Carbonate sands undergo degradation when transported hydraulically from a dredging vessel to the reclamation site. Risks involved in the production of fines during hydraulic transport are a deterioration of the mechanical properties of the fill in certain areas of the reclamation area where these fines concentrate. In order to assess sand degradation in the concrete and road construction industry, the Micro-Deval test for fine aggregates was developed in France and Canada. During Micro-Deval testing, aggregates degrade when tumbled in a rotating steel drum with water and steel balls. In the Canadian standard, the steel charge is lower than in the French standard and balls have the diameter of the smallest balls used in the French test. During testing, the quantity of fines produced is measured. This makes the Micro-Deval test an option for assessing the degradation of sand during hydraulic transportation of slurries in the dredging industry. Three sands are tested: two shelly carbonate sands and one quartzic river sand for comparison. The carbonate sands were sampled on reclaimed land and had been subjected to hydraulic transportation in pipeline before artificial deposition. Due to differences in particle shape, the carbonate sands and the quartz sand have a different number of contacts with the steel charge in the drum of the Micro-Deval and are not exposed to the same degradation forces during testing. It was found that the quartzic sand suffers relatively much degradation as compared to the carbonate sands, despite its greater hardness and resistance to crushability. The French test appears to create turbulence that promotes floatation of the curved shells of the carbonate sands instead of shell grinding at the bottom of the drum by contact with the steel balls. Microscopic observations of sand samples before and after testing showed that the French Micro-Deval test is too destructive. The test leads to the fragmentation by impact of the quartz sands and the destruction of certain particle types that had survived hydraulic transportation. With respect to the Canadian test, microscopic examination of sand grains before and after testing shows there is still much fragmentation of quartz grains. A lower rotational speed combined with a limited steel charge made of uniform balls of a smaller diameter, reduces turbulence, shell floatability and last but not the least, impact forces. It produces the desired result: a high Micro-Deval loss for the carbonate sands in comparison to that for the quartz sands and a very limited fragmentation of the quartz grains. Once the slurry reaches its destination, the grain size distribution of the fines fraction will influence the mechanical behaviour of mixed sands. A procedure is proposed to measure the particle size distribution of the fines fraction produced during Micro-Deval testing.Field validation is needed to validate preliminary laboratory results.  相似文献

An evaluation was made of the degree of coalification of two coal balls from the Illinois Basin of the Pennsylvanian (upper Carboniferous) of the United States. Previous interpretations are mainly misleading and contradictory, primarily because of the assumption that the brown color and exceptional cellular and subcellular preservation typical of American coal balls imply chemical preservation of cellulose and lignin, the primary components of peat. Xylem tissue from a medullosan seed fern contained in a coal ball and the coal attached to the coal ball from the Calhoun coal bed, Mattoon Formation, Illinois, was analyzed by elemental, petrographic, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques to determine the degree of coalification. The NMR and elemental data indicate the lack of cellulose and lignin and a probable rank of high-volatile C bituminous coal. These data corroborate data for a coal ball from the Herrin (No. 6) coal bed (Carbondale Formation, Middle Pennsylvanian) and support our hypothesis that the organic matter in coal balls of the Pennsylvanian strata of the United States is coalified to about the same degree as the surrounding coal. Data presented show a range of lower reflectances for xylem tissue and vitrinite in the analyzed coal balls compared with vitrinite in the attached coal.The data reported indicate that physical preservation of organic matter in coal balls does not imply chemical preservation. Also our study supports the hypothesis that compactional (static load) pressure is not a prerequisite for coalification up to a rank of high-volatile C bituminous coal.A whole-rock analysis of the Calhoun coal ball indicates a similarity to other carbonate coal balls from the United States. It consists primarily of calcium carbonate and 1–2% organic matter; silica and alumina together make up less than 0.5%, indicating the lack of minerals such as quartz and clays.  相似文献

Several samples including host sediments, recent molluscan shells, glendonites, and associated carbonate concretions were subjected to the thorough investigation. The obtained analytical data characterize the unique locality of Holocene and Recent carbonate structures in the White Sea basin. The microscopic examination of glendonites revealed several microtextural types of calcite and the succession of their formation. It is established that they are composed of carbonate material, which was discretely formed due to biochemical destruction of terrigenous sedimentary material. The revealed differences in the carbon isotope composition in different glendonites are likely explained by local geochemical properties, which existed within host sediments, or the asynchronous formation of carbonate structures due to changes in the chemical composition of waters that saturated sediments.  相似文献

通过对长江中下游成矿带中武山铜矿和冬瓜山铜矿层状矿体的详细研究,发现了大量具有层圈状构造、层纹状构造或不规则同心环状构造的矿石。在前人研究基础上,经光薄片鉴定、扫描电镜观察和碳氧同位素分析等,认为这类矿石在宏观构造上显示出类似于灰泥丘的孔洞系统,微观上又发现了细菌等微生物结构,判断其属于一种矿化的灰泥丘。资料显示,灰泥丘和热水喷流沉积成矿作用关系密切,灰泥丘可视为热水喷流沉积成矿的证据之一。本文所研究的两个矿床中灰泥丘构造矿石保存状况略有不同,冬瓜山铜矿灰泥丘构造矿石保留了大量显示原生热水喷流沉积成因的组构、并发现细菌等微生物结构,碳氧同位素组成也显示原始沉积特征;而武山铜矿灰泥丘构造矿石则显示出强烈受热液改造的矿石组构和碳氧同位素组成特征,暂未发现细菌等微生物结构。冬瓜山和武山铜矿灰泥丘构造矿石的发现,有力地佐证了长江中下游成矿带在海西期曾发生过热水喷流沉积成矿作用。  相似文献

臼齿构造是一种发育于中、新元古代碳酸盐岩中的具有特殊结构和时限性的沉积构造,其成因有多种解释。徐州地区新元古界贾园组风暴沉积及臼齿构造发育。本文通过野外和室内观察研究,对研究区贾园组臼齿构造形态特征及沉积环境进行分析,并探讨其形成过程。贾园组臼齿构造集中发育于古纬度20°N~34°N的潮下碳酸盐岩缓坡地带,古海洋基底在地震波作用下产生裂隙系统,元古代特殊大气成分背景下的海水中的远源风暴流渗透进入温暖的碳酸盐缓坡地带碳酸盐沉积区的裂隙系统,并在裂隙的愈合作用下与孔隙水产生化学反应产生方解石快速结晶作用,并接受后期沉积作用改造。元古代大地构造背景、古海洋、古大气的物理化学条件是控制研究区臼齿构造时空分布的主要因素。  相似文献

前人对软沉积物变形期次研究多数集中于触发变形的地震事件的周期,而对滑塌体内部软沉积物变形期次研究较少。山东灵山岛早白垩世复理石形成于残余盆地背景,且由于地震频发导致滑塌沉积广泛发育。滑塌沉积层中发育有丰富的软沉积物变形构造,如:同沉积滑塌褶皱、底模构造、剖面X形共轭逆断层、同沉积布丁构造、砂岩层断块及变形团块、微型地垒—地堑组合和叠瓦状倒转紧闭褶皱等。不同类型和不同部位的软沉积物变形构造显示出发育期次不同的特征。本文以灵山岛修船厂附近滑塌沉积层为例,分析软沉积物变形构造的变形机制,并将其发育期次大致分为滑塌前、滑塌中和滑塌后三个阶段。只有部分滑塌中的软沉积物变形构造具有滑塌指向意义,而滑塌前的变形构造不能用来判别滑塌体的搬运方向。  相似文献

前寒武纪碳酸盐岩多以叠层石碳酸盐岩序列为特征。燕山地区中元古界高于庄组,其中的第三段(张家裕亚组)则为一个以灰岩为主、贫乏叠层石的碳酸盐岩沉积序列,该序列被定义为前寒武纪非叠层石碳酸盐岩序列。该非叠层石碳酸盐岩沉积序列,尤其以燕山西部的延庆千沟剖面最为典型。根据沉积相序列及其所反映的旋回性,可以将该剖面的高于庄组第三段划分为3个三级层序。在这些三级层序的海侵体系域和早期高水位体系域中,中薄层隐晶质泥晶灰岩(均一石灰岩)和灰黑色薄层泥灰岩组成若干潮下型米级旋回;而在隐晶质泥晶灰岩层面上,普遍发育各种奇形怪状的沉积构造。这些沉积构造包括穹窿状构造、规则网状和杂乱的帐篷脊、变余波痕等,构成一个潮下相灰岩层面上的特别的微生物形成的沉积构造(Microbial Induced Sedimentary Structure,MISS)组合。因此,延庆千沟剖面的高于庄组第三段,特别的岩石类型和沉积构造成为前寒武纪碳酸盐岩沉积中非叠层石碳酸盐岩沉积序列的典型代表,尤其是那些奇形怪状的MISS所代表的沉积学特点表明:在前寒武纪,即使在叠层石生长的黄金时段,也发育非叠层石碳酸盐岩沉积序列。因此,这些现象将特别有助于对前寒武纪非叠层石生态系所造成的另一类席底生境的深入理解,也有助于复杂多变的碳酸盐岩世界。  相似文献

The Linok Formation is made up of clayey and carbonate strata, 180–300 m thick, formed at the terminal Middle Riphean on the northwestern margin of the Siberian Platform. In the modern structure, it is exposed in the lower part of the Turukhansk Uplift section. The sediments accumulated in the distal part of the epiplatformal basin as a symmetrical transgressive–regressive cycle. Its lower part represents a deep-water basin environment with the mixed carbonate–clayey sedimentation, whereas the upper part reflects the origination and evolution of a carbonate platform. Microstructures discussed in this work suggest not only the ancient existence of benthic microbial assemblages (mats) but their active influence upon the facies pattern of sediments as well. The influence was determined by the ability of mat-forming communities to produce carbonate sediments under certain environmental conditions. The analysis of the facies succession suggested the absence of an appreciable influx of carbonate material to the basin from other sources. Based on the carbonate generation ability, one can distinguish three (carbonate-free, low-productive, and high-productive) groups of microbial communities. Groups 1 and 2 represent deep-water basin mats, whereas group 3 represents relatively shallow-water platformal microbial–mineral systems. The carbonate productivity of communities is inversely proportional to the depth of their dwelling and the relative rate of clayey sedimentation. The morphological reconstruction of microbiolite structures showed that the structures in basins and platforms greatly differed in terms of the size of elements. The ability of microbial communities to generate carbonate could be realized only within large ecosystems.  相似文献

The Mesoproterozoic Pandikunta Limestone, a shallow water carbonate platform succession in the Pranhita-Godavari Valley, south India, displays well developed climbing ripple lamination and storm deposited structures, such as HCS, wave ripple-lamination, combined-flow ripple-lamination and low angle trough cross-stratification. Different types of stratification developed in calcisiltite with minor amounts of very fine quartz sand and silt. The climbing ripple structures exhibit a complex pattern of superposition of different types (type A, B and S) within cosets pointing to a fluctuating rate of suspension depositionversus bedform migration, and an unsteady character of the flow. Close association of climbing ripple structures, HCS with anisotropic geometry, wavy lamination and combined-flow ripple-lamination suggest that the structures were formed by storm generated combined-flow in a mid-shelf area above the storm wave base. The combined-flow that deposited the climbing ripple structures had a strong unidirectional flow component of variable magnitude. The climbing ripple structure occurs as a constituent of graded stratified beds with an ordered vertical sequence of different types of lamination, reflecting flow deceleration and increased rate of suspension deposition. It is inferred that the beds were deposited from high-density waning flows in the relatively deeper part of the ancient shelf. The structures indicate that the Pandikunta platform was subjected to open marine circulation and intense storm activities. The storm deposited beds, intercalated with beds of lime-mudstone, consist primarily of fine sand and silt size carbonate particles that were hydrodynamically similar to quartz silt. Detrital carbonate particles are structureless and are of variable roundness. The particles were generated as primary carbonate clasts in coastal areas by mechanical disintegration of rapidly lithified beds, stromatolites or laminites, and the finest grade was transported to the offshore areas by storm-generated currents.  相似文献

Modern convergent zones at tropical latitudes are characterized by subduction of carbonate sediment. Although carbonate response to deformation is different from clay, they are commonly treated as having a similar rheology. This approximation, though, is inadequate since carbonate behavior is complicated by cementation and pressure solution. Our goal, here, is to focus on the deformation of carbonate sediment in the footwall of a major fossil thrust zone and compare it with a possible scenario in a modern environment. The focus area is the Monti Sibillini Thrust, in the Umbria-Marche sector of the Northern Apennines where the pelagic, Late Eocene-Oligocene carbonates of the Scaglia Cinerea Formation are underthrusted beneath the late Cretaceous-Middle Eocene Scaglia Rossa Formation.

The data collected during this meso-structural study allowed for an interpretation of the temporal and spatial relationships between the observed deformation structures (S-C deformation bands, shear veins and stylolites). These results allow the development of a dynamic model for the deformation. The proposed model explains the observed features through cycles of fluid-pressure build up, hydraulic fracturing, and consecutive collapse, producing pressure-solution and stylolitization.  相似文献

臼齿构造碳酸盐岩是一种具有类似于大象臼齿特征的特殊碳酸盐岩,其微亮晶脉由纯净的、基本等粒的方解石(或白云岩)构成,而基质物质则由细粒的、富泥质的灰岩组成。通过对中朝板块东部吉辽徐淮地区前寒武纪臼齿构造碳酸盐岩研究,结合国外研究资料,臼齿构造碳酸盐岩具有特定的生存时限,目前只在前寒武纪(主要发育在中、新元古代)地层中发现。研究表明,臼齿构造碳酸盐岩发育在缓坡型台地,宿主岩性以富含泥质的粉屑灰岩、泥晶灰岩为主,位于潮汐流、风暴流影响范围内,为浅潮下和环潮坪环境,潮上带与深缓坡均不发育,具有鲜明的环境和相指示意义。由于缺乏现代相似沉积物,臼齿构造碳酸盐岩的成因还是一个谜,需要进一步研究和探索。   相似文献

碎屑岩中微生物形成的原生沉积构造,由于缺乏直接的微生物证据,其识别常常比较困难。位于北京西北郊的南口虎峪一带,古元古代晚期的大红峪组(1650~1600Ma),海侵体系域砂岩地层与高水位体系域砂泥质白云岩和叠层石白云岩组成了较为有规律的沉积相序特征,成为将大红峪组划分为三个三级层序的主要标志。在大洪峪组的海侵体系域砂岩层中,一种类似于碳酸盐岩中的“内碎屑”的奇特的砂质碎片,代表了前寒武纪海侵砂岩沉积面上曾经发育过微生物席;该砂质碎片与变余波痕和皱饰构造组成系列席底构造,特殊的形态和产出特点成为窥视前寒武纪砂岩中微生物席发育的一种典型标志。因此,南口虎峪剖面大红峪组海侵砂岩中的微生物砂质碎片及其相关的席底构造的发现,有益于今后对类似沉积构造的阐释与研究,特别是那些常常被厘定为前寒武纪古老的后生动物遗迹化石的沉积构造;同时也表明,在前寒武纪地层之中,除了要关注叠层石之类的微生物沉积构造以外,碎屑岩中也存在微生物活动的若干证据即席底构造(第五类原生沉积构造),这些特别的沉积构造对前寒武纪沉积环境重塑具有重要意义。  相似文献

X-ray computed tomographic studies of relatively pure Paleoproterozoic limestones from the George Formation, Muskwa Assemblage, northern British Columbia, Canada indicate that molar-tooth structures developed along linked fractures in gel-like semi-plastic carbonate mud, with a high organic content. Where pore fluid and/or gas pressures matched confining loads, MT blobs developed. Where pressure exceeded loads, cracks propagated into adjacent semi-elastic sediment and were rapidly filled by clusters of uniform, equant, microcrystalline carbonate. Where abundant carbonate was not precipitated, incipient cracks and sheets collapsed leaving residual trains of microcrystalline carbonate with similar density to the molar-tooth carbonate. Tomographic studies show that the density of calcite domains within petrographically uniform sheets of MT void-filling calcite is uneven, suggesting that precipitation was not instantaneous, but was propagated from discrete centres.It is here suggested that carbonate production and sediment rheology were both strongly influenced by organic matter. During early sea-floor diagenesis microcrystalline carbonate precipitated within organic-rich sediment with high water content, possibly within decomposing mats of microbial extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). When pore pressures in the host sediment increased in response to cyclic loading by long-period waves, pore fluids containing EPS were injected into newly created fractures, allowing rapid precipitation of molar-tooth carbonate. Because tomographic studies allow detailed resolution of minor density differences, they provide a useful method of evaluating structures in relatively uniform carbonate rocks of any age.  相似文献

中—新元古代地层在南乌拉尔海槽中极为发育,地层厚度巨大,几个阶段的构造演化和沉积特征清晰可见。新太古代和下里菲是俄罗斯重要的大型层状铁矿和菱镁矿的宿主地层,中里菲群(元古宙地层)地层厚度极大,伴随了几次沉积旋回,发育了从深海相到大陆缓坡的碳酸盐岩沉积;随着新元古代末次冰期之后,文德系发育了可全球对比的白海动物群(伊迪卡拉动物群)。笔者首次确认了南乌拉尔地区中—新元古代地层3套臼齿构造,其中巴卡尔组(Bakal)碳酸盐岩臼齿构造与碎屑岩地震液化脉互层共生,特别是大量臼齿构造也发育在大型叠层石中。从臼齿构造与碎屑岩液化脉互层的共生特征,说明发育在碳酸盐岩中臼齿构造与地震机理的液化作用有关。该3套臼齿构造与中国华北地台中—新元古代地层中发现的臼齿构造(液化脉)时代大体接近。  相似文献

微生物碳酸盐岩是当前沉积学的研究热点之一,但关于古近系湖相微生物碳酸盐岩的报道还非常少。为探讨山东平邑盆地古近系官庄组中段湖相微生物碳酸盐岩的形成机理,笔者进行了野外实测以及室内偏光显微镜和扫描电镜观察。研究结果认为:(1)研究区微生物碳酸盐岩主要有核形石、叠层石和凝块石;(2)在核形石、叠层石和凝块石内部均发现了球状微生物化石、席状体和凝块状泥晶等微生物成因的显微组构,表明了它们形成过程中共同的生长、粘结和钙化等微生物作用;(3)微生物作用对环境变化比较敏感,水体较小、变化频繁的湖泊环境,对微生物碳酸盐岩结构和形态的发育有很大影响;核形石、叠层石和凝块石的形成环境大致呈现出水动力依次减弱、陆源碎屑物质依次减少、水深依次加大的规律;(4)提出了研究区微生物碳酸盐岩的成因模式,认为这3种微生物碳酸盐岩正是以微生物活动为共同基础,在不同的环境条件下形成的。  相似文献
