those slender members is also investigated. The numerical results are compared with MARIN's wave basin experiments.  相似文献

Design analysis of a truss pontoon semi-submersible concept in deep water   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Truss pontoon semi-submersible (TPS) is a new offshore structure concept in industry, where a truss spar is used to create the added mass by the heave plates. In the present paper, the effect of the heave plates on the vertical motion of the floating structure is demonstrated. A TPS is analyzed by utilizing the linear diffraction theory as well as the linear part of the Morison equation. The close agreement of the analysis results with the experimental results suggests that the simplified Morison equation can be used for the present analysis without sacrificing the quality of the results. However, good engineering judgment is required for estimating the values of the hydrodynamic coefficients as well as the amount of damping introduced in the structure. It is also found that the heave plates indeed introduce large added mass and considerable damping in the system motion in the vertical direction such that the resonant oscillation becomes less of a problem. This suggests that the TSP concept may have merits as a heave-controlled floating production structure in the deepwater development.  相似文献

An investigation of the hydrodynamic behaviour of bodies in a large-amplitude oscillatory motion, for example in view of wave power absorption by floating bodies, not only requires the knowledge of added mass and damping coefficients, which can be calculated by means of a linear theory, but also of higher-order forces. Especially the third-order values will have to be calculated, because they contain a first-harmonic component.A computation procedure has been developed in order to calculate hydrodynamic forces up to the third order, acting on axisymmetric bodies in an oscillatory heaving motion. The method only requires the knowledge of first- and second-order potential functions, even for the calculation of third-order forces.Experiments have been carried out on floating conical and submerged cylindrical models, in order to evaluate the theoretical procedure.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of an experimental investigation of added masses and damping coefficients of a model of a fast monohull. A model of 4.5 m length between perpendiculars was constructed of fiber glass reinforced plastic (FRP) with four segments connected by a backbone. The backbone was instrumented with load cells at the positions of the cuts. This configuration, combined with load cells measuring the force exerted by the forced motion actuators, made it possible to obtain the hydrodynamic coefficients for each of the four hull segments.

The investigation focused on the vertical motions. Thus, the experimental program included forced harmonic heave and pitch motions in calm water (no incident waves). Subtracting inertial and restoring forces from total measured forces, one obtained the hydrodynamic component, which then resulted in the hydrodynamic coefficients. The effects of steady forward speed on the radiation forces were investigated by conducting model tests at four forward speeds. Finally, nonlinear effects were assessed by conducting model tests for three amplitudes of forced heave and forced pitch motions.  相似文献

A technique for the evaluation of the hydrodynamic coefficients of ships is outlined for ship oscillating in a numerical wave tank, which is established on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) theories. The numerical simulation of ship sections and bodies forced oscillating in the tank are carried out. The added mass and damping coefficients are obtained by the decomposition of the computational results, which agree well with the corresponding ones of potential theories.  相似文献
