The natural radioactivity due to radium, thorium, and potassium in building material samples contribute to the radiation dose received by human beings significantly. It is essential to evaluate the activity levels of these nuclides for the assessment of natural radiation dose. Activity concentrations of the gamma emitting primordial radionuclides 232Th, 226Ra, and 40K were measured using high resolution gamma spectrometry technique with high purity germanium (HPGe) detector in building materials: sand, brick, granite, cement and rock, collected from various areas of Gulbarga and Koppal districts. The standard ASTM procedure was followed for the sample preparation. The distribution of radionuclides and variation in activity concentration depend upon the rock formation and the geological properties of the region. The activity of the three radionuclides, 232Th, 226Ra, and 40K, were found to be in the range of 3.1–227.1, 1.6–111, and 23.2–1505 Bq/kg, respectively. The dose related radiological parameters were also calculated for all the samples and the observations show that the activity concentrations of the radionuclides are well within the UNSCEAR limits.  相似文献

This study shows the assessment of radiation hazard parameters due to terrestrial radionuclides in the soil around artisanal gold mining for addressing the issue of natural radioactivity in mining areas. Hence, the levels 238U, 232Th, 40K and 226Ra in soil (using gamma spectrometry), 222Rn in soil and 222Rn in air were determined. Radiation hazard parameters were then computed. These include absorbed dose D, annual effective dose E, radium equivalent activity Raeq, external hazard Hex, annual gonadal dose equivalent hazard index AGDE and excess lifetime cancer risk ELCR due to the inhalation of radon (222Rn) and consumption of radium (226Ra) in vegetation. Uranium (238U), thorium (232Th) and potassium (40K) averages were, respectively, 26, 36 and 685 Becquerel per kilogram (Bq kg?1). Soil radon (4671 Bq m?3) and radon in air (14.77 Bq m?3) were found to be less than worldwide data. Nevertheless, the average 40K concentration was 685 Bq kg?1. This is slightly higher than the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation average value of 412 Bq kg?1. The obtained result indicates that some of the radiation hazard parameters seem unsavory. The mean value of absorbed dose rate (62.49 nGy h?1) was slightly higher than average value of 57 nGy h?1 (~?45% from 40K), and that of AGDE (444 μSv year?1) was higher than worldwide average reported value (300 μSv year?1). This study highlights the necessity to launch extensive nationwide radiation protection program in the mining areas for regulatory control.  相似文献

The radionuclides of potassium (40 K), uranium (238U) and thorium (232Th) emit from the land surface gamma radiation that is characteristic of the underlying rocks and the distribution of their weathering products in the landscape. We measured the radiation along widely separated transects using a mobile proximal sensor over a 10 000‐ha region of Tasmania. We supplemented the transect data with information from soil and geological maps and dense data from LandSat and SPOT imagery, a digital elevation model and terrain attributes on a grid at 30‐m intervals so as to map the radionuclides. We used a sequence of steps, starting with a spatial bootstrap and random forests to predict emissions across the study area and at sampling points excluded from the bootstrap samples. The predictions at the sampling points were compared with the observed values to obtain residuals, which were then used to krige them at all points on the 30 m grid. We combined the random forest and kriging predictions on the 30‐m grid to obtain our random forest kriging predictions. Repeating the procedure 100 times provided confidence limits on our results and predictions. The resulting maps of the radionuclides accord well with what we know of the soil, lithology and topography of the region from other sources. Alluvial deposits with large amounts of potassium extend from the foot slopes of the Great Western Tiers and along the flood plains of the Meander River, providing evidence of previous widespread weathering and deposition of the material. The fertile Red Ferrosols (roughly equivalent to Ferralic Nitisols in the World reference base (WRB) classification) on the extensive Tertiary basalt plateau emit little gamma radiation as a result of deep weathering and of potassium movement and accumulation down its talus slopes. The maps show the complexity of the region in terms of soil, lithology and terrain, and they show the merits of gamma radiometry for mapping and understanding the distribution of materials in such regions. A reconnaissance study has been made of the distribution of 238U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs and geochemical features in soils and sediments samples at various locations in the northwestern coast of Persian Gulf. Activity concentration levels due to radionuclides were measured in 30 soil and sediment samples collected from this region. From the measured spectra, activity concentrations were determined for 40K (range from 146 to 500 Bq kg(-1)), 137Cs (from 5 to 20 Bq kg(-1)), 238U (from 21 to 65 Bq kg(-1)) and 232Th (from 15 to 45 Bq kg(-1)) with lowest limit detection (LLD) of 68, 3.2, 4.3 and 4.3 Bq kg(-1), respectively. The dose rate from ambient air at the soil ranges was between 19 and 58 nGy h(-1) with an average of 37.41+/-9.66 nGy h(-1).  相似文献

Radioecological studies were carried out in a territory polluted by 90Sr delivered by groundwater after leakage from a tank in a near-surface radioactive waste repository. The layer-by-layer vertical distribution of 90Sr in soil down to 3 m is analyzed. The area of radioactive pollution above the minimal significant activity level (1 Bq/kg by NRB-99/2009) in the examined soil layers decrease with depth as follows: 1808 m2 at 0–5 cm, 302 m2 at 5–10 cm, and 181 m2 at 10–15 cm. The accumulation of 90Sr takes place at a natural sorption geochemical barrier—a swampy area in a near-terrace depression. The radiation dozes were calculated for terrestrial mollusk of Bradybaena fruticum, accumulating strontium in its shell; the doses are in excess of the screening value of 2.4 μGr/day in 41% of the territory. This is higher than the acceptable risk level (5%) for this mollusk population. An excess of the intervention level for 90Sr was recorded in both subsurface and surface waters in this geosystem during winter and summer dry seasons and autumn showers.  相似文献

The activities of the natural radionuclides (238U, 232Th, 226Ra and 40K) of the surface sediments in the Yangtze Estuary were determined and used to evaluate radiation hazards in the study area. The of activities of 238U, 232Th, 226Ra and 40K ranges from 14.1 to 62.3, 26.1 to 71.9, 13.7 to 52.3, and 392 to 898 Bq kg? 1, respectively, which were comparable to values of other regions in China. The activities of 232Th, 40K and 226Ra were clearly different from the global recommended values. The radium equivalent activity was less than the recommended limit of 370 Bq kg? 1; therefore, the sediment in this area can be safely used for reclamation. The external hazard index values were less than one. The average absorbed gamma dose rate and annual effective dose equivalent values were slightly greater than the world average value. 226Ra/238U and 232Th/238U ratios could potentially be applied for tracing sediment source.  相似文献

Previously, little attention has been paid to terrestrial radioisotopes (U, Th, 40K) occurring in manganese ores, despite the fact that the biogeochemical relationship between Mn and U is versatile. Occurrence of terrestrial radioisotopes in great amounts during mining on a long-term causes significant radiation exposure. It is important to inspect black shale-hosted manganese ores from this aspect, as black shales are typically potential U-rich formations. Despite the increased radon concentration in the mine, based on the detailed major elements, trace elements and gamma spectroscopy inspection of the rock types of deposit, the U, Th enrichment was undetectable. However, the U and Th content of about average terrestrial abundance of the great ore amount may be in the background of the increased radon concentration level. This Mn-carbonate ore deposit in spite of the low U content exhibit potential radon danger for miners, which can be eliminated with intensive air change only.  相似文献

The sorption behavior of radionuclides depends on the content of minerals in geological media. The sorption of radionuclides on minerals has been interpreted as the uptake on the sorption sites on mineral surfaces. However, conventional investigations such as X-ray diffraction analysis cannot avoid large errors in quantification of minerals. Furthermore, the discrepancies of sorption behavior have been often found even on the same kind of minerals. Therefore, the sorption site capacity cannot be effectively estimated by the quantification of minerals. In this study, the sorption site on sedimentary rock sampled in Horonobe area, where the Horonobe Underground Research Center, JAEA, is located, was estimated from the Cs sorption isotherms obtained by sorption experiments. To deduce the fitting parameters, illite content estimated from the amount of extracted K by alkylammonium treatment and smectite content estimated from the cation exchange capacity measurement were introduced to the fitting procedure. The result shows that the sorption site capacities of smectite and illite in the sedimentary rock in Horonobe area are 1.3–1.7 × 10−4 and 1.4–4.0 × 10−5 eq/g, respectively.  相似文献

In order to increase the efficiency of geological survey in difficult landscape‐morphological conditions, the authors have developed low‐altitude gamma technology surveys based on a multi‐rotor unmanned aircraft system, also known informally as Drones. These results have been compared against those from standard terrestrial and aerial gamma surveys. The successful results obtained at the reference site show that the developed methodology enables compilation of high‐quality data in difficult landscape conditions. These results yield the same level of information content as standard terrestrial gamma surveys. The exact unmanned aircraft system altitude over the earth must be maintained for carrying out high‐quality surveys. It was found that a CsI(Tl) detector with sizes 80 × 80 mm (vol. 0.4 dm3) enables obtaining of high‐quality radiometric data at altitudes of up to 70 m, at a speed of at least 20 km/h. The authors believe that low altitude ‘quasi‐terrestrial’ gamma surveys with a terrain drape may in the future replace terrestrial gamma surveys since they can offer better effectiveness at a lower cost.  相似文献

The contamination of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) in soils, plants, and terrestrial fauna from a former pesticide-producing area in Southwest China was investigated. High levels of OCP residues (ΣHCHs and ΣDDTs of 3.89–13,386 and 23.3–11,186 ng g?1 dw, respectively) were found in the soils within the producing factory, indicating that the former pesticide factory brownfield site poses a high environment risk and that effective soil remediation is needed. The OCP concentrations in soils surrounding the pesticide factory were 1–2 orders of magnitude higher than in the other agricultural areas from China. Grass, vegetables, and tree leaves from the surrounding areas of the point source showed moderate OCP pollution, which was likely to be causing potential negative impacts on terrestrial ecosystem. OCP levels in terrestrial species from the studied area including insects, free-range chickens and birds were moderate, and were generally within accepted safe levels. β-HCH was the most prevalent isomer, implying that hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) residues were mainly derived from the degradation of technical HCH. The dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) profiles reflected obvious degradation of technical DDT. In the study area, the concentrations of HCBD were <0.02–5.59, 0.03–24.6 ng g?1 dw and 1.65–3.80 ng g?1 lw in soils, plants, and animals, respectively, which were relatively low and not sufficient to cause observable adverse biological effects.  相似文献

The field radiometric and laboratory measurements were performed at the Sin Quyen copper deposit in North Vietnam. The field gamma-ray spectrometry indicated the concentration of uranium ranging from 5.5 to 87 ppm, thorium from 5.6 to 33.2 ppm, and potassium from 0.3 to 4.7%. The measured dose rates ranged from 115 to 582 nGy/h, the highest doses being at the copper ore. Concentrations in the solid samples were in the range of 20–1700 Bq/kg for uranium, 20–92.7 Bq/kg for thorium, and 7–1345 Bq/kg for potassium. The calculated doses were from 22 to 896 nGy/h; both measured and calculated dose rates are mostly related to uranium. Concentrations of radium in water samples were below 0.17 Bq/L. Uranium in water samples was significantly higher than the hydrogeological background; the maximum of 13 Bq/L was at the waste zone pool, but neither radium nor uranium were present in tap water. Radon concentration in the dwelling air was from 42 to 278 Bq/m3 for 222Rn and from 8 to 193 Bq/m3 for 220Rn. The estimated committed dose rates were principally related to 222Rn concentration and ranged from 1.1 to 8.1 mSv/y.  相似文献

Radionuclides which present in different beach sands are sources of external exposure that contribute to the total radiation exposure of human. 226Ra, 235U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs analysis has been carried out in sand samples collected at six depth levels, from eight locations of the northern coast of Iran, Ramsar, using high-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy. The average Specific activities of natural radionuclides viz., 226Ra, 235U, 232Th, 40K and 137Cs, in the 0–36 cm depth sand were found as: 19.2 ± 0.04, 2.67 ± 0.17, 17.9 ± 0.06, 337.5 ± 0.61 and 3.35 ± 0.12 Bq kg−1, respectively. The effects of organic matter content and pH value of sand samples on the natural radionuclide levels were also investigated. Finally, the measured radionuclide concentrations in the Ramsar beach were compared with the world average values, as reported by UNSCEAR (2000). None of the studied beaches were considered as a radiological risk.  相似文献

One of the most severe industrial catastrophes happened in Kolontár, Hungary, on 4 October 2010. Red mud (bauxite residue) broke through the eroded wall of the red mud reservoir pond “Number X” and flooded the surrounding area. This led to the instant death of 10 people and the injury of more than 100 people. Red mud is enriched in radium and thorium isotopes; therefore, there is a chance that this flooding will increase radionuclide concentrations of soils and also in air. In this study we have examined the site to assess the realistic radiological risks. For the risk assessment the following parameters were determined: gamma dose rate, radon concentration, radionuclide concentration of red mud and air dust concentration. It was found that the radiation dose exposure resulting from red mud contamination was < 0.045 mSv y?1 (excluding radon), which can be considered negligible when compared to the average annual effective dose from natural sources (2.4 mSv y?1).  相似文献

This study aimed to understand changes in the biogeochemical processing of organic matter (OM) in response to multiple stressors (e.g., littoral area expansion, wastewater input, and hydrological regulation) in East Dongting Lake (Central China) over the past 60 years, using analyses of total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), C/N ratios, δ13C, δ15N, and diatoms from 2 sediment cores collected from the littoral and central parts of the lake. OM mainly originated from phytoplankton and C3 plant‐derived soil OM based on the ranges of C/N ratios (from 7 to 11) and δ13C (between ?27‰ and ?23‰). Littoral area expansion due to siltation caused an increasing influx of terrestrial soil OM in the 1980s and the 1990s, subsequently lowering δ13C values and rising C/N ratios in both sediment cores. Meanwhile, higher δ15N was linked to a high influx of isotopically heavy nitrate from urban and agricultural wastewaters. After 2000, slight decreases in TOC and TN in the littoral area were attributable to reducing inputs of external OM, likely linked to declining sediment influx from the upper reaches resulting from the Three Gorges Dam impoundment. Contrasting increases in TOC, TN, and C/N ratios in the central part indicated a high influx of terrestrial soil OM due to the declining distance from the shoreline with littoral area expansion. Declining δ15N values after 2000 indicated an increase in N2‐fixing cyanobacteria with eutrophication. Changes in diatom assemblages in both the littoral and central zones reflected nutrient enrichment and hydrological alterations. These results indicate that littoral expansion, declining riverine influx, and anthropogenic nutrient inputs are potential driving forces for the biogeochemical processing of OM in floodplain lakes. This study provides sedimentary biogeochemical clues for tracking past limnological conditions of floodplain lakes that are subjected to increasing disturbances from hydrological regulation and eutrophication.  相似文献

由于气候干旱、大量疏排地下水导致草原露天煤矿区普遍存在着水文循环失调、土壤沙化、草地退化等环境地质问题.本研究以呼伦贝尔草原伊敏露天煤矿为研究对象,在对矿区地下水湖泊系统调查分析的基础上,结合水文、气象及遥感影像等数据,应用水均衡原理构建矿区地下水位湖泊面积响应机制的数学模型,并利用此模型预测分析矿区开发对伊敏盆地内湖泊面积的影响.结果表明:煤矿开采35年来,伊敏盆地湖群数量由开采前(1982年)的5个变为如今(2017年)的2个,湖泊总面积由原来的6.94 km 2萎缩到1.12 km 2;矿区地下水湖泊关系由自然状态下的地下水补给湖泊型向湖泊补给地下水型演化;本文建立的地下水湖泊耦合数学模型可较好地对湖泊面积进行预测,在气候因素波动不大、矿山开发稳定的状况下,该矿闭矿时(2045年)研究区湖泊面积将萎缩至0.56 km^2.  相似文献

水库近岸湿地(消落区)温室气体(CO2、CH4)产汇是水库温室气体效应问题的重要组成部分.本文以三峡水库支流澎溪河的白家溪、养鹿两处大面积消落区为研究对象,于2010年6 9月水库低水位运行期间,对近岸消落区土-气界面CO2、CH4通量进行监测.白家溪消落区土-气界面CO2通量均值为12.38±2.42 mmol/(m2·h);CH4通量均值为0.0112±0.0064 mmol/(m2·h).养鹿消落区CO2、CH4通量均值分别为10.54±5.17、0.14±0.16 mmol/(m2·h).总体上,6 9月土-气界面CO2通量呈增加趋势,而CH4通量水平呈现显著的递减趋势.消落区土地出露后植被恢复,在一定程度上促进了土壤有机质含量的增加,使得6 9月CO2释放通量的总体趋势有所增加.消落区退耕后,其甲烷氧化菌的活性得到恢复,加之在土地出露曝晒过程中土壤透气性增强,使得消落区土壤对大气中CH4吸收氧化潜势增强.尽管如此,仍需进一步的研究以明晰消落区土-气界面CO2、CH4产汇的主要影响因素.  相似文献

An estimated 3.5 ± 0.7 × 1015 Bq of 137Cs is thought to have been discharged into the ocean following the melt down at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (F1NPP). While efforts have been made to monitor seafloor radiation levels, the sampling techniques used cannot capture the continuous distribution of radionuclides. In this work, we apply in situ measurement techniques using a towed gamma ray spectrometer to map the continuous distribution of 137Cs on the seafloor within 20 km of the F1NPP. The results reveal the existence of local 137Cs anomalies, with levels of 137Cs an order of magnitude higher than the surrounding seafloors. The sizes of the anomalies mapped in this work range from a few meters to a few hundreds of meters in length, and it is demonstrated that the distribution of these anomalies is strongly influenced by meter scale features of the terrain.  相似文献

Land use and land cover in China have changed greatly during the past 300 a, indicated by the rapid abrupt decrease of forest land area and the rapid increase of cropland area, which can affect terrestrial carbon cycle greatly. The first-hand materials are used to analyze main characteristics for land use and land cover changes in China during the study period. The following conclusions can be drawn from this study. The cropland area in China kept increasing from 60.78×106 hm2 in 1661 to 96.09×106 hm2 in 1998. Correspondingly, the forest land area decreased from 248.13×106 hm2 in 1700 to 109.01×106 hm2 in 1949. Affected by such changes, the terrestrial ecosystem carbon storage decreased in the mean time. Car-bon lost from land use and land cover changes mainly consist of the loss from vegetation biomass and soil. In the past 300 a, about 3.70 PgC was lost from vegetation biomass, and emissions from soil ranged from 0.80 to 5.84 PgC. The moderate evaluation of soil losses was 2.48 PgC. The total loss from vegetation and soil was between 4.50 and 9.54 PgC. The moderate and optimum evaluation was 6.18 PgC. Such carbon losses distribution varied spatially from region to region. Carbon lost more significantly in Northeast China and Southwest China than in other regions, because losses of forest land in these two regions were far greater than in the other regions during the past 300 a. And losses of carbon in the other regions were also definite, such as Inner Mongolia, the western part of South China, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. But the carbon lost very little from the traditional agricultural regions in China, such as North China and East China. Studies on the relationship between land use and land cover change and carbon cycle in China show that the land use activities, especially those related to agriculture and forest management, began to affect terrestrial carbon storage positively in recent years.  相似文献

Soil is an essential resource for human livelihoods. Soil erosion is now a global environmental crisis that threatens the natural environment and agriculture. This study aimed to assess the annual rate of soil erosion using distributed information for topography, land use and soil, with a remote sensing (RS) and geographical information system (GIS) approach and comparison of simulated with observed sediment loss. The Shakkar River basin, situated in the Narsinghpur and Chhindwara districts of Madhya Pradesh, India, was selected for this study. The universal soil loss equation (USLE) with RS and GIS was used to predict the spatial distribution of soil erosion occurring in the study area on a grid-cell basis. Thematic maps of rainfall erosivity factor (R), soil erodibility factor (K), topographic factor (LS), crop/cover management factor (C), and conservation/support practice factor (P) were prepared using annual rainfall data, soil map, digital elevation model (DEM) and an executable C++ program, and a satellite image of the study area in the GIS environment. The annual rate of soil erosion was estimated for a 15-year period (1992–2006) and was found to vary between 6.45 and 13.74 t ha?1 year?1, with an average annual rate of 9.84 t ha?1 year?1. The percentage deviation between simulated and observed values varies between 2.68% and 18.73%, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.874.  相似文献

An26Al survey by non-destructive gamma ray spectrometry was conducted as part of the preliminary examination effort for Antarctic meteorites. A total of 220 samples were studied. The majority of the samples were from the Allan Hills area; however, samples from several other sites, including the Yamato Mountains, were studied. Compared to worldwide falls and finds, the Antarctic group shows a clear trend toward lower26Al levels. At leasr 10% of the samples studied were clearly undersaturated in26Al. The frequency of undersaturated samples suggests that terrestrial ages of several hundred thousand years are common among the Antarctic meteorite collection. The absence of samples with extremely low26Al implies that the upper limit for terrestrial ages in the Antarctic is on the order of 1 million years.  相似文献
