A survey of the H 272 α recombination line at 325 MHz has been made towards 53 directions in the galactic plane using the Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT). 34 of these directions correspond to well-known Hn regions, 12 to SNRs and 6 to ‘blank’ areas selected so that the 5 GHz continuum is a minimum over the telescope beam of 2ℴ x 6 arcmin. Observing procedure and spectra of 47 sources towards which lines are detected are presented. Hydrogen recombination lines have been detected towards all the observed directions havingl <40ℴ. Carbon recombination lines are identified in 12 of the directions. The hydrogen line intensities are found to correlate well with the total continuum intensity (which includes the nonthermal galactic background) indicating that most of the lines arise due to stimulated emission by the background radiation. A preliminary discussion on the nature of the line-emitting regions is also presented.  相似文献

V andB light curves for supernova 1987A covering some 120 days from the outburst are here presented and discussed; they are shown to be rather atypical for a type II supernova. The absolute magnitude at maximum brightness is also analyzed, and after applying a correction for interstellar absorption we obtainM V, max, 0 =–16.1, andM B, max, 0 =–14.7; is is then concluded that 1987A is a supernova quite fainter than average. A comparison with other known supernova is made and some similarity is found with peculiar objects such as 1948B in NGC 6946, and probably, 1909 A in M 101.Research supported in part by SECyT and CONICOR.  相似文献

BV photometry of HD 116204 obtained on 57 nights during 1983–84, 1984–85 and 1986–87 observing season is presented. A photometric period of 21.9 ± 0.2 d and a mean (B-V)= 1.196 ± 0.010 are obtained. It is suggested that the binary HD 116204 has a mass ratio close to unity. Attempts are needed to detect the spectrum of secondary.  相似文献

The possibility of using a trap with ultracold neutrons as a detector of dark matter particles with long-range forces is considered. The main advantage of the proposed method lies in the possibility of detecting a recoil energy of ∼10−7 eV. Constraints on the parameters of an interaction potential of the form φ (r) = ae r/b /r between dark matter particles and a neutron are presented at various dark matter densities on Earth. The assumption about the long-range interaction of dark matter particles and ordinary matter is shown to lead to a significant increase in the elastic scattering cross section at low energies. As a consequence, it becomes possible to capture and accumulate dark matter in the Earth’s gravitational field. The accumulated dark matter in the Earth’s gravitational field is roughly estimated. The first experimental constraints on the existence of dark matter with long-range forces on Earth are presented.  相似文献

A flexible and informative vector approach to the problem of physical libration of the rigid Moon has been developed in which three Euler differential equations are supplemented by 12 kinematic ones. A linearized system of equations can be split into an even and odd systems with respect to the reflection in the plane of the lunar equator, and rotational oscillations of the Moon are presented by superposition of librations in longitude and latitude. The former is described by three equations and consists of unrestricted oscillations with a period of T 1 = 2.878 Julian years (amplitude of 1.855″) and forced oscillations with periods of T 2 = 27.201 days (15.304″), one stellar year (0.008″), half a year (0.115″), and the third of a year (0.0003″) (five harmonics altogether). A zero frequency solution has also been obtained. The effect of the Sun on these oscillations is two orders of magnitude less than that of the Earth. The libration in latitude is presented by five equations and, at pertrubations from the Earth, is described by two harmonics of unrestricted oscillations (T 5 ≈ 74.180 Julian years, T 6 ≈ 27.347 days) and one harmonic of forced oscillations (T 3 = 27.212 days). The motion of the true pole is presented by the same harmonics, with the maximum deviation from the Cassini pole being 45.3″. The fifth (zero) frequency yields a stationary solution with a conic precession of the rotation axis (previously unknown). The third Cassini law has been proved. The amplitudes of unrestricted oscillations have been determined from comparison with observations. For the ratio $ \frac{{\sin I}} {{\sin \left( {I + i} \right)}} \approx 0.2311 $ \frac{{\sin I}} {{\sin \left( {I + i} \right)}} \approx 0.2311 , the theory gives 0.2319, which confirms the adequacy of the approach. Some statements of the previous theory are revised. Poinsot’s method is shown to be irrelevant in describing librations of the Moon. The Moon does not have free (Euler) oscillations; it has oscillations with a period of T 5 ≈ 74.180 Julian years rather than T ≈ 148.167 Julian years.  相似文献

A homogeneous data‐base collating all uvbyβ photometry available at present for O‐B9 stars in the field of IC 2602 is presented. The characteristics of the field are studied. Four spatially coherent groups can be distinguished. A low reddened compact group located at 156 ± 6 pc is identi.ed with IC 2602, followed by background layers at 546 ± 33 pc, 1117 ± 61 pc, and possibly at 2626 ± 163 pc. The apparent depth of the first three layers is about 1 kpc, which is consistent with the thickness of a spiral arm. There is an indication for the existence of a region free of massive luminous stars between 1.2 and 2.6 kpc, which could be associated with interarm space between the Local Association and the distant spiral structures toward Carina. A new scenario of clustering in a two component dark matter universe is discussed, from which we would expect the difference between the distributions of quasars and galaxies on the scale of 10–100 Mpc and the difference between the distributions of quasars withZ>2 andZ<2. A 20cm 2 CCD mosaic camera has been especially built to search for dark galactic halo objects by the gravitational microlensing effect. The sensitive area is made of 16 edge-buttable CCDs developped by Thomson-CTS, with 23×23 µm 2 pixels. The 35 kg camera housing and mechanical equipment is presented. The associated electronics and data acquisition system are described in a separate paper. The camera resides at the focal plane of a 40 cm, f/10, Ferson reflector. The instrument has been in operation since December 1991 at the La Silla Observatory (ESO).  相似文献

A new code has been used to simulate the formation of elliptical galaxies via a dissipationless collapse by a numerical experiment. Preliminary results of numerical simulations are presented for initial 2T/|W| conditions ranging from 10–2 to 10–5. The algorithm for determining effective optical thickness of absorption line formation in a plane-parallel homogeneous planetary atmosphere is presented. The case of anisotropic scattering is considered. The results of numerical calculations of τ e 0) at the scattering angle γ = π for some values of the single scattering albedo λ and the parameter of the Heyney-Greenstein scattering indicatrix g are given. In a previous paper we presented a low-resolution (2°×2°) survey of radio recombination lines (RRLs) at 327 MHz in the longitude rangel=330° to 0° to 89°. In this paper, we present the results of a higher resolution (2°×6′) survey of RRLs from seven 2°-wide fields and two 6°-wide fields in the same longitude range. Observations were made using the Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT). A total of 252 spectra that were obtained are presented. RRLs were detected in almost all the individual positions within the fields withl<35° and at several individual positions within the fields in the longitude rangel=35° to 85°. Detailed analysis of the data towards the field centered at G45.5+0.0, shows that the line emission consists of discrete zones of ionized gas. The angular extent of these zones are likely to be one degree or more corresponding to a linear size of >110 pc at the kinematic distance.  相似文献

A summary of total sulfur abundances representative of the Apollo Missions is presented. Lunar crystalline rocks range from 0 to 3100μg S g−1. Lunar soils range from 310 to 1300μg S g−1. Rock mixing models evaluate the distribution of sulfur and define indigenous rock components and extralunar contributions of sulfur in lunar soils. Extralunar sulfur shows a positive correlation with a CC-1 like meteoritic component and solar wind derived total carbon content in the Apollo 16 and 17 lunar soils. Together with the main 11-year cycle, solar activity also displays intracycle periodicities. A simple nonlinear model that describes the 11-year solar cycle with subperiodicities can be derived from the usual α – ω dynamo theory in the form of a Van der Pol equation with a forcing term. In this paper the results obtained from the Van der Pol oscillator describing the amplitude modulations and periodicities observed from the data set of the global daily coronal emission of the Fe xiv line at 530.3 nm are presented.  相似文献

A Reducing Camera designed by Meinel has been constructed and tested on the 61 cm NCU Cassegrain telescope. The basic principle of RC is to reduce the reflector'sf/13.5 to the equivalentf/2.7 such that the Cassegrain focus image can be reduced on a 35 mm film with almost no loss in sky coverage and in resolution but the exposure time is reduced by a factor of 25. The camera is able to obtain stellar spectra. With a grism and a standard lens the dispersion is 450 Å mm–1, which is comparable to that required for the MK classification. RC constructure and testing results are reported. A ring of compact radio continuum sources was found atl=24°.6b=0°.0, which we call the Scutum ring. The effect of stellar scintillation on the accuracy of photometric measurements is analyzed. We obtain a convenient form of estimaton of this effect in the long exposure regime, when the turbulence shift produced by the wind is much larger than the aperture of the telescope. A simple method is proposed to determine index S 3 introduced by Kenyon et al. (2006), directly from the measurements with the Multi Aperture Scintillation Sensor (MASS) without information on vertical profile of the wind. The statistics S 3 resulting from our campaign of 2005–2007 at Maidanak observatory is presented. It is shown that these data can be used to estimate high-altitude winds at pressure level 70–100 mbar. Comparison with the wind speed retrieved from the NCEP/NCAR global models shows a good agreement. Some prospects for retrieval of the wind speed profile from the MASS measurements are outlined.  相似文献

Motivated by several recent studies on the geometry of molecular cloud structures, we perform two experiments that consider the projection of fractal images onto a two-dimensional screen. Evidence is presented to support the proposition that the dimensionD P of the contours surrounding the projected images are given byD s–1, whereD s>2 is the fractal dimension of the object itself. A sample of 230 galaxies has been compiled based on their IRAS FSC fluxes to study their multiwavelength properties and carry out comparative analyses with other similar samples. To understand the nature of these galaxies, a comparison with a sample of bright ULIRGs having fluxes at 60 μm  > 1 Jy and 14 optically faint IRAS FSC galaxies is presented. This comparison shows that galaxies found by IRAS are not always strong infrared sources and that the objects from the sample of ULIRGs represent a sample of extreme galaxies, which are very powerful infrared sources. We have confirmed the consistency between Star Formation Rates (SFRs) calibrated based on luminosities of the PAH feature at 7.7 μm and radio 1.4 GHz flux densities. We have estimated the extinction for our 230 objects using SFRs calibrated from the PAH feature compared to ultraviolet flux, which shows that only 1% of the ultraviolet continuum typically escapes extinction by dust within a starburst.  相似文献
