Near-infrared photometric and low-resolution spectroscopic observations of Aurigae at two phases during the current eclipse are presented. The eclipse depths are found to be wavelength-independent in the infrared right up to 2.5 m. There is no infrared excess at wavelengths shorter than 2.5 m. The light absorbing particles in the eclipsing body must be larger than 10 m in size.  相似文献

Standard UBV light curves of eclipsing binary star GO CYGNUS havebeen presented. These light curves indicate a Lyrae typevariations with circular orbit. Recent observations of the eclipsing system of Aurigae converge to a conclusion that its secondary (invisible) component constitutes a flat disc, some 40 AU across, which is semitransparent, of constant optical depth, and dims light non-selecting without a trace of polarization. Its constituent particles must, therefore, be large in comparison with the wavelength of observation — probably greater, on the average, than 10 ; with no upper limit imposed by the observations. The mass of this disc appears to be no less than 20 ; and its mean temperature, approximately 500K.The primary component of Aurigae is an F2 Ia supergiant, probably less than one million years old; while its less massive (and, consequently, less evolved) companion has not yet reached a stellar stage. The external characteristics of this disc-like companion appear to approximate the properties that have frequently been postulated as pre-requisites for the formation of a planetary system. A hypothesis is put forward that, in the secondary component of Aurigae, we witness at present, an evolutionary process that may result in the formation of a planetary system very much more massive than our own in the astronomically near future.With a possible exception of S Doradus, which according to Gaposchkin (1943) is an eclipsing variable with a period of 40.2 y.  相似文献

The author considers current problems in the determination of the orbital and physical parameters for active close binaries (CB) of W Ser type based on the interpretation of photometric observations (Djuraevi, 1991). In this particular case, one analyses the light curves of CB SX Cas in the framework of the accretion-disc model explained in the second paper of this series (Djuraevi, 1992a). The light curve is analysed by applying the inverse-problem method described in the third paper of the series (Djuraevi, 1992b). On the basis of the observational material in theB andV filters (Shao, 1967), the light curves, the fundamental orbital and physical parameters of the system are estimated. In the paper a graphical illustration of the obtained solutions is also given. The obtained results confirm the general picture about the active processes in CB of W Ser type.  相似文献

Linear limb-darkening coefficientsu required in the analysis of eclipsing binary curves, are tabulated for a wide range of effective temperature (50 000° to 4000°), wavelength (0.2 2.2 ), and gravitiesg (2.0logg5.0). The computation is based on the comprehensive range of model atmospheres of Carbon and Gingerich (1969).The results are compared with the theoretical values of Hosokawa (1957), Kopal (1959) and Grygaret al. (1972), and examined in relation to empirically determined values ofu from analyses of eclipsing binary light curves. An improved agreement between theory and observation for the calculated limb-darkening coefficients of the present work is noted.  相似文献

UBV light curves of the early type close eclipsing binary system SZ Cam have been investigated using recently developed frequency-domain techniques. The combination of both minima in the analysis results in a distinct methodological improvement over the single minimum method discussed hitherto. This improvement has two aspects: (i) increased accuracy of the determined elements, (ii) agreement of the results of the two-minimum method with those of the single-minimum method provides a criterion whereby the self-consistency of the underlying model with its representation of the light curve in the regions between minima by a cosine series and the empirically determined coefficients of such a series may be assessed. Such a self-consistent solution is found, and a further step towards a realistic representation is made by including the photometric perturbations. It is confirmed from these three light curves that the less massive star is overluminous. A probable tendency for the limb-darkening coefficient of the more massive star to increase with decreasing wavelength is also noted.  相似文献

The aim of the present paper has been to analyse the light changes of the close eclipsing system AK Herculis in the frequency domain. This analysis is based on Kopal's new theory recently developed for the study of light variations—between minima as well as within eclipses—of close eclipsing binaries whose components are distorted by axial rotation and mutual tidal action.A new method for the separation of the photometric proximity and eclipse effects directly from the observed data is also presented. In this method no rectification is needed. New elements taking into account the photometric perturbations are also given.  相似文献

This analysis is based on Kopal's new theory for the study of the light variations, between minima as well as within eclipses, of eclipsing binaries whose components undistorted or distorted by axial rotation and mutual tidal action.A method for the distinguishing of the photometric proximity and eclipse effects directly from the observed data is also presented. In this method no rectification is needed. The automated method has been tested successfully on the light curves of PV Cassiopeiae. Finally, a comparative discussion is given of Kopal's and Kitamura's methods of the light curves analysis.  相似文献

The proximity effects in the light curves of close binary systems are investigated with the aid of facilities provided by a high-speed, digital computer. The treatment follows, to a large extent, that summarized by Kopal (1959) and makes extensive use of the alpha-functions and related integrals provided by that author. The ellipticity and reflection effects are studied individually and different expressions are checked and compared. Test data are drawn continually from the well known system SZ Cam for which a rectified (in a more realistic sense) light curve is ultimately produced.  相似文献

It is found that the relationship between the potential energy and the moment of the inertia independent of the radial mass distribution obtained earlier for the sphere also holds in the case of the ellipsoidal mass distribution for the ellipsoid of rotation.The possibility of application of the energy virial relations for solution of the evolutionary problems of the gravitating gaseous sphere, with the help of the relationship found earlier, is demonstrated. The physical conditions on the gaseous sphere boundary are introduced. The existence of two branches of evolution, the proton one and the electron one, is established. The problem of the gravitational contraction velocity during sphere evolution is solved. The relationship between the boundary temperature and the gaseous sphere radius as well as between the luminosity and the body mass is obtained. Some limiting relations for the final stage of the gaseous sphere evolution are found.

TheUBV light curves of Duerbeck and Karimie (1979) for the southern eclipsing binary RT Sculptoris were analysed using information limit optimizing computer programs. We decide in favour of the transit primary minimum hypothesis. The system is found to be semi-detached, but in the rare primary contact configuration. This implies a fast mass transfer process. Our derived picture of the system broadly corroborates that of Hilditch and King (1986), but our analysis includes a detailed treatment of the hot spot. We also report on recent spectroscopic radial velocity data obtained at Mt. Stromlo, Canberra. The system provides an important case study for low mass close binary research.  相似文献

Orbital stability of quasiperiodic motions in the many dimensional autonomic hamiltonian systems is considered. Studied motions are supposed to be not far from equilibrium, the number of their basic frequencies may be not equal to the number of degrees of freedom, and the procedure of their construction is supposed to be converged. The stability problem is solved in the strict nonlinear mode.Obtained results are used in the stability investigation of small plane motions near the lagrangian solutions of the three-dimensional circular restricted three-body problem. The values of parameters for which the plane motions are unstable have been found.

In this paper the star characteristics (luminosities, spectra, masses, absolute and relative radii of the components, mass ratio, major semiaxis, and orbital inclination) of close binary systems (CBS) with detached components are compared element-by-element. Svechnikov and Perevozkina's Catalog of the orbital elements, masses, and luminosities of pre-main sequence-type eclipsing variable stars with known photometric and spectroscopic elements and Svechnikov and Kuznetsova's Catalog of approximate photometric and absolute elements of eclipsing variable stars are used as initial data. The orbital elements contained in the first catalog are determined from solutions of the known photometric light curves and the known radial velocity curves, while the orbital elements for the second catalog were estimated using data from the General Catalog of Variable Stars (GCVS) IV employing approximate statistical relationships such as mass-radius, mass-luminosity, and mass-spectrum, along with the dependence of the orbital inclination on the depth of the principal minimum and others. Possible reasons for discrepancies among the compared quantities are discussed.  相似文献

B, V observations of the eclipsing binary RS CVn have been presented. A dip around 0 p . I appears to be a wave minimum which fits well in the Wave minimum phase-time relation, but deviates from the Wave aplitude-time relation, derived for the RS CVn. Either, the Wave amplitude-time relation requires a modification or the amplitude of the wave minmum appears masked by the intrinsic variability of one of the components or by the Sun-spot activity of the system. The colour exhibits variation. The secondary component appears active.  相似文献

This paper is a continuation and a generalization of one published earlier (Duboshin, 1969): it discusses the problem whether there exist the Lagrangian and the Eulerian solutions of the generalized three-body (material points) problem. Every point in this generalized problem acts on another, one with a force (attractive or repulsive) directed along the straight line passing through these points, and in an arbitrary manner depending on time, mutual distance and its derivatives, the first and the second. Here, generally speaking, the third axiom of dynamics (law of action and reaction) is not presupposed as fulfilled, that is, it is supposed that every two material points interact in a different way.This most general assumption being made, we establish the conditions which must dictate the laws of the interactions, so that the three points can always remain at the apexes of the equilateral triangle (Langrangian solution), or remain always on a straight line (Eulerian solution).The author believes that such general treatment of the three-body problem can be useful for theoretical studies in celestial mechanics and also for practical applications in the study of isolated stellar systems.

Close relation is shown to exist between the problems of transfer of line radiation and the stable distributions of the probability theory. This relation is used as a basis of a new method for the investigation of the asymptotic properties of the radiation field far from the sources.

The interaction processes governing the penetration of the interstellar gas into the solar neighbourhood are re-examined — as well as photo-ionization and charge-exchange processes, proton elastic collisions and electron ionizations help reduce the nearby gas densities. The total destruction rate varies little during the solar cycle, by perhaps 10%. Particle heating, particularly via the elastic collisions, determines the gas characteristics in the gravitationally focussed tail—enhanced H-density is prevented, while the He-tail is effectively hotter than 103 K.Termination of the solar wind is rediscussed in the light of both electron heating and the stronger gas/plasma interaction. The spiral interplanetary field is taken to break up and the subsonic plasma flow to be controlled by the pressure of slowly cooling electrons. The terminating collisionless shock is then, if it exists at all, very weak (M 1<1.4), subcritical, and energetically unimportant. Cosmic rays are little affected by this sonic transition, but at least the electron component should be modulated by plasma turbulence throughout the ionizing flow.
