传统上都是使用基于常规波束形成(CBF)输出功率的不同进行声源的被动检测和定位。广义相关波束形成,是一种旨在将平均Toep litz相关函数用于估计波束形成的输出功率。从线性矢量水听器阵出发,分析了常规波束形成,对广义相关波束形成(GCBF)进行了深入研究,通过对广义相关波束形成器进行“W ilson”和“Bartlett”加权,可以分别得到FIM(WFIM)和CBF,对这三种波束形成器进行了理论分析和计算机仿真,结果表明三个波束形成器的分辨能力从高到低依次是:FIM、WFIM、CBF。  相似文献

Acoustic signals received by platform mounted sonar arrays can be spatially processed to enhance the detection of targets in the presence of both ambient and platform generated (self) noise. Ambient noise in the ocean, such as that due to distant shipping or biological choruses, are known to be spatially correlated. The platform generated noise will be of near-field origin and may not be received by all elements in the array. In this paper we investigate the performance of the minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR) beamformer and the recently introduced Fourier integral method (FIM) and compare their performances with the conventional beamformer. Real passive sonar data, obtained from a platform mounted sparse linear array of hydrophones, is used to study the performance of the beamformers in a typical sonar environment. It is shown that in the absence of self noise, when the array is accurately calibrated the MVDR beamformer will perform very well, but when sensor gain or phase errors are present the performance of the MVDR beamformer is degraded. Further, the MVDR beamformer is unable to reject the self noise which is not "seen" by the entire array. FIM however seems to perform well and a modified version of FIM, which we call weighted FIM (WFIM), is shown to perform better and is at worst comparable to a well calibrated MVDR beamformer  相似文献

Increasing the number of hydrophones in an array should increase beamformer performance. However, when the number of hydrophones is large, integration times must be long enough to give accurate cross-spectral matrix (CSM) estimates, but short enough so that the dynamic behavior of the noise described by the CSM is captured. The dominant mode rejection (DMR) beamformer calculates adaptive weights based on a reduced rank CSM estimate, where the CSM estimate is formed with a subset of the largest eigenvalues and their eigenvectors. Since the largest eigenvalue/eigenvector pairs are estimated rapidly, the integration time required is reduced. The purpose of this study was to examine the DMR beamformer performance using a bottom-mounted horizontal line array in a shallow-water environment. The data were processed with a fully adaptive beamformer and the DMR beamformer. The DMR beamformer showed better performance than the fully adaptive beamformer when using arrays with larger numbers of hydrophones. Thus, in highly dynamic noise environments, the DMR beamformer may be a more appropriate implementation to use for passive sonar detection systems  相似文献

Owing to the decametric wavelength, the angular resolution of high-frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR) is usually coarse, especially when dimensions of antenna arrays are restricted such as in shipborne HFSWR applications. In this paper, the relative strength of atmospheric noise and sea clutter that will heavily degrade the capabilities of HFSWR in target detection and resolution are calculated, then a method for estimating the spatial covariance matrix of background noise is presented. By introducing a pre-whitening procedure in multiple signal classification (MUSIC), the resolution performance of MUSIC is enhanced in spatially colored noise environment. Results with data from the aircraft detecting experiment conducted by the Research Institute of Electronic Engineering of Harbin Institute of Technology in 1994 and simulated data of two targets show that pre-whitened MUSIC can provide a better resolution and accurate determination of target number. Furthermore, a post-processing method is proposed to eliminate the sidelobe of spatial spectrum arising from the estimation errors of a noise covariance matrix  相似文献

Conventional detection in active sonar involves comparing the normalized matched filter output power to a fixed preset threshold. Threshold crossings from contacts of interest are labeled as detections and those from undesired clutter echoes as false alarms. To maintain a constant false-alarm rate (CFAR) in the presence of strong transient clutter, the system can either increase the threshold or apply some function that suppresses this background down to an acceptable level. The latter approach leads to a more consistent background on the display, which enables operator-assisted detection. Background clutter suppression should not come at the expense of contact detection; to maximize the probability of detection (PD) for a given probability of false alarm (PFA), the likelihood ratio test (LRT) is used. However, the LRT does not address display issues, since the threshold that achieves a desired PFA varies with the input distribution. Ideally, the LRT output is monotonically transformed using a "statistical normalizer" (SN) that returns a consistent CFAR background without degrading the optimized PD. Within the radar community, clutter suppression is proposed using a LRT tuned to a K-distributed spherically invariant random vector (SIRV) model. However, this model does not lend itself to SN, as a closed-form expression for the LRT output density does not exist. In contrast, the proposed SIRV clutter model, with Pareto distributed power, leads to a closed-form density from which the SN function is readily derived. This combined Pareto-LRT/SN detector nearly matches the optimized PD performance of the K-distributed LRT and maintains a consistent CFAR background for display purposes.  相似文献

A unified treatment for performance evaluation of various array signal processors is presented. Detection performance is expressed in terms of the parameter of the power-type receiver operating characteristic (ROC) for optimum, beamformer, and null-steerer detectors. Estimation performance is analyzed in terms of the normalized mean-square error (MSE) for minimum mean-square error (MMSE) and maximum likelihood estimators (MLE's) under a varying noise environment. Sensitivity of the detection/estimation performance to the varying internal and directional noise sources is investigated. An interesting inverse relationship is presented between the normalized MSE of the MMSE estimator and the power-type ROC parameter for the optimum detector.  相似文献

The use of active sonar in shallow water results in received echoes that may be considerably spread in time compared to the resolution of the transmitted waveform. The duration and structure of the spreading and the time of occurrence of the received echo are unknown without accurate knowledge of the environment and a priori information on the location and reflection properties of the target. A sequential detector based on the Page test is proposed for the detection of time-spread active sonar echoes. The detector also provides estimates of the starting and stopping times of the received echo. This signal segmentation is crucial to allow further processing such as more accurate range and bearing localization, depth localization, or classification. The detector is designed to exploit the time spreading of the received echo and is tuned as a function of range to the expected signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) as determined by the transmitted signal power, transmission loss, approximate target strength, and the estimated noise background level. The theoretical false alarm and detection performance of the proposed detector, the standard Page test, and the conventional thresholded matched filter detector are compared as a function of range, echo duration, SNR, and the mismatch between the actual and assumed SNR. The proposed detector and the standard Page test are seen to perform better than the conventional thresholded matched filter detector as soon as the received echo is minimally spread in time. The use of the proposed detector and the standard Page test in active sonar is illustrated with reverberation data containing target-like echoes from geological features, where it was seen that the proposed detector was able to suppress reverberation generated false alarms that were detected by the standard Page test  相似文献

This communication considers the problem of estimating 2-D directions of arrival (DOAs) of multiple coherent signals under spatially nonuniform noise (spatially inhomogeneous temporary white noise) using an array of vector hydrophones. A novel preprocessing method called particle-velocity-field difference smoothing (PVFDS) is proposed. The key idea underlying the PVFDS is to remove the spatially nonuniform noise by using the matrix difference of pairs of particle-velocity data correlation matrices, and to decorrelate the coherent signals by summing these difference correlation matrices. Unlike most of other existing preprocessing techniques, such as spatial smoothing and forward–backward averaging, the PVFDS processing does not decrease the array aperture. For arbitrary array geometries, the PVFDS can resolve up to four coherent signals, and for centro–symmetric arrays, forward–backward averaging can double this number to eight. Monte Carlo simulations illustrate that the PVFDS-based eigenstructure algorithms can offer better performance than the particle-velocity-field smoothing (PVFS)-based counterparts.   相似文献

The Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD) function was originally proposed by Wigner in quantum mechanics and Ville applied it for signal analysis. This method has made it possible to represent a signal's power density spectrum in the time-frequency domain as a natural extension of the Fourier transform method (FTM). Recently, it has attracted great interest for its validity to analyze time-varying signals accomplished by the development of high-speed digital signal processing, and it is used for analyzing nonstationary signals. Conventionally, a sonar beamformer is constructed using delay lines, but the development of the high-speed processor has made it possible to apply the FTM for sonar beamforming. However, the bearing resolution of the beamformer is not enough for discriminating small underwater objects on the sea bottom by this method. To solve this problem, we aim to apply the WVD method, which can represent finer structure of signals as a natural extension of the FTM, for sonar beamforming to obtain sharper beam patterns than those of the beamforming method by FTM. Simulation results by computational calculations to clarify the resolution by the WVD method, which is presented in this paper, becomes approximately twice as high as by conventional FTM. An optimal evaluation of adaptive beamforming techniques in a reverberation-limited shallow water environment is presented. A comprehensive simulation, using the sonar simulation toolset (SST) software in conjunction with the generic sonar model (GSRT) software, is used to create realistic beam data complete with target, noise, and reverberation. Adaptive beamforming techniques from the recursive least squares (RLS) family are applied to enhance detection performance via interference rejection. Two techniques are considered: linearly constrained beamforming using the minimum variance distortionless response (MVOR) beamformer and constrained adaptive noise cancelling (ANC) using the joint process least squares lattice (JPLSL) algorithm. Target detection trials, summarized in the form of receiver operator characteristics (ROC), are used to evaluate performance of the two adaptive beamformers. It is demonstrated that the random nature of sea clutter may be explained as a chaotic phenomenon. For different sets of real sea clutter data, a correlation dimension analysis is used to show that sea clutter can be embedded in a finite-dimensional space. The result of correlation dimension analysis is used to construct a neural network predictor for reconstructing the dynamics of sea clutter. The deterministic model so obtained is shown to be capable of predicting the evolution of sea clutter. The predictive analysis is also used to analyze the dimension of sea clutter. Using the neural network as an approximation of the underlying dynamics of sea clutter, a dynamic-based detection technique is introduced and applied to the problem of detecting growlers (small fragments of icebergs) in sea clutter. The performance of this method is shown to be superior to that of a conventional detector for the real data sets used here  相似文献

Achieving reliable underwater communication in shallow water is a difficult task because of the random time-varying nature of multipath propagation. When the product of Doppler-related signal bandwidth spread and multipath-related time spread of the channel is larger than one, some types of adaptive signal processing may not work very well. In this paper, various methods of coherent space-time processing are compared for a condition of a marginally overspread channel operating at 50 kHz. Various combinations of suboptimal spatially adaptive and time adaptive methods are considered. The coherent path beamformer (CPB) and recursive least squares (RLS) adaptive beamformer, both in combination with RLS time filtering, are analyzed. Also considered in the analysis is the combined RLS space-time optimal adaptive processor. Many experiments using broad-band phase-shift-keyed transmissions in shallow water have been conducted to provide data for testing these various processing methods. Because of the rapid time variation of the multipath, the product of bandwidth spread and time spread at this test site approached unity. 提出了基于二阶锥规划的空域维纳滤波。基于噪声与阵列流型不相关的特性,将阵列的方向向量作为期望通过二阶锥规划方法对阵列快拍进行维纳滤波。利用维纳滤波抑制噪声的能力,提高阵列的信号检测和方位估计性能。通过仿真研究,验证了单目标时,其低信噪比下的信号检测性能优于Bartlett波束形成,其方位估计的信噪比门限要低于Bartlett波束形成和MUSIC算法,因而是一种优良的波束形成器。该波束形成器用于多波束测深仪和侧扫声纳等海洋测绘设备的阵列,可以有效的提高设备的作用距离和测量精度。  相似文献

Most array-processing methods require knowledge of the correlation structure of the noise. While such information may sometimes be obtained from measurements made when no sources are present, this may not always be possible. Furthermore, measurements made in-situ can hardly be used to analyze system performance before deployment. The development of models of the correlation structure under various environmental assumptions is therefore very important. In this paper, we obtain integral and closed form expressions for the auto- and cross-correlations between the components of an acoustic vector sensor (AVS) for a wideband-noise field, under the following assumptions concerning its spatial distribution: 1) azimuthal independence; 2) azimuthal independence and elevational symmetry; and 3) spherical isotropy. We also derive expressions for the cross-covariances between all components of two spatially displaced AVSs in a narrowband-noise field under the same assumptions. These results can be used to determine the noise-covariance matrix of an array of acoustic vector sensors in ambient noise. We apply them to a uniform linear AVS array to asses its beamforming capabilities and localization accuracy, via the Cramer-Rao bound, in isotropic and anisotropic noise  相似文献

During maneuvering, towed array beamforming degrades if a straight array is assumed. This is especially true for high-resolution adaptive beamforming. It is experimentally demonstrated that adaptive beamforming is feasible on a turning array, provided that array shape is estimated. The array shape can be inferred solely from the coordinates of the tow vessel's Global Positioning System (GPS) without any instrumentation in the array. Based on estimated array shape from the GPS, both the conventional beamformer and the white noise constrained (WNC) adaptive beamformer are shown to track the source well during a turn. When calculating the weight vector in the WNC approach, a matrix inversion of the cross-spectral density matrix is involved. This matrix inversion can be stabilized by averaging the cross-spectral density matrix over neighboring frequencies. The proposed algorithms have been tested on real data with the tow-vessel making 45/spl deg/ turns with a 500-m curvature radius. While turning, the improvement in performance over the assumption of a straight array geometry was up to 5 dB for the conventional beamformer and considerably larger for the WNC adaptive beamformer.  相似文献

Recently, neural networks have been proposed for radar clutter modeling because of the inherent nonlinearity of clutter signals. This paper performs an analysis of the practicality of using a radial basis function (RBF) neural network to model sea clutter and to detect small target embedded in sea clutter. An experiment using an instrumental quality radar was carried out on the eastcoast of Canada to create a rich sea clutter and small surface target database. This database contains both staring and scanning data under various environmental conditions. Using data-sets with different characteristics, we investigate the effects of quantization error, measurement noise, generalization of the neural net over ranges and sampling rate on the RBF clutter model. Despite these physical limitations, the RBF model was shown to approach an optimal predictive performance. The RBF predictor was also applied to detect various small targets in this database based on the constant false alarm rate (CFAR) principle. This RBF-CFAR detector was demonstrated to be able to detect small floating targets even in rough sea conditions  相似文献

A numerical optimization technique that uses sonar array noise measurements is used to determine conventional shading weights that maximize the broadband deflection coefficient at the output of the optimal square-law detector, across a frequency band of interest. This process maintains the structure of the conventional processor while providing performance improvement typical of adaptive techniques. The performance of the optimized time domain delay-and-sum beamformer is compared with that of the traditional beamformer that uses conventionally chosen shading weights. Application of this method to conformal velocity sonar array data is shown to provide large improvements in performance over heuristic designs.  相似文献

对于海底地形测量,基于FT波束形成的幅度检测法空间分辨率较低,只能较准确给出有限测点的水深信息;平坦海底前提下,分裂子阵检测法或多子阵检测法可以得到连续测点的水深信息,复杂海底地形条件下,这两种方法均难以应用。能否利用高分辨率波束形成器来提高测深系统的空间分辨率是一个值得研究的问题。使用ESPRIT波束形成器处理了多波束测深系统的试验数据,并就其性能与FT波束形成器进行了比较与分析。  相似文献

This paper presents a new bearings-only method of detecting and tracking low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) wideband targets on a constant course and velocity trajectory. A track-before-detect strategy based on matched velocity filtering is adopted using spatial images constructed from a sequence of power bearing map (PBM) estimates accumulated during a track. To lower the threshold SNR for detection, a discrete bank of matched velocity filters integrates the PBM images over a range of hypothesized trajectories, such an approach eliminates the need to estimate the number of targets since signal detection is determined by comparing the output of each matched filter (MF) to a decision threshold. The distribution of the MF output is derived based on a single point target in diffuse noise assumption. Receiver operating characteristic curves show a definite detection gain under low SNR conditions for matched velocity filtering (track-before-detect) over detection from a single PBM  相似文献
