The inner sector of the Eastern Carpathians displays a large number of Na–HCO3, CO2-rich, meteoric-originated cold springs (soda springs) and bore wells, as well as dry mofettes. They border the southern part of the Pliocene–Quaternary Calimani–Gurghiu–Harghita (CGH) calc-alkaline volcanic chain. Both volcanic rocks and CO2-rich emissions are situated between the eastern part of the Transylvanian Basin and the main east Carpathian Range, where active compression tectonics caused diapiric intrusions of Miocene halite deposits and associated saline, CO2-rich waters along active faults. The regional patterns of the distribution of CO2 in spring waters (as calculated pCO2) and the distribution pattern of the 3He/4He ratio in the free gas phases (up to 4.5 Rm/Ra) show their maximum values in coincidence with both the maximum heat-flow measurements and the more recent volcanic edifices. Moving towards the eastern external foredeep areas, where oil fields and associated brines are present, natural gas emissions become CH4-dominated. Such a change in the composition of gas emissions at surface is also recorded by the 3He/4He ratios that, in this area, assume ‘typical’ crustal values (Rm/Ra=0.02).In spite of the fact that thermal springs are rare in the Harghita volcanic area and that equilibrium temperature estimates based on geothermometric techniques on gas and liquid phases at surface do not suggest the presence of shallow active hydrothermal systems, a large circulation of fluids (gases) is likely triggered by the presence of mantle magmas stored inside the crust. If total 3He comes from the mantle or from the degassing of magmas stored in the crust, CO2 might be associated to both volcanic degassing and thermometamorphism of recently subducted limestones.  相似文献

Between 1987 and 1995 more than 100 chemical and isotopic analyses were carried out on the thermal fluids discharged at surface from wells and springs of the Euganean and Berician thermal district. Results for δD and δ18O in waters, δ13C in CO2 and in C1–C4 n-alkanes, δD in CH4, 3He/4He and 40Ar/36Ar ratios in natural gases were coupled with chemical analyses in an attempt to determine the main characteristics and evolutionary trends of thermal fluids emerging in the region. The isotopic and chemical composition of thermal waters has led to the postulation of a meteoric origin of discharged thermal fluids and of a “maturation” trend as water moves from the peripheral manifestations of the Berici Hills towards those of the Battaglia, Montegrotto and Abano springs in the inner part of the geothermal field. Numerical simulation suggested that the observed evolutionary path is consistent with differentiation due to processes of water–rock interaction. The results of bulk analyses have shown that the gases are made up mainly of N2 (65–95 vol%), CO2 (0.5–20.5 vol%) and CH4 (up to 10 vol%), with relatively high Ar and He contents (up to 1.5 vol% and 0.16 vol%, respectively) and detectable amounts of C2–C6 saturated hydrocarbons. The chemical and isotopic composition of the gases suggests that both the meteoric and crustal contributions to the natural discharges are significant, while any significant magmatic contribution, possibly related to vestiges of the volcanic activity that occurred in the Abano area during the Tertiary age, can be ruled out.  相似文献

Chemical and isotopic compositions are reported for water, and CO2 and noble gases in groundwater and soda springs from Bioko, Principé, São Tomé and Annobon, all islands located in the off-shore part of the Cameroon Volcanic Line in West Africa. The soda spring waters are of Ca–Mg–HCO3 type, with δD and δ18O values that range from −20 to −8‰ and −5.4 to −2.7‰ respectively, indicative of a meteoric origin. CO2 is the main gas species in the springs. δ13C–CO2 values vary from −2.8 to −5.0‰, overlapping the observed mantle C range (−3 to −8‰). CO2/3He ratios (3–9×109) suggest that most C (∼90%) in the samples is derived from the mantle. Neon has atmospheric isotopic compositions, while Ar is slightly enriched in radiogenic 40Ar. 3He/4He ratios (3.0 to 10.1×10−6 or 2.1 to 7.2Ra, where Ra is the atmospheric ratio of 1.4×10−6) are much higher than those for typical crustal fluids (∼10−8) but lower than those expected for fluids derived from ‘high-3He/4He’ hotspots like Loihi and Iceland. This precludes significant contributions of such fluids in the source regions of the gases, and by inference, in the magmatism of these oceanic islands. Alternatively, approximately 90% of the He in São Tomé gases is inferred to be derived from a source similar to the MORB source. The 3He/4He ratio for the Bioko gas (6.6×10−6) may be derived from a source with a higher time integrated (U+Th)/3He ratio than the MORB source.  相似文献

Carbon and noble gas isotope analyses are reported for bubbling gas samples from the Tengchong volcanic geothermal area near the Indo-Eurasian suture zone. All samples contain a resolvable component of mantle-derived 3He. Occurrence of mantle-derived 3He coincides with surface volcanism. However, 3He occurs over a larger geographic areathan do surface volcanics. δ13C values for CO2 and CH4 vary from -33.4‰ to 1.6 ‰ and from -52.8‰ to -2.8‰, respectively. He and C isotope systematics indicate that CO2 and CH4 in the CO2-rich gases originated predominantly from magmatic component mixed with crustal CO2 produced from carbonate. However, breakdown of organic matter and near-surface processes accounts for the CH4 and CO2 in N2-rich gases. 3He/4He ratio distribution pattern suggests that mantle-derived He and heat sources of high-temperature system in central Tengchong originate from a hidden magma reservoir at subsurface. CO2-rich gases with the highest 3He/4He ratio (5.2 Ra) may be representative of the  相似文献

Chemical and isotopic compositions have been measured for N2-He-rich bubbling gases discharging from hot springs in the Hainan Island, Southern China. Observed 3He/4He ratios (0.1–1.3 RA) indicate the occurrence of a mantle component throughout the island, which has been highly diluted by a crustal radiogenic 4He component. The occurrence of mantle-derived helium is high in the northern island (12%–16% of total He) and gradually decreases towards southern coast (1%–3% of total He). Such a distribution pattern is most likely controlled by the Pleocene-Quaternary volcanic activities in the northern island and groundwater circulation along the deep major faults. The 40Ar/36Ar and N2/Ar ratios suggest that N2 and Ar of the hot spring gases are mostly meteoric. Although δ13C values of CO2 (–20‰ to –27‰) with low concentrations are consistent with the biogenic origin, the combination of 3He/4He and d13CCO2 suggests a two end-member mixing of mantle and crustal components with CO2/3He ratios of 2×109 and 8×1011, respectively. However, the low CO2/3He ratios (1–22×106) can not be ascribed in terms of the simple mixing but has to be explained by the addition of radiogenic 4He and loss of CO2 by calcite precipitation in the hydrothermal system, which is most likely controlled by the degree of gas-water-rock interaction.  相似文献

In the Czech-German border region of the Vogtland and NW Bohemia (western Eger rift, Central Europe), chemical and isotopic compositions (C, N, He, Ar) of free gas from a thermal water escape (fluorite mine, Schönbrunn), two mineral springs (“Eisenquelle,” Bad Brambach; “Sprudel III,” Bad Elster) and a mofette (Bublak) located along an ∼40-km long traverse are reported. The gases of Bublak and Bad Brambach are CO2-rich (>99 vol.%) and have δ13C values of −1.95 and −4.29‰, respectively. With distance from the center of CO2 degassing (Bublak) the δ13C values decrease, most likely due to physico-chemical fractionation of CO2 between gaseous and aqueous phases rather than to admixture of organic/biogenic CO2. The δ15N values range between −3.2 and −0.6‰, compared to an upper mantle value of −4.0 ± 1.0‰. The four locations are characterized by 3He/4He ratios decreasing from 5.9 Ra in the center (Bublak) to 0.8 Ra in the periphery (Schönbrunn) and give evidence for mixing of He from a deep-seated magmatic source with a crustal source. The location with the highest 3He/4He ratio (5.9 Ra) is accompanied by the highest 40Ar/36Ar (550). We argue that the nitrogen of the Bublak mofette gas is a mixture of predominantly atmospheric and mantle-derived components, whereas at the other three locations crustal nitrogen may also be present. The Bublak δ15N value of ≈−4.5 ± 1.0‰ represents the first free gas δ15N reference from the European subcontinental mantle (ESCM) and indicates that, in contrast to the 3He/4He ratios, the δ15N values are equal for ESCM and MORB, respectively.  相似文献

The quaternary volcanic complex of Mount Amiata is located in southern Tuscany (Italy) and represents the most recent manifestation of the Tuscan Magmatic Province. The region is characterised by a large thermal anomaly and by the presence of numerous CO2-rich gas emissions and geothermal features, mainly located at the periphery of the volcanic complex. Two geothermal systems are located, at increasing depths, in the carbonate and metamorphic formations beneath the volcanic complex. The shallow volcanic aquifer is separated from the deep geothermal systems by a low permeability unit (Ligurian Unit). A measured CO2 discharge through soils of 1.8 × 109 mol a−1 shows that large amounts of CO2 move from the deep reservoir to the surface. A large range in δ13CTDIC (−21.07 to +3.65) characterises the waters circulating in the aquifers of the region and the mass and isotopic balance of TDIC allows distinguishing a discharge of 0.3 × 109 mol a−1 of deeply sourced CO2 in spring waters. The total natural CO2 discharge (2.1 × 109 mol a−1) is slightly less than minimum CO2 output estimated by an indirect method (2.8 × 109 mol a−1), but present-day release of 5.8 × 109 mol a−1 CO2 from deep geothermal wells may have reduced natural CO2 discharge. The heat transported by groundwater, computed considering the increase in temperature from the infiltration area to the discharge from springs, is of the same order of magnitude, or higher, than the regional conductive heat flow (>200 mW m−2) and reaches extremely high values (up to 2700 mW m−2) in the north-eastern part of the study area. Heat transfer occurs mainly by conductive heating in the volcanic aquifer and by uprising gas and vapor along fault zones and in those areas where low permeability cover is lacking. The comparison of CO2 flux, heat flow and geological setting shows that near surface geology and hydrogeological setting play a central role in determining CO2 degassing and heat transfer patterns.  相似文献

The age-accumulation effect of 40Ar in hydrocarbon source rocks was discussed in accordance with the decay law of radioactive elements. In terms of the mean values of 40Ar/36Ar, the old Sinian gas reservoirs (mean values of 40Ar/36Ar: 7009) were definitely distinguished from the Permian gas reservoirs (mean values of 40Ar/36Ar: 1017) in Weiyuan, Sichuan Province, and the gas source of the Permian gas reservoir (mean values of 40Ar/36Ar: 5222) in well Wei-7 with the Weiyuan structure is defined as the Sinian system. Based on the values of 40Ar/36Ar, the coal-type gases (The source rocks are of the C-P system; mean values of 40Ar/36Ar: 1125) are definitely distinguished from the oil-type gases (The source rocks are of the Tertiary system; mean values of 40Ar/36Ar: 590) in the Tertiary reservoirs of the Zhongyuan Oilfield. Besides, 40Ar/36Ar values also have a positive effect on the oil-source correlation of oil reservoirs in ancient hidden mountains. According to the crust-mantle interchange information reflected by 3He/4He values, petroliferous provinces in China can be divided into three major tectonic regions. (1) The eastern active region: The crust-mantle volatile matter exchanges actively, and the 3He/4He values are mainly around 10-6, partly around 10-7. (2) The central stable region: The 3He/4He values are all around 10-8. (3) The western sub-stable region: The 3He/4He values are mainly around 10-8, and around 10-7 on the edges of the basins. Helium contents of some gas wells in China’s eastern petroliferous region reach the industrial abundance (He≈0.05%–0.1%), the 3He/4He values reach 10-6, and the equivalent values for the mantle-source components in helium gas can reach 30%–50%. As viewed from this, a new type of crust-mantle composite helium resources has been proposed. Geneses of some CO2 gas reservoirs in the east of China and some issues concerning mantle-source methane were discussed in the light of the helium and carbon isotopes of CO2 and CH4 in natural gases. In the discussion on helium isotopic characteristics of inclusions in the reservoirs, it was discovered that the 3He/4He values are close to those in natural gases. That is to say, this phenomenon is related to regional tectonism. The 3He/4He, CO2/3He and CH4/3He data were used to discuss the tectonic activities of fault zones in a certain number of regions in China.

New isotopic and chemical data on the sodium bicarbonate water and associated gases from the Razdolnoe Spa located in the coastal zone of Primorsky Kray of the Russian Far East, together with previous stable isotope data (δ18O, δD, δ13C), allow elucidation of the origin and evolution of the groundwater and gases from the spa. The water is characterized by low temperature (12 °C), TDS – 2.5–6.0 g/L, high contents of B (∼5 mg/L) and F (4.5 mg/L) and low contents of Cl and SO4. Water isotopic composition indicates its essentially meteoric origin which may comply with an older groundwater that was recharged under different (colder) climatic conditions. Major components of bubbling gases are CH4 (68 vol%), N2 (28%) and CO2 (4%). The obtained values δ13C and δD for CO2 and CH4 definitely indicate the marine microbial origin of methane. Thus the high methane content in the waters relates to the biochemical processes and presence of a dispersed organic matter in the host rocks. Based on the regional hydrogeology and the geological structure of the Razdolnoe Spa, Mesozoic fractured rocks containing Na–HCO3 mineral water and gases are reservoir rocks, a chemical composition of water and gases originates in different environmental conditions.  相似文献

An investigation of the thermal waters in the Ústí nad Labem area in the northeastern part of the Eger Rift has been carried out, with the principal objective of determining their origin. Waters from geothermal reservoirs in the aquifers of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin (BCB) from depths of 240 to 616 m are exploited here. For comparison, thermal waters of the adjacent Teplice Spa area were also incorporated into the study. Results based on water chemistry and isotopes indicate mixing of groundwater from aquifers of the BCB with groundwater derived from underlying crystalline rocks of the Erzgebirge Mts. Unlike thermal waters in Dě?ín, which are of Ca–HCO3 type, there are two types of thermal waters in Ústí nad Labem, Na–HCO3–Cl–SO4 type with high TDS values and Na–Ca–HCO3–SO4 type with low TDS values. Carbon isotope data, speciation calculations, and inverse geochemical modeling suggest a significant input of endogenous CO2 at Ústí nad Labem in the case of high TDS groundwaters. Besides CO2 input, both silicate dissolution and cation exchange coupled with dissolution of carbonates may explain the origin of high TDS thermal waters equally well. This is a consequence of similar δ13C and 14C values in endogenous CO2 and carbonates (both sources have 14C of 0 pmc, endogenous CO2 δ13C around −3‰, carbonates in the range from −5‰ to +3‰ V-PDB). The source of Cl seems to be relict brine formed in Tertiary lakes, which infiltrated into the deep rift zone and is being flushed out. The difference between high and low TDS groundwaters in Ústí nad Labem is caused by location of the high mineralization groundwater wells in CO2 emanation centers linked to channel-like conduits. This results in high dissolution rates of minerals and in different δ13C(DIC) and 14C(DIC) fingerprints. A combined δ34S and δ18O study of dissolved SO4 indicates multiple SO4 sources, involving SO4 from relict brines and oxidation of H2S. The study clearly demonstrates potential problems encountered at sites with multiple sources of C, where several evolutionary groundwater scenarios are possible.  相似文献

A geochemical survey, in shallow aquifers and soils, has been carried out to evaluate the feasibility of natural gas (CH4) storage in a deep saline aquifer at Rivara (MO), Northern Italy. This paper discusses the areal distribution of CO2 and CH4 fluxes and CO2, CH4, Rn, He, H2 concentrations both in soils and shallow aquifers above the proposed storage reservoir. The distribution of pathfinder elements such as 222Rn, He and H2 has been studied in order to identify potential faults and/or fractures related to preferential migration pathways and the possible interactions between the reservoir and surface. A geochemical and isotopic characterization of the ground waters circulating in the first 200 m has allowed to investigation of (i) the origin of the circulating fluids, (ii) the gas–water–rock interaction processes, (iii) the amount of dissolved gases and/or their saturation status. In the first 200 m, the presence of CH4-rich reducing waters are probably related to organic matter (peat) bearing strata which generate shallow-derived CH4, as elsewhere in the Po Plain. On the basis of isotopic analysis, no hints of thermogenic CH4 gas leakage from a deeper reservoir have been shown. The δ13C(CO2) both in ground waters and free gases suggests a prevalent shallow origin of CO2 (i.e. organic and/or soil-derived). The acquisition of pre-injection data is strategic for the natural gas storage development project and as a baseline for future monitoring during the gas injection/withdrawing period. Such a geochemical approach is considered as a methodological reference model for future CO2/CH4 storage projects.  相似文献

Precipitation, soil and spring waters from an outlier of Chalk were analysed over a one year period for field pH, and contents of Ca+2, Mg+2, HCO3? and other dissolved solids. Measured soil log PCO2 (atm) varied between a minimum of ?2.60 and maximum of ?1.46, and could be predicted from measurements of soil temperature. Soil waters evolved under open system conditions with respect to soil CO2, and were undersaturated with calcite during the winter recharge period. The chemistry of the springs is related to their topographic position. Group 1 springs, located below a feather edge of chalk, had both their minimum and maximum PCO2s predicted by the soil CO2 data, suggesting open system CO2 evolution. Group 2 springs, located along the scarp slope had minimum PCO2s predicted by the soil data, but maximum PCO2s which could only be explained by a closed system evolution from the maximum soil CO2 observed. Group 1 springs were close to calcite saturation, whereas Group 2 springs were significantly undersaturated with calcite. The two groups could be identified by linear discriminant analysis of measured Ca2+, pH and HCO3? concentrations.  相似文献

Chemical and isotopic compositions have been measured for CO2-rich bubbling gases discharging from cold springs in Wudalianchi intra-plate volcanic area, NE China. Observed 3He/4He ratios (2–3 RA) and δ13C values of CO2 (−5‰ to −3‰) indicate the occurrence of a mantle component released and transferred to the surface by the Cenozoic extension-related magmatic activities. The CO2/3He ratios are in wide range of (0.4–97 × 109). Based on the apparent mixing trend in a 3He/4He and δ13C of CO2 diagram from all published data, the extracted magmatic end-member in the Wudalianchi Volcano has 3He/4He, δ13C and CO2/3He value of ∼3.2 RA, ∼−4.6‰ and ∼6 × 1010, respectively. These values suggest that the volatiles originate from the sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) in NE China and represent ancient fluids captured by prior metasomatic events, as revealed by geothermal He and CO2 from the adjacent Changbaishan volcanic area.  相似文献

Chemical (major and trace elements) and isotopic compositions (δD and δ18O in waters and δ13C in CO2 and 3He/4He in gases) of natural thermal (11) and cold (39) fluids (spring waters and gases) discharging from a tectonic window of Mesozoic limestones in central Italy, have proved to be the result of mixing processes inside the limestone formations. The limestones provide a preferential route for subsurface fluid migration and they gather both descending cold, Ca-HCO3, B-depleted groundwaters and rising convective Ca-SO4(HCO3), CO2-saturated, B-rich thermal waters. Atmospherically-derived descending gas components (N2, Ne, He), dissolved in rainfall that infiltrates the limestone system mix with N2, Ne, He-depleted hot rising waters. Boron in the liquid phase and N2 and Ne in the gas phase are the most useful elements to trace the mixing process. The deeper gas samples recognised in the area are associated with the hotter waters emerging in the area. In spite of being depleted in Ne and He and light hydrocarbons they have the higher measured 3He/4He ratios, suggesting a contribution of mantle 3He to the gas phase. This contrasts with deep circulation in the crust which would lead to increased concentration of 4He in the deeper gases. Paradoxically, there is more relative concentration of 4He in the more air-contaminated gas samples than in the deeper gas samples. A similar paradox exists when the δ13C of CO2 in the deeper gas samples is considered. The shallower air-contaminated gas samples, although they should be affected by the addition of soil-13C depleted organic C, have δ13C in CO2 more positive than the deeper gas samples recognized. Since any deep hydrothermal source of CO2 should generate CO2 with more positive values of δ13C than those measured at surface, a multiple (single) calcite precipitation process from hydrothermal solutions, with C isotopic fractionation along the rising path inside the Mesozoic limestone formations, is proposed.  相似文献

The paper presents data on the composition of a gas phase of underground fluids in the East Carpathian region, including 3He/4He, 40Ar/36Ar, and 4He/20Ne ratios. The argon isotope composition of these gases was used to estimate the fractions of atmospheric Aratm and radiogenic 40Arrad formed in the rocks, N2/Aratm ratio, and to reveal the admixture of nonatmogenic (“excess”) nitrogen in most samples. The CO2 content in gases positively correlates with the fraction of mantle component in fluid helium. At the same time, the CO2 content shows a negative correlation with the total helium (and light 3He enriching mantle derivatives), thus excluding the simultaneous influx of CO2 and helium from a common mantle source in the fluids. A wide spectrum of 3He/4He = R in gases of the region spanning three orders of magnitude confirms the concept of mixing of the crustal and mantle components in the helium. However, even gases with similar R values show a wide scatter of He concentrations. This is mainly caused by the additional influx of other gases: CH4 formed during OM transformation or CO2 released during the thermal metamorphism of carbonate sequences. Correlation of the CH4/3He ratio and the helium isotope composition in the Carpathian gases indicates the crustal origin of hydrocarbons, which formed economic gas pools in the Ciscarpathian Trough and the adjacent part of the Folded Carpathians. Lateral chemical and isotope variations revealed in the underground fluids are related to the tectonic zoning of the region. The helium isotope variations are also consistent with the geodynamic setting of the region (thinning of the crust and lithosphere towards the Pannonian Basin, growth of the background conductive heat flow and corresponding ascent of isotherms). In combination with geothermal data, they reflect specifics of the mantle heat-and-mass flow discharge.  相似文献

The chemical and isotopic compositions of gases from hydrocarbon systems of the Taranaki Basin of New Zealand (both offshore and onshore) show wide variation. The most striking difference between the western and south-eastern groups of gases is the helium content and its isotopic ratio. In the west, the Maui gas is over an order of magnitude higher in helium concentration (up to 190 μmol mol−1) and its 3He/4He ratio of 3.8 RA (where RA=the air 3He/4He ratio of 1.4×10−6) is approximately half that of upper mantle helium issuing from volcanic vents of the Taupo Volcanic Zone. In the SE, the Kupe South and most Kapuni natural gases have only a minor mantle helium input of 0.03–0.32 RA and low total helium concentrations of 10–19 μmol mol−1. The 3He/C ratio (where C represents the total carbon in the gas phase) of the samples measured including those from a recent study of on-shore Taranaki natural gases are generally high at locations where the surface heat flow is high. The 3He/CO2 ratio of the Maui gases of 5 to 18×10−9 is higher than the MORB value of 0.2 to 0.5×10−9, a feature found in other continental basins such as the Pannonian and Vienna basins and in many high helium wells in the USA. Extrapolation to zero CO2/3He and CO2/C indicates δ13C(CO2) values between −7 and −5‰ close to that of MORB CO2. The remaining CO2 would appear to be mostly organically-influenced with δ13C(CO2) c.−15‰. There is some evidence of marine carbonate CO2 in the gases from the New Plymouth field. The radiogenic 4He content (Herad) varies across the Taranaki Basin with the highest Herad/C ratios occurring in the Maui field. δ13C(CH4) becomes more enriched in 13C with increasing Herad and hydrocarbon maturity. Because 3He/4He is related to the ratio of mantle to radiogenic crustal helium and 3He/C is virtually constant in the Maui field, there is a correlation between RC/RA (where RC=air-corrected 3He/4He) and δ13C(CH4) in the Maui and New Plymouth fields, with the more negative δ13C(CH4) values corresponding to high 3He/4He ratios. A correlation between 3He/4He and δ13C(CO2) was also observed in the Maui field. In the fields adjacent to Mt Taranaki (2518 m andesitic volcano), correlations of some parameters, particularly CO2/CH4, C2H6/CH4 and δ13C(CH4), are present with increasing depth of the gas reservoir and with distance from the volcanic cone.  相似文献

Rare Earth Elements (REEs), and Sr and Nd isotope distributions, have been studied in mineralized waters from the Massif Central (France). The CO2-rich springs are characterized by a neutral pH (6–7) associated with total dissolved solids (TDS) from 1 to 7 g l−1. The waters result from the mixing of very mineralized water pools, thought to have equilibrated at a temperature of around 200°C with superficial waters. These two mineral water pools evidenced by Sr isotopes and dissolved REEs could reflect 2 different stages of water–rock interaction and an equilibrium with different mineral assemblages. The concentrations of individual dissolved REEs and total dissolved REEs (ΣREE), in the mineral waters examined, vary over several orders of magnitude but are not dependent on the main parameters of the waters (TDS, T°C, pH, Total Organic C). The dissolved REE concentrations presented as upper continental crust normalized patterns show HREE enrichment in most of the samples. The time evolution of REE patterns does not show significant fluctuations except in 1 borehole, located in the Limagne d’Allier area, which was sampled on 16 occasions over an 18 month period. Ten samples are HREE-enriched, whereas 6 samples show flat patterns. The aqueous speciation of REEs shows that CO2−3 complexes dominate (>80%) over the free metal, F, SO2−4 and HCO3 complexes. The detailed speciation demonstrates that the fractionation of REEs (i.e. the HREE enrichment) in CO2-rich and pH neutral fluids is due essentially to the predominance of the CO2−3 complexes. The Sr isotopic composition of the mineral waters in the Massif Central shows different mixing processes; in the Cézallier area at least 3 end-member water types exist. The most dilute end-member is likely to originate as poorly mineralized waters with minimal groundwater circulation. Two other mineralized end-members are identified, although the link between the geographical location of spring outflow and the mixing proportion between the 2 end-members is not systematic. The range in ϵNd(0) for mineralized waters in the Massif Central correlates well with that of the known parent rocks except for 4 springs. One way to explain the ϵNd(0) in these instances is a contribution from drainage of volcanic rocks. The isotopic systematics help to constrain the hydrogeological models for this area.  相似文献

We present He, Ne, Ar, and C isotope analyses of hydrothermal brines and gases from fumaroles, hot springs, mofettes and hydrothermal exploration drillings on the major islands of the Lesser Antilles Arc. The origin of hydrothermal brines, which have been analyzed also for O and H isotopes, is essentially meteoric-hydrothermal. Air-corrected isotope compositions of helium (2.2 Rc/Ra < 3He/4He < 8.6 Rc/Ra) and carbon (−20 < δ13CPDB < +0.5) are variable and require a variety of crustal and magmatic sources. The diversity of δ13CPDB and 3He/CO2 ratios within individual volcanic centres suggests that crustal sources (e.g., limestone) contaminate magmatic CO2 en route from high-level magma reservoirs (depth < 15 km) to the surface. A similar contamination may be found for magmatic helium on distal springs. The 3He/4He signature of summit fumaroles, thought to reflect the 3He/4He signature of high-level magmas, shows a remarkable systematic variation along the arc. In addition, there is a correlation throughout the arc between published Sr, Pb, and Nd isotope signatures of lavas and the 3He/4He signatures of summit fumaroles. On the northern islands (Nevis, Montserrat, Guadeloupe, and Dominica) summit fumaroles have the N-MORB signature (3He/4He = 8 ± 1 R/Ra), and the isotope signature of lavas is not dissimilar from comparable intra-oceanic arc tholeiites elsewhere. Variable enrichments in radiogenic Sr and Pb have been reported for lavas of individual volcanic centres of the Southern Islands (Martinique, St.Lucia, and Grenada), and summit fumaroles on these centres match these variations by variable radiogenic He-enrichments, i.e., lower 3He/4He ratios. This correlation suggests that radiogenic Sr and Pb enrichments of lavas and low 3He/4He signatures on summit fumaroles have a common origin, i.e., a terrigenous contaminant derived from the Orinoco depositionary fan. Crustal assimilation is thought to decouple the He isotope system from any other radiogenic isotope system and, therefore, we argue that the observed correlation of He, Sr, Pb, and Nd isotope systems is related to a terrigenous contaminant derived from subducted sediments. Support for this scenario also comes from the matching of low 3He/4He ratios and tectonic features of the forearc thought to favor the subduction of forearc sediments. The present study offers a first clue that, under suitable conditions, crustal helium from oceanic sediments might be subducted to the depth of arc magma sources and, possibly, even recycled into the deeper mantle.  相似文献
