A rock mass strength classification, involving eight parameters, has been applied to selected inselbergs in the Namib Desert. The inselbergs are formed of schists, gneiss, granite and marble. Their slope inclinations are in a strength equilibrium with their rocks. The study suggests that the strength classification is consistent and has a general validity, and that rock slopes, undergoing uniform weathering, retreat to form slopes which are adjusted to their rock mass strength: this is a more general statement than the common hypothesis of parallel retreat. The favoured hypothesis of slope evolution in the Namib is one of retreat rather than downwearing.  相似文献

This paper investigates the reasons for the presence of both domed inselbergs (bornhardts) and boulder inselbergs (koppies) on the Matopos Batholith, Zimbabwe. XRF and microprobe analyses of rock samples from 16 bornhardts and 24 koppies have shown no significant chemical or mineralogical differences which might indicate greater weathering resistance of the bornhardts. Many bornhardts are located on massive bodies of slowly-cooled porphyritic granite which were emplaced at a relatively late stage in the evolution of the batholith. The surrounding rocks are less porphyritic and appear to have been foliated during deformation associated with emplacement of the later bodies. The entire batholith has been affected by post-emplacement tectonism which has created three major fracture systems. The morphological differences between bornhardts and koppies in this area are therefore considered to reflect differences in jointing which arise both from the primary igneous emplacement process and from tectonic deformation.  相似文献

The geochronologic history of the northern portion of the Western Gneiss Region, south-central Norway has been investigated by UPb analyses of zircon and titanite from various basement units and one supracrustal gneiss. A six-point (four zircon and two titanite) discordia line from a migmatite melt-pod and its host-gneiss (Åstfjord migmatite gneiss) defines upper- and lower-intercept ages of 1659.1 ± 1.8 Ma and 393.6 ± 3.6 Ma, respectively. The upper-intercept age is interpreted as a time of tonalite emplacement and migmatite formation in the region.A seven-point (three zircon and four titanite) discordia line from the Ingdal granite gneiss has similar upper- and lower-intercept ages (1652.9 ± 1.7 Ma and 396.1 ± 4.9 Ma, respectively) and the upper-intercept age is interpreted as the time of granite crystallization. The lower-intercept age from both theÅstfjord migmatite gneiss and the Ingdal granite gneiss is interpreted as the time of regional metamorphic resetting and is evidence for Caledonian influence in the region.Titanite from these two gneiss units, as well as from other tonalite, granite, and supracrustal gneisses throughout the Western Gneiss Region displays a remarkably uniform pattern of discordance. Titanite discordance is variable from 6% to 100% and, in general, the degree of discordance is proportional to the Caledonian metamorphic grade of nearby supracrustal schists. Episodic, diffusional lead loss from titanite during Caledonian metamorphism probably caused the discordance pattern, but a combined mechanism of mixing and diffusional lead loss cannot be ruled out. In any case, the seventeen-point titanite and zircon discordia line clearly indicates that: (1) the bulk of the granitoid terrane in this portion of the Western Gneiss Region was emplaced, migmatized, and cooled in a short time interval about 1657 Ma ago; (2) a second, short-lived thermal event that exceeded the blocking temperature of titanite occurred about 395 Ma ago; and (3) titanite and zircon in the region were not isotopically disturbed by comparable geologic events in the period from 1657 to 395 Ma, or at any time after 395 Ma.  相似文献

Ore deposits are frequently associated with various types of rock alteration that may affect the physical properties of rocks, and result in a characteristic signature of the deposits. The present work focuses on the use of geophysical data in targeting areas hosting Fe-oxide Cu–Au (IOCG) deposits west of the Kiruna mining district, northern Sweden. It is noted that IOCG deposits in different areas worldwide (e.g., Australia, Canada) are preferentially located in proximity to faults associated with deformation zones of regional relevance, and that the deposits are hosted in areas affected by potassic to sodic alteration. This study shows that at a semi-regional scale IOCG deposits occur within areas of high positive gravity anomalies, high values of estimated potassium content and high K/Th ratios, which is an expression of potassic alteration. High magnetic anomalies are associated with magnetite occurrences, while low linear magnetic anomalies mark fault/shear zones, in proximity of which the majority of the IOCG deposits occur.  相似文献

Age spectrum analyses of blue-green hornblendes from amphibolites from the Western Shaw Belt, East Pilbara, Western Australia, indicate an age of at least 3200 Ma for early regional metamorphism. Ages on hornblende and muscovite from the narrow contact zone with the adjacent Yule Batholith probably date updoming of the granitoid gneiss terranes at 2950 Ma. Hornblendes from within the Shaw Batholith and from a contact zone of a post-tectonic granitoid yield ages of 2840–2900 Ma, indicating either prolonged high temperatures within the granitoid gneiss terranes or a separate thermal pulse associated with the intrusion of post-tectonic granitoids. The preservation of very old hornblendes in a narrow greenstone belt surrounded by massive granitoid gneiss domes indicates that remarkable contrasts in metamorphic geotherms existed over short distances during the Late Archaean, suggesting that updoming occurred during a period of rapid tectonism.  相似文献

The model SLOP3D is used to identify characteristic aspects of slope development under different conditions. A series of slopes along the Kall valley in the northern Eifel is reproduced by a developmental sequence of model slopes. The spatial and temporal variations of the components of slope development systems (relief, slope form, weathering rates, denudation rates) are discussed by means of mass movement and wash denudation models. The negative feedbacks between system components create a tendency towards the establishment of a dynamic equilibrium which is reached, however, only if the endogenic and exogenic conditions remain constant for the required relaxation time. The latter is shown to be a function of slope length, of the rate of uplift, of the denudational process type, and of the intensity of exogenic inputs (e.g. precipitation). Varying rock resistance leads to the development of shield inselbergs only if the rate of denudation becomes higher than the maximum possible weathering rate of the resistant bedrock.  相似文献

We have measured concentrations of heat producing elements (Th, U, and K) in 58 samples representative of the main lithologies in a 100 km transect of the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield, from the Michipicoten (Wawa) greenstone belt, near Wawa, Ontario, through a domal gneiss terrane of amphibolite grade, to the granulite belt of the Kapuskasing Structural Zone, near Foleyet. This transect has been interpreted as an oblique cross section through some 25 km of crust, uplifted along a major thrust fault, and thus provides an opportunity to examine in detail a continuous profile into deep continental crust of Archean age. Mean heat production values for these terranes, based on aereal distribution of major rock types and calculated from their Th, U, and K concentrations are: Michipicoten greenstone belt = 0.72 μW m−3; Wawa domal gneiss terrane (amphibolite grade) = 1.37 μW m−3; Kapuskasing granulites = 0.44 μW m−3. Among the silicic plutonic rocks (tonalites, granites, and their derivative gneisses), the relatively large variation in heat production correlates with modal abundances of accessory minerals including allanite, sphene, zircon, and apatite. We interpret these variations as primary (pre-metamorphic). The relatively high weighted mean heat production of the domal gneiss terrane can be accounted for by the larger proportion there of late-stage Th-, U-, and K-rich granitoid plutons. These may have been derived from the underlying Kapuskasing granulite terrane, leaving it slightly depleted in heat producing elements. Transport of Th, U, and K, therefore, could have taken place in silicate melts rather than in aqueous or carbonic metamorphic fluids. This conclusion is supported by the lack of a statistically significant difference in heat production between tonalites, tonalite gneisses and mafic rocks of amphibolite versus granulite grade.The pre-metamorphic radioactivity profile for this crustal section is likely to have been uniformly low, with a mean heat production value less than 1 μW m−3. This result is distinctly different from measured profiles in more silicic terranes, which show decreasing heat production with depth. This implies fundamental differences in crustal radioactivity distributions between granitic and more mafic terranes, and may be an important factor in selective reactivation of lithologically different terranes, possibly resulting in preferential stabilization of basic terranes in the geological record. Our results indicate that a previously determined apparently linear heat flow-heat production relationship for the Kapuskasing area does not relate to the distribution of heat production with depth. Low, but significant heat production, 0.4–0.5 μW m−3, continues to lower crustal depths with no correlation to the depth parameter from the linear relationship. This low heat production may be a minimum average granulite heat production and suggests that, in general, heat flow through the Moho is 8–10 mW m−2 lower than the reduced heat flow calculated from the heat flow-heat production regression.  相似文献

Major intrusions of granitic rocks are found in several tectonic settings and, in all cases, crustal melts may contribute to the volumes of granitic magma. High-grade metamorphism and partial melting of the crust take place predominantly under fluid-absent conditions. We present a model for calculating the amounts of melt that may be formed by fluid-absent breakdown of micas and amphiboles in common crustal rock types (pelitic, quartzofeldspathic, intermediate and mafic). Melt proportions depend mainly on the kind of source rock, the pressure at which melting takes place, the temperature and the hydrous mineral (H2O) content of the source. As a consequence of the pressure dependence of water solubility in silicate melts, any given source rock will produce more melt, by a given fluid-absent reaction, at lower pressure. At a given pressure, higher-temperature reactions can produce more melt from a given source rock. Based on a survey of the compositions of common rock types, we show that the amounts of melt can vary from < 10to> 50vol.%. Thus, crustal rocks vary widely in their “fertility” as magma sources, depending on the types and amounts of hydrous phases they contain. In general, muscovite breakdown in pelites will yield only small quantities of melt and lead to migmatite formation. Biotite breakdown in pelites occurs at higher temperature and, because most high-grade pelites (below granulite grade) are biotite-rich, can yield up to about 50 vol.% of granitoid melt. Rocks of intermediate composition and hornblende-rich mafic rocks are potentially highly fertile magma sources also, provided that the high temperatures necessary for biotite and hornblende breakdown are realized. Pyroxene-rich mafic rocks and quartzofeldspathic rocks are much less potentially fertile. Data suggest that mechanisms exist for the efficient segregation of melt and restite in systems with < 30and probably< 20vol.% melt. The pressure-temperature history of a region can greatly influence crustal source fertility through its control over the occurrence of subsolidus dehydration and melting equilibria.  相似文献

Two areas of gneissic tonalite-granodiorite are being studied in the western Wabigoon Subprovince, the Rainy Lake gneiss body and the southwestern Irene-Eltrut Lakes gneiss body. The Rainy Lake gneiss body is an aggregate of large oval structures outlined by foliation trajectories. The body is dominated by the Ash Bay dome whose leuco-gneiss core is characterized by highly foliated rocks and surrounded by a zone of mafic gneiss rich of greenstone relics. This oval dome seems to have distorted the adjacent oval structures while growing to its present size.Of the various hypotheses of doming considered herein, only two can be eliminated from further consideration (1) large-scale buckling of the gneiss-greenstone interface and (2) bending of thrust sheets while moving over rigid ramps. Diapirism sensu lato remains an attractive mechanism for the growth of the oval structures under consideration. Whether the tonality-granodiorite became a gneiss while rising actively or deforming passively, as the wall rock of magmatic diapirs, remains to be determined.  相似文献

柴达木盆地是我国和世界重要的钾盐产地,目前对地表浅层盐湖钾盐研究颇多,但对深部碎屑孔隙钾盐研究较少.本文以昆特依凹陷为例,总结柴达木盆地钾盐成矿的时空变化规律,通过对该区地质、水文、古环境及卤水储层特征等分析建立“双层钾盐”成矿模式:上层为赋存在Q p2-h盐湖相化学盐类晶体裂隙间的晶间卤水,下层是Q p1冲洪积相砂砾孔隙卤水.采用聚类分析、特征系数、介稳相图、piper三线图及氢氧同位素等数理、地球化学手段分析上、下层卤水离子含量,探讨“双层钾盐”模式成因和上、下层卤水的内在联系.研究认为,昆特依凹陷内“双层钾盐”赋存卤水均为陆相沉积环境中的盐岩溶滤水,其中上层晶间卤水更多表现为盐岩溶解,但也不乏溶滤作用,下层砂砾孔隙卤水则着重表现为石盐的溶解;上层晶间卤水表现出下层砂砾孔隙卤水深度演化的特征,下层砂砾孔隙卤水具有对深部古盐岩层及上层晶间层的继承性;昆特依凹陷周边的新近纪背斜构造区油田水在成因上也与“双层钾盐”卤水密切相关.  相似文献

Quartz-tube extensometers are used to measure rock deformations in two geodynamic observatories in Hungary in order to contribute to the investigation of recent tectonic movements on the area of the Pannonian Basin. One of the observatories is situated on the border of the Alps at Sopronbánfalva and is set in the metamorphic (gneiss) material of the mountains. The other station is in the basically karstic environment of the Mátyáshegy (Mátyás Hill) near Budapest. The aim of this paper is to investigate how the local conditions, such as structure of the observatory, topography or geologic features of the surrounding rocks, lead to additional or modified deformations of the extensometric stations. Data collected over eight years were processed and analysed to compare the observatories taking into account geologic, lithologic and topograpic properties of the measurement sites. Tidal and coherence analysis of the continuous strain measurements revealed that the instrument at Sopronbánfalva is more sensitive to atmospheric pressure loading than the extensometer at Mátyáshegy. Signal to noise values from the data processing of the short period variations support the higher stability of tidal strain measurements at Mátyáshegy. The strain rates measured by extensometers in both observatories are in good agreement with the strain rates inferred from GPS measurements of the Hungarian GPS Geodynamic Reference Network and the Central European GPS Reference Network.  相似文献

隧道围岩受地震荷载作用影响产生开裂变形,给交通、安全与经济带来极大影响,为提升隧道安全稳定性能,以某市隧道为对象,研究地震作用下深埋隧道围岩形变的数值模拟。综合考虑地震动作用与地震波扩散特性,利用FLAC软件构建三维动力模型;通过边界设置解决地震波反射问题,基于物理力学参数与地震荷载条件,通过相对变形法研究地震条件下深埋隧道围岩变形特性、能量聚集特性与安全性能。研究结果显示:深埋隧道围岩受地震荷载作用影响,形成挤让、椭圆化的变形走向;变形达到最高值时,应变能量密度高于2350 J/m^3的区域集中在隧道Ⅰ洞左侧围岩边墙和中夹岩柱上;各监测点安全系数呈非对称性,隧道右侧下角区域安全系数低于国家相关标准,计算结果与实际测量结果一致。  相似文献

In the study of rock avalanche phenomena, numerical modelling makes use of back analyses of the rock avalanche propagation for calibration of the modelling assumptions and parameters. The back analyses require knowledge of the run-out area boundaries and the thickness distribution of the deposit. Geophysical methods can be applied to retrieve the thickness distribution, but, due to strong heterogeneities and logistic problems they are seldom applied. The aim of this work is to assess the potential of integrated geophysical methods to recognise and characterise a deposit created by two rock avalanches which occurred in the Sandalp valley (Switzerland) in 1996. The topography of the site before and after the rock avalanche is known and can be used as a benchmark. Resistivity tomography, seismic P-wave tomography, and active and passive surface wave analysis have been applied on several profiles deployed both on the rock avalanche deposit and in the surrounding area. Innovative approaches for surface wave analysis based on laterally constrained inversion and multimodal inversion have been applied to the data. A comparison of the results of the geophysical investigations with the topographic benchmark has shown the capability of the geophysical methods to locate the bottom of the deposit in the areas where the contrast with the host sediments properties is significant. In these areas, the deposit has higher resistivities and lower seismic velocities than the underlying materials. In the areas where the deposit is thicker and richer in fine-grained materials the geophysical parameters are not able to discriminate between the rock avalanche deposit and the underlying sediments. As a secondary task, the geophysical methods also allowed the bedrock pattern to be outlined.  相似文献

为将雷达技术应用于地震预测,在实验室对花岗岩等不同岩性的27个岩石试样进行了加压实验观测研究,使用的雷达测量仪器是美国HP公司生产的专用RSC测量系统,观测8mm,2cm,3cm和5cm四个雷达波段,在加压的过程中自动连续测量岩石试样的雷达波反射强度随压力的变化,实验表明:反映岩石试样微波反射特性的雷达波反射强度随压力变化而变化,在实验的27个岩石试样中,无一例外,只是在不同试样、不同波段或不同极化方式的实验中存在变化幅度和趋势的差异. 岩石试样反射波强度的相对变化量为百分之几到百分之十几,花岗岩的最大变化量达到202%(113号试样),砂岩的最大变化量达到279%(212号试样). 实验结果为将雷达技术应用于地震预测、岩体及岩土工程稳定性监测和稳定性评价提出了实验依据,奠定了物理基础.  相似文献

Current models for unconformity‐associated uranium deposits predict fluid flow and ore deposition along reactivated faults in >1.76 Ga basement beneath Mesoproterozoic siliciclastic basins. In frontier regions such as the Thelon Basin in the Kivalliq region of Nunavut, little is known about the sub‐basin distribution of units and structures, making exploration targeting very tenuous. We constructed a geological map of the basement beneath the unconformity by extrapolating exposed features into the subsurface. The new map is constrained by detailed geological, geophysical, and rock property observations of outcrops adjacent to the basin and by aeromagnetic and gravity data over the geophysically transparent sedimentary basin. From rock property measurements, it is clear that the diverse magnetic and density characteristics of major rock packages provide quantitative three‐dimensional constraints. Gravity profiles forward modelled in four cross sections define broad synforms of the Amer Belt and Archean volcanic rocks that are consistent with the structural style outside the basin. Major lithotectonic entities beneath the unconformity include: supracrustal rocks of the Archean Woodburn Lake group and Marjorie Hills meta sedimentary gneiss and associated mixed granitoid and amphibolitic gneiss; the Amer Mylonite Zone and inferred mafic intrusions oriented parallel and sub‐parallel; other igneous intrusions of 2.6 Ga, 1.83 Ga, and 1.75 Ga vintage; and the <2.3 Ga to >1.84 Ga Amer Group. Four main brittle regional fault arrays (040°–060°, 075°–90°, 120°, and 150°) controlled development and preservation of the basin. The reactivated intersections of such faults along fertile basement units such as the Rumble assemblage, Marjorie Hills assemblage, Nueltin igneous rocks, and Pitz formation are the best targets for uranium exploration.  相似文献

依据研究区的地热梯度(25℃/km),在高温高压(最高温度为1050℃,最高压力为1.2GPa)条件下系统测量了横穿红河-哀牢山断裂带的元江-墨江地质剖面上的哀牢山岩群各类变质岩(千枚岩、片岩、浅粒岩、变粒岩、大理岩和片麻岩)的纵波速度.实验结果表明,不同岩类的纵波速度随温度压力变化的趋势不同.在相当于衷牢山岩群变质岩峰期变质温度和压力条件下(P=0.4-0.8GPa,T=35-700℃),测得大部分岩石的纵波速度为5.50-5.80km/s,这一纵波速度值与区域地球物理测深揭示的中地壳低速层的纵波速度相当因此,结合该区变质岩、地壳内热状态及地球物理测深研究成果可初步认为:组成哀牢山岩群的浅粒岩、变粒岩、酸性片麻岩以及部分千枚岩、片岩为该地区中地壳低速层的主要岩石类型.  相似文献

Within the Austurhorn and Vesturhorn silicic intrusions of southeastern Iceland are composite complexes that consist of pillow-like bodies of mafic and intermediate rock entirely surrounded by silicic rock. The pillows with cuspate and chilled boundaries are interpreted to indicate a liquid-liquid relationship with a silicic magma. Some pillow-like bodies have a chilled and sharp cuspate boundary, whereas others have a distinct chemical and visible gradational contact with the silicic rock. The visible scale of mixing is of the same order of magnitude as the size of the pillows enclosed in the silicic rock (mm to meters).Two important types of chemical variation in the pillows are recognized. The first type of variation occurs from mafic pillow interiors to margins and into the surrounding silicic rock. These variations are due to mechanical mixing between mafic magma and the silicic magma. The second type of chemical variation occurs between individual pillows. Large variations occur between pillows in P and Ti at nearly constant silica. These variations cannot have resulted from in situ simple magma mixing or crystal fractionation, and must have originated at depth below the present level of exposure. These compositions could have been derived from separate mafic (or intermediate) magma bodies or from a single zoned and/or stratified magma body. Because the Austurhorn, Vesturhorn, and Ardnamurchan composite complexes all exhibit similar variations in P and Ti and because these occurrences are separated in space and time, they are thought to have had similar processes occur during their evolution. The chemical variations are interpreted to have resulted from mafic magma that has underplated silicic magma and become zoned/stratified due to the effects of magma mixing and cooling-crystallization.  相似文献

A new geochemical model is used here for the first time in the interpretation of intra-plate igneous rocks. This model is able to simulate one major and so far unexplained feature of the Italian potassic magmas: the regional isotopic trends along the chain of volcanoes. Starting from the now widely accepted inference that these trends are a result of large-scale mixing between continental-crustal and mantle materials within the lithosphere and prior to magma generation and volcanism, isotopic requirements of a suitable magma source are illustrated. This mixing has been linked with extreme enrichment in potassium and associated elements by the concept of source metasomatism. Here a one-dimensional diffusion-controlled advective flow model to simulate concentration and isotopic changes during metasomatism is described, as are the conditions under which this model can schematically reproduce the required source features.Modelling suggests that progressive regional changes from northwest to southeast in end-member contributions (i.e. the fluid/rock ratio in a metasomatic model) was controlled by progressive variations in either the fluid velocity or the duration of the fluid flow. Both could have acted concomitantly if the fluid was released by a mantle hotspot and infiltrated crustal material—possibly located in the lithospheric mantle—during anti-clockwise rotation of Italy in the Tertiary. It is suggested that previously metasomatised domains in the lithosphere were susceptible to fusion under tensional stress, so that the alkaline volcanism now traces the path of the ancient plate movement over the asthenosphere hotspot.  相似文献

Here we report an integrated study of zircon U-Pb age and Hf isotope composition for a gneiss sample from the Kongling terrain in the Yangtze Craton. CL imaging reveals that most zircons are magmatic, and a few of them have thin metamorphic rims. The magmatic zircons gave a weighted mean U-Pb age of 3218±13 Ma, indicating the gneiss is the oldest basement rock in the Yangtze Craton found to date.
