The vertical structure of surface cyclonic tracks affecting the eastern Mediterranean region is studied on a climatological basis for the cold period of the year. The dataset used is the 1°?×?1° ERA-40 Reanalysis for a 40-year period (1962–2001). The vertical tracking of surface cyclonic tracks was performed with the aid of the Melbourne University Vertical Tracking Algorithm. It was found that about 83 % of the cyclones were extended up to the 500-hPa level and almost 65 % up to 200-hPa level, implying that the cyclones are in general well organized. The surface tracks that originate within the examined area exhibit the smallest vertical extension, intensity, radius, and depth compared to the cyclones originating in the other sectors. Moreover, the 500-hPa counterparts for the said cyclones are mainly located to the north-west or south-west of the surface cyclone position, consistent with the baroclinic character of the Mediterranean cyclones. The zonal (eastward) component of motion predominates both at the surface and at 500 hPa.  相似文献

本文利用1975—1984年12—2月北太平洋爆发性温带气旋资料以及500 hPa天气图,概括出气旋爆发式加强前12小时五种环流型,即北美高压型(NAH)、东太平洋高压型(EPH)、中太平洋高压型(MPH)、白令海阻高型(BBH)、太平洋低压型(PL)。以NAH型和EPH型出现的机会最多,稳定时间最长,并且在这两种天气形势下气旋最易发展。另外本文还分析了气旋爆发后的路径趋势,指出在形势稳定期,气旋爆发后的路径亦稳定;在形势调整期,气旋后期路径随太平洋长波系统的演变而变化。  相似文献

Summary  The Mediterranean basin experiences considerable cyclone activity mostly during fall, winter and spring and diminished activity during summer. In this study we present results of synoptic disturbance track analysis for two contrasting winter months and two, near average, summer months over the eastern Mediterranean. The surface and 500 hPa disturbance tracks were subjectively analyzed from two points of view. First, looking at tracks of conventionally defined cyclone centers (eddies) based on actual pressure and height distribution and second, looking at tracks of transient cyclonic disturbances (TRADs), defined as centers of negative deviations from the time mean. The second type of analysis demonstrated a considerable increase in the number of detectable tracks. Over the Mediterranean and vicinity the ratio between the number of surface TRAD tracks to cyclone tracks is, about 2, whereas at 500 hPa the ratio is much higher, about 5. However, the average life span of transient disturbances was only slightly longer than that of conventional cyclones (mainly at 500 hPa). At the surface and at 500 hPa about 50% of the cyclone tracks coincided to a certain extent with TRAD tracks. In summer, when conventional analysis over the eastern Mediterranean yields mostly quasi‐stationary low pressure centers associated with the Persian Gulf Trough, we detected clear signs of transient disturbances. 利用 P S U/ N C A R M M 4 对5 个西北太平洋温带气旋的爆发性发展进行了一系列数值模拟和敏感性试验,并对重要的物理过程进行了分析和诊断。采用相同物理过程及边界条件的控制试验成功地模拟出了主要的爆发性气旋加深率,为海洋爆发性气旋的业务数值预报提供了可能。敏感性试验获得了湿物理过程、能量频散、 S S T 和海面能通量、日本岛地形及初、边值条件等影响气旋加深率的定量认识,分析表明水的微物理过程,特别是网格尺度的水汽凝结、未饱和层的云滴和雨滴蒸发,是气旋爆发性发展中最重要的物理过程;在高空 200~300h Pa 层的云滴蒸发效应可能是形成相应层气旋中心非绝热冷却峰值的主要原因;由内在热力动力学过程所决定的潜热释放比对流参数化任意规定的加热分布更接近实际并能产生更好的模拟结果;没有能量频散效应时可减小模拟加深的 30% ;海面能通量在初始时刻比在爆发性发展时更重要,不计初始时海面能通量将影响模拟加深约 25% ,而不计爆发性发展时的海面能通量,这种影响不及前者的一半;爆发性发展时的海面能通量呈不均匀分布并能诱导反锋面热力环流在局部抑制气旋的加深;大气模式对海气边界层能通量交换的变化和海洋增暖产生了显著的热力学响  相似文献

This paper brings a new perspective on the large scale dynamics of severe heat wave (HW) events that commonly affect southern Australia. Through an automatic tracking scheme, the cyclones and anticyclones associated with HWs affecting Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth are tracked at both the surface and upper levels, producing for the first time a synoptic climatology that reveals the broader connections associated with these extreme phenomena. The results show that a couplet (or pressure dipole) formed by transient cyclones and anticyclones can reinforce the HW similarly to what is observed in cold surges (CS), with an obvious opposite polarity. Our results show that there is a large degree of mobility in the synoptic signature associated with the passage of the upper level ridges before they reach Australia and the blocking is established, with HW-associated surface anticyclones often initiating over the west Indian Ocean and decaying in the eastern Pacific. In contrast to this result the 500?hPa anticyclone tracks show a very small degree of mobility, responding to the dominance of the upper level blocking ridge. An important feature of HWs is that most of the cyclones are formed inland in association with heat troughs, while in CS the cyclones are typically maritime (often explosive), associated with a strong cold front. Hence the influence of the cyclone is indirect, contributing to reinforce the blocking ridge through hot and dry advection on the ridge’s western flank. Additional insights are drawn for the record Adelaide case of March 2008 with fifteen consecutive days above 35°C breaking the previous record by 7?days. Sea surface temperatures suggest a significant air-sea interaction mechanism, with a broad increase in the meridional temperature gradient over the Indian Ocean amplifying the upstream Rossby waves that can trigger HW events. A robust cooling of the waters close to the Australian coast also contributes to the maintenance of the blocking highs locally, which is a fundamental ingredient to sustain the HWs.  相似文献

A comparison of two objective climatologies of explosive cyclones in the Mediterranean region is performed. The results are derived from two different mean sea-level pressure reanalysis data resolutions, but from the same assimilation model, in order to quantify the pure impact of higher resolution on the identification and characteristics of explosive cyclones, when the assimilation model is the same. The explosive cyclones were identified with the aid of the Melbourne University automatic cyclone finding and tracking scheme over a 40-year period, using the 6-hourly analyses of ERA-40 mean sea-level pressure (MSLP) on: (a) 2.5?×?2.5 and (b) 1?×?1 latitude–longitude grid. The comparison of the two datasets revealed the significant role of the increase in spatial resolution of MSLP data on the identification and tracking process, and the number of the explosive cyclones in the high-resolution dataset is almost four times greater than the respective one in the lower resolution dataset. However, the comparison of explosive cyclone characteristics, including spatial and temporal variations of explosive deepening, revealed differences in the geographical distribution of the location of the maximum explosive deepening and average explosive cyclone Laplacian of the central pressure. These differences are due to the identification in the higher resolution set of smaller scale and secondary explosives along the strongly baroclinic northern Mediterranean boundaries, south of the Alps and the Pyrenees. Explosive deepening appears a bias to the daytime period from 12 to 18 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) for both datasets, which is more prominent in the LR dataset. Statistically significant difference of pressure tendency between the two datasets appear for the daytime period from 06 to 12 UTC, accounting for better representation of orographic forcing in the HR dataset.  相似文献

利用2016年5月2—4日NCEP的FNL 1°×1°再分析资料和GDAS的1°×1°再分析资料、地面观测资料,运用天气学分析、等熵位涡、物理量诊断和水汽来源追踪等方法,从大尺度环流背景、水汽源地和输送、动力和热力机制、等熵位涡等方面对2016年春季一次地面气旋爆发性发展导致的东北地区暴雨天气过程进行了分析。结果表明:位于40°N附近的黄淮气旋北上加强发展,2日14时至3日14时中心气压下降24 hPa,超过爆发性气旋的定义标准。500 hPa高空槽快速加强发展为闭合低涡,低空切变线加强发展为低空低涡,其东部形成明显的低空急流,为暴雨区提供水汽和热量,为东北地区典型的暖式切变降水。等熵位涡自320 K高层向305 K低层输送下传,并逐步向南向东移动,高空正位涡的下传促使地面气旋快速发展,上升运动加强,有利于暴雨的出现。比湿在6 g·kg^(-1)以上对东北地区春末夏初暴雨预报有一定的参考意义。水汽主要来源于东海、黄海及西北太平洋。暴雨区与850 hPa水汽通量散度的负值区、700 hPa垂直速度和850 hPa绝对涡度大值区较为一致,强降水区与850 hPa相当位温密集带和暖区锋生区相对应,降水位于能量锋区以及偏暖区一侧。  相似文献

使用1951—2005年北半球500 hPa高度场格点资料、1949—2005年海温场 (SST) 格点资料, 计算与后期热带气旋发生频数的相关系数, 分析两个相关场显著相关区的统计特征, 进一步分析其天气气候学意义和物理意义。选取若干相关系数高的格点, 构成组合因子, 建立二次型曲线预测方程, 进行西北太平洋、南海及登陆我国、登陆广东的热带气旋年月频数的预测。预测试验和检验表明, 二次型预测模型有较高的拟合能力, 在业务应用中有较好的效果。  相似文献

为了验证50 km分辨率的SNU-AGCM模式(Seoul National University Atmospheric General Circulation Model)模拟TC活动的能力, 利用Hadley中心月平均海温资料驱动模式, 模拟了1980—2009年全球热带气旋的活动特征。与观测资料对比分析, 两组利用不同对流参数化方案的试验, 都能够模拟与观测类似的TC结构以及全球TC活动的主要特点, 包括全球生成总频数、各海区路径分布和TC活动的季节变化。但是各个海域TC生成的年平均频数与观测还存在明显差异。模式中西北太平洋和南太平洋两组试验平均的TC频数较观测分别偏多21.5%和31.3%;而北大西洋、南北印度洋分别偏少11.4%、41.1%和50%。模拟的东北太平洋TC比观测少了将近88%, 而观测中TC极少的南大西洋在两组试验中平均每年却有1.5个TC生成。模拟的TC频数较观测的差异主要与模拟的北印度洋季风、西北太平洋季风槽、垂直风切变、850 hPa相对涡度与观测的差异有关。  相似文献

利用 NCEP 1960 ~ 1997 年月平均 500 hPa 高度、1000 hPa 的风场和温度、JM A 海表温度资料及 NCA R O LR 资料进行合成分析, 给出了影响华东地区热带气旋(T C)偏多年与偏少年的前秋冬季不同的大气环流、O LR 和海表温度场特征, 从中可看到冬季风活动对 T C 年频数异常有影响。 在此基础上建立了华东地区热带气旋年频数异常的概念模型, 并且进行了试用, 其结果表明该概念模型对华东地区热带气旋年频数的短期气候预测有参考价值。  相似文献

Summary The average pressure distribution at mean sea level and the vertical structure of synoptic scale surface cyclones (with central pressure less than 1000 hPa) that occur in the Mediterranean region is studied for a 40 year period (1958–1997) on a seasonal and daily basis. The cyclonic occurrences are studied in three regions of enhanced cyclonic activity: gulf of Genoa, Southern Italy and Cyprus. The cyclones are identified with the aid of an objective method based on grid point values, available every 6 hours. The analysis revealed different characteristics of the cyclones that occur in the three regions, reflecting the different mechanisms that are responsible for their occurrence in each region. For the Genoa region the cyclone pressure minimum is located over the gulf, associated with orographic forcing, while surface dynamics occur further south. Over Southern Italy, the pressure minimum covers a wide area, whilst the surface dynamics are found to act in the same region, becoming more important in winter and spring. The pressure minimum of cyclones over Cyprus is located over the land during winter and spring and is influenced by surface dynamics and orography. 利用高分辨率观测资料和ERA5再分析资料, 分析造成2021年11月7—8日东北极端暴雪的温带气旋结构特征及爆发性发展机制, 结果表明:温带气旋发生在高空冷涡背景下, 地面气旋在黄海形成后出现爆发性快速增强并沿东北地区东部北上。地面降雪区主要分布在气旋西侧, 且降雪强度与气旋的发生发展密切相关;地面气旋在爆发性发展后由叶状云系演变为逗点涡旋云系, 并表现出明显的锋面断裂和暖锋包卷;其垂直结构也先后出现高空锋区断裂、干暖核形成和中性锢囚锋区加强;西伯利亚高压脊、华北高空槽和东北高压脊3个异常中心构成Rossby波列, 随着高度异常中心不断东移及波能量向下游地区频散, 华北高空槽区的波作用通量明显增大导致华北冷涡快速增强, 涡度因子的急剧增大有利于地面气旋爆发性发展;随着平流层位涡高值区沿等熵面不断向南发展和向下传播, 导致中层冷涡快速发展并向下伸展, 诱发地面气旋爆发性增强。  相似文献

基于动力气候模式进行月一季尺度预报的“两步法”思想,提出一种新的预报海温场统计模型,并以该统计模型预报的海温场驱动NCAR CAM3.1模式对1981-2000年月时间尺度的东亚500 hPa高度距平场进行客观回报试验;在此基础上,提出了对预报结果的订正方法。结果表明:统计预报海温模型的预报海温场能够反映出全球海温空间分布的基本特征,并对表征ENSO事件的Ni?o3.4区海温变化的预报能力较强。该统计模型预报的海温场驱动的CAM3.1模式可以较好地预报出东亚500 hPa环流的主要分布特征,试验表明:适当的统计订正方法可以在一定程度上提高CAM3.1模式对东亚夏季500 hPa环流背景的预报技巧。  相似文献

通过分析北半球和青藏高原地面平均气温与它们上空500hPa平均温度、200一500hPa平均厚度在不同时期和不同纬度带的趋势变化特征,了解其地面气温和其对流层中上层温度的年代际变化趋势以及相互关系。可以看到近50a地面气温和500hPa温度年代际变化大致相同,20世纪70年代中期之前都为降温,70年代中期以后为不同程度的升温。200—500hPa厚度代表的对流层上层温度与对流层下层温度变化趋势相反,70年代前明显升温,70年代后明显降温。分析还表明,对流层各层温度在不同纬度和不同季节的变化也不同。  相似文献

An observational study focusing on the contribution of tropical cyclones(TCs)that form over the western North Pacific(WNP)to the synoptic-scale transient eddy activity(STEA)over the North Pacific during the boreal autumn and early winter in the period 1979–2019 is presented in this paper.Statistical results show that WNP TCs entering the midlatitudinal North Pacific provide significant positive effects on the pentad mean strength of STEA,which is primarily concentrated over the Kuroshio/Oyashio Extensions(KOE)and regions from east of Japan to 160°W in the lower and midto-upper troposphere,respectively.TC intensity is highly indicative of the subsequent STEA with a correlation coefficient of 0.37/0.33/0.45 at 300 hPa/500 hPa/850 hPa exceeding the 99%confidence level for the period 1979–2019.The strength of STEA in the upper troposphere associated with TCs presents a more significant linear growth with TC intensity than that at the mid-to-lower levels after the cyclones enter the KOE region,suggesting that the impact of TCs on STEA gradually increases with height.Further analyses reveal that the contribution of TCs accounts for 4%–6%of the total STEA change over the KOE region during the late autumn and early winter.In addition,the influence of TCs on STEA experienced an interdecadal decrease from the early 2000 s through the early 2010 s.  相似文献

Changes in the frequency and air pressure of cyclones that enter or are formed within the Arctic basin are herein examined by applying the database of cyclones created using NCEP/NCAR re-analysis. The Arctic basin is defined as the area north of latitude 68° N. Deep cyclones with a mean sea level pressure (SLP) of below 1,000 hPa, were analysed separately from shallow cyclones. Changes in the variables in the first, last, deepest and northernmost points of cyclones were studied. The cyclones were grouped into sectors by using the point on latitude 68° N at which the cyclone entered the Arctic region. The analysis described herein shows that the frequency of incoming cyclones, i.e. those that entered the Arctic basin, increased significantly during the period 1948?C2002, but that the frequency of Arctic cyclones formed within the Arctic basin did not. The frequency of deep cyclones that entered the Arctic basin, as well as the frequency of cyclones that formed within it, clearly increased, while the frequency of shallow Arctic cyclones decreased. The most significant changes in the seasonal parameters associated with the cyclones occurred in winter. The mean annual SLP of deep cyclones decreased significantly, particularly for deep Arctic cyclones. The frequency of incoming cyclones showed an increase in the Bering Strait, Alaskan, Baffin Sea, and East Siberian sectors.  相似文献

本文对东海地区两个气旋波的爆发性发展过程进行了动力学分析。结果表明:明显的对流层中下部增温、增温以及不稳定的大气层结和强高空西风急流,及其有关的次级环流的作用是气旋爆发性发展的重要条件。在气旋爆发性发展过程中,上升运动、正涡度以及高空辐散和低空辐合的散度场皆达到最强。加热场的计算也表明非绝热加热特别是凝结潜热释放也在气旋爆发时刻达到最强,最大加热区位于气旋的东北象限内。这时涡动动能的增加十分显著,它主要是由涡动有效位能向涡动动能的转换造成,这说明气旋的爆发性发展是与斜压发展密切有关。  相似文献

利用动力诊断方法,对2008年7月20~22日高原低涡与低层西南低涡相互作用引发西南低涡强烈发展和四川大面积特大暴雨天气发生机理进行了诊断分析。分析表明:高原涡与西南涡涡心之间的纬向距离在5个纬度的时候,两者上升气流都在500 hPa以下,当两者继续东移,在经向上耦合的时候,二者同时得到发展,西南涡中心的上升气流达到300 hPa,而高原涡中心的上升气流突破200 hPa;西南涡在低层出现初期,在一定程度上制约了高原涡的发展,随着两者在经向方向发生耦合,上下涡度平流不同造成垂直差动,将激发500 hPa以下的上升运动与气旋性涡度加强,使得500 hPa与700 hPa涡心正涡度值的增大近1倍。并且涡前的正涡度变率使得高原涡发展并东移,待垂直耦合后,高原涡与盆地涡相互强迫作用促使气流上升运动加强也是导致高原低涡与西南低涡共同发展的一种机制。  相似文献
