Transient Electromagnetic (TEM), known also as Time Domain Electromagnetic (TDEM) and Magnetic Resonance Sounding (MRS) methods were applied jointly to investigate variations in lithology and groundwater salinity in the Nahal Hever South area (Dead Sea coast of Israel). The subsurface in this area is highly heterogeneous and composed of intercalated sand and clay layers over a salt formation, which is partly karstified. Groundwater is very saline, with a chloride concentration of 100–225 g/l. TEM is known as an efficient tool for investigating electrically conductive targets like saline water, but it is sensitive to both the salinity of groundwater and the porosity of rocks. MRS, however, is sensitive primarily to groundwater volume, but it also allows delineating of lithological variations in water-saturated formations. MRS is much less sensitive to variations in groundwater salinity in comparison with TEM. We show that MRS enables us to resolve the fundamental uncertainty in TEM interpretation caused by the equivalence between groundwater resistivity and lithology. Combining TEM and MRS, we found that the sandy Dead Sea aquifer filled with Dead Sea brine is characterized by a bulk resistivity of ρx > 0.4 Ωm, whereas zones with silt and clay in the subsurface are characterized by a bulk resistivity of ρx < 0.4 Ωm. These observations are confirmed by calibration of the TEM method performed near 18 boreholes.  相似文献

Oxygen isotope systematics for co-existing pairs of gem-spinel and calcite in marble from Vietnam and other worldwide deposits have been determined in order to characterize the O-isotope fractionation between calcite and spinel. In Vietnam, the Δ18Occ–sp (= 3.7 ± 0.1‰ for six samples from the An Phu and Cong Troi deposits) is remarkably constant. The combination of these data with those obtained on calcite–spinel pairs of Paigutan (Nepal, n = 2), Ipanko (Tanzania, n = 1), and Mogok (Myanmar, = 2) are also consistent with an overall Δ18Occ–sp of 3.6 ± 0.3‰ for all the spinel samples (n = 11). The straight line correlation δ18Occ = 0.96 δ18Osp + 4.4 is excellent despite their worldwide geographic spread. The increment method of calculating oxygen isotope fractionation gave a geologically unreasonable temperature of formation for both minerals at 1374 °C when compared to temperatures obtained by mineral assemblage equilibrium of these marble type deposits, between 610 and 750 °C. The constant Δ18Occ–sp reflects a constant temperature for this amphibolite facies assemblage, whose current best estimate is calculated at 620 ± 40 °C, but unquantified uncertainties remain.  相似文献

The water table of Teboursouk basin (NW Tunisia), logged in the Eocene limestone, is a relevant hydrological target considering its relatively important volume and good chemical quality. The assessment of its geohydrological potential requires the compilation of geological, stratigraphic, geophysical studies and drilling data. Well logging aims characterization of the petrophysical parameters of aquifer formations as well as possible correlations between boreholes. The interpretations show high variabilities in porosity (from 4 to 42 % related to fracturing) of limestone formation and in salinity (0.7 to 2.3 g/l) of the water table; the latter increase to the Southeast of the basin, which is contaminated by the salt formation. Over 54 Schlumberger electrical soundings (AB?=?400 m) were performed. The interpretation of resistivity distributions at various depths is based on apparent resistivity maps corresponding to different AB spacings. Measured resistivity values were one-dimensionally interpreted. Drilled boreholes and the position of some electrical soundings on geological outcrops have been helpful for electrical data calibration. The generalization of the calibration for all electrical soundings show that the limestones are characterized by high and very contrast resistivity (ρ >22 Ωm), a depth ranging from 0 to 100 m and a thickness of about 70 m, exceeding 200 m per place. These variations are due to the presence of faults which are affecting the basin, and are connected to Eocene lands behind. The compilation of data led to evaluate approximately the groundwater reserves of Teboursouk basin to 130 million of cubic meter.  相似文献

In semiarid Sahelian region, the dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC) and water are key to sustainable land management. This work focuses on the behaviour of carbon. A total of 33 soil profiles in four polders, ranging from 10 to 65 years in age, were sampled, analysed (0–1 m), and matched with marsh soil profiles in recent sediments considered as reference (t0) for carbon stocks determination. SOC and soil inorganic carbon (SIC) stocks show a spatial variability between polders. SOC stocks were t0 200 ± 0.8; t60 183 ± 34; and t65 189 ± 1.1 MgC·ha?1, whereas the SIC stocks were negligible. These results show the highest stocks of soil carbon observed for this climatic region. The SOC stocks were also calculated for the equivalent soil mass at a defined depth (0–0.3 m); the corrected calculation of SOC stocks (Scorr) for 2450 Mg·ha?1 of equivalent soil mass is t0 64 ± 1.9, t60 59 ± 9.8, and t65 53 ± 2.2 MgC·ha?1; the stocks decrease by ?7.8% and ?17.2% from t0 to t60 and t65. Carbon was inherited from the pre-existing·marsh and the polders have conserved high stock values.  相似文献

Dredging and widening of the Panama Canal is currently being conducted to allow larger vessels to transit to and from the Americas, Asia, and Europe. Dredging efficiency relies heavily on knowledge of the types and volumes of sediments and rocks beneath the waterway to ensure the right equipment is used for their removal. To aid this process, a waterborne streaming electrical resistivity survey was conducted along the entire length of the canal to provide information on its geology. Within the confines of the canal, a total of 663 line-kilometers of electrical resistivity data were acquired using the dipole–dipole array. The support of the survey data for dredging activities was realized by calibrating and qualitatively correlating the resistivity data with information obtained from nearby logged boreholes and geological maps. The continuity of specific strata was determined in the resistivity sections by evaluating the continuity of similar ranges of resistivity values between boreholes. It was evident that differing geological units and successions can have similar ranges of resistivity values. For example, Quaternary sandy and gravelly alluvial fill from the former river channel of the Chagres River had similar resistivity ranges (generally from 40 to 250 Ω m) to those characteristic of late Miocene basalt dikes (from 100 to 400 Ω m), but for quite different reasons. Similarly, competent marine-based sedimentary rocks of the Caimito Formation were similar in resistivity values (ranging from 0.7 to 10 Ω m) to sandstone conglomerate of the Bohio Formation. Consequently, it would be difficult to use the resistivity data alone to extrapolate more complex geotechnical parameters, such as the hardness or strength of the substrate. A necessary component for such analyses requires detailed objective information regarding the specific context from which the geotechnical parameters were derived. If these data from cored boreholes and detailed geological surveys are taken into account, however, then waterborne streaming resistivity surveying can be a powerful tool. In this case, it provided inexpensive and highly resolved quantitative information on the potential volume of loose suctionable material along the Gamboa Sub-reach, which could enable large cost savings to be made on a major engineering project involving modification of one of the most important navigable waterways in the world.  相似文献

Small angle neutron scattering techniques have been applied to investigate the phase behavior of CO2 injected into coal and possible changes in the coal pore structure that may result from this injection. Three coals were selected for this study: the Seelyville coal from the Illinois Basin (Ro = 0.53%), Baralaba coal from the Bowen Basin (Ro = 0.67%), and Bulli 4 coal from the Sydney Basin (Ro = 1.42%). The coals were selected from different depths to represent the range of the underground CO2 conditions (from subcritical to supercritical) which may be realized in the deep subsurface environment. The experiments were conducted in a high pressure cell and CO2 was injected under a range of pressure conditions, including those corresponding to in-situ hydrostatic subsurface conditions for each coal. Our experiments indicate that the porous matrix of all coals remains essentially unchanged after exposure to CO2 at pressures up to 200 bar (1 bar = 105 Pa). Each coal responds differently to the CO2 exposure and this response appears to be different in pores of various sizes within the same coal. For the Seelyville coal at reservoir conditions (16 °C, 50 bar), CO2 condenses from a gas into liquid, which leads to increased average fluid density in the pores (ρpore) with sizes (r) 1 × 105  r  1 × 104 Å (ρpore  0.489 g/cm3) as well as in small pores with size between 30 and 300 Å (ρpore  0.671 g/cm3). These values are by a factor of three to four higher than the density of bulk CO2 (ρCO2) under similar thermodynamic conditions (ρCO2  0.15 g/cm3). At the same time, in the intermediate size pores with r  1000 Å the average fluid density is similar to the density of bulk fluid, which indicates that adsorption does not occur in these pores. At in situ conditions for the Baralaba coal (35 OC, 100 bar), the average fluid density of CO2 in all pores is lower than that of the bulk fluid (ρpore / ρCO2  0.6). Neutron scattering from the Bulli 4 coal did not show any significant variation with pressure, a phenomenon which we assign to the extremely small amount of porosity of this coal in the pore size range between 35 and 100,000 Å.  相似文献

The Sirstan granitoid (SG), comprising diorite and granodiorite, is located in the Shalair Valley area, in the northeastern part of Iraq within the Sanandaj–Sirjan Zone (SSZ) of the Zagros Orogenic Belt. The U–Pb zircon dating of the SG rocks has revealed a concordia age of 110 Ma, which is interpreted as the age of crystallization of this granitoid body during the Middle Cretaceous. The whole-rock Rb–Sr isochron data shows an age of 52.4 ± 9.4 Ma (MSWD = 1.7), which implies the reactivation of the granitoid body in the Early Eocene due to the collision between the Arabian and Iranian plates. These rocks show metaluminous affinity with low values of Nb, Ta and Ti compared to chondrite, suggesting the generation of these rocks over the subduction zone in an active continental margin regime. The SG rocks are hornblende-bearing I-type granitoids with microgranular mafic enclaves. The positive values of ?Nd (t = 110 Ma) (+0.1 to +2.7) and the low (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios (0.7044 to 0.7057) indicate that the magma source of the SG granitoids is a depleted subcontinental mantle. The chemical and isotope compositions show that the SG body originated from the metasomatic mantle without a major role for continental contamination. Our findings show that the granitoid bodies distributed in the SSZ were derived from the continuous Neo-Tethys subduction beneath the SSZ in Mesozoic times and that the SSZ was an active margin in the Middle Cretaceous.  相似文献

The Carris orebody consists of two partially exploited W–Mo–Sn quartz veins formed during successive shear stages and multipulse fluid fillings. They cut the Variscan post-D3 Gerês I-type granite. The most important ore minerals are wolframite, scheelite, molybdenite and cassiterite. There are two generations of wolframite. The earlier generation of wolframite is rare and has the highest WO4Mn content (91 mol%) and the most common wolframite contains 26–57 mol% WO4Mn. Re–Os dating of molybdenite from the ore quartz veins and surrounding granite yields ages of 279 ± 1.2 Ma and 280.3 ± 1.2 Ma, respectively which are in very good agreement with the previous ID-TIMS U–Pb zircon age for the Carris granite (280 ± 5 Ma).3He/4He ratio of pyrite ranging between 0.73 and 2.71 Ra (1 Ra = 1.39 × 10 6) and high 3He/36Ar (0.8–5 × 10 3) indicate a mixture of a crustal radiogenic helium fluid with a mantle derived-fluid.The fluid inclusion studies on quartz intergrown with wolframite and scheelite, beryl and fluorite reveal that two distinct fluid types were involved in the genesis of this deposit. The first was a low to medium salinity aqueous carbonic fluid (CO2 between 4 and 14 mol%) with less than 1.95 mol% N2, which was only found in quartz associated with wolframite. The other was a low salinity aqueous fluid found in all the four minerals. The homogenization temperatures indicate minimum entrapment temperatures of 226–310 °C (average 280 °C) for the H2O–CO2–N2–NaCl fluid and average temperatures of 266 °C for scheelite and 242 °C, 190 °C and 160 °C for the last generations of beryl, fluorite and quartz, respectively. It was estimated that wolframite was deposited ~ 7 km depth, assuming a lithostatic pressure, probably due to strong pressure fluctuation caused by seismic events triggered by brittle tectonics during the exhumation event. Precipitation of scheelite and sulphides took place later, at the same depth, but under a hydrostatic or suprahydrostatic pressure regime, and probably caused by mixing between the magmatic–hydrothermal fluid and meteoric waters that deeply penetrated the basement during post-Variscan decompression.  相似文献

Increased interest in paleoenvironmental studies is a result of climatic changes occurring at present and predicted for the future. Such studies could be done using the stable isotope compositions (δ2H and δ18O) of kaolins, which provide knowledge on the paleoenvironmental conditions prevailing during the time of kaolinisation. In this study, the stable isotopic compositions of clay-size fraction of kaolins occurring in Cretaceous and Tertiary Formations of the Douala Sub-Basin in Cameroon are presented, with the aim of reconstructing the paleoenvironmental conditions of the Sub-Basin. To achieve this, the clay-size fraction (< 2 μm fraction) of 8 kaolinite-rich samples were analysed for their δ2H and δ18O compositions, and results were reported as part per mil (‰) relative to the SMOW standard. The δ18O values of kaolins found in the Cretaceous–Tertiary Formations of the Douala Sub-Basin varied between +18.2 and +21.0‰, whereas the δ2H values varied between –69 and –53‰. Nine of the eleven samples plotted on the right of the supergene–hypogene line. Five of these nine samples plotted very close to the kaolinite line, which represents the composition of kaolinite in equilibrium with meteoric water at 20 °C; suggesting a supergene weathering origin of these kaolins. The determination of the temperature of kaolinisation yielded mean formation temperatures of 22 ± 2 °C and 27 ± 6 °C for Cretaceous and Tertiary kaolins, respectively. Excluding the two samples falling in the hypogene field, averages of kaolinisation temperatures were 20 and 25 °C during the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods, respectively. These temperatures are slightly below the present mean annual temperature in Douala (27 °C), thereby suggesting that the climate was becoming warmer from the Cretaceous to the Present. Therefore, Douala had a cooler and rainy climate during the Cretaceous, and the climate is gradually becoming hotter and more humid, favouring the refinement of existing kaolins and the kaolinisation of kaolin-forming minerals in the Sub-Basin.  相似文献

This paper contributes to the understanding of the genesis of epigenetic, hypogene BIF-hosted iron deposits situated in the eastern part of Ukrainian Shield. It presents new data from the Krivoy Rog iron mining district (Skelevatske–Magnetitove deposit, Frunze underground mine and Balka Severnaya Krasnaya outcrop) and focuses on the investigation of ore genesis through application of fluid inclusion petrography, microthermometry, Raman spectroscopy and baro-acoustic decrepitation of fluid inclusions. The study investigates inclusions preserved in quartz and magnetite associated with the low-grade iron ores (31–37% Fe) and iron-rich quartzites (38–45% Fe) of the Saksaganskaya Suite, as well as magnetite from the locally named high-grade iron ores (52–56% Fe). These high-grade ores resulted from alteration of iron quartzites in the Saksaganskiy thrust footwall (Saksaganskiy tectonic block) and were a precursor to supergene martite, high-grade ores (60–70% Fe). Based on the new data two stages of iron ore formation (metamorphic and metasomatic) are proposed. The metamorphic stage, resulting in formation of quartz veins within the low-grade iron ore and iron-rich quartzites, involved fluids of four different compositions: CO2-rich, H2O, H2O–CO2 N2–CH4)–NaCl(± NaHCO3) and H2O–CO2 N2–CH4)–NaCl. The salinities of these fluids were relatively low (up to 7 mass% NaCl equiv.) as these fluids were derived from dehydration and decarbonation of the BIF rocks, however the origin of the nahcolite (NaHCO3) remains unresolved. The minimum P–T conditions for the formation of these veins, inferred from microthermometry are Tmin = 219–246 °C and Pmin = 130–158 MPa. The baro-acoustic decrepitation analyses of magnetite bands indicated that the low-grade iron ore from the Skelevatske–Magnetitove deposit was metamorphosed at T = ~ 530 °C.The metasomatic stage post-dated and partially overlapped the metamorphic stage and led to the upgrade of iron quartzites to the high-grade iron ores. The genesis of these ores, which are located in the Saksaganskiy tectonic block (Saksaganskiy ore field), and the factors controlling iron ore-forming processes are highly controversial. According to the study of quartz-hosted fluid inclusions from the thrust zone the metasomatic stage involved at least three different episodes of the fluid flow, simultaneous with thrusting and deformation. During the 1st episode three types of fluids were introduced: CO2–CH4–N2 C), CO2 N2–CH4) and low salinity H2O–N2–CH4–NaCl (6.38–7.1 mass% NaCl equiv.). The 2nd episode included expulsion of the aqueous fluids H2O–N2–CH4–NaCl(± CO2, ± C) of moderate salinities (15.22–16.76 mass% NaCl equiv.), whereas the 3rd event involved high salinity fluids H2O–NaCl(± C) (20–35 mass% NaCl equiv.). The fluids most probably interacted with country rocks (e.g. schists) supplying them with CH4 and N2. The high salinity fluids were most likely either magmatic–hydrothermal fluids derived from the Saksaganskiy igneous body or heated basinal brines, and they may have caused pervasive leaching of Fe from metavolcanic and/or the BIF rocks. The baro-acoustic decrepitation analyses of magnetite comprising the high-grade iron ore showed formation T = ~ 430–500 °C. The fluid inclusion data suggest that the upgrade to high-grade Fe ores might be a result of the Krivoy Rog BIF alteration by multiple flows of structurally controlled, metamorphic and magmatic–hydrothermal fluids or heated basinal brines.  相似文献

The Kozbudaklar scheelite skarn deposit in the Tavşanlı Zone, located approximately 22 km southeast of Bursa, is hosted by the Triassic calcic İnönü Marble and Eocene Topuk Pluton. At least four stages have been recognized through skarn evolution. Scheelite skarn distributed close to the Topuk Pluton occurred during the early (stage 1) and late (stage 2) prograde substages. The early prograde endo and exoskarn are composed of hedenbergite (Hd96Joh4)–plagioclase (An55–64) and hedenbergite (Hd61–94Joh4–7), accompanied by calcic garnet (Grs38–94Sps1–5Alm0) and scheelite (Pow1–6). The second stage represents a relatively oxidized mineralogy dominated by diopside (Hd16–48Joh0–9), subcalcic garnet (Grs24–92Sps0–11Alm0–31) and scheelite (Pow7–32). The stage 3 and 4 mineral assemblages are characterized by few hydrous minerals in the retrograde stage and intense fracturing.Fluid inclusions from skarn rocks are indicative of multiple fluid events: (1) low-moderate salinity (5–16 wt.%NaCl equiv.) inclusions homogenized dominantly by a high-temperature (308 °C to > 600 °C) liquid phase in stage 1. Fluid inclusions in an early garnet homogenized over a similar temperature range (440 °C and 459 °C) into both liquid and vapor phases. Eutectic temperatures ranging from − 61.7 °C to − 35.0 °C that indicate the presence of H2O–NaCl–(± MgCl2 ± CaCl2)–CO2 solutions; (2) coexisting daughter mineral-bearing high salinity (29.5  70 wt.%NaCl equiv.) and vapor-rich moderate salinity (11.5–16.7 wt.%NaCl equiv.) inclusions that homogenized in the liquid phase by the disappearance of the vapor phase at a similar temperature range (308 °C to > 600 °C) in stage 2. Eutectic temperatures range from − 67.9°C to − 51.8°C that shows the presence of H2O–NaCl–CO2–(± CH4/N2) solutions; (3) low-moderate salinity (12.5–7.6 wt.%NaCl equiv.) and temperature (320 °C to 215 °C) inclusions homogenized by the liquid phase in stage 3. Eutectic temperatures range from − 59.5 °C to − 44.2 °C indicating the presence of H2O–NaCl–(± MgCl2 ± CaCl2)–CO2 solutions; (4) inclusions of low salinity (9.9–0.9 wt.%NaCl equiv.) and homogenization temperature (183 °C to 101 °C) in stage 4.These data show that the Kozbudaklar skarn deposit was formed in a magmatic–hydrothermal system. In this model, carbonaceous fluids may have been exsolved from the plutonic rock during its emplacement and crystallization. Fluid inclusion data indicate that fluid boiling and immiscibility occurred at temperatures between 440 °C and 459 °C and pressures ranging from 50 MPa to 60 MPa based on hydrostatic considerations. Early scheelite was precipitated with relatively reduced mineral compositions. As a result of depressurization, Mo-rich scheelite with oxidized minerals formed via high salinity and vapor-rich inclusions. The second scheelite mineralization occurred in a normal hydrothermal system by an infiltration mechanism at pressures between approximately 40 and 1.5 MPa. At shallow depths (< 1.5 MPa) with increasing permeability, sulfide and oxide minerals were deposited in the retrograde stage, greatly assisted by meteoric water. Finally, as a result of the diminishing of ore-forming fluids, post-depositional barren quartz and calcite veins were formed.  相似文献

In the tandem planet formation regime, planets form at two distinct sites where solid particles are densely accumulated due to the on/off state of the magnetorotational instability(MRI).We found that tandem planet formation can reproduce the solid component distribution of the Solar System and tends to produce a smaller number of large planets through continuous pebble flow into the planet formation sites. In the present paper,we investigate the dependence of tandem planet formation on the vertical magnetic field of the protoplanetary disk.We calculated two cases of B_Z 3.4 × 10~(-3) G and B_Z = 3.4 × 10~(-5) G at 100 AU as well as the canonical case of B_Z = 3.4 × 10~(-4) G.We found that tandem planet formation holds up well in the case of the strong magnetic field(B_Z 3.4 × 10~(-3) G).On the other hand,in the case of a weak magnetic field(B_Z= 3.4 × 10~(-5) G) at 100 AU,a new regime of planetary growth is realized:the planets grow independently at different places in the dispersed area of the MRl-suppressed region of r-8-30 AU at a lower accretion rate of M 10~(-7.4)M_⊙yr~(-1).We call this the "dispersed planet formation" regime. This may lead to a system with a larger number of smaller planets that gain high eccentricity through mutual collisions.  相似文献

First results of the analysis of GPS measurement data obtained from 18 sites of two local networks in the vicinity of Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) for the period 2010–2015 have been presented. Horizontal velocity vectors are consistent with each other in the ITRF2014 system and with the velocities of the IGS permanent station ULAB. The sites move in the E–SE direction at a rate of 25–30 mm/yr, with the displacement azimuth averaging 105°. With respect to Eurasia, the vectors for most of the sites are slighly turned to the south, but they are still of SE orientation with the azimuth range of 130°–150° and magnitude values of 2–4 mm/yr. Relative horizontal velocities tend to decrease towards southeast that determines a zonal distribution of different type of relative strain patterns. The western part of the Ulaanbaatar network is characterized by the W–E oriented extension with the elongation rate ε1 = 12–16 × 10–8 yr–1. The shortening NW–SE trending strain with calculated value ε2 = 22.4 × 10–8 yr–1 characterizes the network’s eastern part. The highest values of the maximum shear strains (εmax = 10–14 × 10–8 yr–1) form an extended area in the center of the testing ground, which is elongated in the northeastern direction, conformably with the strike of the major geologic structures. The strain distribution pattern of the Emeelt network located within the eponymous seismogenic structures is characterized by the crustal elongation (5 × 10–6 yr–1) trending SE–NW and less pronounced shortening in the SW–SE directions. The axial part of the fault crossing the network in the NW direction exhibits maximum deformations.  相似文献

Metamorphic study on Triassic schists in the internal zone of the Indo-Burma range, essentially based on chlorite–mica equilibrium in metapelites, allows a PT path to be quantified. During the prograde metamorphism, the geothermic gradient evolves from that of a ‘normal’ crust (30 °C km?1) to that of a thickened crust (18 °C km?1). The peak conditions are around 8 kbar and 450 °C. This thickening (25–30 km) is probably made in a wedge set up between the Late Cretaceous and the Eocene, in front of the obduction. The obtained cold retrograde path requires a mechanism allowing thermal re-equilibration, implying slow exhumation. It occurred along a shear zone that put into contact the micaschists of the core with the Triassic schists of the roof. To cite this article: A. Socquet et al., C. R. The solubility of synthetic ZnS(cr) was measured at 25–250 °C and P = 150 bars as a function of pH in aqueous sulfide solutions (~ 0.015–0.15 m of total reduced sulfur). The solubility determinations were performed using a Ti flow-through hydrothermal reactor. The solubility of ZnS(cr) was found to increase slowly with temperature over the whole pH range from 2 to ~ 10. The values of the Zn–S–HS complex stability constant, β, were determined for Zn(HS)20(aq), Zn(HS)3?, Zn(HS)42?, and ZnS(HS)?. Based on the experimental values the Ryzhenko–Bryzgalin electrostatic model parameters for these stability constants were calculated, and the ZnS(cr) solubility and the speciation of Zn in sulfide-containing hydrothermal solutions were evaluated. The most pronounced solubility increase, about 3 log units at m(Stotal) = 0.1 for the temperatures from 25 to 250 °C, was found in acidic solutions (pH ~ 3 to 4) in the Zn(HS)20(aq) predominance field. In weakly alkaline solutions, where Zn(HS)3? and Zn(HS)42? are the dominant Zn–S–HS complexes, the ZnS(cr) solubility increases by 1 log unit at the same conditions. It was found that ZnS(HS)? and especially Zn(HS)42? become less important in high temperature solutions. At 25 °C and m(Stotal) = 0.1, these species dominate Zn speciation at pH > 7. At 100 °C and m(Stotal) = 0.1, the maximum fraction of Zn(HS)42? is only 20% of the total Zn concentration (i.e. at pHt ~ 7.5), whereas at 350 °C and 3 <pHt <10, the fraction of Zn(HS)42? and ZnS(HS)? is less than 0.05% and 2.5% respectively, of the total Zn concentration and Zn(HS)20 and Zn(HS)3? predominate. The measured equilibrium formation constants were combined with the literature data on the stability of Zn–Cl complexes in order to evaluate the concentration and speciation of Zn in chloride solutions. It was found that at acidic pH, and in more saline fluids having total chloride > 0.05 m, Zn–Cl complexes are responsible for hydrothermal Zn transport with no significant contribution of Zn–S–HS complexes. The hydrosulfide/sulfide complexes will play a more important role in lower salinity (< 0.05 m chloride) hydrothermal solutions which are characteristic of many epithermal ore depositing environments. The value of ΔfG° (β-ZnS(cr)) = ? 198.6 ± 0.2 kJ/mol at 25 °C was determined via solubility measurements of natural low-iron Santander (Spain) sphalerite.  相似文献

The Cornia Plain alluvial aquifer, in Tuscany, is exploited intensely to meet the demand for domestic, irrigation and industrial water supplies. The B concentration of groundwater, however, is often above the European limit of 1 mg L−1, with the result that exploitation of these water resources requires careful management. Boron and Sr isotopes have been used as part of a study on the origin and distribution of B dissolved in groundwater, and indirectly as a contribution to the development of appropriate water management strategies. The geochemistry of the Cornia Plain groundwater changes from a HCO3 facies in the inland areas to a Cl facies along the coastal belt, where seawater intrusion takes place. The B concentration of groundwater increases towards the coastal areas, while the 11B/10B ratio decreases. This indicates that there is an increasing interaction between dissolved B and the sediments forming the aquifer matrix, whose B content is in the order of 100 mg kg−1. Adsorption–desorption exchanges take place between water and the sediment fine fraction rich in clay minerals, with a net release of B from the matrix into the groundwater, and a consequent δ11B shift from positive to negative values. The aquifer matrix sediments therefore seem to be the major source of B dissolved in the groundwater. The groundwater–matrix interactions triggered by the ionic strength increase caused by seawater intrusion can also be detected in the Ca–Na ion exchanges. Dissolved Sr follows a trend similar to that of Ca, while the 87Sr/86Sr ratio is equal to that of the exchangeable Sr of the aquifer matrix and therefore does not change significantly. These results have helped to define a new strategy for groundwater exploitation, with the final objective of reducing B concentration in the water extracted from the aquifer.  相似文献

Ultrabasic xenoliths (pyroxenites, lherzolites, harzburgites) in recent (Neogene–Quaternary) volcanoes have been studied in three localities within Syria: Jubates (North), Mhailbeh (Center), Tel Thannoun (South). PT conditions of mineral equilibration have been estimated by pyroxene thermometry (temperature) and maximum CO2 density in primary inclusions (minimum pressure). Pyroxenites equilibrate at significantly higher conditions (T about 1200 °C, P>15 kbar) than lherzolites and harzburgites (900<T<1100 °C, P between 10 and 15 kbar). All are within the spinel lherzolite field, whereas Cretaceous xenoliths originate within the garnet lherzolite field. To cite this article: A. Bilal, F. Sheleh, C. R. Hydrogeophysical investigations of the Pleistocene aquifer at the Kom Hamada area, Egypt, have been conducted to determine the characteristics of groundwater. The main water-bearing formations in the study area are composed of Quaternary deposits. Water samples were taken and chemically analyzed at 29 sites. The constructed iso-salinity contour map of the study area showed an increase in salinity from 451.75 mg/l at eastern parts to 1,091.85 mg/l at western parts. The groundwater of the study area showed a hydrochemical evolution from Ca–HCO3 at the eastern side to Na–Cl at the western side. Some of groundwater constituents have high concentration values exceeding the safe limit for drinking. Eighteen vertical electrical soundings (VES) were conducted in the study area. These soundings were conducted near existing wells to obtain layer parameters of the various penetrated layers and to calculate the petrophysical characteristics of the aquifers. The resistivity of the first water-bearing layer ranges between 34 and 47 Ω m. The thickness of this layer ranges between 26 and 79 m. This layer represents the first aquifer, where it is followed by another water-bearing layer with resistivity ranges between 29 and 62 Ω m and extends downward. The two aquifers are hydraulically connected. Variation of the resistivities of these two water-bearing layers is mainly due to the lithological variation. The resistivity values along with the TDS values of the two water-bearing layers indicate fresh to brackish water types.  相似文献

Surface sediments from the Gulf of Cádiz (GoC) were analyzed by alkaline CuO oxidation, in order to estimate the contribution of terrigenous organic matter (TOM) to the inner continental shelf of the southwest Iberian Peninsula. The parallel analysis of sediment samples from the two most important rivers draining to this coastal area (i.e. Guadiana River and Tinto–Odiel fluvial system) provided fundamental information regarding local terrestrial sources. Relatively constant intensive lignin parameters (S:V = 1.0 ± 0.1 and C:V = 0.22 ± 0.04) and high values of the lignin phenol vegetation index (LPVI = 155 ± 43) indicated that non-woody angiosperm tissues constitute the dominant component of vascular plant material reaching the shelf sediments. The NW to SE decreasing isotopic (13C) and molecular (Λ8) signatures found among the sediments, coinciding with the Guadiana delivery plume, suggest that this river is the main terrestrial source in the inner GoC shelf. Slightly elevated values of degradation indicative ratios ([Ad:Al]V = 0.41 ± 0.10; [Ad:Al])S = 0.34 ± 0.07; [3,5-Bd:V] = 0.14 ± 0.05; P:[V + S] = 0.24 ± 0.09) suggested the alteration state of the shelf sediments. The two fold higher ratios of the river sediments (Guadiana: [Ad:Al]V = 0.82 ± 0.08; [Ad:Al]S = 0.84 ± 0.03; Tinto–Odiel: [Ad:Al]V = 0.86 ± 0.12; [Ad:Al]S = 0.83 ± 0.013) and the increasing degradation trend observed outward in the shelf, lead us to consider preferential sorption processes, instead of in situ diagenesis, to affect the degradation signature of the shelf sediments. Preferentially solubilized degraded OM is more likely to be sorbed and stabilized prior to transport to the marine system, showing an apparently more advanced degradation state. The use of the 3,5-Bd:V ratio in conjunction with (Ad:Al)V revealed a composition continuum of the sedimentary OM ranging from fresh plant materials to highly altered soil humic constituents. Elemental and molecular analyses show a land to sea gradient by a NW to SE decrease of the terrestrial influence, accounting for larger terrestrial inputs (TOM: 71–98%) in those sediments near the Guadiana mouth, and predominantly autochthonous composition (TOM: 42–50%) in those located offshore. This work utilizes lignin derived biomarkers to determine the contribution of terrigenous OM delivered to this poorly described coastal area from regional rivers. Within a context of increasing international efforts to better understand the global C cycling, this study illustrates the relevance of using the alkaline CuO oxidation approach to evaluate C budgets and continental influence in river dominated ocean margins.  相似文献

Garnet-bearing micaschists and paragneisses of the Yaounde Group in the Pan-African Central African Orogenic Belt in Cameroon underwent a polyphase structural evolution with the deformation stages D1–D2, D3 and D4. The garnet-bearing assemblages crystallized in course of the deformation stage D1–D2 which led to the formation of the regional main foliation S2. In XCaXMg coordinates one can distinguish several zonation trends in the garnet porphyroblasts. Zonation trends with increasing XMg and variably decreasing XCa signalize a garnet growth during prograde metamorphism. Intermineral microstructures provided criteria for local equilibria and a structurally controlled application of geothermobarometers based on cation exchange and net transfer reactions. The syndeformational PT path sections calculated from cores and rims of garnets in individual samples partly overlap and align along clockwise PT trends. The PT evolution started at ~450 °C/7 kbar, passed high-pressure conditions at 11–12 kbar at variable temperatures (600–700 °C) and involved a marked decompression toward 6–7 kbar at high temperatures (700–750 °C). Th–U–Pb dating of metamorphic monazite by electron microprobe (EMP-CHIME method) in eight samples revealed a single period of crystallization between 613 ± 33 Ma and 586 ± 15 Ma. The EMP-monazite age populations between 613 ± 33 Ma enclosed in garnet and 605 ± 12 Ma in the matrix apparently bracket the high temperature–intermediate pressure stage at the end of the prograde PT path. The younger monazites crystallized still at amphibolite-facies conditions during subsequent retrogression. The Pan-African overall clockwise PT evolution in the Yaounde Group with its syndeformational high pressure stages and marked pressure variations is typical of the parts of orogens which underwent contractional crustal thickening by stacking of nappe units during continental collision and/or during subduction-related accretionary processes.  相似文献
