The residue of glauconite-bearing rocks from the Bavarian Helvetic zone and the Upper Cretaceous of Regensburg contains glauconitic mica of the 1 M mica-type in the glauconite pellets as well as in the clay fraction < 2 Ø. The glauconite mica of the helvetic rocks are developed as irregular or hexagonaly shaped flakes, those from the rocks of the Upper Palatinate are irregular or form ledges. In the helvetic rocks the glauconitic mica of the fraction < 2 is associated with chlorite (± montmorillonite), in the rocks of the Upper Palatinate on the contrary only montmorillonite could be detected besides glauconitic mica. The association glauconite/chlorite or glauconite/ montmorillonite may be caused by differing marine facia. There is no correlation between dolomite formed by diagenesis and content of chlorite in the rocks. The morphology of the glauconite pellets in all Helvetic rocks and in the Grünsand from Regensburg indicates an authigenic formation of the pellets, whereas the pellets of the Turonic glauconitic marl from Regensburg are rounded by transport.

Summary The boundary-layer structure of the Elqui Valley is investigated, which is situated in the arid north of Chile and extends
from the Pacific Ocean in the west to the Andes in the east. The climate is dominated by the south-eastern Pacific subtropical
anticyclone and the cold Humboldt Current. This combination leads to considerable temperature and moisture gradients between
the coast and the valley and results in the evolution of sea and valley wind systems. The contribution of these mesoscale
wind systems to the heat and moisture budget of the valley atmosphere is estimated, based on radiosoundings performed near
the coast and in the valley.
Near the coast, a well-mixed cloud-topped boundary layer exists. Both, the temperature and the specific humidity do not change
considerably during the day. In the stratus layer the potential temperature increases, while the specific humidity decreases
slightly with height. The top of the thin stratus layer, about 300 m in depth, is marked by an inversion. Moderate sea breeze
winds of 3–4 m s−1 prevail in the sub-cloud and cloud layer during daytime, but no land breeze develops during the night.
The nocturnal valley atmosphere is characterized by a strong and 900 m deep stably stratified boundary layer. During the day,
no pronounced well-mixed layer with a capping inversion develops in the valley. Above a super-adiabatic surface layer of about
150 m depth, a stably stratified layer prevails throughout the day. However, heating can be observed within a layer above
the surface 800 m deep. Heat and moisture budget estimations show that sensible heat flux convergence exceeds cold air advection
in the morning, while both processes compensate each other around noon, such that the temperature evolution stagnates. In
the afternoon, cold air advection predominates and leads to net cooling of the boundary layer. Furthermore, the advection
of moist air results in the accumulation of moisture during the noon and afternoon period, while latent heat flux convergence
is of minor relevance to the moisture budget of the boundary layer.

A coupled, physical-biological model is used to study the processes that determine the annual cycle of biological activity in the Arabian Sea. The physical model is a
system with a surface mixed layer imbedded in the upper layer, and fluid is allowed to move between layers via entrainment, detrainment and mixing processes. The biological model consists of a set of advective-diffusive equations in each layer that determine the nitrogen concentrations in four compartments: nutrients, phytoplankton, zooplankton and detritus. Coupling is provided by the horizontal-velocity, layer-thickness, entrainment and detrainment fields from the physical solution. Surface forcing fields (such as wind stress and photosynthetically active radiation) are derived from monthly climatological data, and the source of nitrogen for the system is upward diffusion of nutrients from the deep ocean into the lower layer. Our main-run solution compares favorably with observed physical and biological fields; in particular, it is able to simulate all the prominent phytoplankton blooms visible in the CZCS data. Three bloom types develop in response to the physical processes of upwelling, detrainment and entrainment. Upwelling blooms are strong, long-lasting events that continue as long as the upwelling persists. They occur during the Southwest Monsoon off Somalia, Oman and India as a result of coastal alongshore winds, and at the mouth of the Gulf of Aden through Ekman pumping. Detrainment blooms are intense, short-lived events that develop when the mixed layer thins abruptly, thereby quickly increasing the depth-averaged light intensity available for phytoplankton growth. They occur during the fall in the central Arabian Sea, and during the spring throughout most of the basin. In contrast to the other bloom types, entrainment blooms are weak because entrainment steadily thickens the mixed layer, which in turn decreases the depth-averaged light intensity. There is an entrainment bloom in the central Arabian Sea during June in the solution, but it is not apparent in the CZCS data. Bloom dynamics are isolated in a suite of diagnostic calculations and test solutions. Some results from these analyses are the following. Entrainment is the primary nutrient source for the offshore bloom in the central Arabian Sea, but advection and recycling also contribute. The ultimate cause for the decay of the solution's spring (and fall) blooms is nutrient deprivation, but their rapid initial decay results from grazing and self shading. Zooplankton grazing is always an essential process, limiting phytoplankton concentrations during both bloom and oligotrophic periods. Detrital remineralization is also important: in a test solution without remineralization, nutrient levels drop markedly in every layer of the model and all blooms are severely weakened. Senescence, however, has little effect: in a test solution without senescence, its lack is almost completely compensated for by increased grazing. Finally, the model's detrainment blooms are too brief and intense in comparison to the CZCS data; this difference cannot be removed by altering biological parameters, which suggests that phytoplankton growth in the model is more sensitive to mixed-layer thickness than it is in the real ocean. 相似文献

The 7 million oz. Jundee–Nimary lode-gold deposit occurs in the northern portion of the Yandal greenstone belt in the northeastern
part of the Archean Yilgarn Craton of Western Australia. Gold mineralization at Jundee–Nimary is similar in structural style,
mineralogy, geochemistry and relative timing with respect to deformation and metamorphism, to other Western Australian Archean
greenstone-hosted gold deposits, but is unusual in the fact that mineralized structures are crosscut by structurally late
intermediate to felsic dykes. Within the Deakin South open cut, gold mineralization is hosted in brittle–ductile shear zones
primarily developed within the dacitic Mitchell Porphyry. The Moore Porphyry, a broad dyke of porphyritic granodiorite, intrudes
the Mitchell Porphyry, crosscutting and post-dating gold mineralization. Analytically indistinguishable SHRIMP U–Pb zircon
ages of 2678 ± 5 Ma for the Mitchell Porphyry and 2669 ± 7 Ma for the Moore Porphyry require that gold mineralization at Jundee–Nimary
occurred at ca. 2680–2660 Ma, approximately 40 million years earlier than the majority of published robust ages for gold mineralization
in the Yilgarn Craton, which mostly overlap at ca. 2640–2630 Ma. The close spatial and temporal relationship between gold
mineralization and felsic to intermediate magmatism at Jundee–Nimary also raises the possibility of a genetic link between
hydrothermal and igneous activity. However, additional work is required to establish a firm connection. Current research on
lode-gold mineralization in Archean, Paleozoic and Phanerozoic terranes suggests a model which postulates that these deposits
formed during transpressional to compressional deformation in accretionary and collisional orogens and that their formation
is intimately related to orogenic processes. Consequently, mineralization and regional metamorphism are expected to be diachronous,
as terranes are accreted and the front of orogenesis migrates. Consideration of the new data presented in this paper in conjunction
with previously published dates supports the hypothesis that gold mineralization, along with regional metamorphism, was generally
diachronous from northeast to southwest across the Yilgarn Craton, over a period of approximately 40 million years from ca.
2680–2660 Ma to ca. 2640–2630 Ma. This is directly analogous to the accepted model for the timing of orogenic lode-gold mineralization
in other provinces and therefore provides further support for a unified model for this style of deposit through geological
time.

The geological record of the Western Andean Escarpment (WARP) reveals episodes of uplift, erosion, volcanism and sedimentation. The lithological sequence at 18°S comprises a thick pile of Azapa Conglomerates (25–19 Ma), an overlying series of widespread rhyodacitic Oxaya Ignimbrites (up to 900 m thick, ca. 19 Ma), which are in turn covered by a series of mafic andesite shield volcanoes. Between 19 and 12 Ma, the surface of the Oxaya Ignimbrites evolved into a large monocline on the western slope of the Andes. A giant antithetically rotated block (Oxaya Block, 80 km×20 km) formed on this slope at about 10–12 Ma and resulted in an easterly dip and a reversed drainage on the block's surface. Morphology, topography and stratigraphic observations argue for a gravitational cause of this rotation. A “secondary” gravitational collapse (50 km3), extending 25 km to the west occurred on the steep western front of the Oxaya Block. Alluvial and fluvial sediments (11–2.7 Ma) accumulated in a half graben to the east of the tilted block and were later thrust over by the rocks of the escarpment wall, indicating further shortening between 8 and 6 Ma. Flatlying Upper Miocene sediments (<5.5 Ma) and the 2.7 Ma Lauca–Peréz Ignimbrite have not been significantly shortened since 6 Ma, suggesting that recent uplift is at least partly caused by regional tilting of the Western Andean slope. 相似文献
