{M[UO2¦AsO4]2 · nH2O} with M=Cu2+, Co2+, Ni2+ has been synthesized from reagent grade chemicals and by ion exchange of trögerite {HUO2AsO4 · 4 H2O}. Synthetic meta-zeunerite (M=Cu2+), meta-kirchheimerite (M=Co2+) and nickel-uranylarsenate are all tetragonal. The cell parameters determined from Guinier-Hägg diffraction data for {Cu[UO2¦AsO4]2 · 8 H2O} are a=b=7.10 Å and c=17.42 Å, with Z=2 and the measured density 3.70 g cm?3. The cell parameters for {Co[UO2¦AsO4]2 · 7 H2O} and {Ni[UO2¦AsO4]2 · 7 H2O} are a=b=20.25 Å and c=17.20 Å, with Z=16 and the measured density 3.82 and 3.74 g cm?3, respectively. The solubility products for synthetic Cu-, Co- and Ni-uranylarsenate at 25° C are 10?49.20, 10?45.34 and 10?45.10, respectively. The zeta-potential remains negative between pH=2 and pH=9 and is strongly affected by the presence of different cations.  相似文献

Electron spin resonance of allowed (Δm=0) and forbidden (Δm=±1) hyperfine transitions of Mn2+ in sodalite, Na8(Al6Si6O24)Cl2, is reported. No fine structure other than the central M=∣+1/2>?∣?1/2> transition is observed. From intensity ratios of forbidden to allowed transitions and doubling of allowed lines in powder spectra the crystal field parameter |D| was estimated as equal to (8±5) 10?3 cm?1. The g-value for the spectrum was obtained as equal to 2.0033±0.0005. The hyperfine structure constant |A| was 83±1 gauss, equal to (77±1) 10?4 cm?1.  相似文献

Blanfordite (I), winchite (II), and juddite (III), all showing vivid colors and pleochroism, from highly oxidized parageneses of Indian gondites were studied by microprobe, Mössbauer, and microscope-spectrophotometric techniques and by X-ray structure refinements. The compositions of the Mn-bearing minerals were close to diopsideacmite (I) and magnesio-arfvedsonite to magnesio-riebeckite (II and III). Transition metal ions are located inM(1)-octahedra (I) or predominantlyM(2)-octahedra (II, III). Mössbauer spectra of57Fe(IS, ΔE Q) are typical of octahedral Fe3+ only. Polarized absorption spectra in the UV/VIS/NIR ranges explain color and pleochroism of the minerals. The position of the UV-“edge” is correlated with Fe3+-contents of the minerals, except for judditeEZ, where the edge shows an unusual low energy position. This is most likely due to Mie-scattering of submicroscopic inclusions of braunite with nearly uniform dimensions. In the VIS range, the spectra are dominated by a complex band system between 15,000 and 20,000 cm?1. Energies and ?-values of component bands are compatible with those of Mn3+ d-d transitions in other Mn3+-bearing silicates. The polarization behavior of component bands can best be explained by aC 2(C2″) symmetry of the crystal field. The Jahn-Teller splitting (<9,000 cm?1) of the5 E g ground state of Mn3+ inO h crystal fields is appreciably smaller than in other Mn3+-silicates. Crystal field parameters 10Dq, (I) 13,650, (II) ca. 11,640, and (III) 11,925 cm?1, are near to that in piemontite. The crystal field stabilization energy of Mn3+, (I) 146, (II) ca. 140, (III) 142 \({{{\text{kJ}}} \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{{\text{kJ}}} {\text{g}}}} \right. \kern-0em} {\text{g}}}{\text{ - atom}}_{{\text{Mn}}^{{\text{3 + }}} } \) , is appreciably smaller than that found in other Mn3+-silicates (piemontites and manganian andalusites, viridines and kanonaite).  相似文献

Groundwater of the unconfined aquifer (1,100 sq. km) of a two-tier coastal aquifer located in the Amol–Ghaemshahr plain, Mazandaran Province, Northern Iran, is classified into fresh and brackish water types. Fresh groundwater (FGW) samples (n = 36) are characterized by Ca2+ > Na> Mg2+ > K+ and HCO3 ? > Cl? > SO4 2? > NO3 ?. Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient matrices, factor analysis data, values of the C-ratio (av. = 0.89) and CAI and values of the molar ratios of Ca2+/HCO3 ?, Ca2+/SO4 2?, Mg2+/HCO3 ? and Mg2+/SO4 2? indicate that the ionic load in the FGW is derived essentially from carbonic acid-aided weathering of carbonates and aluminosilicates, saline/sea water trapped in the aquifer sediments (now admixed with the groundwater) and ion exchange reactions. Values of the CAI and Na+/Cl? molar ratio suggest that the part of the Ca2+ (±Mg2+) content in 23 FGW samples is derived from clay minerals of the aquifer matrix, and part of the Na+ content in 20, 12, and 3 FGW samples is derived, respectively, from alkali feldspar weathering, clay minerals of the aquifer matrix and rain water and/or halite. Brackish groundwater (BGW) samples (n = 4) contain Cl? as the dominant anion and their average total ionic concentration (38.65 meq/L) is 1.79 times higher than that of the FGW samples (21.50 meq/L). BGW pockets were generated by non-conservative mixing of FGW with the upconed saline water from the underlying saline groundwater zone of the semi-confined aquifer along bore wells involved in excessive extraction of groundwater from the unconfined aquifer. Groundwater belongs essentially to “high salinity, low sodium” irrigation water class.  相似文献

Pyrochlores, microlites, and U-betafites of pyrochlore group minerals were obtained from mixing experiments of the corresponding oxides and fluorides by hydrothermal synthesis at T = 800 °C and P = 200 MPa in the solution of 1.0 M NaF. The presence of U4+ in pyrochlore does not affect the cell parameter, which for the phases of pyrochlore–microlite series is 10.42 ± 0.01 Å. In a system with an excess of UO2, pyrochlores and microlites, containing uranium up to 0.2–0.3 atoms per formula unit (apfu), are formed. In the uranium-free system of betafites composition, perovskites and Ti-bearing pyrochlores are formed. U-pyrochlores of betafite series, containing 2Ti = Nb + Ta in moles, have cubic cell parameters of 10.26 ± 0.02 Å and U4+ isomorphic capacity of 0.4–0.5 apfu. In the pyrochlore structure, U4+ may substitute for Ca2+ and Na+ cations in the eightfold site. In pyrochlores of pyrochlore–microlite series, Ca2+ is replaced by U4+, while in pyrochlores of betafite series, U4+ replaces Na+. Phases with pyrochlore structure, containing U5+ and U6+ in the sixfold site, usually occupied by Nb5+, Ta5+, and Ti4+, are formed under oxidizing conditions (Cu–Cu2O buffer). They are characterized by low content of Nb5+, Ta5+ (<0.1 apfu), and anomalous behavior of the crystal lattice (compression, instead of expansion). Under natural conditions, the formation of pyrochlores containing a significant amount of U5+ and U6+ is unlikely.  相似文献

A new single beam microtechnique has been developed for measuring the polarized absorption spectra in the region 44,000-4,000 cm?1. Spectra of a natural garnet (Spess70Alm30), measured by the microtechnique and by conventional macrotechniques, are consistent and thus prove the applicability of the microtechnique described. It is possible to obtain well resolved spectra down to about 13,000 cm?1 with crystals as small as about 10 μm. Thus spectra of crystals obtained in routine high-pressure high-temperature silicate syntheses can be measured. The polarized spectra of Mn3+, Fe3+, Fe2+, and Cr3+ in the following synthetic silicate minerals are presented: piemontite (I), acmite (II), orthoferrosilite (III), and kyanite (IV) or uvarovite (V), respectively. O-Cr3+, O-Mn3+, and O-Fe2+ charge transfer band maxima in the UV region are identified at 38,700 cm?1, in V; at 33,200, 35,300, and 39,000 cm?1, in I; and at 32,800, 35,200, and 37,300 cm?1, in III, respectively. Bands in the region ≦25,000 cm?1 are assigned to spin-allowed and spin-forbidden dd transitions as predicted from crystal field theoretical considerations for the foregoing ions in the respective structures.  相似文献

Meridianiite, MgSO4·11H2O, is the most highly hydrated phase in the binary MgSO4–H2O system. Lower hydrates in the MgSO4–H2O system have end-member analogues containing alternative divalent metal cations (Ni2+, Zn2+, Mn2+, Cu2+, Fe2+, and Co2+) and exhibit extensive solid solution with MgSO4 and with one another, but no other undecahydrate is known. We have prepared aqueous MgSO4 solutions doped with these other cations in proportions up to and including the pure end-members. These liquids have been solidified into fine-grained polycrystalline blocks of metal sulfate hydrate + ice by rapid quenching in liquid nitrogen. The solid products have been characterised by X-ray powder diffraction, and the onset of partial melting has been quantified using a thermal probe. We have established that of the seven end-member metal sulfates studied, only MgSO4 forms an undecahydrate; ZnSO4 forms an orthorhombic heptahydrate (synthetic goslarite), MnSO4, FeSO4, and CoSO4 form monoclinic heptahydrates (syn. mallardite, melanterite, bieberite, respectively), and CuSO4 crystallises as the well-known triclinic pentahydrate (syn. chalcanthite). NiSO4 forms a new hydrate which has been indexed with a triclinic unit cell of dimensions a = 6.1275(1) Å, b = 6.8628(1) Å, c = 12.6318(2) Å, α = 92.904(2)°, β = 97.678(2)°, and γ = 96.618(2)°. The unit-cell volume of this crystal, V = 521.74(1) Å3, is consistent with it being an octahydrate, NiSO4·8H2O. Further analysis of doped specimens has shown that synthetic meridianiite is able to accommodate significant quantities of foreign cations in its structure; of the order 50 mol. % Co2+ or Mn2+, 20–30 mol. % Ni2+ or Zn2+, but less than 10 mol. % of Cu2+ or Fe2+. In three of the systems we examined, an ‘intermediate’ phase occurred that differed in hydration state both from the Mg-bearing meridianiite end-member and the pure dopant end-member hydrate. In the case of CuSO4, we observed a melanterite-structured heptahydrate at Cu/(Cu + Mg) = 0.5, which we identify as synthetic alpersite [(Mg0.5Cu0.5)SO4·7H2O)]. In the NiSO4- and ZnSO4-doped systems we characterised an entirely new hydrate which could also be identified to a lesser degree in the CuSO4- and the FeSO4-doped systems. The Ni-doped substance has been indexed with a monoclinic unit-cell of dimensions a = 6.7488(2) Å, b = 11.9613(4) Å, c = 14.6321(5) Å, and β = 95.047(3)°, systematic absences being indicative of space-group P21/c with Z = 4. The unit-cell volume, V = 1,176.59(5) Å3, is consistent with it being an enneahydrate [i.e. (Mg0.5Ni0.5)SO4·9H2O)]. Similarly, the new Zn-bearing enneahydrate has refined unit cell dimensions of a = 6.7555(3) Å, b = 11.9834(5) Å, c = 14.6666(8) Å, β = 95.020(4)°, V = 1,182.77(7) Å3, and the new Fe-bearing enneahydrate has refined unit cell dimensions of a = 6.7726(3) Å, b = 12.0077(3) Å, c = 14.6920(5) Å, β = 95.037(3)°, and V = 1,190.20(6) Å3. The observation that synthetic meridianiite can form in the presence of, and accommodate significant quantities of other ions increases the likelihood that this mineral will occur naturally on Mars—and elsewhere in the outer solar system—in metalliferous brines.  相似文献

In situ X-ray diffraction measurements of KAlSi3O8-hollandite (K-hollandite) were performed at pressures of 15–27 GPa and temperatures of 300–1,800 K using a Kawai-type apparatus. Unit-cell volumes obtained at various pressure and temperature conditions in a series of measurements were fitted to the high-temperature Birch-Murnaghan equation of state and a complete set of thermoelastic parameters was obtained with an assumed K300,0=4. The determined parameters are V 300,0=237.6(2) Å3, K 300,0=183(3) GPa, (?K T,0/?T) P =?0.033(2) GPa K?1, a 0=3.32(5)×10?5 K?1, and b 0=1.09(1)×10?8 K?2, where a 0 and b 0 are coefficients describing the zero-pressure thermal expansion: α T,0 = a 0 + b 0 T. We observed broadening and splitting of diffraction peaks of K-hollandite at pressures of 20–23 GPa and temperatures of 300–1,000 K. We attribute this to the phase transitions from hollandite to hollandite II that is an unquenchable high-pressure phase recently found. We determined the phase boundary to be P (GPa)=16.6 + 0.007 T (K). Using the equation of state parameters of K-hollandite determined in the present study, we calculated a density profile of a hypothetical continental crust (HCC), which consists only of K-hollandite, majorite garnet, and stishovite with 1:1:1 ratio in volume. Density of HCC is higher than the surrounding mantle by about 0.2 g cm?3 in the mantle transition zone while this relation is reversed below 660-km depth and HCC becomes less dense than the surrounding mantle by about 0.15 g cm?3 in the uppermost lower mantle. Thus the 660-km seismic discontinuity can be a barrier to prevent the transportation of subducted continental crust materials to the lower mantle and the subducted continental crust may reside at the bottom of the mantle transition zone.  相似文献

Synthetic, flux-grown uvarovite, Ca3Cr2 [SiO4]3, was investigated by optical methods, electron microprobe analysis, UV-VIS-IR microspectrometry, and luminescence spectroscopy. The crystal structure was refined using single-crystal X-ray CCD diffraction data. Synthetic uvarovite is optically isotropic and crystallizes in the “usual” cubic garnet space group Ia3¯d [a=11.9973 Å, Z=8; 21524 reflections, R1=2.31% for 454 unique data and 18 variables; Cr–O=1.9942(6), Si–O=1.6447(6), Ca–Oa=2.3504(6), Ca–Ob= 2.4971(6) Å]. The structure of Ca3Cr2[SiO4]3 complies with crystal-chemical expectations for ugrandite group garnets in general as well as with predictions drawn from “cubically averaged” data of non-cubic uvarovite–grossular solid solutions (Wildner and Andrut 2001). The electronic absorption spectra of Cr3+ in trigonally distorted octahedra of synthetic uvarovite were analyzed in terms of the superposition model (SM) of crystal fields. The resulting SM and interelectronic repulsion parameters are =9532 cm?1, =4650 cm?1, power law exponent t 4=6.7, Racah B35=703 cm?1 at 290 K (reference distance R 0=1.995 Å; fixed power law exponent t 2=3 and spin-orbit parameter ζ=135 cm?1). The interelectronic repulsion parameters Racah B 55=714 cm?1 and C=3165 cm?1 were extracted from spin-forbidden transitions. This set of SM parameters was subsequently applied to previously well-characterized natural uvarovite–grossular solid solutions (Andrut and Wildner 2001a; Wildner and Andrut 2001) using their extrapolated Cr–O bond lengths to calculate the energies of the spin-allowed bands. These results are in very good agreement with the experimentally determined band positions and indicate the applicability of the superposition model to natural 3d N prevailing systems in geosciences. Single-crystal IR absorption spectra of synthetic uvarovite in the region of the OH-stretching vibration exhibit one isotropic absorption band at 3508 cm?1 at ambient conditions, which shifts to 3510 cm?1 at 77 K. This band is caused by structurally incorporated hydroxyl groups via the (O4H4)-hydrogarnet substitution. The water content, calculated using an integral extinction coefficient ?=60417 cm?2 l mol?1, is c H2O=33 ppm.  相似文献

Arsenic (As) and fluoride (F?) in groundwater are increasing global water quality and public health concerns. The present study provides a deeper understanding of the impact of seasonal change on the co-occurrence of As and F?, as both contaminants vary with climatic patterns. Groundwater samples were collected in pre- and post-monsoon seasons (n = 40 in each season) from the Brahmaputra flood plains (BFP) in northeast India to study the effect of season on As and F? levels. Weathering is a key hydrogeochemical process in the BFP and both silicate and carbonate weathering are enhanced in the post-monsoon season. The increase in carbonate weathering is linked to an elevation in pH during the post-monsoon season. A Piper diagram revealed that bicarbonate-type water, with Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ cations, is common in both seasons. Correlation between Cl? and NO3 ? (r = 0.74, p = 0.01) in the post-monsoon indicates mobilization of anthropogenic deposits during the rainy season. As was within the 10 µg L?1 WHO limit for drinking water and F? was under the 1.5 mg L?1 limit. A negative correlation between oxidation reduction potential and groundwater As in both seasons (r = ?0.26 and ?0.49, respectively, for pre-monsoon and post-monsoon, p = 0.05) indicates enhanced As levels due to prevailing reducing conditions. Reductive hydrolysis of Fe (hydr)oxides appears to be the predominant process of As release, consistent with a positive correlation between As and Fe in both seasons (r = 0.75 and 0.73 for pre- and post-monsoon seasons, respectively, at p = 0.01). Principal component analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis revealed grouping of Fe and As in both seasons. F? and sulfate were also clustered during the pre-monsoon season, which could be due to their similar interactions with Fe (hydr)oxides. Higher As levels in the post-monsoon appears driven by the influx of water into the aquifer, which drives out oxygen and creates a more reducing condition suitable for reductive dissolution of Fe (hydr)oxides. An increase in pH promotes desorption of As oxyanions AsO4 3? (arsenate) and AsO3 3? (arsenite) from Fe (hydr)oxide surfaces. Fluoride appears mainly released from F?-bearing minerals, but Fe (hydr)oxides can be a secondary source of F?, as suggested by the positive correlation between As and F? in the pre-monsoon season.  相似文献

Molecular orbital calculations are presented for the copper-sulfur polyhedral clusters CuS 4 7? , CuS 4 6? , CuS 3 5? and CuS 3 4? , which occur in many minerals. Calculated and experimental optical and X-ray energies are found to be in good agreement. The crystal field orbitals of Cu+ in tetrahedrally coordinated sulfides are found to be less tightly bound than the S3p nonbonding orbitals by about 2–3 eV whereas the e and t 2 crystal field orbitals are split by about 1 eV. The crystal field splitting of Cu2+ in tetrahedral coordination is about 0.7–0.8 eV while the separation of the S3p nonbonding orbitals and the partially filled t 2 crystal field orbital is about 2 eV. In triangular coordination both the Cu+ and Cu2+ crystal field orbitals are more stable than in tetrahedral coordination, more widely split and more strongly mixed with the S3p orbitals. CuS is shown to be unstable as the mixed oxidation state compound Cu2+III (Cu+IV)2S2?(S 2 2? ); rather each Cu is predicted to have a fractional oxidation state and partially-empty crystal field orbitals.  相似文献

MgSiO3 akimotoite is stable relative to majorite-garnet under low-temperature geotherms within steeply or rapidly subducting slabs. Two compositions of Mg–akimotoite were synthesized under similar conditions: Z674 (containing about 550 ppm wt H2O) was synthesized at 22 GPa and 1,500 °C and SH1101 (nominally anhydrous) was synthesized at 22 GPa and 1,250 °C. Crystal structures of both samples differ significantly from previous studies to give slightly smaller Si sites and larger Mg sites. The bulk thermal expansion coefficients of Z674 are (153–839 K) of a 1 = 20(3) × 10?9 K?2 and a 0 = 17(2) × 10?6 K?1, with an average of α 0 = 27.1(6) × 10?6 K?1. Compressibility at ambient temperature of Z674 was measured up to 34.6 GPa at Sector 13 (GSECARS) at Advanced Photon Source Argonne National Laboratory. The second-order Birch–Murnaghan equation of state (BM2 EoS) fitting yields: V 0 = 263.7(2) Å3, K T0 = 217(3) GPa (K′ fixed at 4). The anisotropies of axial thermal expansivities and compressibilities are similar: α a  = 8.2(3) and α c  = 10.68(9) (10?6 K?1); β a  = 11.4(3) and β c  = 15.9(3) (10?4 GPa). Hydration increases both the bulk thermal expansivity and compressibility, but decreases the anisotropy of structural expansion and compression. Complementary Raman and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy shows multiple structural hydration sites. Low-temperature and high-pressure FTIR spectroscopy (15–300 K and 0–28 GPa) confirms that the multiple sites are structurally unique, with zero-pressure intrinsic anharmonic mode parameters between ?1.02 × 10?5 and +1.7 × 10?5 K?1, indicating both weak hydrogen bonds (O–H···O) and strong OH bonding due to long O···O distances.  相似文献

A series of natural silica impactite samples from Chicxulub (Mexico) was investigated by Raman microprobe (RMP) analysis. The data yield evidence for high-pressure shock metamorphism in the rock. The impactite contains three polymorphs of silica: the original α-quartz, and two high-pressure varieties – coesite and disordered quartz representing various degrees of crystallinity. We found systematic changes in frequencies and half-widths of the Raman bands, caused by increasing irregularities of bond-lengths and bond-angles and a general breaking-up of the structure as a result of impact events. Therefore, RMP is an adequate tool for measuring the crystallinity of disordered quartz. The half-width Γ and the frequency ω of the symmetric SiOSi stretching vibrational band (A1 mode) of the SiO4 tetrahedra are the most amenable parameters for estimating the degree of crystallinity. In well-crystallized quartz, Γ=5 cm?1 and ω=464 cm?1, while in highly disordered quartz this line shifts up to ω=455 cm?1 and broadens up to Γ=30 cm?1. The Raman lineshapes appear to depend strongly on the degree of lattice disorder subsequent to impact events. To cite this article: M. Ostroumov et al., C. R. Geoscience 334 (2002) 21–26  相似文献

Conventional hydrogeochemical data and environmental stable isotopes are used to identify the recharge sources and the water–rock interactions in the groundwater-flowing direction within the multilayer groundwater system of the Sulin coal-mining district in the north Anhui province in China. δD and δ 18O of groundwater in the mining district decrease along the groundwater-flowing direction in the recharge areas, yet in the runoff or discharge areas, they rise and fall along average δ values (δ 18O = ?8.68 ‰, δD = ?67.4 ‰), which are lower than average δ values of local atmospheric precipitation (δ 18O = ?7.80 ‰, δD = ?52.4 ‰). Principal component analysis is used to analyze the conventional hydrogeochemical data (K+ + Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl?, SO4 2?, HCO3 ?, CO3 2?) in the groundwater. The first and second principal components have large variance contributions, and represent “pyrite oxidation or groundwater hardening” and “desulfurization or cation exchange and adsorption,” respectively. From conventional hydrogeochemical data and environmental stable isotopes, it is demonstrated that groundwater of the Sulin coal-mining district is characterized by a mixing type, which is confirmed by three recharge end-members: fresh groundwater, leaching groundwater, and retained groundwater. By means of a sample dot-encompassed triangle in the scatter diagram of load scores for Component 1–Component 2, whose vertexes stand for the three end-members, a model for calculating groundwater mixing ratio is established and applied successfully to the evaluation and management of groundwater hazards in the coal-mining districts.  相似文献

The effect of ion beam irradiations on the elastic properties of hydrous cordierite was investigated by means of Raman and X-ray diffraction experiments. Oriented single crystals were exposed to swift heavy ions (Au, Bi) of various specific energies (10.0–11.1 MeV/u and 80 MeV/u), applying fluences up to 5 × 1013 ions/cm2. The determination of unit-cell constants yields a volume strain of 3.4 × 10?3 up to the maximum fluence, which corresponds to a compression of non-irradiated cordierite at ~480 ± 10 MPa. The unit-cell contraction is anisotropic (e 1 = 1.4 ± 0.1 × 10?3, e 2 = 1.5 ± 0.1 × 10?3, and e 3 = 7 ± 1 × 10?4) with the c-axis to shrink only half as much as the axes within the ab-plane. The lattice elasticity for irradiated cordierite (? = 1 × 1012 ions/cm2) was determined from single-crystal XRD measurements in the diamond anvil cell. The fitted third-order Birch–Murnaghan equation-of-state parameters of irradiated cordierite (V 0 = 1548.41 ± 0.16 Å3, K 0 = 117.1 ± 1.1 GPa, ?K/?P = ?0.6 ± 0.3) reveal a 10–11 % higher compressibility compared to non-irradiated cordierite. While the higher compressibility is attributed to the previously reported irradiation-induced loss of extra-framework H2O, the anomalous elasticity as expressed by elastic softening (β a ?1 , β b ?1 , β c ?1  = 397 ± 9, 395 ± 28, 308 ± 11 GPa, ?(β ?1)/?P = ?4.5 ± 2.7, ?6.6 ± 8.4, ?5.4 ± 3.0) appears to be related to the framework stability and to be independent of the water content in the channels and thus of the ion beam exposure.  相似文献

Auriacusite, ideally Fe3+Cu2+AsO4O, is a new arsenate mineral (IMA2009–037) and the Fe3+ analogue of olivenite, from the Black Pine mine, 14.5 km NW of Philipsburg, Granite Co., Montana, USA. It occurs lining quartz vughs and coating quartz crystals and is associated with segnitite, brochantite, malachite, tetrahedrite and pyrite. Auriacusite forms fibrous crystals up to about 5?µm in width and up to about 100?µm in length, which are intergrown to form fibrous mats. Individual crystals are a brownish golden yellow, whilst the fibrous mats are ochreous yellow. The crystals have a silky lustre and a brownish yellow streak. Mohs hardness is about 3 (estimated). The fracture is irregular and the tenacity is brittle. Auriacusite crystals are biaxial (+), with α?=?1.830(5), β?=?1.865(5) and γ?=?1.910(5), measured using white light, and with 2V meas.?=?83(3)º and 2V calc. = 84.6º. Orientation: X?=?a, Y?=?c, Z?=?b. Auriacusite is identified as a member of the olivenite group with Fe3+ replacing Zn2+ or Cu2+ in trigonal bipyramidal coordination. Evidence suggests that auriacusite is an intermediate member between olivenite and an as yet undescribed Fe3+Fe3+-dominant member. The name is derived from the Latin auri (golden yellow) and acus (needle), in reference to its colour and crystal morphology.  相似文献

Two samples of hydroxyl-clinohumite, sample SZ0407B with approximate composition Mg8.674(14)Fe0.374(4)(Si0.99(1)O4)4(OH)2 and sample SZ0411B with composition Mg9(SiO4)4(OH)2, were synthesized at 12 GPa and 1,250 °C coexisting with olivine. Unit-cell parameters determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction are given as follows: a = 4.7525(4) Å, b = 10.2935(12) Å, c = 13.7077(10) Å, α = 100.645(9)°, V = 659.04(9) Å3 for SZ0407B, and a = 4.7518(6) Å, b = 10.2861(12) Å, c = 13.7008(9) Å, α = 100.638(9)°, V = 658.15(9) Å3 for SZ0411B. Single-crystal X-ray intensity data were collected for crystal structure refinements of both samples. Relative to the pure-Mg sample, Fe decreases M3–OH bond lengths by ~0.010(3) Å, consistent with some ferric iron ordering into M3. Raman spectroscopy shows two strong bands in the lattice-mode region at 650 and 690 cm?1 in the Fe-bearing sample, which are not observed in the pure-Mg sample. Spectra in the H2O region show at least five bands, which are deconvolved into seven distinct O–H-stretching modes. Thermal expansion measurements were carried out for both samples from 153 to 787 K by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The average a-, b-, c-axial and volumetric thermal expansion coefficients (10?6 K?1) are 10.5(1), 12.3(2), 12.5(2) and 34.9(5) for SZ0407B, respectively, and 11.1(1), 12.6(3), 13.7(3), 36.8(6) for SZ0411B, respectively. After heating, the unit-cell parameters were refined again for each sample at ambient condition, and no significant changes were observed, indicating no significant oxidation or dehydration during the experiment. For the DHMS phases along the brucite–forsterite join, linear regression gives a systematic linear decrease in expansivity with increasing density. Further, substitution of ferrous iron into these structures decreases thermal expansivity, making the Fe-bearing varieties slightly stiffer.  相似文献

The assessment of hydrogeochemical processes that govern the water quality of inland freshwater aquifers in coastal environment, especially in Indian sub-continent, is occasionally attempted. To bridge the gap, a detail hydrochemical evaluation of groundwater occurring in coastal alluvium is attempted. Single set of high-density water sampling is done from a limited area to gain an in-depth knowledge of the processes that govern the water chemistry of the sandy aquifers. The water is of weak alkaline nature and less mineralized, EC being < 1,000 μS/cm in many samples. Major ion composition indicates that water is contaminated with excess concentration of nitrates. Ionic abundance is in the order of Cl? > Na > Ca2+ > HCO3 ? > SO4 2? > Mg2+  > NO3 ?. Na+ and Cl? are almost in similar proportions implying the influence of coastal climate on water quality. The water shows modest variation in their ionic assemblage among different sample points as evident from Schoeller scheme. Groundwater can be classified into three distinct facies viz. Cl?–Ca2+–Mg2+, Na+–Cl? and Ca2+–Mg2+–HCO3 ? types. The ionic assemblages, their indices, ratios and cross-plots substantiate that multiple processes were involved in the evolution of the water chemistry. Among them, silicate weathering, halite dissolution, ion exchange and base exchange played prominent role in the ion enrichment of groundwater. The aquatic chemistry is further influenced and modified by marine environment, evapotranspiration and anthropogenic inputs which is authenticated by good correlation (r 2 = 1) among the Na+–Cl?, EC–Mg2+, Na+ and Cl?. Gibbs plots established that evaporation is more responsible for contribution of minerals to the groundwater than aquifer material. Nitrate contamination can be attributed for poor sewerage disposal mechanism which is aggravated by fertilizer inputs, irrigation practices and agriculture activity. A contrasting correlation (r 2 ≥90 to <0.40) among select pairs of ions reassures dissimilar source of those ions, involvement of multiple processes and limited interaction of formation water with aquifer material.  相似文献

The transformation of vivianite and the direct synthesis starting from pure chemicals lead to the formation of lipscombite {Fe x 2+ Fe 3?x 3+ [(OH)3?x/(PO4)2]} with varying Fe2+/Fe3+ molar ratios. The influence of this ratio on the Mössbauer spectra, solubility, electrokinetic potential and infrared spectra has been studied. By means of Mössbauer spectroscopy, the distribution of the Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions between the octahedral sites I and II has been investigated. The unit cell dimensions have been determined from Guinier-Hägg X-ray diffraction patterns. The crystal system is tetragonal for synthetic lipscombite with a=5.3020±0.0005 Å and c=12.8800±0.0005 Å. Lipscombite has been found to show a negative and time-dependent zeta-potential which, moreover, is influenced by the pH of the suspension and the Fe2+/Fe3+ molar ratio. An explanation of the time-dependence of the zeta-potential on variations of solubility is proposed. Infrared absorption spectrum only is characterized by two absorption bands: v OH(3,500 cm?1) and v P?O(1,100-960 cm?1). The density at 25° C is determined in toluene as 3.36±0.01 g·cm?3.  相似文献

High-pressure electronic absorption spectra at room temperature and at pressures 10?4<P[GPa]<8 were measured in the spectral range 380<λ[nm] <780(26218>ν?[cm?1]>12820) on analysed single crystal slabs, about 20?μm thick, of Cr3+-bearing spinel (I), kyanite (II), corundum (III), pyrope (IV) and uvarovite (V) using DAC-cell techniques in combination with single-beam microscopespectrometry. Ligand field theoretical evaluation of the spectra yielded following results: (i)?the octahedral crystal field parameter, 10DqCr3+[6], linearly shifts on increasing pressure to higher energies with slopes, (δ10DqCr3+[6]/δP), of 103.1 (I), 99.5 (II), 104.0 (III), 111.7 (IV) and 110.3?[cm?1/GPa] (V) (reliability parameters r≥0.92), (ii)? The Racah-parameter BCr3+[6], reflecting the covalency of the Cr–O bonds, does not significantly change with pressure up to 8?GPa, in those cases where it could be evaluated from the spectra (III, IV, V). This result is contrary to the behaviour of BCr3+[6] with increasing temperature (Taran et?al. 1994) and shows that P and T are not inversely correlated parameters with respect to BCr3+[6], a decrease of which reflects an increase in covalency. (iii)? This result enabled to extract octahedral compression moduli, kCr3+[6], from the pressure slopes of 10DqCr3+[6]: 312+48 (I), 297+70 (II), 298+44 (III), 275+35 (IV), 257+32?GPa (V). Quotients kcr3+[6]/kbulk,phase are nearly the same (ca. 1.6) for I, II, IV and V but significantly lower (ca. 1.1) for III. Deviations between spectroscopically determined kCr3+[6] and published kAl[6], obtained by HP-XRD on ruby and pyrope, are interpreted by lattice strain induced by [Cr3+,?Al3+?1][6] substitution.  相似文献
