台湾岛西南部是暖涡产生的源地之一, 以往的研究集中于讨论暖涡本身的运动特征和规律, 如暖涡的半径、产生位置、寿命、移动路径等, 暖涡生成机制也引发了深入的研究和探讨, 但关于该地区暖涡导致的物质输运, 仅有少量的观测且结果较为离散。文章通过AVISO(Archiving Validation and Interpretation of Satellite Oceanographic Data)卫星高度计的地转流场、海表高度异常数据以及区域海洋环流模式(ROMS)结果, 得到一个暖涡从2003年秋季至2004年春季的生消过程, 并在涡旋内10m、50m、100m层各放入10000个示踪粒子, 追踪它们的运动轨迹, 从而讨论暖涡的跨海盆粒子输运特征。该暖涡的寿命为121d, 平均半径50.4km, 移动路程1437.5km, 平均移动速度 13.5cm·s-1。研究表明, 该暖涡具有较好的物质保守性, 可以将大部分的粒子裹挟在涡旋内部并携带着沿1000~2000m等深线向西南方向运动, 在该暖涡的消亡阶段, 由于地形的阻隔以及与流的相互作用, 涡的不稳定性和形变增加, 大量的粒子被甩出涡旋, 最后仅有18.6%~35.6%粒子随暖涡运动至海南岛南部。尽管这个比例并不大, 但涡致输运的积累作用不容小觑。示踪粒子的数目与位涡具有较好的相关性, 相关系数为0.63, 暖涡内的物质被位涡线裹挟着前行。示踪粒子在暖涡内呈螺旋状下沉, 大部分粒子在释放后的5d内基本在起始的深度上下浮沉, 仅有3.9%的粒子沉降至15m以下。在10m、50m和100m层释放的粒子平均深度最大值分别为48.7m、88.7m和130.6m。  相似文献

A diagnostic method for calculating physical and numerical mixing of tracers in ocean models is presented. The physical mixing is defined as the turbulent mean tracer variance decay rate. The numerical mixing due to discretisation errors of tracer advection schemes is shown to be the decay rate between the advected square of the tracer variance and the square of the advected tracer and can be easily implemented into any ocean model. The applicability of the method is demonstrated for four test cases: (i) a one-dimensional linear advection equation with periodic boundary conditions, (ii) a two-dimensional flat-bottom lock exchange test case without mixing, (iii) a two-dimensional marginal sea overflow study with mixing and entrainment and (iv) the DOME test case with a dense bottom current propagating down a broad linear slope. The method has a number of advantages over previously introduced estimates for numerical mixing.  相似文献

A new method, based on fitting Fourier series to time-series (TS) data from sediment traps, was developed to estimate the settling velocities (SVs) of sinking particles in the open ocean. This new method was applied to data from MedFlux, as well as from the US JGOFS NABE, EqPac, and ASPS studies. Fluxes of mass and of four chemical tracers, as well as the molar ratios of the latter, were plotted on logarithmic scales; Fourier series were then fit to these data. In each case we determined the most likely settling velocity using a likelihood-based nonlinear fitting algorithm. Variation among estimates using single tracers was significantly less than variation using tracer ratios; we therefore concluded that estimates based on single tracers are to be preferred to estimates based on tracer ratios. Our results also showed no obvious differences among SVs estimated using different single tracers. The best estimate of settling velocity using single-tracer fluxes with good temporal resolution (i.e. for sites with cup rotation times 8.5 days) is 205 m/d, with standard deviation 74 m/d. For MedFlux data alone (which have a resolution of 4–6 days), the estimate is 220±65 m/d. This latter value is within 10% of the estimate of average settling velocity (242±31 m/d) made using MedFlux IRS traps in “settling velocity” mode.  相似文献

The residual circulation is the flow which transports tracers. Its utility is tempered by the challenge associated with its computation: velocity must be mapped into tracer coordinates on a timescale which is short compared to eddy timescales. Several approximations have been introduced which allow the residual circulation to be evaluated using a small number of flow statistics, including the transformed Eulerian mean (TEM), the temporal residual mean (TRM), and the recently introduced statistical transformed Eulerian mean (STEM). This paper discusses the relationship between these approximations and illustrates their differences with a series of analytical and numerical examples. The STEM is found to be superior to the TEM and TRM in both its handling of the surface boundary condition and its ease of implementation.  相似文献

Three sediment transport studies using tracers were performed at Ancão Inlet (southern Portugal). The objectives of the experiments were to understand the sediment transport pathways and to determine their magnitudes on the updrift margin of an inlet. In order to apply the traditionally used Space Integration Methodology to the tracer experiments, adaptations were required. The study area was divided into four morphologically defined sectors and this was found to be a key factor for the applicability of tracers in a complex area. The four sectors are as follows: sector A is the straight part of the updrift beach; sector B is the upper area of the swash platform; sector C is the lower area of the swash platform; and sector D represents the inner parts of the inlet margin. The integrated analysis of all collected data (forcing mechanisms, tracer distribution and topographic evolution) led to the determination of the sediment pathways. A semi-quantitative conceptual model was developed in order to explain the sediment transport pathways and magnitudes that a known mass of sediment would follow after arriving at the swash platform. It was found that the areas with the largest sediment accumulation were sectors B and C, while almost no sediment was retained in sector D, which experienced significant erosion. According to the model, 53% of the initial mass of sediments remain in the system after two tidal cycles. It is hypothesised that sediment losses are caused by sediment transport towards the ebb delta and by sediment bypassing occurring from the ebb delta to the downdrift beach through swash bar processes. The herein defined conceptual model represents a useful tool that could be applied to other tidal inlets under similar conditions, facilitating sediment budget studies around tidal inlets.  相似文献

234Th (T1/2=24.1 d) and 210Po (T1/2=138.4 d) are particle reactive radioisotopes that are used as tracers for particle cycling in the upper ocean. Particulate organic carbon (POC) export has frequently been estimated using 234Th/238U disequilibrium. Recent evidence suggests that 210Po/210Pb disequilibrium may be used as an additional tool to examine particle export, given the direct biological uptake of 210Po into cellular material. Differences in these two radioisotope pairs with regard to their half-lives, particle reactivity and scavenging affinity in seawater should provide complementary information to be obtained on the processes occurring in the water column. Here, we review eight different studies that have simultaneously used both approaches to estimate POC export fluxes from the surface ocean. Our aim is to provide a complete “dataset” of all the existing POC flux data derived from the coupled use of both 234Th and 210Po and to evaluate the advantages and limitations of each tracer pair. Our analysis suggests that the simultaneous use of both radiotracers provides more useful comparative data than can be derived from the use of a single tracer alone. The difference in half-lives of 234Th and 210Po enables the study of export production rates over different time scales. In addition, their different biogeochemical behaviour and preferred affinity for specific types of particles leads to the conclusion that 234Th is a better tracer of total mass flux, whereas 210Po tracks POC export more specifically. The synthesis presented here is also intended to provide a basis for planning future sampling strategies and promoting further work in this field to help reveal the more specific application of each tracer under specific water column biogeochemistries.  相似文献

利用ECOMSED模式中的示踪粒子三维追踪模块分析罗源湾的水交换情况。结果表明,水交换能力的强弱与纳潮量的大小成正比。这里分析湾内水逗留期的空间分布,然后根据湾水存留期的不同将湾内划分为4个地区。进一步的研究表明不同海区湾水逗留期的差异主要是由欧拉余流场的结构差异造成的。由于风场可以影响当地的海流,因此不同的风场也会影响水交换能力。本文结果表明西南方向的风有利于水交换;而作为罗源湾全年主导风向的东北风,在平均风速的情况下,却阻碍了湾内水体的交换。本文还发现在不同投放时刻水交换能力的不同。初始投放时刻的不同对质点总数的减少速度有较明显的影响,高潮时和落潮中间时投放的质点数要比涨潮中间时和低潮时投放的质点数减少得快。罗源湾水交换能力的垂直分布不是均匀的:表层交换率较快,底层较慢,整个海域的交换能力与中层的相当。  相似文献

A fluorescent sand-tracer experiment was performed at Comporta Beach (Portugal) with the aim of acquiring longshore sediment transport data on a reflective beach, the optimization of field and laboratory tracer procedures and the improvement of the conceptual model used to support tracer data interpretation.

The field experiment was performed on a mesotidal reflective beach face in low energetic conditions (significant wave height between 0.4 and 0.5 m). Two different colour tracers (orange and blue) were injected at low tide and sampled in the two subsequent low tides using a high resolution 3D grid extending 450 m alongshore and 30 m cross-shore. Marked sand was detected using an automatic digital image processing system developed in the scope of the present experiment.

Results for the two colour tracers show a remarkable coherence, with high recovery rates attesting data validity. Sand tracer displayed a high advection velocity, but with distinct vertical distribution patterns in the two tides: in the first tide there was a clear decrease in tracer advection velocity with depth while in the second tide, the tracer exhibited an almost uniform vertical velocity distribution. This differing behaviour suggests that, in the first tide, the tracer had not reached equilibrium within the transport system, pointing to a considerable time lag between injection and complete mixing. This issue has important implications for the interpretation of tracer data, indicating that short term tracer experiments tend to overestimate transport rates. In this work, therefore, longshore estimates were based on tracer results obtained during the second tide.

The estimated total longshore transport rate at Comporta Beach was 2 × 10− 3 m3/s, more than four times larger than predicted using standard empirical longshore formulas. This discrepancy, which results from the unusually large active moving layer observed during the experiment, confirms the idea that most common longshore transport equations under-estimate total sediment transport in plunging/surging waves.  相似文献

Two different methods of estimating the water exchange through the Baltic coastal region of Laxemar have been used, consisting of particle trajectories and passive tracers. Water is traced from and to a small discharge region near the coast. The discharge material in this region is treated as zero-dimensional particles or tracers with neutral buoyancy. The real discharge material could be a leakage of radio-nuclides through the sea floor from an underground repository of nuclear waste.Water exchange rates between the discharge region and the model domain are estimated using both forward and backward trajectories as well as passive tracers. The Lagrangian trajectories can account for the time evolution of the water exchange while the tracers give one average age per model grid box. Water exchange times such as residence time, age and transient times have been calculated with trajectories but only the average age (AvA) for tracers. The trajectory calculations provide a more detailed time evolution than the tracers.On the other hand the tracers are integrated “on-line” simultaneously in the sea circulation model with the same time step while the Lagrangian trajectories are integrated “off-line” from the stored model velocities with its inherent temporal resolution, presently 1 h. The sub-grid turbulence is parameterised as the Laplacian diffusion for the passive tracers and with an extra stochastic velocity for trajectories. The importance of the parameterised sub-grid turbulence for the trajectories is estimated to give an extra diffusion of the same order as the Laplacian diffusion by comparing the Lagrangian dispersions with and without parameterisation. The results of the different methods are similar but depend on the chosen diffusivity coefficient with a slightly higher correlation between trajectories and tracers when integrated with a lower diffusivity coefficient.  相似文献

This paper describes a probabilistic approach in the estimation of the sediment transport along the reclaimed shoreline at the Singapore Changi Airport through a detailed analysis of the data obtained from a radio-active tracer experiment conducted on site by the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA).The probabilistic approach showed that the transport rate per unit transverse width of the beach is proportional to the effective depth of transport and the speed of the centroid of the probability function describing the dispersion of the cloud of tracers.  相似文献

2005年7月在赤道东北太平洋的3个测站分层采集了悬浮体水样.利用ICP-MS对悬浮体的元素组成进行了测试,从测试的47种元素中筛选出了钡和铝分别作为悬浮体生源组分和陆源组分的示踪元素.悬浮体中钡含量为0.02~0.19μg/dm3,其中生源钡含量为0.01~0.13μg/dm3,铝含量为0.33~18.54μg/dm3.生源钡和铝元素含量及其比值在水体中的分布特征与悬浮体含量的相对应,分为三段.水体透光层生物作用和近底层底质沉积物再悬浮作用是其在水体表层和近底层显著变化的原因.近底雾状层内生源钡和铝元素含量的比值从水体向底质沉积物中降低,至底质沉积物降到最低,显示出底质沉积物再悬浮对悬浮体组分和含量的影响,可以作为近底雾状层颗粒物质运移的示踪指标.  相似文献

234Th is a particle-reactive radionuclide widely used to trace biogeochemical oceanic processes occurring over short timescales. During the last few years, small-volume techniques based on the co-precipitation of 234Th with MnO2 coupled with beta-counting have been developed as an alternative to large volume gamma-spectrometric techniques. Here a procedure has been developed to enhance quantitative measurement of 234Th in MnO2 precipitates. The main objectives were to obtain a purified Th fraction for beta-counting and to determine the chemical recovery of 234Th using Th spikes and alpha-spectrometry as an alternative to ICP-MS based methods. Two variations of the procedure are presented. In the first “1 spike” method a 230Th tracer is added to the sample prior to precipitation of MnO2, and UTEVA® extraction chromatography is used to obtain a NdF3(Th) purified source that can be used for both beta-counting of 234Th and alpha-spectrometry of 230Th. In the “2 spike” method a 230Th spike is added and the MnO2(Th) precipitate is directly beta-counted for 234Th and subsequently spiked with 228Th or 229Th prior to UTEVA® purification and alpha-spectrometry. The results confirm the need to process small-volume seawater samples for 234Th measurement in presence of a yield tracer, and show that both the 1 spike and 2 spike methods allow an accurate and precise determination of 234Th (relative percent difference, RPD, between expected and mean measured value < 1%; CV between replicate samples < 3%). Our work also suggests that, although the combined analytical uncertainty on total 234Th measurements accomplished with both versions of the NdF3 procedure is promising (6% for 2-L samples), the precision of the 234Th flux estimation will ultimately depend on the degree of disequilibrium between 234Th and 238U.  相似文献

The aim of the investigation was to define the mechanisms of sediment transport in the swash zone of microtidal coarse-clastic beaches in the very short term by evaluating the displacement rates of marked pebbles under low-energy wave conditions. Tests were performed at two sites (Marina di Pisa, Ligurian Sea, and Portonovo, central Adriatic Sea) to check the consistency of the data over a range of different grain sizes. Two recovery campaigns were carried out at both sites, one 6 h and the other 24 h after the injection. During the experiments wave action was at a minimum (wave heights never exceeded 0.3 m). The results show that 20% of pebbles ranging in diameter from 30–90 mm moved significantly (more than 0.5 m) already 6 h after the injection, with some tracers being lost (3%). After 24 h, 40% of the pebbles were significantly displaced and 10% were lost. The preferential downslope movement of tracers, which suggests that coarse sediment movement under low-energy conditions is mainly controlled by gravity processes enhanced by steep beachface slopes, represents the novelty of the results reported here. It would appear that swash processes on low-energy beaches cause a significant rate of pebble displacement through the destabilization induced by wave uprush and backwash. Despite the microtidal range, the position of the mean water level plays a major role in changing the beach level at which swash processes can actually trigger pebble movement. The results of this study show that considerable, and mostly seaward-directed, coarse sediment transport takes place even during short fair-weather periods.  相似文献

海洋沉积物的来源、输运过程及其归宿一直是海洋沉积学的重要研究课题。浙闽沿岸泥区的沉积物主要来自长江及浙闽沿岸的中小河流,对后者的贡献量进行定量化分析是相关研究比较薄弱的环节,这个问题的难点可能是缺乏同时指示"物源"和"供应量"两个指标的示踪物。本文以椒江和瓯江这两条河流对浙闽沿岸泥区的贡献为切入点,运用了粒度端元和黏土矿物两种示踪指标进行研究,目的有两个:一是综合评价两种示踪指标的效率,二是定量化地了解中小河流对浙闽沿岸泥区的贡献。借助端元粒度分析模型对浙闽沿岸泥区的表层样粒度数据进行分解,划分出4个不同的端元,结果显示,EM1端元表现出长江来源的属性,EM2端元表现出椒江和瓯江等沿岸中小河流来源的属性,EM3端元可能来源于研究区南部并有向北输送的趋势,EM4端元可能来源于陆架中部的残留砂沉积区。基于特征粒级的进一步分析表明,研究区6个站位的柱样沉积物中都出现了第一特征粒级,在3.91~9.29 μm之间,推测与长江口外悬浮颗粒物有关,并认为柱样所在的区域都会受到长江入海泥沙的影响。黏土矿物由于具有粒度依赖性,在定量探讨椒江与瓯江的泥沙贡献量时,只能指示小于2 μm的细颗粒物的贡献量,而粒度端元作为一种"全粒度"的指标,在相对封闭的系统内,可以同时解答"从哪里来"和"有多少"这两个示踪问题,是受限比较小的示踪物指标,未来在定量研究物源方面可能会有较大的作用。  相似文献

A simple and effective method of heating divers in extreme cold water has been developed. The local heating concept utilizes a uniformly distributed granular mixture of magnesium and iron particles packed in small sachets. Upon activation by sea water, the two metal mixture behaves as a multitude of short-circuited electrolytic cells, producing thermal energy rather than electrical energy. The 45 mm-square sachets may be placed where heating is required on the diver's body, thus giving rise to the term “local heating”, obviously, the heating system requires no pumping device, or distribution network. Heating rate and duration of output of the sachets are controlled by particle size, and mixture ratio of the constituent Mg and Fe particles.This paper described the development, testing and performance of the heating sachets. Results of live tests in different dive situations are also presented and discussed.  相似文献

The horizontal movement of inertial particles in the intensive vortices, where the centrifugal force can be substantially higher than the gravity, is studied analytically. A similar problem was studied earlier for small (Stokes) particles at low Reynolds number, which allow one to be limited to the linear resistance law. It is shown that the previous results to a great extent can be extrapolated to the case of considerably heavier particles (e.g., water droplets with a diameter up to 1 mm at Reynolds numbers up to 103). The nonlinear nature of the resistance, i.e., its dependence on the particle velocity relative to the medium, should be taken into account for such particles. Some general laws are established for particle dynamics. In particular, their tangential velocity is close to the velocity of the medium, while the radial velocity is substantially lower (it is close on the order of magnitude to the geometric mean of the particle tangential velocity and the difference between the latter and the tangential velocity of the medium). The limits of applicability of the results are found, i.e., the restrictions to the size and mass/density of particles.  相似文献

Since the 1960s, thorium isotopes occupy a special place in the oceanographer's toolbox as tracers for determining rates and mechanisms of oceanic scavenging, particle dynamics, and carbon fluxes. Due to their unique and constant production rates from soluble parent nuclides of uranium and radium, their disequilibrium can be used to calculate rates and time scales of sinking particles. In addition, by ratio-ing particulate 234Th (as well, in principle, other Th-nuclides) to carbon (and other elements), and linking this ratio to the parent–daughter disequilibrium in the water column, it is possible to calculate fluxes of carbon and other elements. Most of these applications are possible with little knowledge of the dissolved chemical properties of thorium, other than its oxidation state (IV) and tendency to strongly sorb to surfaces, i.e., its “particle- or surface-activity”. However, the use of any tracer is hindered by a lack of knowledge of its chemical properties. Recent observations in the variability of carbon to 234Th ratios in different particle types, as well as of associations of Th(IV) with various marine organic biomolecules has led to the need for a review of current knowledge and what future endeavors should be taken to understand the marine chemistry of thorium.  相似文献

Quantitative algorithms for the remote sensing of suspended sediments in shelf seas and estuaries have traditionally sought to relate the signal sensed by the satellite radiometer to the mass of particles in suspension. In situ measurements presented in this paper, however, show that the irradiance reflection coefficient at the sea surface is more closely related to the cross-sectional area of particles in suspension than to their mass. Other optical properties (which in turbid water depend on particle area) can therefore be related directly to the reflection coefficient. To interpret satellite data in terms of mass concentration (for testing numerical models of suspended sediment transport, for example), it is necessary to know the relationship between the area and mass of the particles. For the 2008–2009 dataset presented here for western UK coastal waters, the particle cross-sectional area varies by a factor of 5 for particles of a given size and mass. The causes of this variation are currently poorly understood.  相似文献
