Organic geochemical analysis and palynological studies of the organic matters of subsurface Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous Formations for two wells in Ajeel oil field, north Iraq showed evidences for hydrocarbon generation potential especially for the most prolific source rocks Chia Gara and Sargelu Formations. These analyses include age assessment of Upper Jurassic (Tithonian) to Lower Cretaceous (Berriasian) age and Middle Jurassic (Bathonian–Tithonian) age for Chia Gara and Sargelu Formations, respectively, based on assemblages of mainly dinoflagellate cyst constituents. Rock-Eval pyrolysis have indicated high total organic carbon (TOC) content of up to 18.5 wt%, kerogen type II with hydrogen index of up to 415 mg HC/g TOC, petroleum potential of 0.70–55.56 kg hydrocarbon from each ton of rocks and mature organic matter of maximum temperature reached (Tmax) range between 430 and 440 °C for Chia Gara Formation, while Sargelu Formation are of TOC up to 16 wt% TOC, Kerogen type II with hydrogen index of 386 mg HC/g TOC, petroleum potential of 1.0–50.90 kg hydrocarbon from each ton of rocks, and mature organic matter of Tmax range between 430 and 450 °C. Qualitative studies are done in this study by textural microscopy used in assessing amorphous organic matter for palynofacies type belonging to kerogen type A which contain brazinophyte algae, Tasmanites, and foraminifera test linings, as well as the dinoflagellate cysts and spores, deposited in dysoxic–anoxic environment for Chia Gara Formation and similar organic constituents deposited in distal suboxic–anoxic environment for Sargelu Formation. The palynomorphs are of dark orange and light brown, on the spore species Cyathidites australis, that indicate mature organic matters with thermal alteration index of 2.7–3.0 for the Chia Gara Formation and 2.9–3.1 for the Sargelu Formation by Staplin's scale. These characters have rated the succession as a source rock for very high efficiency for generation and expulsion of oil with ordinate gas that charged mainly oil fields of Baghdad, Dyala (B?aquba), and Salahuddin (Tikrit) Governorates. Oil charge the Cretaceous-Tertiary total petroleum system (TPS) are mainly from Chia Gara Formation, because most oil from Sargelu Formation was prevented passing to this TPS by the regional seal Gotnia Formation. This case study of mainly Chia Gara oil source is confirmed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry analysis for oil from reservoirs lying stratigraphically above the Chia Gara Formation in Ajeel and Hamrine oil fields, while oil toward the north with no Gotnia seal could be of mainly Sargelu Formation source.  相似文献

Sixteen rock samples of outcrop of Chia Gara Formations from the type locality area, south of Amadia, North Iraq showed evidences for hydrocarbon generation potential by palynological studies. These analyses include age assessment of Upper Jurassic (Tithonian) to Lower Cretaceous (Berriasian) age based on assemblages of mainly dinoflagellate cyst constituents. The palynomorphs are of dark orange and light brown, on the spore species Cyathidites australis, that indicate mature organic matters with thermal alteration index of 2.7–3.0 by Staplin’s scale. These characters and total organic carbon of 0.5–8.5 wt% have rated the succession as a source rock for high efficiency for generation and expulsion of oil with ordinate gas that charged mainly oil fields of Tawqi. Some oil is released from the Chia Gara Formation to charge the Cretaceous–Tertiary total petroleum system.  相似文献

Gas chromatography, palynomorph constituents, and maturation are analyzed for oil samples of the Campanian Khasib and Tannuma Formations in the wells of East Baghdad oil field for biomarker studies, while palynomorph constituents and their maturation, Rock Eval pyrolysis, total organic carbon (TOC) analysis are carried on for the Upper Jurassic and the Cretaceous Formations of core samples from the same wells for dating and evaluation of the source rocks. The gas chromatography of these oils have shown biomarkers of abundant ranges of n-alkanes of less than C22(C17–C21) with C19 and C18 peaks to suggest mainly liquid oil constituents of paraffinic hydrocarbons from marine algal source of restricted palaeoenvironments in the reservoir as well as low nonaromatic $ {\hbox{C}}_{15}^{+} $ peaks to indicate their slight degradation and water washing. Oil biomarkers of $ \Pr ./{\hbox{Ph}}{.} = {0}{.85,}{{\hbox{C}}_{31}}/{{\hbox{C}}_{30}} < 1.0 $ , location is in the triangle of C27–C29 sterane, C28/C29 of 0.6 sterane, oleanane of 0.01, and CPI = 1.0, could indicate anoxic marine environment with carbonate deposition of Upper Jurassic–Early Cretaceous source. The recorded palynomorph constituents in this oil and associated water are four miospore, seven dinoflagellates, and one Tasmanite species that could confirm affinity to the Upper most Jurassic–Lower Cretaceous Chia Gara and Ratawi Formations. The recorded palynomorphs from the reservoir oil (Khasib and Tannuma Formations) are of light brown color of $ {\hbox{TAI}} = 2.8 - 3.0 $ and comparable to the mature palynomorphs that belong to Chia Gara and Lower part of Ratawi Formations. Chia Gara Formation had generated and expelled high quantity of oil hydrocarbons according their TOC weight percent of 0.5–8.5 with ${S_2} = 2.5 - 18.5\,{\hbox{mg}}\,{\hbox{Hc/g}}\;{\hbox{rock}} $ , high hydrogen index of the range 150–450 mg Hc/g Rock, good petroleum potential of 4.5–23.5 mg Hc/g rock, mature ( $ {\hbox{TAI}} = 2.8 - 3.0 $ and $ {\hbox{T}}\max = 428 - 443{\hbox{C}} $ ), kerogen type II, and palynofacies parameters of up to 100 amorphous organic matters with algae deposited in dysoxic–anoxic to suboxic–anoxic basin, while the palynomorphs of the rocks of Khasib Formation are of amber yellow color of TAI = 2.0 with low TOC and hence not generated hydrocarbons. But, this last formation could be considered as oil reservoir only according their high porosity (15–23%) and permeability (20–45 mD) carbonate rocks with structural anticline closure trending NW-SE. That oil have generated and expelled during two phases; the first is during Early Palaeogene that accumulated in traps of the Cretaceous structural deformation, while the second is during Late Neogene’s.  相似文献

The Ordovician System, cropping out in southern and west-central Jordan, consists entirely of a 750 m thick clastic sequence that can be subdivided into six formations. The lower Disi Formation starts conformably above the Late Cambrian Umm Ishrin Formation. According to Cruziana furcifera occurring in the upper third of the Disi Formation, an Early Ordovician age is confirmed. The Disi Formation, consisting mainly of downstream accretion (DA) fluvial architectural element, was deposited in a proximal braidplain flowing N–NE from the southerly-located Arabian–Nubian Shield towards the Tethys Seaway. The braidplain depositional environment evolved into a braidplain-dominated delta through the middle and upper parts of the Disi Formation and the lower part of the overlying Um Saham Formation. The delta was replaced by siliciclastic tidal flats, that in turn evolved into an upper to lower shoreface environment through the upper part of the Um Saham Formation. The depositional environment attained the maximum bathymetric depth during the deposition of the lower and central parts of the third unit, the Hiswa Formation, where offshore graptolite-rich mudstone with intercalated hummocky cross-stratified tempestites were deposited. The Tethys Seaway regressed back through the upper part of the Hiswa Formation promoting a resumption of the lower–upper shoreface sedimentation. Oscillation between the lower to upper shoreface depositional environment characterized the entire fourth unit, the Dubaydib Formation, as well as the Tubeiylliat Sandstone Member of the fifth unit, the Mudawwara Formation. The depositional history of the Ordovician sequence was terminated by a glaciofluvial regime that finally was gradually replaced by a shoreface depositional environment throughout the last unit, the Ammar Formation.  相似文献

Serikagni Formation (lower–middle Miocene) was studied at four outcrop sections within Sinjar Anticline, Para (the western plunge), Jaddala, Sinjar, (Southern limb), and Noaniaa (Northern limb) of Sinjar Mountain, which is part of foothill zone in northwest Iraq. This formation is composed of Globigerina limestone, marly limestone intercalated with marl, deposited in quiet, deep marine environment. Palynological analyses and the percentages of palynological matter were determined. Palynofacies analysis was recorded for paleoenvironmental interpretation. Mineralogical investigations and petrographical analyses were done. Geochemical analyses for the determination of the major constituents (CaO, MgO, and I.R.),the secondary constituents (SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, Na2O, K2O, and trace elements (Sr, Mn, Cu, Zn, Co, Cr, Pb) in the rock samples were accomplished. The calcite is the predominant mineral which is mostly of micrite types as well as spary calcite. The insoluble residue (I.R.) has negative correlation with the carbonate percentages in the rock formation as observed by the XRD analyses. Clay minerals show low occurrence represented by palygorskite, montmorillonite, and sepiolite. Geochemical differences can be noticed between the limy and marly facies constituting the same formation. Differences are also observed between the geochemistry and mineralogy of the four studied localities such as the relatively more pure limestone in Jaddala and Para sections than Sinjar and Noaniaa sections which indicate the higher percentages of marly limestone. This is believed to be due to the geographic location of these sections within the main depositional environment, as well as the consequences of sea level fluctuation. Two palynofacies (PF-1) and (PF-2) were identified. Palynomorphs are more numerous with high percentages (>80%) of amorphous organic matter (AOM) is present in the PF-1. The lithological association of this palynofacies is limestone and marly limestone. This palynofacies 1, indicate the deep marine depositional environment. The second palynofacies (PF-2) reflect low quantities (less than 40%) of AOM, with increase of phytoclasts (translucent-type) to more than 30% and the miospores (small spores and pollen grains) to more than 20%. The lithological association of this palynofacies is marl and marly limestone. This palynofacies 2, indicate the nearshore and shallow marine depositional environment.  相似文献

The upper portion of the Cuyo Group in the Zapala region, south‐eastern Neuquén Basin (Western Argentina), encompasses marine and transitional deposits (Lajas Formation) overlain by alluvial rocks (Challacó Formation). The Challacó Formation is covered by the Mendoza Group above a second‐order sequence boundary. The present study presents the stratigraphic framework and palaeophysiographic evolution of this Bajocian to Eo‐Calovian interval. The studied succession comprises the following genetic facies associations: (i) offshore and lower shoreface–offshore transition; (ii) lower shoreface; (iii) upper shoreface; iv) intertidal–subtidal; (v) supratidal–intertidal; (vi) braided fluvial to delta plain; (vii) meandering river; and (viii) braided river. The stratigraphic framework embraces four third‐order depositional sequences (C1 to C4) whose boundaries are characterized by the abrupt superposition of proximal over distal facies associations. Sequences C1 to C3 comprise mostly littoral deposits and display well‐defined, small‐scale transgressive–regressive cycles associated with fourth‐order depositional sequences. Such high‐frequency cycles are usually bounded by ravinement surfaces associated with transgressive lags. At last, the depositional sequence C4 delineates an important tectonic reorganization probably associated with an uplift of the Huincul Ridge. This is suggested by an inversion of the transport trend, north‐westward during the deposition of C1 to C3 depositional sequences (Lajas Formation) to a south‐west trend during the deposition of the braided fluvial strata related to the C4 depositional sequence (Challacó Formation).  相似文献

The iron mineralization is hosted in carbonate beds of the Garagu Formation (Early Cretaceous) at Gara Mountain, Duhok Governorate, Kurdistan Region, NE Iraq. The Garagu Formation is composed of a series of limestone and siltstone beds with iron-rich beds in the middle part. The iron-rich limestones are iron-rich oolitic grainstone and bioclastic wackestone with hematite and goethite minerals. Geochemical results drawn from this study indicate that the percentage of iron in these beds reaches 19.73 %. Moreover, petrographical investigation of thin and polished sections reveals the presence of different types of fossils, indicating an open marine interior platform depositional environment. Different iron minerals, including hematite, goethite, siderite, pyrite and magnetite, were identified in the sections, and their geneses were related to syngenetic and diagenetic processes. The geochemical distribution of major and trace elements, as well as the V/Ni, V/(V+Ni), V/Cr and Sr/Ba ratios, indicates a reducing environment during the precipitation of carbonate sediments and a subsequent oxidizing condition during the concentration of iron minerals via diagenesis.  相似文献

马兰黄土平均沉积速率为0.078毫米/年.但又可分为三个沉积速率层段,即上部中等,中部最大,下部最小.沉积速率的变化与黄土颗粒粒径有关.粒度粗,分选好.沉积速率最小.反之.沉积速率则大.更重要的是,沉积速率受控于古气候的演化.气候愈旱干、寒冷.沉降黄土的次数增多.沉积速率就愈大.相反.暖湿气候则不利于黄土沉积.黄土-古土壤系列反映了这期间气候韵律和黄土沉积速率的关系.  相似文献

Groundwater from the Quaternary loess aquifer of La Pampa, central Argentina, has significant problems with high concentrations of As (up to 5300 μg L−1) as well as other potentially toxic trace elements such as F, B, Mo, U, Se and V. Total As concentrations in 45 loess samples collected from the aquifer have a range of 3–18 mg kg−1 with a mean of 8 mg kg−1. These values are comparable to world-average sediment As concentrations. Five samples of rhyolitic ash from the area have As concentrations of 7–12 mg kg−1. Chemical analysis included loess sediments and extracted porewaters from two specially cored boreholes. Results reveal a large range of porewater As concentrations, being generally higher in the horizons with highest sediment As concentrations. The displaced porewaters have As concentrations ranging up to 7500 μg L−1 as well as exceptionally high concentrations of some other oxyanion species, including V up to 12 mg L−1. The highest concentrations are found in a borehole located in a topographic depression, which is a zone of likely groundwater discharge and enhanced residence time. Comparison of sediment and porewater data does not reveal unequivocally the sources of the As, but selective extract data (acid-ammonium oxalate and hydroxylamine hydrochloride) suggest that much of the As (and V) is associated with Fe oxides. Primary oxides such as magnetite and ilmenite may be partial sources but given the weathered nature of many of the sediments, secondary oxide minerals are probably more important. Extract compositions also suggest that Mn oxide may be an As source. The groundwaters of the region are oxidising, with dissolved O2, NO3 and SO4 normally present and As(V) usually the dominant dissolved As species. Under such conditions, the solubility of Fe and Mn oxides is low and As mobilisation is strongly controlled by sorption–desorption reactions. Desorption may be facilitated by the relatively high-pH conditions of the groundwaters in the region (7.0–8.8) and high concentrations of potential competitors (e.g. V, P, HCO3). PHREEQC modelling suggests that the presence of V at the concentrations observed in the Pampean porewaters can suppress the sorption of As to hydrous Fe(III) oxide (HFO) by up to an order of magnitude. Bicarbonate had a comparatively small competitive effect. Oxalate extract concentrations have been used to provide an upper estimate of the amount of labile As in the sediments. A near-linear correlation between oxalate-extractable and porewater As in one of the cored boreholes investigated has been used to estimate an approximate Kd value for the sediments of 0.94 L kg−1. This low value indicates that the sediments have an unusually low affinity for As.  相似文献

A total of 85 samples, collected from the UBGH1-9 core taken from the Ulleung Basin, East Sea, Korea, were analyzed using diatom assemblages. 111 diatom species belonging to 46 genera were identified, and three diatom assemblage zones were established on the basis of occurrence and distribution pattern of diatoms. Diatom assemblage zone I(134.10–174 m) is characterized by a relatively high abundance of marine species, while the increased number of the brackish species is recorded in diatom assemblage zone II(75–125 m). The assemblage zones IIIa became drastic drop of valve abundances and brackish planktons, whereas it became increase during the IIIb. High Td values which indicate an influence of warm current are recorded both in diatom assemblage zone I and III, and low Td values in diatom assemblage zone II. Analysis of diatom assemblages indicating that the depositional condition moved from oceanic to littoral-neritic environments and that paleotemperature underwent a shift from warm to cold condition at the middle interval, and from cold to warm condition in the upper interval of the UBGH1-9 core. This suggests that the lower(130–162 m) and upper intervals(0–20 m) of the UBGH1-9 core were deposited in the warm current condition(Tsushima Warm Current).  相似文献

The study of hydrogeochemistry of the Mio-Pliocene sedimentary rock aquifer system in Veeranam catchment area produced a large geochemical dataset. Groundwater samples were collected at 52 sites over 963.86 km2 area and analyzed for major ions. The large number of data can lead to difficulties in the integration, interpretation and representation of the results. Two multivariate statistical methods, Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) and Factor analysis (FA), were applied to a subgroup of the dataset to evaluate their usefulness to classify the groundwater samples, and to identify geochemical processes controlling groundwater geochemistry. Hydrochemical data for 52 groundwater samples were subjected to Q- and R- mode factor and cluster analysis. R-mode analysis reveals the inter-relations among the variables studied and the Q-mode analysis reveals the inter-relations among the samples studied. The R-mode factor analysis shows that Ca, Mg and Cl with HCO3 account for most of the electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids and total hardness of groundwater. The ‘single dominance’ nature of the majority of the factors in the R-mode analysis indicates non-mixing or partial mixing of different types of groundwater. Both Q-mode factor and Q-mode cluster analyses indicate an exchange between the river water and the groundwater in the vicinity. The rock water interaction like flood basin back swamp deposits of silty clayey formation is the major cause for the cluster II classification. Cluster classification map reveals that 58% of the study area comes under cluster II classification.  相似文献

通过微量元素和稀土元素地球化学分析,对长江三峡地区陡山沱组层型剖面--田家园子剖面成冰系南沱组顶部和埃迪卡拉系陡山沱组下部102个岩石样品进行了地球化学研究。重点分析了氧化还原敏感元素(Zn,Co,U,Mo,Ni,V)的富集特征,并探讨其可能成因机制以及三峡地区成冰纪-埃迪卡拉纪转换时期的水体特征。结果表明:在南沱组顶部仅Zn和Co富集;在盖帽白云岩下部,氧化还原敏感元素均富集,而在盖帽白云岩上部,除Zn和V外,其他氧化还原敏感元素均亏损;在陡山沱组Ⅱ段下部,氧化还原敏感元素由最初的亏损,逐渐变为较稳定的富集。在陡山沱组下部,出现2次明显的富集峰值,分别出现在剖面的0.4m处(盖帽白云岩中间)和6.5m处(陡山沱组Ⅱ段下部)。整个剖面大部分样品具有Eu的轻微正异常(Eu/Eu*<1.6), 而在剖面0.4m和6.5m处,Eu具有明显的正异常,结合稀土配分类型、Y/Ho值、La异常、Ce异常等指标,推测这2次异常均可能受到深海热液流的影响,而缺氧海水的上涌造成水体缺氧,导致这些元素出现富集峰值。U/Th、V/(V+Ni)以及稀土元素指标综合指示,三峡地区南沱组顶部冰碛岩应为氧化环境下的沉积物;随着冰川消融,冰融淡水注入古海洋,陡山沱组盖帽碳酸盐的沉积受冰融淡水的影响,深部缺氧海水的上涌使沉积水体经历氧化-缺氧-氧化的转变,海水的分层性较强;而陡山沱组Ⅱ段下部沉积环境以分层性较弱的弱氧化环境为主。  相似文献

We have studied the geochemistry of Late Triassic cherts from tectonic sedimentary complexes of different structural levels of the Samarka terrane. The results show that the contents and distribution patterns of major rock-forming oxides, trace elements, and REE in the cherts of the upper and lower structural levels are somewhat different, which is due to different facies environments of chert accumulation. In particular, the contents of Al2O3, TiO2, and K2O gradually decrease and the contents of Fe2O3 and MnO increase downsection. The contents of Zr, Rb, Hf, Th, and Cr, which were supplied into the bottom sediments with a terrigenous suspension of heavy-mineral fragments, are twice to ten-fold lower than their average contents in the upper crust. In contrast, the contents of Pb, Cu, and Ni, which got into the sediments mostly with metalliferous hydrothermal solutions, are rather high and even exceed their average contents in the middle and upper crust. That is, the contents of the first-group trace elements gradually decrease and the contents of the second-group trace elements increase from upper to lower structural level. The calculated negative Ce anomaly gradually decreases from lower (0.75) to upper (0.88) structural level. The geochemical parameters altogether indicate that the cherts accumulated in the same pelagic depositional environment but in its different parts. The Katen complex composing the lower structural level is the most remote from the continental margin, and the Amba-Matay complex forming the upper structural level is the most proximal. Based on the geochemical and biostratigraphic data and on the time of accretion of paleo-oceanic fragments, we have established the location of each complex within the not yet subducted oceanic plate and estimated the extensionof this plate. Throughout the Jurassic, about 6000 km of the oceanic lithosphere was subducted beneath the eastern margin of the Paleo-Asian continent and partly accreted to it.  相似文献

The late Cenomanian–early Turonian deposits in Tunisia recording the OAE2 event are commonly attributed to the Bahloul Formation. These deposits are composed of dark clayey limestone and organic-rich black shales with abundant planktic foraminifera. At the Bargou area, Oued Kharroub section, these organic-rich deposits include siliceous beds with abundant radiolarians recalling the “Livello Bonarelli”. A total of 25 radiolarian species are identified with a maximum of 18 species per sample. Moreover, the species skeleton preservation is usually poor to moderate in the most studied samples [estimated preservation index (PI) values ranging between 4 and 6]. Two successive assemblages are distinguished. The oldest one (RI) is dominated by nassellarians, which includes mainly Stichomitra, Pseudodictyomitra and Rhopalosyringium genera. It is included within the upper part of foraminiferal Rotalipora cushmani Zone and lower part of Whiteinella archaeocretacea zone. In contrast, the youngest assemblage (RII), which belongs to the upper part of the W. archaeocretacea zone and the earliest Turonian Watinoceras ammonite assemblage, is dominated by spumellarians and includes mainly Archaeocenosphaera, Cavaspongia, Pseudoeucyrtis and Pyramispongia genera. In addition, major and trace elements are analysed to test whether the geochemical record was synchronous to the biotic event or not. Thus, selected crossplots, Al2O3 vs. SiO2 and Al2O3 vs. TiO2, are used to evaluate the detrital input, and V/Cr vs. V/(V?+?Ni) and U/Th vs. V/(V?+?Ni) are used to evaluate the bottom redox conditions and the primary productivity within the Bahloul Formation. A strong Si/Al increase is marked in the lower part of the siliceous and organic-rich Bahloul Formation that could be explained by a local increase in upwelling-related biogenic SiO2 (silica-secreting organisms). Relative low abundance of terrigenous-related Ti/Al and K/Al ratios and enrichment of some productivity proxies such as Ba (organic matter related trace elements) suggests that the Bahloul was of relatively elevated primary productivity and minimal detrital input. Enrichments in redox-sensitive trace metals U and V in the Bahloul Formation deposits and redox indices, such as V/(V?+?Ni), U/Th and V/Cr, indicate that oxygen-restricted conditions prevailed during the late Cenomanian–earliest Turonian times and correlate well with relative abundances of some radiolarian and foraminiferal paleo-environmental indicators. In addition, indicators of detrital flux variations are used. Al2O3 shows a slight positive correlation with TiO2 and a less distinct correlation with SiO2.  相似文献

Oriented samples of sediments from Ariyalur Group, Cauvery Basin, south India, were studied for low field anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) measurements to unravel the magnetic fabrics and paleocurrent directions. The results of AMS parameters of the sediments indicate primary depositional fabrics for Sillakkudi, Ottakovil and Kallamedu sandstone formations and secondary fabric for Kallankurichchi limestone formation. The obtained low degree of anisotropy (P j ), oblate shape AMS ellipsoid and distribution of maximum (K 1) and minimum (K 3) susceptibility axes on equal area projection confirm the primary sedimentary fabric for Sillakkudi, Ottakovil and Kallamedu Formations. In the case of ferruginous, lower arenaceous, Gryphaea limestone and upper arenaceous limestone beds of Kallankurichchi Formation have recorded more than one fabric. The observed AMS parameters like shape factor (T) (prolate to oblate), q value and random distribution of minimum (K 3) and maximum (K 1) susceptibility axes are supported for secondary fabrics in Kallankurichchi Formation as a result of post-depositional processes. Based on petrographic studies, it can be established that K 1 AMS axis of biotite mineral could represent the flow direction. The established paleocurrent direction for Sillakkudi is NW–SE direction while Ottakovil and Kallamedu Formations recorded NE–SW direction. Overall the paleoflow directions observed for Ariyalur Group is NE–SW to NW–SE.  相似文献

Geochemical characteristics of the Middle Permian mudstones from the Longge Formation in the Jiaomuri area, central uplift zone of Qiangtang Basin have been analysed to constrain their provenance, tectonic setting, depositional redox condition and palaeoclimate. Based on the geochemical parameters like CIA, PIA, ICV values and Th/U, K/Rb ratios indicate that the source rocks were affected by low degree weathering conditions. The U/Th, V/Cr, Ni/Co, V/Sc ratios and Uau, C‐values of samples suggest that the mudstones were formed in an oxic environment, with arid palaeoclimate. Bulk‐rock geochemistry analysis indicates that they are mainly arkose and subarkose, derived from dominantly andesitic rocks, probably a mixing of felsic and mafic provenance. The CIA, PIA and ICV values of these samples suggest that the Longge mudstones are compositionally immature and related to moderate weathering. The tectonic discrimination diagrams, as well as critical trace and REE characteristic parameters imply an oceanic arc or continental arc setting for the depositional basin of mudstones from the Longge Formation, probably back‐arc basin. This study supports an occurrence of archipelagic oceanic basins in the Jiaomuri area in the Middle Permian, which provides evidence for the research of the Longmu Co–Shuanghu–Lancangjiang Suture. Flow properties of turbidity currents in Bute Inlet, British Columbia   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Bute Inlet, a fiord along the southwestern coast of British Columbia, Canada, includes a sea-floor sedimentation system 70 km in length which resembles those developed on some large submarine fans. Turbidity currents originate at the head of the flord on the submerged delta fronts of the Homathko and Southgate rivers. They move downslope for about 30 km within a single large incised channel, spill onto a depositional area termed the channel lobe complex, and finally spread out over a low-relief distal splay area that passes 55 km downslope into a flat basin floor. During the present study, turbidity currents in Bute Inlet were studied using sea-floor morphology, bottom sediment distribution, and in-situ instrument packages. The mean velocities of the most recent flows, estimated from surface sediment grain size, has varied between 100–120 cm s–1 in the incised channel, 20–50 cms–1 in the channel lobe complex, and < 5 cm s–1 on the basin floor. Velocities based on channel morphology are poorly constrained but are in the range of 160-425 cm s–1 in the upper part of the incised channel and 66 cm s–1 in the lower channel. Calculated flow densities range from 1.049 to 1.028g cm–3. Turbidity flows monitored in 1986 using submerged instrument packages exceeded 32 m in thickness in the upper part of the incised channel, where the maximum measured velocity was 330 cm s–1. At the head of the channel lobe complex the maximum velocity had declined to 75 cm s–1. The density of the monitored flows is estimated at 1.025-1.03g cm–3. The cored sediments and channel morphology yield estimates of mean flow velocities that are generally greater than those measured by the in-situ instrument packages and estimated from modern surface sediments. The former suggest past flow velocities up to 500 cm s–1 in the incised channel, about 20 cm s–1 in spillover deposits along the lower part of the incised channel, and 100-140 cm s–1 in the distal splay. The contrast between the velocities of modern and past flows suggests that past flows may have been considerably larger and more energetic than those presently occurring in Bute Inlet. The size properties of sediments in the monitored turbidity flows suggest a strong vertical size gradient in the suspended load during transport. The surface and cored sediments fine downslope from the channel lobe complex to distal splay area. Distinctive sedimentary sequences are recognized in cores from the spillover lobes, channel lobe complex, distal splay, and basin floor depositional areas. Many individual turbidites grade downslope from massive Ta divisions in the channel lobe complex and probably in the incised channel to Ta divisions overlain by slurried divisions on the distal splay and largely slurried beds on the basin floor. These facies suggest that individual currents commonly evolve from largely cohesionless suspensions in the incised channel and channel lobe complex to dilute cohesive slurries downslope on the distal splay and basin floor. Many flows in Bute Inlet fail to develop a traction state of sedimentation and the resulting turbidites lack well-developed Tb. Tc, and Td divisions.  相似文献
